  • Creating simple waveforms with CoreAudio

    - by Koning Baard
I am new to CoreAudio, and I would like to output a simple sine wave and square wave with a given frequency and amplitude through the speakers using CA. I don't want to use sound files as I want to synthesize the sound. What do I need to do this? And can you give me an example or tutorial? Thanks.

  • NSString not applying to UILabel

    - by lyonjtill
    - (void)restoreUserDefaults { NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; if([defaults objectForKey:@"Exam Name"] == nil) { examName = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Name"]; } else { examName = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:[defaults objectForKey:@"Exam Name"]]; } [examNameLabel setText:examName]; NSLog(@"New Exam Schedule - Exam Name - %@",[defaults objectForKey:@"Exam Name"]); NSLog(@"examName = %@", examName); NSLog(@"examNameLabel = %@", examNameLabel); } Dear all, Basically above is a basic method to change a UILabel to a saved piece of data. I am having a problem making the label change to the NSString examName. I have checked Interface Builder and it's connected up. Any ideas why? Regards Lyon J Till

  • UIImage imageNamed not autoreleasing correctly

    - by MrHen
For some reason, the retain/release behavior in the following code has me completely baffled. selectedImage = [UIImage imageNamed:@"icon_72.png"]; [selectedImage release]; This should break but does not. Why? I thought imageNamed autoreleased itself which means the release here is redundant and should break when the autorelease occurs. Here are snippets relevant to selectedImage from the .h and .m files: @property (nonatomic, readonly) UIImage *selectedImage; @synthesize delegate, selectedImage, spacerBottom, currentIndex; Other notes, this does break: selectedImage = [UIImage imageNamed:@"icon_72.png"]; [selectedImage release]; [selectedImage release]; //objc[55541]: FREED(id): message release sent to freed object=0x59245b0 //Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION”. As does this: selectedImage = [UIImage imageNamed:@"icon_72.png"]; [selectedImage release]; [selectedImage autorelease]; //objc[55403]: FREED(id): message autorelease sent to freed object=0x59b54c0 //Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION”. And so does the following: selectedImage = [UIImage imageNamed:@"icon_72.png"]; [selectedImage autorelease]; [selectedImage release]; //objc[55264]: FREED(id): message release sent to freed object=0x592c9a0 //Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION”. And so does this: selectedImage = [UIImage imageNamed:@"icon_72.png"]; [selectedImage autorelease]; [selectedImage autorelease]; //objc[55635]: FREED(id): message release sent to freed object=0x5b305d0 //Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION”.

  • Custom cell just failing

    - by ct2k7
Hi, I'm trying to use a custom UITableViewCell, and I've placed it in the same nib file as the UITableView controller. For this, the files are: NTItems.h, NTItems.m and NTItems.xib. I have defined the cell in the header file: IBOutlet UITableViewCell *cellview; and I've correctly applied the property: nonatomic, retain so it's there. In the m file - I've synthesized the variable device and am using this to get the custom cell: if(cell == nil){ cell = self.cellview; } However, when I load the table, I get this horrible mess: There should be more than 1 cell showing data as well. On another note, how do I map the labels to the text which is to be displayed?

  • Saving NSBitmapImageRep as NSBMPFileType file. Wrong BMP headers and bitmap content

