• rails didnt install correclty, specificly the uninstaller

  ive just installed rails using railsinstaller.org for osx, rails and ruby seem to be working ok (checked by running rails -v and ruby --version). But when it installed i got an error saying that not there were errors and the uninstaller didnt install correctly. Somthing odd i saw was that when i load terminal i get this showing up Last login: Fri Nov 30 13:12:09 on ttys000 unknown5c969d7cc475:~ Sam$ specificly the "unknon5c96..." part im not sure if its related ? I think i might have got the install error as xcode wasnt installed first, for peice of mind id like to unistall it and load it back on, but when i try and run the installer from the application folder it just asks for my password and then dose nothing.. any ideas how i can fix this ?

  Hi I just started my computer up & opened a website for my checking my mail, when I opened a Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 window popped up. C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\rse47wp8.default\Cache\C\79\D5CC9d01 Does anyone is familiar with this? I checked the path and this path doesn't exist. I couldn't remember that I have a file of D5CC9d01 once. Can somebody please tell me if this is a virus or not? Thanks

• How to get notifications from Windows Update when optional updates are available?

  On my Windows 7 I set windows update to "download updates, but let me choose whether to install them". The problem is I don't get a notification when an optional update is available like definition updates for microsoft security essentials. I have "give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" checked, but I have no notification balloon or icon when there is a new optional update is available. From time to time I open Windows update and then I see I have new optional updates available. How to get notifications for those too?

• Asterisk failing at startup after upgrading to asterisk18

  I was using asterisk16 and asterisk16-skypeforasterisk, which was working fine. I have recently upgraded to asterisk18 and asterisk18-skypeforasterisk, after that I am receiving the following error message. Asterisk ended with exit status 1 Asterisk died with code 1. Asterisk could not start! Use 'tail /var/log/asterisk/full' to find out why. When I checked the log I got the following messages. codec_g729a.c: == Found total of 11 G.729 licenses translate.c: empty buf size, you need to supply one Now, if I remove the /var/lib/asterisk/licenses folder it works fine. • HELP! Free space not reclaimed after online resizing ext4 in Ubuntu 9.10

  My root partition was filling up, with only 500 mbs left, I wanted to resize my root partition from 20 Gb to 40Gb So I resized my partition by using these steps: Using Gparted to resize another partition to give space for the EXT4 Using fdisk, deleting the root partition (on /dev/sda2), and creating it again using the new size resize2fs /dev/sda2 Updating grub2 But now the problem is that although I can boot in my new partition and the new partition shows it is 40Gb, but the free size was still 500mb. So I booted from a LiveCD and checked with e2fsck -p /dev/sda2, it reported clean. So I added the -f flag (force check), still, the drive is full.

• nginx php-fpm trouble

  Hello, we're using php-fpm and have trouble getting the scripts to work if we change the 'root' value in nginx.conf. location ~ \.php$ { root /usr/share/nginx/html ; If we change that root to point to other directory, even if it's /usr/share/nginx/html/crap, it wouldn't work. The directory exists of course. It's like it can read the file in that directory, but not execute it. I've checked all file permissions. Anyone has any idea?

• Connecting/Adding a private network on windows server 2008

  Hey all, I have a dual server configuration on a host provider using VPS. I was told by my Host provider that in order to use free bandwidth between my two servers (they are in the same location) I need to add a alias "subnet" to a specific ip (A private network, VPN). How do I add an aliased ip in widnwos? in Linux the relevant command is supposed to be (By my search in blogs) "ifconfig eth0:1 10.129.175.165 netmask 255.255.255.0" They also said that another way to connect between the servers (should also be faster) is to use "private lan", but as it happens I don't know how to define one :(. Is there a windows equivalent or another way to do this? I have checked my ip config and found no indication of the private lan or the VPN ip.

