  • algorithm for python itertools.permutations

    - by zaharpopov
    Can someone please explain algorithm for itertools.permutations routine in Python standard lib 2.6? I see its code in the documentation but don't undestand why it work? Thanks Code is: def permutations(iterable, r=None): # permutations('ABCD', 2) --> AB AC AD BA BC BD CA CB CD DA DB DC # permutations(range(3)) --> 012 021 102 120 201 210 pool = tuple(iterable) n = len(pool) r = n if r is None else r if r > n: return indices = range(n) cycles = range(n, n-r, -1) yield tuple(pool[i] for i in indices[:r]) while n: for i in reversed(range(r)): cycles[i] -= 1 if cycles[i] == 0: indices[i:] = indices[i+1:] + indices[i:i+1] cycles[i] = n - i else: j = cycles[i] indices[i], indices[-j] = indices[-j], indices[i] yield tuple(pool[i] for i in indices[:r]) break else: return

  • Django: Prefill a ManytoManyField

    - by Emile Petrone
    I have a ManyToManyField on a settings page that isn't rendering. The data was filled when the user registered, and I am trying to prefill that data when the user tries to change it. Thanks in advance for the help! The HTML: {{form.types.label}} {% if add %} {{form.types}} {% else %} {% for type in form.types.all %} {{type.description}} {% endfor %} {% endif %} The View: @csrf_protect @login_required def edit_host(request, host_id, template_name="host/newhost.html"): host = get_object_or_404(Host, id=host_id) if request.user != host.user: return HttpResponseForbidden() form = HostForm(request.POST) if form.is_valid(): if request.method == 'POST': if form.cleaned_data.get('about') is not None: host.about = form.cleaned_data.get('about') if form.cleaned_data.get('types') is not None: host.types = form.cleaned_data.get('types') host.save() form.save_m2m() return HttpResponseRedirect('/users/%d/' % host.user.id) else: form = HostForm(initial={ "about":host.about, "types":host.types, }) data = { "host":host, "form":form } return render_to_response(template_name, data, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) Form: class HostForm(forms.ModelForm): class Meta: model = Host fields = ('types', 'about', ) types = forms.ModelMultipleChoiceField( widget=forms.CheckboxSelectMultiple, queryset=Type.objects.all(), required=True) about = forms.CharField( widget=forms.Textarea(), required=True) def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs): super(HostForm, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs) self.fields['about'].widget.attrs = { 'placeholder':'Hello!'}

  • Django: testing get query

    - by Brant
Okay, so I am sick of writing this... res = Something.objects.filter(asdf=something) if res: single = res[0] else: single = None if single: # do some stuff I would much rather be able to do something like this: single = Something.objects.filter(asdf=something) if single: #do some stuff I want to be able to grab a single object without testing the filtered results. In other words, when i know there is either going to be 1 or 0 matching entries, I would like to jump right to that entry, otherwise just get a 'None'. The DoesNotExist error that goes along with .get does not always work so well when trying to compress these queries into a single line. Is there any way to do what I have described?

  • Pyramid.security: Is getting user info from a database with unauthenticated_userid(request) really secure?

    - by yourfriendzak
I'm trying to make an accesible cache of user data using Pyramid doc's "Making A “User Object” Available as a Request Attribute" example. They're using this code to return a user object to set_request_property: from pyramid.security import unauthenticated_userid def get_user(request): # the below line is just an example, use your own method of # accessing a database connection here (this could even be another # request property such as request.db, implemented using this same # pattern). dbconn = request.registry.settings['dbconn'] userid = unauthenticated_userid(request) if userid is not None: # this should return None if the user doesn't exist # in the database return dbconn['users'].query({'id':userid}) I don't understand why they're using unauthenticated_userid(request) to lookup user info from the database...isn't that insecure? That means that user might not be logged in, so why are you using that ID to get there private info from the database? Shouldn't userid = authenticated_userid(request) be used instead to make sure the user is logged in? What's the advantage of using unauthenticated_userid(request)? Please help me understand what's going on here.

  • How to improve my Python regex syntax?