    - by niko34
I save a NSBitmapImageRep to a BMP file (Snow Leopard). It seems ok when i open it on macos. But it makes an error on my multimedia device (which can show any BMP file from internet). I cannot figure out what is wrong, but when i look inside the file (with the cool hexfiend app on macos), 2 things wrong: the header have a wrong value for the biHeight parameter : 4294966216 (hex=C8FBFFFF) the header have a correct biWidth parameter : 1920 the first pixel in the bitmap content (after 54 bytes headers in BMP format) correspond to the upper left corner of the original image. In the original BMP file and as specified in the BMP format, it should be the down left corner pixel first. To explain the full workflow in my app, i have an NSImageView where i can drag a BMP image. This View is bind to an NSImage. After a drag & drop i have an action to save this image (with some text drawing over it) to a BMP file. Here's the code for saving the new BMP file : CGColorSpaceRefcolorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateWithName(kCGColorSpaceGenericRGB); CGContextRefcontext = CGBitmapContextCreate(NULL, (int)1920, (int)1080, 8, 4*(int)1920, colorSpace, kCGImageAlphaNoneSkipLast); [duneScreenViewdrawBackgroundWithDuneFolder:self inContext:context inRect:NSMakeRect(0,0,1920,1080) needScale:NO]; if(folderType==DXFolderTypeMovie) { [duneScreenViewdrawSynopsisContentWithDuneFolder:self inContext:context inRect:NSMakeRect(0,0,1920,1080) withScale:1.0]; } CGImageRef backgroundImageRef = CGBitmapContextCreateImage(context); NSBitmapImageRep*bitmapBackgroundImageRef = [[NSBitmapImageRepalloc] initWithCGImage:backgroundImageRef]; NSData*data = [destinationBitmap representationUsingType:NSBMPFileType properties:nil]; [data writeToFile:[NSStringstringWithFormat:@"%@/%@", folderPath, backgroundPath] atomically: YES]; The duneScreenViewdrawSynopsisContentWithDuneFolder method uses CGContextDrawImage to draw the image. The duneScreenViewdrawSynopsis method uses CoreText to draw some text in the same context. Do you know what's wrong?

  • Is garbage collection supported for iPhone applications?

    - by Mustafa
Does the iPhone support garbage collection? If it does, then what are the alternate ways to perform the operations that are performaed using +alloc and -init combination: NSXMLParser *xmlParser = [[NSXMLParser alloc] initWithData:xmlData]; UIImage *originalImage = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:data]; detailViewController = [[[DetailViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"DetailView bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]] autorelease]; ... and other commands. Thank you in advance for any help or direction that you can provide.

  • UITextView in UITableViewCell scrolling problems.

    - by jrtc27
Ok. I have made a custom cell for my table, and it contains a text view. When I have multiple lines in the text view, I can scroll up and down, but in doing this the table also scrolls. How can I stop this behaviour? If anyone needs parts of my code or further details, please just ask. I am more than willing. Thank you for your help

  • iphone image is leaking, but where?

    - by Brodie4598
    the image that is being displayed in this code is leaking but I cant figure out how. What I have a tableview that displays images to be displayed. Each time a user selects an image, it should remove the old image, download a new one, then add it to the scroll view. But the old image is not being released and I cant figure out why... -(void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { [imageView removeFromSuperview]; self.imageView = nil; NSUInteger row = [indexPath row]; NSString *tempC = [[NSString alloc]initWithFormat:@"http://www.website.com/%@_0001.jpg",[pdfNamesFinalArray objectAtIndex:row] ]; chartFileName = tempC; pdfName = [pdfNamesFinalArray objectAtIndex:row]; [tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:indexPath animated:YES]; NSArray* paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *docsPath = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *tempString = [[[NSString alloc]initWithFormat:@"%@/%@.jpg",docsPath,pdfName]autorelease]; NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:tempString]; if (data != NULL){ self.imageView = nil; [imageView removeFromSuperview]; self.imageView = nil; UIImageView *tempImage = [[[UIImageView alloc]initWithImage:[UIImage imageWithData:data]]autorelease]; self.imageView = tempImage; [data release]; scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(imageView.frame.size.width , imageView.frame.size.height); scrollView.maximumZoomScale = 1; scrollView.minimumZoomScale = .6; scrollView.clipsToBounds = YES; scrollView.delegate = self; [scrollView addSubview:imageView]; scrollView.zoomScale = .37; } else { [data release]; self.imageView = nil; [imageView removeFromSuperview]; self.imageView = nil; activityIndicator.hidden = NO; getChartsButton.enabled = NO; chartListButton.enabled = NO; saveChartButton.enabled = NO; [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(downloadImages) toTarget:self withObject:nil]; } chartPanel.hidden = YES; } -(void) downloadImages { NSAutoreleasePool* pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; self.imageView = nil; [imageView removeFromSuperview]; NSURL *url = [[[NSURL alloc]initWithString:chartFileName]autorelease]; NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:url]; UIImageView *tempImage = [[[UIImageView alloc]initWithImage:[UIImage imageWithData:data]]autorelease]; self.imageView = tempImage; tempImage = nil; scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(imageView.frame.size.width , imageView.frame.size.height); scrollView.maximumZoomScale = 1; scrollView.minimumZoomScale = .37; scrollView.clipsToBounds = YES; scrollView.delegate = self; [scrollView addSubview:imageView]; scrollView.zoomScale = .6; activityIndicator.hidden = YES; getChartsButton.enabled = YES; chartListButton.enabled = YES; saveChartButton.enabled = YES; [pool drain]; [pool release]; }

