  I am not looking for a read how to develop games and how to implement one. I am looking for a general about possible effects in 2D Games and about general design of modern 2D gaming. I have programmed several smaller games over the years and also read books like "Golden Rules of Game Programming" by Martin Bronwlo. So I know how to implement games. What I am looking for are 2 things: Finishing touches such as effects like explosions, particles etc. Not how to make them, but how to design them so it looks right and cool. How to make a 2D game feel "more right" so that users get a satisfying gaming experience. I played a lot of 2D games but I could use some more advice.

  I have a player that shoots in the direction that it is facing. However, the shot that is created when I click, also destroys the player. How would I make the shot ignore collision with the player? Or better yet, how to make a shot destroy anything it touches and destroy itself without affecting the player? This is the code that controls collisions: function OnTriggerEnter (col : Collider) { Destroy(col.gameObject); } The shot is a trigger, but the player isn't.   I'm trying to allow a CCSprite to be dragged across the screen. I've succeeded so far by doing it on a Layer level (from this tutorial). However, this only allows ONE sprite to be dragged at a time as the method implementation can only identify a single sprite to move at a time. I'd like to be able to perhaps add a gesture recognizer or somehow implement ccTouchesBegan/Moved in my own little CCSprite subclass. However, from what I understand, you can't just add gesture recognizers to CCSprites. ccTouchMoved are also not available on CCSprites?? Really confused as to how to implement touches on Cocos2D. What is the easiest way to add some position translation code to a CCSprite so it can be dragged around? Thanks!

  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xyJkS8XjgA&feature=youtu.be I managed to take a video with what happens on my Ubuntu 12.10 laptop when I play with the volume and hover with the mouse over the slider and when I press Ctrl + Alt + D (show Desktop/minimize all) The real bugs are those in which the panel becomes transparent on the down side, exactly above the volume slider (and not only when that slider appears, but also when brightness slider appears, and when blocking my touchpad applet appears) and when I have a maximized window, more maximized windows or a non maximized window that touches the panel, while I use Ctrl+Alt+D (show Desktop/hide all normal windows). Is there a way to solve this bug? PS: The other bugs are from Record My Desktop. I didn't have the mentioned bugs in ubuntu 12.04, but I like more the graphics in 12.10.

A context menu will appear. Click on the icon again. The context menu will disappear but the copying process is also canceled. So, do you have this problem? Is it a bug?

  When I try to open .chm help from a network shared drive I receive the following error: Navigation to the webpage was canceled. I know about the .reg solution described on KB896054 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions] "MaxAllowedZone"=dword:00000001 but it does not work in Windows 7. Any ideas how to make .chm help available from the network drives? Edit: I have the network path mapped to P: drive letter. My program runs from P: and I want to see the help for it. Copying the program to local drive is not a solution for me.

• Fragile XenServer won't create new VDIs anymore

  I'm getting increasingly frustrated with XenServer. Currently I'm using 5.6FP1 and it seems to be very fragile. Canceling any VDI-related action almost guarantees trouble. This time I tried to create a new VM using a snapshot for a template, with the fast disk cloning option disabled. It would take much longer than I was able and willing to keep my XenCenter open, so I canceled it. That took ages too, so I had to decide to "Quit Anyway." Since, I seem unable to create any new VDI. New attempts at cloning halt with "The attempt to clone the VDI failed," and creating new VMs based on built-in templates hang at "Provisioning." I'm in need of some advice how to solve this. What I did so far is run a xe vdi-list, which returned nothing odd to me, but I'm no expert. I assume that an incomplete VDI is blocking my Storage Repository somehow, however, how to deal with that remains unclear.