    - by FarmBoy
I very new to Python, and fairly new to regex. (I have no Perl experience.) I am able to use regular expressions in a way that works, but I'm not sure that my code is particularly Pythonic or consise. For example, If I wanted to read in a text file and print out text that appears directly between the words 'foo' and 'bar' in each line (presuming this occurred one or zero times a line) I would write the following: fileList = open(inFile, 'r') pattern = re.compile(r'(foo)(.*)(bar)') for line in fileList: result = pattern.search(line) if (result != None): print result.groups()[1] Is there a better way? The if is necessary to avoid calling groups() on None. But I suspect there is a more concise way to obtain the matching String when there is one, without throwing errors when there isn't. I'm not hoping for Perl-like unreadability. I just want to accomplish this common task in the commonest and simplest way.

  • Colorbox class don't work with ajax/dom object

    - by almal
i usually use colorbox tool for open "popup windows" in my page and all are fine. In my new project the situation is little different because i use js/ajax/dom for create dinamically my objects in handleRequestStateChange() function. After import js,jquery and css for colorbox, in the head of my js page i write: $(document).ready(function () { $(window).scroll(function () { //oP1 = document.createTextNode(posizione_menu.offsetTop); //divIpt.appendChild(oMtx1); $(".divHcss").css("position", "fixed").css("top", "0px").css("z-index", "999"); }); //Examples of how to assign the Colorbox event to elements $(".group1").colorbox({rel:'group1'}); $(".group2").colorbox({rel:'group2', transition:"fade"}); $(".group3").colorbox({rel:'group3', transition:"none", width:"75%", height:"75%"}); $(".group4").colorbox({rel:'group4', slideshow:true}); $(".ajax").colorbox(); $(".youtube").colorbox({iframe:true, innerWidth:640, innerHeight:390}); $(".vimeo").colorbox({iframe:true, innerWidth:500, innerHeight:409}); $(".iframe").colorbox({iframe:true, width:"80%", height:"80%"}); $(".inline").colorbox({inline:true, width:"50%"}); $(".callbacks").colorbox({ onOpen:function(){ alert('onOpen: colorbox is about to open'); }, onLoad:function(){ alert('onLoad: colorbox has started to load the targeted content'); }, onComplete:function(){ alert('onComplete: colorbox has displayed the loaded content'); }, onCleanup:function(){ alert('onCleanup: colorbox has begun the close process'); }, onClosed:function(){ alert('onClosed: colorbox has completely closed'); } }); $('.non-retina').colorbox({rel:'group5', transition:'none'}) $('.retina').colorbox({rel:'group5', transition:'none', retinaImage:true, retinaUrl:true}); //Example of preserving a JavaScript event for inline calls. $("#click").click(function(){ $('#click').css({"background-color":"#f00", "color":"#fff", "cursor":"inherit"}).text("Open this window again and this message will still be here."); return false; }); }); and after in handleRequestStateChange() i create my a element and assign to a div: var a = createElement('a'); //a.style.display = "block"; a.setAttribute('class','iframe'); a.setAttribute('href',"php/whois.php?P1="+oStxt.value); var divIp3 = createElement('div', 'divIp3', 'divIp3css'); var divIp31 = createElement('div', 'divIp31', 'divIp31css'); divIp3.appendChild(divIp31); divIp3.appendChild(a); a.appendChild(divIp31); The divIp31 become linkable but the href open page in a normal browser tab and not using attribute class for colorbox. Someone have an idea about? Thanks in advance AM

  • Joomla to Drupal migration problem

    - by Gok Demir
AFter migrating a joomla 1.5 site to Drupal 6 by using Joomla to Drupal module. While importing I ticked full HTML. Now some of the pages have are annoying codes as shown below: Normal 0 21 false false false TR X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 <![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]> DefSemiHidden="true" DefQFormat="false" DefPriority="99" LatentStyleCount="267"> UnhideWhenUsed="false" QFormat="true" Name="Normal"/> UnhideWhenUsed="false" QFormat="true" Name="heading 1"/> I think they are copied and pasted from MS Word. How could I fix these? Thanks

  • a more pythonic way to express conditionally bounded loop?

    - by msw
I've got a loop that wants to execute to exhaustion or until some user specified limit is reached. I've got a construct that looks bad yet I can't seem to find a more elegant way to express it; is there one? def ello_bruce(limit=None): for i in xrange(10**5): if predicate(i): if not limit is None: limit -= 1 if limit <= 0: break def predicate(i): # lengthy computation return True Holy nesting! There has to be a better way. For purposes of a working example, xrange is used where I normally have an iterator of finite but unknown length (and predicate sometimes returns False).