  • Stack Overflow when debugging application in iPhone simulator

    - by mjdth
I'm getting this every time I attempt to debug my app in the simulator: [Session started at 2010-05-11 16:16:52 -0500.] GNU gdb 6.3.50-20050815 (Apple version gdb-1467) (Wed Apr 21 06:57:21 UTC 2010) Copyright 2004 Free Software Foundation, Inc. GDB is free software, covered by the GNU General Public License, and you are welcome to change it and/or distribute copies of it under certain conditions. Type "show copying" to see the conditions. There is absolutely no warranty for GDB. Type "show warranty" for details. This GDB was configured as "x86_64-apple-darwin".sharedlibrary apply-load-rules all Attaching to process 51573. Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. Data Formatters temporarily unavailable, will re-try after a 'continue'. (Cannot call into the loader at present, it is locked.) I've looked around and found a few similar cases, but they all seem to be related to a missing file and an extra necessary build phase. I'm getting no notification of a missing file here so I'm not sure where to start to fix this and get the app running again. Thanks for any insight!

  • Custom Scrollbar for UITableView

    - by iFloh
the iTunes song list display is a TableView that has a dotted scrollbar on the right which allows me to jump to a relative position of the list (i.e. if I click the bar at 2/3 down I am scrolled to the 66% position of the list. I want to do the same in my UITableView, but am not sure whether this is standard functionality that I can use (which class?) or whether this is a custom build ... If the latter, has someone got some samplecode that I could use as a template?

  • Crashing the OS X Pasteboard

    - by Ben Packard
    I have an application that reads in text by emulating CMD-C copy commands and reading the pasteboard - unfortunately this the only way to achieve what I need. Occasionally, something goes wrong in execution (not sure yet if it's related to the copy command or not) and the app crashes. Once in a while, this has a knock on effect on the system-wide pasteboard - any other application that is running will crash if I attempt a copy, cut, or paste. Is there a robust way to handle this - something I should be doing with the NSPasteboard before exiting? Any information on what might be happening is appreciated. For completeness, here are the only snippets of code that access the pasteboard: Reading from the pasteboard: NSString *pBoardText = [[NSPasteboard generalPasteboard]stringForType:NSStringPboardType]; Initially clearing the pasteboard (I run this only once, at launch): [[NSPasteboard generalPasteboard] declareTypes: [NSArray arrayWithObject:NSStringPboardType] owner: self]; [[NSPasteboard generalPasteboard] setString: @"" forType: NSStringPboardType];

  • More specific NSNumberFormatter failure behaviour

    - by Volte
I have an NSTextField into which I need the user to enter a number between a max and min, and it would be nice if I could detect when the NSNumberFormatter fails that particular test so I can either display a nicer message ("The number is too large" is not very helpful, it needs to display the valid range) or simply set the field automatically to the nearest valid value. I've looked at the NSTextField delegate's -control:didFailToFormatString:errorDescription: method which doesn't seem to allow you to modify the error, and I've looked at overriding the NSNumberFormatter's -getObjectValue:forString:range:error: method which does give me an NSError that I can modify, but there doesn't seem to be any way to determine which specific error was returned. Since I am just entering a simple integer, I don't need most of the functionality in NSNumberFormatter, would I be better off just writing my own formatter from scratch?

  • UITableViewCell is 1px shorter in didSelectRowAtIndexPath than cellForRowAtIndexPath

    - by Calvin L
I have a UITableViewCell that I create in tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath:. In that method I call: UITableViewCell *cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:nil] autorelease]; NSLog(@"Cell height: %f", cell.contentView.frame.size.height); This gives me a return value of 44.000000. Then in my tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: method, I call: UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath: indexPath]; NSLog(@"Cell height: %f", cell.contentView.frame.size.height); And this gives me a return value of 43.000000. Aren't they the same cell? What gives?