• Macbook Pro (SantaRosa) internal display not detected by graphics card, external monitor OK

  My MacBook Pro (2.4 Ghz, Santa Rosa with infamous nVidia card) acts strange. It shows the normal gray screen with Apple logo and animation flawlessly during start up but the internal display goes black without any rendering at all when all is loaded. (shining a light on display show nothing) If an external monitor is connected through the DVI port it will remain black during start up and then show the desktop as the internal display goes black. This happens both while booting to Mountain Lion and Windows XP. I have checked "About my Mac" and only the external display is listed. The same is the case if I use the nVidia Control panel in Windows XP. My questions: Is this a hardware problem or is it related to software maybe even firmware? What controls the display during start up, graphics card or something else?

• how to detect device type from connected device to router?

  i have a att router and there is an unknown device connected to my network. i cant seem to kick it off because of how att's router settings are created which is kind of dumb. i am able to see its local ip and mac address. i am on a mac with snow leopard. how can i get more information on the device with the information that i have? i want to see what kind of device it is, i have checked all deviced that are connected to the router and non seem to match the local ip that is connected. i have wpa encryption setup with a strong password.

• How to charge an iPhone on a Windows PC without Installaing iTunes

  I want to be able to charge my iPhone on my work computer, which is running Windows Server 2008 SP1 64-Bit. When I plug the iPhone in with the USB cable, it will not charge. Windows attempts to locate a driver for the device but only comes up with a generic Camera device and even if I allow that to be installed, the iPhone still does not charge. I have checked the computer's BIOS settings and did not find anything relating to power on the USB devices. I also tried this on ports at the back of the computer in addition to those on the front. The PC is a Dell Optiplex 780. As far as I can tell USB devices do not charge unless Windows has installed an appropriate driver. Since it is a work computer I do not want to install iTunes which does include a driver. I have a workaround that I will post as an answer for reference.

• Exchange unable to relay mail outbound

  I have some users congigured in exchange 2003 (delivery options tab) to forward mails to their external address. This was working fine until today. The mails are being held up in the SMTP queue folder. I am able telnet the addresses (e.g. google.com) at port 25 from the server. Any reason why the mails are held up? Other emails are going ou. It's only the mailboxes configured to forward the mail out to the public email addresses. I also did the following Check event logs for errors. Nothing. Checked my domain on blacklists. Nothing. Any idesa?

• Outlook 2007 disconnecting after sending email to specific email

  So when a user emails another tech in my domain they get the prompt for username/password as though they got disconnected. I have not seen any issues in the event logs, tried deleting the email address from his auto correct, ran Outlook in safe mode and searched online as well. I am kind of lost. Checked the event logs on the exchange server as well in the security and still nothing. Exchange 2010, Client OS: Vista x64, Outlook 2007. Thanks!

• Not able to use FTP acount created with pure ftpd

  I made the new user using this command pure-pw useradd droa -u 52007 -g 52009 -d /home/droa/public_html But when i connect using ftp , it says that Login authentication failed. Which other setting i need to use. I also have cpanel where i sued to create accounts. Even i checked the /etc/pureftpd.passwd File as well , but it only had one user which i created. I don't know which ftp does cpanel uses. The documentation of pureftp says that i need to compile with (--with-everything) Is there any way to do that without re-compiling

• cygwin rsync over ssh very slow

  I have 2 machines running Windows Xp SP3. I have cygwin installed on both, version 1.7. I have rsync and ssh installed on both, and configured using default settings as per ssh-host-config and ssh-user-config programs provided. I moved the public keys into their respective locations, and basically ssh is working fine. i began an rsync operation, using: rsync -av --delete --hard-links local_dir username@other_machine:/some_dir well... on both machines, the processor is running near idle, no heavy usage. I checked IO using process explorer on both machines, and that too is at normal levels (1~2 MB/s), so I can't see where the bottlenecks are, because network performance is aweful. I'm not going over 1MB/s... when a normal file copy using windows sharing achieves some ~10 MB/s.. What could be wrong?

  The situation: I downloaded Windows 8 RTM from MSDN (I have a subscription). Naturally, I downloaded the product key as well. Windows 8 installed like a dream: lightning fast with no problems. I accepted the product key at the beginning of the install. Next, I thought I would download Updates, but they failed, so I checked the system's activation in Control Panel System. Problem: It returned "Product ID: Not available." There's nothing under "Windows activation" that I can click on, no blue links. I had a 'Chat' with MSDN, who introduced me to SLUI.exe. On Windows 8 it did nothing. (On Windows 7 it is supposed to bring up the Activation Menu). I phoned the Microsoft Activation number, they told me to contact MSDN. MSDN left the 'chat' by telling me to contact Microsoft! Hmm... I wonder if anyone at SuperUser can help?