Ready to execute... o Prepare configuration o Write configuration file o Start service o Apply security settings (this line is greyed out) Please press [Execute] to start the configuration. [ Back ] [ Execute ] [ Cancel ] So I press execute, and then a red X appears in the second step: Write configuration file and at the bottom, where it originally said: Please press [Execute] to start the configuration. It now says: The template configuration file cannot be found at C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\bin\my-template.cnf I'm unsure what it means, but I canceled the config wizard and looked in the directory that had been created (C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0). • SQL Server 7 Transaction Logs Issues

  Over the week my database server transaction log was full. With our app people could select from the database but could not update or insert into the database. In the past we have just truncated the transaction logs. After that, everything was back to normal. This week I truncated the transaction logs, and shrink that database. Now we can select, update, and insert into the database. The only issue is when we do a big job, and to a lot on inserting or updating, we get the following error: Database error: S1008:[Microsft][ODBC]Operation canceled We never had this issue before, I am assuming the that is the same as a timeout error. Has anyone else had this issue before, or know how I resolve this?

  I have this HUGELY irritating problem on Windows 7 (x64). Whenever I click on ANY link (that exists on a Word document, Excel or Outlook), I get an alert box with the message: This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer I have been scouring my settings and the Internet for a solution, but to no avail. What is the reason for this problem? It even happens when I click anchors in word document. That is, I can't even click on an entry in a Table of Contents to go to the appropriate page - I get this same error then. Is this a Windows 7 thing? Is there any way to turn this off?

• Restarted computer, now wireless and Visual Studio is broken

  I installed the new update for TortoiseSVN which requires a restart. Upon restarting a lot of things broke. I'm currently running a virus scan, but what would cause this? Among the things that no longer work is Visual Studio. It now says "Invalid License Data. A reinstall is required" and my wireless internet does not work. When I go to connect to my network it will say "Can not connect" and then when I diagnose the problem it says "The connection to accesspoint-name was cancelled" (and yes, canceled is misspelt like that) What could have caused this? My computer did not install any updates or anything like that upon restarting and it was running fine before I restarted it.

  Hi, I am running under Debian and I have recently upgraded to Squeeze. Since then, I am having so much problems with Webmin. So I have decided to remove it using: apt-get remove webmin And then I downloaded the sources of Webmin 1.530 and compiled it. But the installation process has been stucked for an hour so I canceled it. I even tried to install it using the .deb file without success (installation stucks for hours). From now, I cannot install Webmin since I uninstalled it. So I would like to know how can I make a full clean up of any traces of Webmin on my server. And then I will retry to install it.

  I'm back from the NRF show having been one of the lucky people who's flight was not canceled. The show was very crowded with a reported 20% increase in attendance and everyone seemed in high spirits. After two years of sluggish retail sales, things are really picking up and it was reflected in everyone's mood. The pop-up Disney Store in the Oracle booth was great and attracted lots of interest in their mobile POS. I know many attendees visited the Disney Store in Times Square to see the entire operation. It's an impressive two-story store that keeps kids engaged. The POS demonstration station, where most of our innovations were demoed, was always crowded. Unfortunately most of the demos used WiFi and the signals from other booths prevented anything from working reliably. Nevertheless, the demo team did an excellent job walking people through the scenarios and explaining how shopping is being impacted by mobile, analytics, and RFID. • Can't access my accelerated hard disk from msdos after installing linux on ssd cache

  I mistakenly installed Ubuntu on my ssd (forgot my PC actually came with one), when it detected a ~31GiB disk that it wanted to install to, I was a bit confused since I had brought out 30Gb in my primary disk for it, but I clicked continue. After installation, I tried to boot back into my Windows and it brought out some Intel Raid Disk Utility stuff saying I should disable acceleration on a disk something couldn't be found, I canceled it but whatever I tried, recovery tools, setups etc, I couldn't just access the drive which was apparently using the SSD as cache. Since then I've been stuck. I tried setting the 'raid' flag to the disk from 'gParted', still I couldn't. I tried the diskraid utility from windows recover disk, it said it couldn't detect any raid, diskpart sees the partition but doesn't see the volume, when I remove the raid flag, it sees the volume as one of raw type, and I can't access anything. I can however mount the drive from terminal in Ubuntu and access my files, but I don't have any backup media at the moment so I can do a factory re-install. Please how do I go about solving the issue, precisely I would like to know how to boot into the drive again. Thanks!
