• .NET Remoting Client's Problem when running on the machine with Multi NICs

  I built a .NET Remoting Client which works quite fine on the machine of single NIC, and lots of testing messages received via remoting event. But when additional NIC was added, the Client seemed to be able to connect the remoting Server, but the testing messages cannot arrive anymore. From debugging, the server end did trigger the event but the client didn't get that. • Problem with writing if condition

  I have two decimal numbers. I want those number to be same upto 4 decimal points without rounding. If numbers are different I want 2nd number to be replaced by 1st. What if condition should I write? Eg, 1. num1 = 0.94618976 num2 = 0.94620239 If we round these numbers upto 4 decimal then we get 0.9462 same number, but I don't want to round these numbers. 2. num1 = 0.94620239 num2 = 0.94639125 The one way I found is take absolute difference of both numbers say diff and then check the value. My problem is of checking the range of diff. I am using delphi but you can answer in any language.Thank You.

  I have some code validating a string of 1 to 32 characters, which may contain only alpha-numerics and hyphens ('-') but may not begin or end with a hyphen. I'm using PCRE regular expressions & PHP (albeit the PHP part is not really important in this case). Right now the pseudo-code looks like this: if (match("/^[\p{L}0-9][\p{L}0-9-]{0,31}$/u", string) and not match("/-$/", string)) print "success!" That is, I'm checking first that the string is of right contents, doesn't being with a '-' and is of the right length, and then I'm running another test to see that it doesn't end with a '-'. Any suggestions on merging this into a single PCRE regular expression? I've tried using look-ahead / look-behind assertions but couldn't get it to work.

• How to check if a variable exists in a FreeMarker template?

  Hi, I have a Freemarker template which contains a bunch of placeholders for which values are supplied when the template is processed. I want to conditionally include part of the template if the userName variable is supplied, something like: [#if_exists userName] Hi ${userName}, How are you? [/#if_exists] However, the FreeMarker manual seems to indicate that if_exists is deprecated, but I can't find another way to achieve this. Of course, I could simple providing an additional boolean variable isUserName and use that like this: [#if isUserName] Hi ${userName}, How are you? [/#if] But if there's a way of checking whether userName exists then I can avoid adding this extra variable. Cheers, Don

• Checkstyle for C#?

  I'm looking to find something along the lines of Checkstyle for Visual Studio. I've recently started a new gig doing .NET work and realized that coding standards here are a bit lacking. While I'm still a young guy and far from the most experienced developer I'm trying to lead by example and get things going in the right direction. I loved the ability to use Checkstyle with Eclipse and examine code before reviews so I'd like to do the same thing with Visual Studio. Anyone have any good suggestions? Another thing I'd be somewhat interested in is a plug-in for SVN that disallows check-in until the main coding standards are met. I do not want people checking in busted code that's going to wind up in a code review. Any suggestions at this point would be great.

• Css attribute selector for input type="button" not working on IE7

  Hi all, I am working on a big form and it contains a lot of buttons all over the form, therefore I am trying to get working input[type="button"] in my main css file so it would catch all buttons with out having to add a class to every single one, for some reason this is not working on IE7, after checking on the web it says that IE7 should be supporting this. Also it has to be type="button" and not type="submit" as not all buttons will submit the form. Could anybody give a hint what am I doing wrong? input[type="button"]{ text-align:center; } I have also tried input[type=button] Any help would be very much apreciated.

  Hello I am wondering what algorithm would be clever to use for a tag driven e-commerce enviroment: Each item has several tags. IE: Item name: "Metallica - Black Album CD", Tags: "metallica", "black-album", "rock", "music" Each user has several tags and friends(other users) bound to them. IE: Username: "testguy", Interests: "python", "rock", "metal", "computer-science" Friends: "testguy2", "testguy3" I need to generate recommendations to such users by checking their interest tags and generating recommendations in a sophisticated way. Ideas: A Hybrid recommendation algorithm can be used as each user has friends.(mixture of collaborative + context based recommendations). Maybe using user tags, similar users (peers) can be found to generate recommendations. Maybe directly matching tags between users and items via tags. Any suggestion is welcome. Any python based library is also welcome as I will be doing this experimental engine on python language.