  • Printing fails after first print with Centos 6 and HP LaserJet P3015dn printer

    - by Gavin Simpson
Centos 6 recognises and configures a HP LaserJet P3015dn printer connected via USB. This machine is being configured as a small group file/print server. I can print a test page, which is processed/printed correctly. The next time printing is attempted (say printing a second test page), the page is not printed and the printer is set to disabled. The status of the printer is stated as: Stopped - /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed in the printer configuration dialogue. /var/log/cups/error_log contains this information (first two lines were there prior to the failed print job) E [24/Jun/2004:09:12:57 +0100] Returning HTTP Forbidden for Resume-Printer (ipp://localhost/printers/HP-LaserJet-P3010-Series) from localhost E [24/Jun/2004:09:20:59 +0100] Returning HTTP Forbidden for CUPS-Delete-Printer (ipp://localhost/printers/HP-LaserJet-P3010-Series) from localhost D [24/Jun/2004:09:37:28 +0100] [Job 28] The following messages were recorded from 09:36:43 AM to 09:37:28 AM D [24/Jun/2004:09:37:28 +0100] [Job 28] Adding start banner page "none". • Server 2008 Web Edition IIS6 SMTP conflict

    - by user219313
I'm using IIS6 Manager to setup the SMTP service on Windows Server 2008 Web Edition. Ignoring how mental this is, there seems to be a conflict (port 25?) which means that I cannot start and stop the Default SMTP server within IIS6. I can start and stop it with the services.msc snap in and this is reflected in state of the SMTP server in IIS6 manager. I'm worried that none of the settings I want to get at within IIS6 (logging, authentication etc..) are having any effect. None of these settings are available within IIS7 in Web Edition. Idiotic.

  • N2 CMS SlidingCurtain control is not visible

    - by Carl Raymond
I just set up a new N2 site by starting with the MVC 2 Web Application template in Visual Studio, then following the directions in N2 CMS Developer Documentation in the section Integrating with Existing ASP.NET MVC Application. I have the basic site running now, but with one problem: the sliding curtain widget that holds the administrative controls is not visible in the upper right corner (when logged in, of course). I can make it visible the hard way by using Firebug to locate it in the DOM, and then disabling a couple of the CSS positioning elements. Once I do that, it seems to work normally. After I open it that way, I can click the various controls, or close it up (and I see the animation). But then it's off screen again. My master page has the sliding curtain just inside the <body> tag: <body> <n2:SlidingCurtain runat="server"> <n2:ControlPanel runat="server" /> </n2:SlidingCurtain> ... The site.css file generated in the base MVC site doesn't seem to do any positioning that would affect this. Firebug shows that right after by <body> tag, I have this: <div class="sc" id="SC" style="top: -2px; left: -574px;"><div class="scContent"> .... The style for <div class="sc" ...> is element.style { left:-574px; top:-2px; } .sc { background:#FFFFFF none repeat-x scroll 0 0; border-color:#CCCCBB; border-style:none solid solid none; border-width:1px; left:-200px; position:fixed; top:-200px; z-index:990; } If I disable both top: and both left: rules, the widget appears.

I am using django-mssql and SQL Server 2008, but I found that it always errors when I do some commands, for example: python manage.py syncdb the error is below: raise OperationalError(e, "Error opening connection: " + connection_string) ngo.db.backends.sqlserver_ado.dbapi.OperationalError: (com_error(-2147352567, xb7\xa2\xc9\xfa\xd2\xe2\xcd\xe2\xa1\xa3', (0, u'Microsoft OLE DB Provider for L Server', u'[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server \u4e0d \u5b58\u 8\u6216\u62d2\u7edd\u8bbf\u95ee\u3002', None, 0, -2147467259), None), 'Error ning connection: PROVIDER=SQLOLEDB;DATA SOURCE=115.238.106.100,60433;Network rary=DBMSSOCN;Initial Catalog=rvdb_1;UID=sa;PWD=xxxx') When I use Microsoft SQL Server Management studio client, I can successfully connect the database. I got some infomation from: http://code.google.com/p/django-mssql/issues/detail?id=76 but I still tried I got wrong and I think the solution provided is wrong.

