• Configuring port forwarding on Fortigate 50B

  I can't for the life of me get port forwarding to work on my Fortigate 50B. I followed the setup tips described on this other SF thread with no success. The only specific difference I can find is we are using load balancing through 2 different internet uplinks. Is there any caveat specific to this scenario that I might be missing? If you need any specific additional information please ask because I think I have checked everything: Virtual IP mapping on external interface wan1 ACCEPT all from any on wan1 to the corresponding server on internal No seeming offending firewall rules (any specific pitfalls that I might want to check for?)

• Deleted the GPT partition/ record

  A friend of mine had GPT partition n his Lenovo laptop. While formatting the computer and reinstalling the OS, I wiped of all the partitions, and created 4 new partitions. Now after installing everything, when I turned off the laptop. It isn't booting, I checked the BIOS settings, and tried booting Ubuntu off my life disc, it ran well, but again, I can't boot anymore. Later I figured out, that this is happening because I had deleted the GPT partition, and now the OS has tried to create MBR records, so basically this is the problem.

• Grub2 menu after VMware guest customization

  Hi, I have ubuntu 9.10 desktop VMware VM with the default grub2 installed. There is some weird problem with this VM. When you clone this vm and have a customization script run, the cloned machine crashes at first boot (VMware does not officially suport customizaing Ubuntu newer than 8.04). After the creash the Grub boot menu is displayed but there is not time out. I checked /boot/grub/grub.cfg and it does indeed show a timeout of 10 seconds. Nothing happens till I select an option with the keyboard. The second time the Ubuntu loads, it does not crash. My question is, how do I make the grub menu timeout in that case? Thanks.

• Gmail for Googleapps mail delivery issues

  I have a google apps domain running gmail. One of the owners of one of the email accounts is complaining that some emails don't get delivered to him. I sent him an email that did not get to its destination on one hand but I got no NDR on the other hand. I have already checked that the email was not on in his spam folder. The only thing that he has there is a forwarding rule that is also set up to leave the original in place. I am looking for any tools or ideas on how to debug this.

• iTunes - Duplicate "Purchased on iPhone" playlists

  Whenever I purchase music on my phone and then sync with iTunes later, a duplicate "Purchased on iPhone" playlist will be created. The first one will have everything i've purchased in the past, and the duplicate playlist will have the one or two songs that I just purchased. In the sync options I checked/unchecked the box to have the playlist sync and not sync with my phone. No matter which option I choose I'll always have duplicate playlists when I sync with iTunes. How can I fix this? I don't want a duplicate playlist to be created every time I sync. If i purchase a song on my phone I want it to be added to the existing "Purchased on iPhone playlist".

• Excel graph: turn stacked bar chart into part bullet chart

  I've a simple data file that has one column of actuals and another of target against categories. I would like to turn the TARGET figure into a 'Bullet marker'. I've seen it done on other graphs but I'm struggling with the category column being overwritten with the xy axis values. Or if I get close to doing it then the xy markers are not central. I've checked out Peltier but his examples are based on even more comlicated data than mine, so the steps required didn't seem to match up. Help greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike. • access VPN machine macosx same subnet

  I would like to access the office machine, which has a fixed IP, and is available only in its local LAN. Let say 192.168.1.100. I have a VPN with username/password connection and I am trying to access the office machine from another location, i.e., another LAN, which has the same subnet: 192.168.1.50. I am using MacOSX 10.8. I have checked the "send all trafic over VPN connection, but I think it looks like it doesn't care and is searching in Local. I do not have admin privileges and can't request to make changes to the network settings in both LANs. Is there any way to connect to the desired remote machine?

• Missing HDD space - says 65GB used, selecting all folders shows 40GB used

  Hi Running Windows Server 2008, 74GB raptor drive and noticed we only had about 500MB left - yikes! So deleted some old backups we don't need, but can't track down where about 25GB seems to be taken up. If I go to C: and select all folders and go to properties, this comes to around 40GB but in My Computer I can see 65GB is used. How can I find out whats eating the space? Just IIS + MSSQL Express + Smartermail on the server EDIT Checked to show hidden folders plus protected operating system files - 41.8GB usage, so 24.6GB is missing somewhere. Theres no system restore even installed on the server

• Soft sound problem on Sony Viao NetBook in GTalk and GMail Chat

  I have a new Sony Viao netbook and have a problem with the sound - or lack of loudness thereof. When using GTalk or chat in GMail with earphones all is OK but when using the netbooks' built in speakers the sound is very very faint (also in the GMail Chat test section). I installed the Sony sound drivers and checked all the sound settings, VLC also plays music at an acceptable level but still not as load as my old MacBook did. All settings are set at 100% - but are still too much too soft to use. Anyone got an idea?