  I'm working on an automatic trading system. What sorts of safe-guards should I have in place? The main idea I have is to have multiple pieces checking each other. I will have a second independent little process which will also connect to the same trading account and monitor simple things, like ensuring the total net position does not go over a certain limit, or that there are no more than N orders in 10 minutes for example, or more than M positions open simultaneously. You can also check that the actual open positions correspond to what the strategy process thinks it actually holds. As a bonus I could run this checker process on a different machine/network provider. Besides the checks in the main strategy, this will ensure that whatever weird bug occurs, nothing really bad can happen. Any other things I should monitor and be aware of?

• C#: Farm out jobs to worker processes on a multi-processor machine

  Hi there, I have a generic check that needs to be run on ca. 1000 objects. The check takes about 3 seconds. We have a server with 4 processors (and we also have other multi-processor servers in our network) so we would like to create an exe / dll to do the checking and return the results to the "master". Does anyone know of a framework for this, or how would one go about it in C#? Specifically: * What's the best way to transfer data between the master and the worker process? * How would the master ensure that always 4 processes are running at any one time and as soon as a worker process is finished start a new one. * How to register that the worker is finished and append it's results to a list?   Greetings, Just getting into PHP web development. I've got an HTML form where a user checks some series of dynamically-generated checkboxes, and submits via POST. On the PHP side, I want to check which of the check-boxes were clicked. I have an array $full_list, and am doing something like $selected_checkboxes = array_filter($full_list, function($item) { array_key_exists($item, $_POST); } I run into problems when a list item is named, for example "Peanut Butter", since in the POST array it is named "Peanut_Butter". I could certainly just str_replace " " with "_" before checking array_key_exists, but I imagine that there is a more fundamental encoding problem here; specifically, I'm not sure of exactly what layer transforms normal strings in HTML Forms (value="Peanut Butter") into "Peanut_Butter". So: what layer is responsible for this conversion? Is it the browser? what are the exact conversion rules, and is there a PHP function out there that will replicate that exact conversion? Thanks!

  Hi, In my .NET application I am subscribing to events from another class. The subscription is conditional. I am subscribing to events when the control is visible and de-subscribing it when it become invisible. However in some conditions I do not want to de-subscribe the event even if the control is not visible as I want the result of an operation which is happening on background thread . Is there any way through which I can determine if a that class has already subscribed to that event. I know we can do it in the class which will raise that event by checking event with null but I don not know how to do it in a class which will subscribe to that event.

• Storing uploaded content on a website

  For the past 5 years, my typical solution for storing uploaded files (images, videos, documents, etc) was to throw everything into an "upload" folder and give it a unique name. I'm looking to refine my methods for storing uploaded content and I'm just wondering what other methods are used / preferred. I've considered storing each item in their own folder (folder name is the Id in the db) so I can preserve the uploaded file name. I've also considered uploading all media to a locked folder, then using a file handler, which you pass the Id of the file you want to download in the querystring, it would then read the file and send the bytes to the user. This is handy for checking access, and restricting bandwidth for users.

• How do I host a Google gadget? How does it work?

  I just spent 5 hours by checking Google gadgets websites and FAQs, but I still have no idea how to host a gadget. What I've figured from reading the Google documentation: I can write gadgets with XML, JavaScript etc.. Gadgets can be added to iGoogle etc.. Google can host the gadgets for you. Gadgets can be hosted anywhere else??? All of the above information doesn't answer my question. For instance, with jQuery or Dojo Toolkit, I can download the JavaScript framework and use it. With Google gadgets, I can not find a download link for a framework. Why? Does Google provide its framework? If not, why does the documentation indicate that gadgets can be hosted anywhere?   Hi All, I want to enable Access for assistive devices in System Preferences programmatically. But Problem is that my application is not running as root user and i do not want my application to be as root user and also should not ask for any authentication in between. I want to tap all keyboard events globally. I am using CGEventTapCreate() for the same.In the documentation of CGEventTapCreate() API it is mentioned that, Event taps receive key up and key down events if one of the following conditions is true: The current process is running as the root user. Access for assistive devices is enabled. In Mac OS X v10.4 & later, you can enable this feature using System Preferences, Universal Access panel, Keyboard view. I tried manually by checking the Enable Access for assistive devices from System Preference and it gives me expected output. So is there any way to do the same via program without asking for authentication and also application is not running as root user? Thanks, Dheeraj.

