• Programming related name for a kitten? [closed]

  I am a programmer and I just got my first kitten. A Google search for nerdy/geeky cat names was unimpressive. She's a little black kitten with a very courageous and adventurous attitude! She has a little light gray spot on her chest which might turn white with time. Here she is on my Flickr Which name would you suggest? Which of these do you like? It should be something short that has a couple contrasting sounds so it stands out a bit when you say it.   Hi Guys, Im trying to do a dialog box with jquery. In this dialog box Im going to have terms and conditions. The problem is that the dialog box is only displayed for the FIRST TIME. • Website Sitemaps and <priority>, is it working?

  Hi, My "Privacy Policy" page is seen more important by Google than other really more important pages on my website. I'm currently creating a script to generate a sitemap, should I bother with the priority? How do you effectively assign priorities to pages? I consider one of my page important but the page have less content than another one less important to my eyes... but maybe Google bot will see it the other way around. If my degree of "importantness" differs from the one of Google, will I get penalized on the ranking for a particular page? Thank you for sharing your black art with us :P

• How to draw a rectangle in WinForm app in the correct location

  I have a WinForm app that has an image displayed in a PictureBox that has the added functionality of allowing a user to draw a rectangle on the image by clicking and dragging. The Location, Height and Width of the rectangle are saved to disk. When the image is viewed again I would like to automatically redraw that rectangle in the same position on the image. When I redraw it, however, the Height and Width are fine but the location is always off. The location is being captured in the MouseDown Event like so private void pbSample_MouseDown(object Sender, MouseEventArgs e) { if (SelectMode) { StartLocation.X = e.X; StartLocation.Y = e.Y; //later on these are saved as the location of the rectangle } } And I am redrawing it like so public void DrawSelectedArea(Rectangle rect) { Graphics g = this.PictureBox1.CreateGraphics(); Pen p = new Pen(Brushes.Black); g.DrawRectangle(p, rect); } Given the location from the MouseEventArgs captured during the MouseDown Event how can I calculate the correct location to redraw my rectangle?

• In LaTeX prefer figures on text-heavy pages.

  Hi LaTeX seems to have a preference for placing figures together on a page, and placing surrounding text on a separate page. Can I somehow change that balance a bit, as I prefer figures to break up the text to avoid too black text-heavy pages. Example: \section{Some section} [Half a page of text] \begin{figure} [...] \caption{Figure text 1} \end{figure} [Half a page of text] \begin{figure} [...] \caption{Figure text 2} \end{figure} [More text] So what LaTeX usually does is to stack the two half pages of text on a single page, and the figures on the following page. I believe this really gives a bad balance, and bores the reader. So can I change that somehow? I know about postfixing the \begin{figure} with [ht!], but often it does not really matter. I would like to configure the balancing algorithms in LaTeX to naturally prefer pages with combined figures and text.

Computer Spec: Windows 7 Running processes: 46 Running threads: +/- 650 NVidia GeForce 9200M GS Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26Ghz Game-spec with normal run: Memory: between 80 MB and 110 MB CPU: between 9% and 20% CPU when time rewinding: 90% The same values for the debugging session, except when I rewind the time: CPU: 20%. Is there any reason for? Is there a way to reach the same performance with a normal run. • CSS button not styling

  Hey, I must be missing something obvious, but can someone explain what I'm doing wrong with my CSS? I would like all buttons to have a certain format, except a few. I was expecting to use CssClass in order to override the few that should be different, but they all seem to use the standard one. My CSS: .btn { border:none; background-color:red; } input[type="submit"] { border: 2px solid black; background-color:green; } All the buttons take the second value (green background, with a border). However, I have this button: <asp:Button ID="btnAdd" CssClass="btn" runat="server" Text="Add" /> I was expecting this to have no border, and a red background, but it's the same as every other button. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

  I have Resharper 4.5 and have found it invaluable so far but I have a concern; It seems to want to make every variable declaration implicit(var). As a relativly new developer how much should I trust ReSharper when it comes to this? Take the below code snippet from a method that Paints Tab Headers. • Silverlight Line Graph with Gradient

  I have a series of points which I will turn into a line on a graph. What I want is to give the area under the graph a gradient fill. It would look somewhat similar to a Bloomberg graph like this; My question really has three parts; First, how should I fill only the area under the graph? Second, how do I fill that with a gradient? Finally, if I have multiple lines on the same graph any area under more than one line should have a greyscale gradient fill, how would you set this up? My biggest problem is deciding on the data structures to use, I could use many multiple sided shapes (One for each line/ data series) and then tell the brush to draw; Transparent if it's not in any shape The colour of one series if it's in one shape (Alpha relative to height to give grad) Black if it's in multiple shapes (Alpha relative to height to give grad) Then I'd draw the shapes' boundaries in white afterwards. • jQuery .queue() not working as expected

  The page in question is right here: http://s289116086.onlinehome.us/lawjournaltv/index.php I'm 90% of the way there, I'm just assuming there's an error with my syntax. Focus on the blue callout area with "Workers' Compensation" as the title: Basically, I've created a little slideshow there with the controls at the top and when you click on any of them both the callout and the background are to slide. As you can see it's working now, but the problem is that I want the new background to slide in over the old one. I've tried several things including the queue() method, delay(), and adding everything else to the animate() callback with no success (right now the background goes black and then the new image slides in). You guys have never let me down before, so I'm hoping this is an easy fix. Thanks in advance!