  • Unbuffered subprocess output (last line missing)

    - by plok
I must be overlooking something terribly obvious. I need to execute a C program, display its output in real time and finally parse its last line, which should be straightforward as the last line printed is always the same. process = subprocess.Popen(args, shell = True, stdout = subprocess.PIPE, stderr = subprocess.PIPE) # None indicates that the process hasn't terminated yet. while process.poll() is None: # Always save the last non-emtpy line that was output by the child # process, as it will write an empty line when closing its stdout. out = process.stdout.readline() if out: last_non_empty_line = out if verbose: sys.stdout.write(out) sys.stdout.flush() # Parse 'out' here... Once in a while, however, the last line is not printed. The default value for Popens's bufsize is 0, so it is supposed to be unbuffered. I have also tried, to no avail, adding fflush(stdout) to the C code just before exiting, but it seems that there is absolutely no need to flush a stream before exiting a program. Ideas anyone?

  • Why the good append syntax is so ugly, asks python newbie

    - by Cawas
Now following my series of "python newbie questions" and based on another question. Go to http://python.net/~goodger/projects/pycon/2007/idiomatic/handout.html#other-languages-have-variables and scroll down to "Default Parameter Values". There you can find the following: def bad_append(new_item, a_list=[]): a_list.append(new_item) return a_list def good_append(new_item, a_list=None): if a_list is None: a_list = [] a_list.append(new_item) return a_list So, question here is: why is the "good" syntax over a known issue ugly like that in a programming language that promotes "elegant syntax" and "easy-to-use"? Why not just something in the definition itself, that the "argument" name is attached to a "localized" mutable object like: def better_append(new_item, a_list=[].local): a_list.append(new_item) return a_list I'm sure there would be a better way to do this syntax, but I'm also almost positive there's a good reason to why it hasn't been done. So, anyone happens to know why?

  • Inherit a parent class docstring as __doc__ attribute

    - by Reinout van Rees
There is a question about Inherit docstrings in Python class inheritance, but the answers there deal with method docstrings. My question is how to inherit a docstring of a parent class as the __doc__ attribute. The usecase is that Django rest framework generates nice documentation in the html version of your API based on your view classes' docstrings. But when inheriting a base class (with a docstring) in a class without a docstring, the API doesn't show the docstring. It might very well be that sphinx and other tools do the right thing and handle the docstring inheritance for me, but django rest framework looks at the (empty) .__doc__ attribute. class ParentWithDocstring(object): """Parent docstring""" pass class SubClassWithoutDoctring(ParentWithDocstring): pass parent = ParentWithDocstring() print parent.__doc__ # Prints "Parent docstring". subclass = SubClassWithoutDoctring() print subclass.__doc__ # Prints "None" I've tried something like super(SubClassWithoutDocstring, self).__doc__, but that also only got me a None.

  • Cookies with urllib

    - by CMC
This will probably seem like a really simple question, and I am quite confused as to why this is so difficult for me. I would like to write a function that takes three inputs: [url, data, cookies] that will use urllib (not urllib2) to get the contents of the requested url. I figured it'd be simple, so I wrote the following: def fetch(url, data = None, cookies = None): if isinstance(data, dict): data = urllib.urlencode(data) if isinstance(cookies, dict): # TODO: find a better way to do this cookies = "; ".join([str(key) + "=" + str(cookies[key]) for key in cookies]) opener = urllib.FancyURLopener() opener.addheader("Cookie", cookies) obj = opener.open(url, data) result = obj.read() obj.close() return result This doesn't work, as far as I can tell (can anyone confirm that?) and I'm stumped.

  • stopping a cherrypy server over http

    - by d.c
I have a cherrypy app that I'm controlling over http with a wxpython ui. I want to kill the server when the ui closes, but I don't know how to do that. Right now I'm just doing a sys.exit() on the window close event but thats resulting in Traceback (most recent call last): File "ui.py", line 67, in exitevent urllib.urlopen("http://"+server+"/?sigkill=1") File "c:\python26\lib\urllib.py", line 87, in urlopen return opener.open(url) File "c:\python26\lib\urllib.py", line 206, in open return getattr(self, name)(url) File "c:\python26\lib\urllib.py", line 354, in open_http 'got a bad status line', None) IOError: ('http protocol error', 0, 'got a bad status line', None) is that because I'm not stopping cherrypy properly?