  • Problem with saveToFile

    - by zp26
    Hi, I have a problem with a NSData writeToFile. I have implemented the code below but i have an anomaly. When i run my program on the simulator, the new file is created and the informations are stored; when i build the app in my device , the file isn't created. The debug don't give me any error but don/t save anything. Can you help me? Thanks so much and sorry for my english. -(void)saveXML:(NSString*)name:(float)x:(float)y:(float)z{ NSMutableData *data = [NSMutableData data]; NSKeyedArchiver *archiver = [[NSKeyedArchiver alloc] initForWritingWithMutableData:data]; [archiver setOutputFormat:NSPropertyListXMLFormat_v1_0]; [archiver encodeFloat:x forKey:@"x"]; [archiver encodeFloat:y forKey:@"y"]; [archiver encodeFloat:z forKey:@"z"]; [archiver encodeObject:name forKey:@"name"]; [archiver finishEncoding]; BOOL result = [data writeToFile:@"XML Position" atomically:YES]; if(result) [self updateTextView:@"success"]; [archiver release]; }

  • MapKit Annotations and User location

    - by teddafan
Hi all, I followed this tutorial to make my first app: http://icodeblog.com/2009/12/21/introduction-to-mapkit-in-iphone-os-3-0/ I would really like to know how to sort the annotations in the Table in order of distance to the user (the nearest annotation is the first one on the table) How is it possible to do that? I understand that I must use the CLLocation to find the user's location but then I have no idea. Could any one help me? Cheers, Thank you in advance for your much appreciated help, teddafan

  • Simply if Statement for checking co-ordinate square.

    - by JonB
I have an UIImageView and taking the raw touch input. I need to check if a touch is within a certain set of squares. At the moment... I have this if statement.... if(46 < touchedAt.x && touchedAt.x < 124 && 18 < touchedAt.y && touchedAt.y < 75) but I have tried to simplify it to this one... if(46 < touchedAt.x < 124 && 18 < touchedAt.y < 75) It didn't work. Is it possible to simplify like this or am I stuck with the slightly lengthier version at the top? Is there a reason why the types of comparisons in the bottom if don't work? Many Thanks.

  • UICollectionViewController nested in a normal UIViewController

    - by patrickS
I have added a UICollectionView into a normal ViewController (MainViewController), and than created a UICollectionViewController Subclass (CollectionViewController) in the ViewController and connected the UICollectionView outlet with the CollectionViewController object _collectionViewController = [[CollectionViewController alloc] initWithCollectionViewLayout:_collectionView.collectionViewLayout]; _collectionView.dataSource = _collectionViewController; _collectionView.delegate = _collectionViewController; In the CollectionViewController I have setup an simple NSArray object and I show this one. This works as expected. But If I try to access the collectionview from the CollectionViewController via self.collectionview I am not able to access this one. I dont know what I have to do, to also connect the collectionview. I have build a sample ios-app it is available at: https://github.com/patricks/uicollectionview-problem The method - (void)outputSelectedCell in the UICollectionViewController always shows, that there is nothing selected… I hope you understand the problem.

  • How to make controls "tabable" when loaded from plugin in Cocoa app?

    - by Randall
I have an application thad loads in plugins that have their own UI. There is an IBOutlet called ContainerView in my AppDelegate. When the plugin loads, it puts its own view (that is stored in a xib in the plugin bundle) into the Container view like so [ContainerView addSubview:viewFromPlugin]; When the view loads, everything is fine but when I press tab the only controls that get any focus are ones outside of the ContainerView and none of them inside it get focus. I've tried setting the container view as the initialFirstResponder and I've tried hooking up the nextKeyView from the last button in the tab order to the ContainerView. Thanks.

  • NSArrayController binding : Suppress "No selection"

    - by Holli
Hello, I have a texfield bound to an ArrayController. The controller key is "selection" because I select items from a NSTableView. But when there are no items in the table the textfield shows the gray text "no selection". How can I suppress this text and have just an empty textfield? Or how can I change the "No selection" text to something else?