• Volume randomly turning itself down on Windows 7 64-bit

  This is the weirdest issue I've ever encountered with my PC. Every so often, my sound will start playing back at a lower volume. This happens when watching video, listening to music, all independently. It usually lasts anywhere up to a minute, after which it will turn up again. The weird thing about it is that the volume control in Windows remains at 100%, even though the volume is audibly a lot lower. (No, I'm not going deaf, it's just my PC. I checked.) I just have no idea where to go to troubleshoot this, even. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit with an on-board Realtek sound-card. Oh, just in case someone finds this question on Google or whatever, making sure this is on Do Nothing may fix your problem. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. My settings all seem fine. • Run chromium-browser on Linux with fullscreen and application modes ON

  Some time ago chromium-browser was supporting a so called "kiosk mode", which could start chromium in fullscreen and removed unnecessary titlebar and some other UI components. Right now it looks like it's no longer supported. After few updates the same script that I was using for launching kiosk mode is not behaving the same. I checked some sites and learned that recently they introduced a so called "application mode" (--app=http://mysite.com). All cool and neat, but application mode does no longer enforce fullscreen. How could I force chromium-browser to behave exactly as in previous kiosk mode?

• How to turn off power metering in HP ILO2?

  I have an issue with all of my RHEL 5.3 servers, where HP iLo2 power meter checks the power draw of the power supply on the server. However this gets passed to the /var/log/messages in our host, and eventually fills up the logs. Anyone have any idea how to completely disable power meter option in iLo? I checked google and iLo2 documentation provided from HP, but found nothing that tells you how to disable it / turn it off. Maybe some CLI command? Im not sure.   Consider the following situation. A remote repository has two branches master and b1. In addition it has two clones repo1 and repo2 and both have b1 checked out. At some point, in repo1 the name of b1 was changed. As far as I can tell, the following is the right procedure to change the name of b1: $ git branch b1 b2 # changes the name of b1 to b2 $ git push remote :b1 # delete b1 remotely $ git push --set-upstream origin b2 # create b2 remotely and direct the local branch to track the remote 1 Now, afterwards, in repo2 I face a problem. git pull doesn't pull the changes from the branch (which is now called remotely b2). The error returned is: Your configuration specifies to merge with the ref 'b1' from the remote, but no such ref was fetched. What is the right way to do this? Both the renaming part and the updating in other clones?

Turning off cached mode on Outllok clients still errors Public fiolders / System folders are fine OABINTEG detects no issues, Pfdavadmin has checked all DACL The GAL and OAB have been deleted / recreated several times (With differnt names) DCDIAG, NETDIAG, ExchangeBPA all run without error Exhausted Google links diagnosing this issue, any suggestions?

  I recently upgraded from the previous LTS Ubuntu to Precise and now mysql refuses to start.   Windows Storage Server 2003 We have Shadow Copy (VSS) enabled for one volume. However Previous Version tab is not visible on the server on properties dialogs on any file or folder on that volume. We don't want this tab to be visible on the clients, just on the server. I've checked the VSS settings and they're definitly enabled for the volume. I'm stuck! Do I have to install the client-software on the server? The folder \%systemroot%\system32\clients\twclient contains 3 empty subdirs (location copies from docs)...

• create log for an encrypted tar

  I want to create an encrypted tar but also I want to have a log of what tar has compressed, I'm using the following command: tar -cvvf - --files-from=/root/backup.cfg | openssl des3 -salt -k backuppass | dd of=/root/tmp/back.encrypted But I need to have a log of tar's stdout. I don't know how to get it, because If I use "" in tar command openssl result is not correct. I've also checked tar manual hoping to find some option to write stdout to a file, but I have found nothing. any help? thanks & Regards.