  • VS2008 on Win7 64-Bit: Debugging a Windows Service

    - by Richard
Hi all, I'm trying to debug a Windows Service using VS2008 on Win7 64-Bit. The problem I'm having is that none of my breakpoints are being hit, regardless of which build configuration I choose: x86, x64 or AnyCPU. Using "Attach to Process" after the service has started, none of the breakpoints are hit - yet the IDE doesn't inform me that they won't be hit (by making the solid red circle and outline, for instance) - it simply seems to act as if the breakpoints weren't even there. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? Thanks /Richard.

  • Our embedded linux system won't recognize a USB Device if it is plugged in before powerup. Suggestions?

    - by Blaine
We are developing on a small embedded device. This device us a gumstix overo board running OpenEmbedded linux. We have our development almost completely done, and have run into the strangest of bugs that we can't figure out. We have a USB Device (Spectrophotometer) that has a USB2.0 Connection and an external power supply for the light source. Typical behavior is that you plug in the power supply, then the USB connection to a host. When the usb connection is detected by the device, the device boots up and enables the light source and fan. The device is then able to be used by the host system. The problem is that if the device is plugged into the Gumstix before we turn on the Gumstix, the USB Device apparently is not probed by the system (and hence does not turn on). Under a normal situation, when the connection is initialized by plugging in the usb cable, the spectro turns itself on and becomes available to the system (this can be seen via "lsusb" typically). Neither of these things are happening. There is no device detected via "lsusb" and no dmesg errors of any kind that we can see. It is as if the device is not plugged in. The device does show up and work fine if we unplug the USB cable and plug it back in once the system is booted up. It turns on and shows up on the usb bus, and we can access it with our driver. On any other desktop or laptop, it does not matter if the host system is on or off when we plug in the spectrometer. This behavior is what I would consider to be "normal" - that the usb system is probed and initialized at boot time, and the usb devices come online. In other words, our system is fully functional as long as we plug in the usb device after the system is booted up. Unfortunately this isn't possible in our final product - everything comes on at once. Additional Info: 1) We have tried a flash drive attached to the system when the system is turned off. Booting up the system brings the flash drive online, as expected 2) There are no messages regarding the spectro or usb device (using dmesg). "lsusb" only lists the USB hubs / controllers. It is literally as if the device is not present and not plugged in. 3) We have tried a brand new image from gumstix and an older image from last year. Both images have this problem. This problem exists on all 3 gumstix devices we use. Does anyone have any suggestions? From what I can tell it isn't really possible to do a complete "reboot" of the usb system that is a complete emulation of "unplugging" and "replugging" a usb device. I feel like what is happening is that there is no initial probe on the usb bus that would trigger the usb handshaking, but this is somehow specific to the spectro. This seems to be a kernel issue or at least an issue in how the kernel is initializing the usb subsystem. I'm not really sure though. I have tried the gumstix mailing list, but there doesn't seem to be anyone who has seen this issue before. Any advice or suggestions on where to start looking would be fantastic. Thank you! Blaine output etc. $ uname -a Linux overo 2.6.33 #1 Tue Apr 27 08:35:38 PDT 2010 armv7l GNU/Linux When the system is up and running and spectro is plugged in (working as intended), this is lsusb: Bus 001 Device 116: ID 2457:1022 Device Descriptor: bLength 18 bDescriptorType 1 bcdUSB 2.00 bDeviceClass 0 (Defined at Interface level) bDeviceSubClass 0 bDeviceProtocol 0 bMaxPacketSize0 64 idVendor 0x2457 idProduct 0x1022 bcdDevice 0.02 iManufacturer 1 USB4000 1.01.11 iProduct 2 Ocean Optics USB4000 iSerial 0 bNumConfigurations 1 Configuration Descriptor: bLength 9 bDescriptorType 2 wTotalLength 46 bNumInterfaces 1 bConfigurationValue 1 iConfiguration 0 bmAttributes 