• jQuery fadeIn IE Png Issue when loading from external

  I am loading data from external html files within my domain into a div on my webpage using a load content method in jQuery. I take the div out of the new page whilst hiding the div in the current page by fading this out and fading the new one in. There is a png image in both of these divs and it is creating horrid black blobs in IE, works fine in other browsers but due to IEs inability to process multiple filters its making a mess. I tried using the unit png fix to no avail, does anyone have any fixes or ideas to help keep my pngs looking nice during this transition? i46.tinypic.com/t9dtvr.jpg this is a screenshot of the problem, cheers also discovered that the png that is on the page originaly (before loading anything new) fades in and out perfectly using the unit png fix but stuff loading in and then back out from external files doesnt. Ive added the fix to those pages too but that doesnt work either.

• Cleaning up nasty characters in PHP

  Hi folks, Got a little issue where my client is pasting in content from Word into my little text editor in a CMS. The double quotes are coming back encoded in what looks like some form of UTF. Any ideas if I can strip/replace these using PHP when they get displayed out of my mySQL table. • How to find good looking font color if background color is known?

  There seem to be so many color wheel, color picker, and color matcher web apps out there, where you give one color and the they'll find a couple of other colors that will create a harmonic layout when being used in combination. However most of them focus on background colors only and any text printed on each background color (if text is printed at all in the preview) is either black or white. My problem is different. I know the background color I want to use for a text area. What I need help with is choosing a couple of colors (the more, the merrier) I can use as font colors on this background. Most important is that the color will make sure the font is readable (contrast not being too low, also maybe not being too high to avoid that eyes are stressed) and of course that the combination of foreground and background just looks good. Anyone being aware of such an application? I'd prefer a web application to anything I have to download. Thanks.

• jQuery image grid effect

  I have an image sitting on a page that I want to create a grid type overlay (that covers the image with a black fill) which will be partitioned into 50x50 pixels (what ever size, tbh) squares. The squares on the grid will then flip over, one at a time, in random positions revealing the image below it. The only way I can think of accomplishing this would be to create a whole bunch of grid squares and overlay them on the image with jQuery, then flip each image square individually. This, though, would be a pain in the ass. Doing this all dynamically in jQuery is what I'm hoping to accomplish. Any ideas?

• UITableView via NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate, select first record by default?

  I have a UITableView that gets populated from CoreData via a controller that implements NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate. How can I have it automatically select the first row (and fire the tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath message)? The tableview is used for a variety of predicate queries, so I'm suspicious of solutions that work on the UIViewController lifecycle (viewDidLoad, etc), but I'm new to the platform, so I'm open. I've tried a variety of things, but I'm not sure where in the call stack to put it. I've tried calling cell.selected = true inside tableView:cellForRowAtIndex: method, but that just ends up turning the cell black (and doesn't fire the selected callback method) A tagent question, with all the delegating and core data protocols, does it imply asynchronous data fetch (multiple threads)? Or is the NSFetchedResultsController calling all its related methods in the same thread? Maybe I'm just scared that if it is async, there would be race conditions that would be tough to troubleshoot later.

  Hi all, I'm on a verge of quitting my current job as a .NET programmer. i'm 25 years old and have been a .NET programmer in the past 5-6 years, but now i wonder if maybe i should take this opurtunity and try some other things, like RT\Embedded or Driver development. My pro\cons: i love .NET since you can write enterprise systems with it, learn cool development methodologies and practice many patterns i want to learn RT\Embedded\Driver since its at the heart of so many things and i'm feeling this is a black hole for me. My question are: Is making career leaps a good idea? How can i manage to get myself into a job in RT\Embedded as my whole Resume has c# written all over it. What should i bet my cards on this days? android? java? flash? silverlight? etc?

• Not Seeing Ajax Requests In Firebug If Header Has Been Modified

  Hey braintrust, I'm making an ajax call using jQuery's library to an api, which requires a username and password encoded to base64 be added to the header. here's a basic example: $.ajax({ type: "GET", contentType: 'application/json', beforeSend:function(xhr){ xhr.setRequestHeader("Authentication", "Basic " + base64EncodedValue); } url: 'https://api.company.com/uri/', complete: function(result) { alert(result); } }); But when this fires off, I get a black alert box, so it doesn't appear as if something is coming back. There is no log in the Firebug console that a get ajax request was done. However, if I remove the beforeSend option, I do see the ajax request get logged, but the request gets back a 'not authorized', so it definitely hit the right place. Any ideas on why it's not showing up in Firebug so I can verify the headers are being sent out correctly?