• My computer has gone horribly slow, how can I dignose whats wrong?

  I have a computer based on AMD processor & 512 MB RAM. Lately the computer has gone horribly slow. I did many tricks but was of no avail. So, I reinstalled my Operating system - Win XP SP3, still the the response is very slow. I checked if there are any background applications consuming resources. There was nothing suspicious. I removed all the applications on start, still the computer is slow. I've heard that AMD processor based systems show this behavior when they get aged. Is it true? Should I just buy a new system?

• SSL Certificate Stops Working after Server Reboot on IIS7, W2K8

  We recently upgraded from W2K3/IIS6 to W2K8/IIS7 and have been having problems with our SSL Certificate (Thawte 123 SSL certificate) ceasing to work after rebooting. Initially, the intermediate certificates would stop working and we could repair the problem by reinstalling all of them after the reboot (annoying, but not the end of the world). Unfortunately, this is no longer working. The certificate chain has been doublechecked by several tools and people with decent knowledge but no one has been able to identify the cause of the problem. The bindings in IIS have been checked as well The cert itself is also still valid. NOTE 1: I have seen THIS question which seems to be very similar, but there is no satisfactory answer in that post and it's a year old so not likely to get one any time soon. NOTE 2: I'm asking this on behalf of a co-worker so won't be able to provide instant feedback to any questions/suggestions but I will pass it on.   Hi, we used the following scenario sucessfully over a long period of time: Remotely log onto a Win XP server, which is used by one user most/all of time Schedule a task using the "task planner" Task was run at "almost" each scheduled point of time (seldom it did not start, presumably when someone else was logged in). For some time now, we share the server with several users. Even though I checked an option for running independently of the logged in user, this option does not seem to work. Now, the task is seldom executed, not seldom not executed. Now, the question is: is there some other option I can't see which disables the execution OR, even better, is there some other tool which we can use for task scheduling on Win XP servers with several different users?

• How do I troubleshoot CanoScan LIDE20 on Ubuntu 9.10 in VirtualBox?

  This may be a VirtualBox question more than anything else. The host OS is Win7, which sees the scanner, but has no drivers for it. VirtualBox sees & recognizes the scanner as "Cannon Scan" and shows "state captured" when I hover over USB devices. Searching gives me many happy reports of this particular scanner being well supported, and that SANE should work with it immediately (also listedin the Supported Hardware List. I get "no devices available" from XSane... and I'm not sure where else I can check. I'd like to see if VirtualBox is telling the truth and find out if the USB port is actually being fed into the virtual OS. Can anyone point me in the right direction of where/how to do that in Ubuntu? Or other bright ideas. I'm starting with a little project to add some zing to my beginner linux studies - I'm sure I haven't checked some obvious things, because I don't know them yet. ;)

• replace windows xp with ubuntu no usb boot option and no cd?

  I have an old laptop running windows xp, I want to replace it with the latest version of ubuntu. The problem is that the laptop does not support boot from usb - I checked the BIOS but the option is not working, I tried http://www.pendrivelinux.com/testing-your-system-for-usb-boot-compatibility/ but with no luck. I also tried burning the iso on a dvd but the burn process keeps failing. What options do I have? Isn't it possible to install ubuntu somehow by downloading it and replacing it with the current OS?

• Error while loading shared libraries - libwebsock

  Im trying to setup libwebsock, simple C websocket library. I followed the installation procedure from INSTALL file, everything went fine. Im able to compile test program given in the examples. But when I want to run my executable, wild error appears: ./echo: error while loading shared libraries: libwebsock.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I checked /usr/local/lib twice, libwebsock.so.1 exists and is doing very well. I also tried copying the lib to the echo folder (so its placed next to binary), still same error. • Memory compatibility?