0x80 (Bus Powered) MaxPower 400mA Interface Descriptor: bLength 9 bDescriptorType 4 bInterfaceNumber 0 bAlternateSetting 0 bNumEndpoints 4 bInterfaceClass 255 Vendor Specific Class bInterfaceSubClass 0 bInterfaceProtocol 0 iInterface 0 Endpoint Descriptor: bLength 7 bDescriptorType 5 bEndpointAddress 0x01 EP 1 OUT bmAttributes 2 Transfer Type Bulk Synch Type None Usage Type Data wMaxPacketSize 0x0200 1x 512 bytes bInterval 0 Endpoint Descriptor: bLength 7 bDescriptorType 5 bEndpointAddress 0x82 EP 2 IN bmAttributes 2 Transfer Type Bulk Synch Type None Usage Type Data wMaxPacketSize 0x0200 1x 512 bytes bInterval 0 Endpoint Descriptor: bLength 7 bDescriptorType 5 bEndpointAddress 0x86 EP 6 IN bmAttributes 2 Transfer Type Bulk Synch Type None Usage Type Data wMaxPacketSize 0x0200 1x 512 bytes bInterval 0 Endpoint Descriptor: bLength 7 bDescriptorType 5 bEndpointAddress 0x81 EP 1 IN bmAttributes 2 Transfer Type Bulk Synch Type None Usage Type Data wMaxPacketSize 0x0200 1x 512 bytes bInterval 0 Device Qualifier (for other device speed): bLength 10 bDescriptorType 6 bcdUSB 2.00 bDeviceClass 0 (Defined at Interface level) bDeviceSubClass 0 bDeviceProtocol 0 bMaxPacketSize0 64 bNumConfigurations 1 Device Status: 0x0000 (Bus Powered) dmesg output: usb usb1: usb auto-resume hub 1-0:1.0: hub_resume usb usb2: usb auto-resume ehci-omap ehci-omap.0: resume root hub hub 1-0:1.0: state 7 ports 1 chg 0000 evt 0000 hub 2-0:1.0: hub_resume hub 2-0:1.0: state 7 ports 3 chg 0000 evt 0000 hub 1-0:1.0: hub_suspend usb usb1: bus auto-suspend hub 2-0:1.0: hub_suspend usb usb2: bus auto-suspend ehci-omap ehci-omap.0: suspend root hub usb usb2: usb resume ehci-omap ehci-omap.0: resume root hub hub 2-0:1.0: hub_resume ehci-omap ehci-omap.0: GetStatus port 2 status 001803 POWER sig=j CSC CONNECT hub 2-0:1.0: port 2: status 0501 change 0001 hub 2-0:1.0: state 7 ports 3 chg 0004 evt 0000 hub 2-0:1.0: port 2, status 0501, change 0000, 480 Mb/s ehci-omap ehci-omap.0: port 2 high speed ehci-omap ehci-omap.0: GetStatus port 2 status 001005 POWER sig=se0 PE CONNECT usb 2-2: new high speed USB device using ehci-omap and address 2 ehci-omap ehci-omap.0: port 2 high speed ehci-omap ehci-omap.0: GetStatus port 2 status 001005 POWER sig=se0 PE CONNECT usb 2-2: default language 0x0409 usb 2-2: udev 2, busnum 2, minor = 129 usb 2-2: New USB device found, idVendor=2457, idProduct=1022 usb 2-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 usb 2-2: Product: Ocean Optics USB4000 usb 2-2: Manufacturer: USB4000 1.01.11 usb 2-2: uevent usb 2-2: usb_probe_device usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice usb 2-2: uevent usb 2-2: adding 2-2:1.0 (config #1, interface 0) usb 2-2:1.0: uevent drivers/usb/core/inode.c: creating file '002' dmesg has nothing to say, and lusb simply lists nothing else but the two default usb controllers / hubs if we plug the device in before the system is turned on.

  • Javascript won't overwrite CSS display property.

    - by Sorin Buturugeanu
I have a DIV that is set do display:none from CSS and it's supposed to be made visible (style.display = '';) at some point by javascript. The problem is that if I put the display:none in the CSS file the javascript does not seem to have any effect. I have also tried changing the background color instead of the display property, and that works. I have the code running here (just press the edit link). I really thank you for taking the time to look into this.

  • How can I retain carriage returns when I'm encrypting data?

    - by William Calleja
I have this following setup, a textarea named with some data in it that may have carriage returns and another textarea that has style='display:none' in order to make it hidden as follows: <textarea id="myTextarea" onBlur="encryptMyData()"></textarea> <textarea name="encryptedText" style='display:none'></textarea> the user enters data in the first textarea and when that text area loses focus the 'encryptMyData()' javascript function is calling an ajax call to take whatever the user entered in the first textfield, encrypt it using rijndael, and paste it in the encryptedText textarea so that it is stored in the database later. Now what I need to do is this, find a way to convert the carriage returns before encryption to a tag like so [cr] so that when I retrieve the data, all formatting is retained. Any idea how I do this? I'm using asp.net and c# to perform the encryption.