  • NSZombieEnabled hides EXC_BAD_ACCESS error entirely

    - by David Liu
So I have a subclass of a UIView that starts causing EXC_BAD_ACCESS errors when I go through a specific set of conditions (run on iPad instead of iPhone or simulator, first login only). It throws the exception when the UIView subclass gets deallocated, during the last line, where I have [super dealloc]. I heard about using NSZombieEnabled, so I tossed that on to see if I could get any more information about it, but now it hides the error completely! Does anyone know a bit more about this type of situation? I thought NSZombie would start spewing stuff into my console like before, but I'm hoping that the nonexistance of errors would tell me some sort of information as well.

  • Binding CoreData Managed Object to NSTextFieldCell subclass

    - by ndg
I have an NSTableView which has its first column set to contain a custom NSTextFieldCell. My custom NSTextFieldCell needs to allow the user to edit a "desc" property within my Managed Object but to also display an "info" string that it contains (which is not editable). To achieve this, I followed this tutorial. In a nutshell, the tutorial suggests editing your Managed Objects generated subclass to create and pass a dictionary of its contents to your NSTableColumn via bindings. This works well for read-only NSCell implementations, but I'm looking to subclass NSTextFieldCell to allow the user to edit the "desc" property of my Managed Object. To do this, I followed one of the articles comments, which suggests subclassing NSFormatter to explicitly state which Managed Object property you would like the NSTextFieldCell to edit. Here's the suggested implementation: @implementation TRTableDescFormatter - (BOOL)getObjectValue:(id *)anObject forString:(NSString *)string errorDescription:(NSString **)error { if (anObject != nil){ *anObject = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:string forKey:@"desc"]; return YES; } return NO; } - (NSString *)stringForObjectValue:(id)anObject { if (![anObject isKindOfClass:[NSDictionary class]]) return nil; return [anObject valueForKey:@"desc"]; } - (NSAttributedString*)attributedStringForObjectValue:(id)anObject withDefaultAttributes:(NSDictionary *)attrs { if (![anObject isKindOfClass:[NSDictionary class]]) return nil; NSAttributedString *anAttributedString = [[NSAttributedString alloc] initWithString: [anObject valueForKey:@"desc"]]; return anAttributedString; } @end I assign the NSFormatter subclass to my cell in my NSTextFieldCell subclass, like so: - (void)awakeFromNib { TRTableDescFormatter *formatter = [[[TRTableDescFormatter alloc] init] autorelease]; [self setFormatter:formatter]; } This seems to work, but falls down when editing multiple rows. The behaviour I'm seeing is that editing a row will work as expected until you try to edit another row. Upon editing another row, all previously edited rows will have their "desc" value set to the value of the currently selected row. I've been doing a lot of reading on this subject and would really like to get to the bottom of this. What's more frustrating is that my NSTextFieldCell is rendering exactly how I would like it to. This editing issue is my last obstacle! If anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated.

  • Pass Result of ASIHTTPRequest "requestFinished" Back to Originating Method

    - by Intelekshual
I have a method (getAllTeams:) that initiates an HTTP request using the ASIHTTPRequest library. NSURL *httpURL = [[[NSURL alloc] initWithString:@"/api/teams" relativeToURL:webServiceURL] autorelease]; ASIHTTPRequest *request = [[[ASIHTTPRequest alloc] initWithURL:httpURL] autorelease]; [request setDelegate:self]; [request startAsynchronous]; What I'd like to be able to do is call [WebService getAllTeams] and have it return the results in an NSArray. At the moment, getAllTeams doesn't return anything because the HTTP response is evaluated in the requestFinished: method. Ideally I'd want to be able to call [WebService getAllTeams], wait for the response, and dump it into an NSArray. I don't want to create properties because this is disposable class (meaning it doesn't store any values, just retrieves values), and multiple methods are going to be using the same requestFinished (all of them returning an array). I've read up a bit on delegates, and NSNotifications, but I'm not sure if either of them are the best approach. I found this snippet about implementing callbacks by passing a selector as a parameter, but it didn't pan out (since requestFinished fires independently). Any suggestions? I'd appreciate even just to be pointed in the right direction. NSArray *teams = [[WebService alloc] getAllTeams]; (currently doesn't work, because getAllTeams doesn't return anything, but requestFinished does. I want to get the result of requestFinished and pass it back to getAllTeams:)