  I'm in the process of building a PC intended mostly for gaming and I've got a few questions. Currently, I only have the motherboard and CPU: Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z68AP-D3 CPU: Intel Core i3-2120 My main question is about memory compatibility. I have 4 Hynix 2GB HMT125U7BFR8C-G7 with light-moderate use laying around and I'd love to save a few bucks if I can. I've read that this is server memory... a) Will that be a problem for PC use? b) Is it compatible with the motherboard? I've emailed Hynix and checked Crucial to no avail. If incompatible, what memory would be a good fit given the components I have? The motherboard has 4 sockets and supports up to 32GB, but I don't know that I have the budget for that at the moment. • What prevents Windows from entering standby?

  Is there a tool or method to find out, what prevents Windows Vista 32 bit from entering the standby mode? My home pc is set to standby after a certain time of inactivity. But quite often it just stays awake and I have know idea why. I know of things that will keep it awake and already checked devices and network to no avail. I suspect there is some application or service that tells the os to stay active and I hope there is some tool to find the culprit.

• Port forwarding through a client bridge

  I am having a problem with port forwarding with a client bridge. My main router is a 2wire router from AT&T using their firmware. It is a Router/Modem. In my room, there is a Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT on it. I have set up the DD-WRT one as a Client bridge for my PC. I can access the internet on my computer using it but when I try and port forward, the ports stay closed. I am port forwarding on my main router (2wire) and it doesn't work. I have checked online and all I see is that I should only need to forward on the main router since the client bridge has NAT disabled, but it seems to not work that way. Any ideas?

• Laptop turns off after 20 minutes of use

  My laptop a sony vaio VGN-NW11S http://www.trustedreviews.com/Sony-VAIO-VGN-NW11S-S---15-5in-Laptop_Laptop_review. Everytime i turn it on, in safe mode or not, if i try to open an application i.e. run a process such as google chrome or event viewer, defrag, virus scan, it completely turns off without warning, nor giving a trace of events the next time I switch it on. Apart from that, I had worries it might be my battery or power supply but I dont think it is that, I took the laptop apart cleaning fans etc. and have ordered some cpu paste as I checked to see the condition of the processor. I will post to see if re-applying the paste works. One more thing, when the heavy processes kick in, the fan starts to make a lot of noise, maybe trying to cool down the CPU? Any ideas on what else it could be and what I could do to test what is wrong?

• How to prevent Spell checking code in MS Office?

  We use MS Office. Outlook for emails, Word for some documentation and I use OneNote a lot for my own note taking. What bugs me is when I drop some code or use key words or even camel case into these apps the spell checking picks them up and I have red squiggles everywhere. Ignore is pretty much useless, so either I have to turn off Spell Check altogether start adding these to the custom dictionary. What would be good is if I can use the Set Language function to mark a whole block of text to just not be spell checked. Has anyone found a nice solution to this or do you know of a blank dictionary is best to use? I found using "Mohawk" kind of does that... might just use that for now. Maybe create a macro to switch between them.

  I was enjoying a Movie when my Ubuntu suddenly hung. At the next reboot, here is the message: One or more of the mounts listed in /etc/fstab cannot yet be mounted: /home: waiting for /dev/disk/by-uuid/.... Press ESC to enter a recovery shell. Problems: When I enter recovery shell, I don't know that to do. If I press Ctrl+D, then the message above will reappear. What should I do? I checked with Ubuntu Live CD and my partition looks OK.

• Older raid controllers in raid 5 vs. Jbod and SW raid

Im in the fortunate position to have 6 Supermicro older VOD servers with the following config: Supermicro 3U case, 3xPSU Dual Xeon 3ghz P4 class cpu (5 years old.. havnt checked the exact type) 4GB Ram 3ware 9500-8 SATA controller 8 SATA SLOTS and alot of free drives. 2GB FLASH Bootdrive What im curious about is the RAID5 performance on these old beasts in HW mode vs. SW on Linux with the controller set in JBOD mode. Im thinking on using Centos 5.5 or Ubuntu or ZFS RaidZ on Opensolaris. Any tips? or reccomendations ? best regards TEB

• Trouble Connecting to Virtual Machine after IP address Change

  I have a VMware image running a copy of Fedora 11 which is hosted on a remote server. The remote server recently had its IP address change. I'm now unable to connect to my virtual machine. The server admin assures me that my virtual machine is running and assigned the new IP address. I have checked the firewalls and had the remote admin restart the VM instance. Neither of these fixed the problem. How do I troubleshoot a remote server which I am unable to SSH to? I'm actually even unable to ping the remote IP (connection timed out).