• Redundancy algorithm for reading noisy bitstream

  I'm reading a lossy bit stream and I need a way to recover as much usable data as possible. There can be 1's in place of 0's and 0's in palce of 1's, but accuracy is probably over 80%. A bonus would be if the algorithm could compensate for missing/too many bits as well. The source I'm reading from is analogue with noise (microphone via FFT), and the read timing could vary depending on computer speed. I remember reading about algorithms used in CD-ROM's doing this in 3? layers, so I'm guessing using several layers is a good option. • Waiting on multiple asynchronous calls to complete before continuing

  So, I have a page that loads and through jquery.get makes several requests to populate drop downs with their values. $(function() { LoadCategories($('#Category')); LoadPositions($('#Position')); LoadDepartments($('#Department')); LoadContact(); }; It then calls LoadContact(); Which does another call, and when it returns it populates all the fields on the form. The problem is that often, the dropdowns aren't all populated, and thus, it can't set them to the correct value. What I need to be able to do, is somehow have LoadContact only execute once the other methods are complete and callbacks done executing. But, I don't want to have to put a bunch of flags in the end of the drop down population callbacks, that I then check, and have to have a recursive setTimeout call checking, prior to calling LoadContact(); Is there something in jQuery that allows me to say, "Execute this, when all of these are done."?

  Hi, I would like to ask if there's a known issue with the FTP Task of SSIS 2005 on UNIX servers(HP UX B.11.23.). As per checking, we were able to ftp files on Windows Server but not on Unix. Though I can browse the ftp path of the UNIX server from my windows exlporer. I can even manually copy files. But when I tried uploading file thru SSIS FTP task, it does'nt work. Please help.   Hi, I am trying to compile Webkit on Ubuntu 8.04. But when i run autogen.sh, I get the following error saying it needs a newer version of glib. • question about select() and range of for loop to read sockets

  Just a quick question about using select(). I'm using select() to read from multiple sockets. When I looked up examples on how to use select(), a lot of tutorials showed going through for loops and checking for FD_ISSET. The problem I have with those tutorials is that the for loop starts from i = 0. and checks if the bit has been set for the file descriptor i using FD_ISSET. Couldn't the for loop start from say your minfd (just like how you would keep track of maxfd)?? Or am I missing something?? Following link is an example of such for loop (look at the fourth example that he gives) http://www.developerweb.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2933 If that was the only example out there that used such for loop, I might understand it was a mistake or bad coding but I've seen several examples of such for loop of uselessly going through literally thousands of sockets and I'm convinced I'm missing something.   I've been reading that the static methods of the File Class are better used to perform small and few tasks on a file like checking to see if it exists and that we should use an instance of the FileInfo Class if we are going to perform many operations on a specific file. I understand this and can simply use it that way blindly but I would like to know why is there a difference ? What is it about the way they work that make them suitable for different situations ? What is the point of having this 2 different classes that seem do the same in different ways ? It would be helpful if someone could answer at least one of this questions.

• Cannot pull newly-added top-level directory into sparsely-checked out SVN repository

  Our SVN repository is quite large, and pulling the whole thing takes some time. When checking out at home, I was pleased to discover the sparse checkout feature; I checked out the whole repository to a depth of 1, then pulled each top-level directory (directly under the trunk) that I needed to a depth of infinity. Until now this has been brilliant. Recently I added a new directory under trunk. When I do a svn up, I get nothing. The TLD I added will not sync. I normally use Tortoise SVN, so I tried doing this from command line. I tried explicitly specifying the name of the directory, adding --depth infinity, adding --force. None of these tricks has worked. What am I missing?
