  • Iphone contact photo

    - by Kiran
    I tried to search an answer for this but couldn't find one. My iPhone application needs to access the Photo associated with the contact in the phonebook. However, it also needs to make sure that every time application is launched, it verifies that the photo is the same. So, in essence, I am trying to access the photo used by contacts database for a person's phone number or email address. - Is there a way for me to do this? Any help is appreciated.

  • use startActivityForResult from non-activity

    - by rayman
    Hi, I have MainActivity which is an Activity and other class(which is a simple java class), we`ll call it "SimpleClass". now i want to run from that class the command startActivityForResult. now i though that i could pass that class(SimpleClass), only MainActivity's context, problem is that, u cant run context.startActivityForResult(...); so the only way making SimpleClass to use 'startActivityForResult; is to pass the reference of MainActivity as an Activity variable to the SimpleClass something like that: inside the MainActivity class i create the instance of SimpleClass this way: SimpleClass simpleClass=new SimpleClass(MainActivity.this); now this is how SimpleClass looks like: public Class SimpleClass { Activity myMainActivity; public SimpleClass(Activity mainActivity) { super(); this.myMainActivity=mainActivity; } .... } public void someMethod(...) { myMainActivity.startActivityForResult(...); } now its working, but isnt a proper way of doing this? I`am afraid i could have some memory leaks in the future. thanks. ray.

  • NSXMLParser + encoding="windows-1257"

    - by Moze
    So i'm making small program and it download ziped XML database file that is ~30 MB size (unziped). As I understand there is only way with such big files on iPhone, it's to use NSXMLParser. But that file is encoded with windows-1257 format and NSXMLParser does not eat files like that. What can I do? Is there a way to change file encoding on iphone or make NSXMLParser work with other then UTF8 encoded files?

  • iPhone UINavigation Controller issue?

    - by NextRev
    I have 3 different xib's. I am able to go back and forth between view 1 and view 2 with the following code... This Code brings up the second view... -(IBAction)startButtonClicked:(id)sender{ self.gamePlayViewController = [[GamePlayViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"GamePlayViewController" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:gamePlayViewController animated:YES]; [GamePlayViewController release]; } This Code is executed in the second view and brings me back to the first view... -(IBAction)backButtonClicked{ [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } Now when I try to execute this code (in the second view) to get to the third view...I get SIGABRT and the app crashes...why does it work for the first view bringing up the second view, but not for the second view bringing up the 3rd view? -(IBAction)nextView{ self.thirdViewController = [[ThirdViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ThirdViewController" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:thirdViewController animated:YES]; [thirdViewController release]; }

  • Problems with testing in app purchases

    - by sashaeve
    I am trying to test my application with in app purchases. I created features, test user, logged out from iTunes on the iPhone and used developer certificate. Load app from XCode in debug mode. When I click "Buy" button I pass all checks for internet availability, canMakePayments and call SKPayment *payment = [SKPayment paymentWithProductIdentifier:featureId]; [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] addPayment:payment]; But all what I see is a pending view and after some minutes it failed in - (void) failedTransaction: (SKPaymentTransaction *)transaction { if (transaction.error.code != SKErrorPaymentCancelled) { NSLog(@"failedTransaction"); } [[MKStoreManager sharedManager] paymentCanceled]; [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] finishTransaction: transaction]; } Please advice in what direction I should go to figure out the problem and what else I should check. P.S. All related questions on SO were checked with no luck.

  • NSNumberFormatter to display custom labels for 10^n (10000 -> 10k)

    - by Michele Colombo
    I need to display numbers on a plot axis. The values could change but I want to avoid too long numbers that will ruin the readability of the graph. My thought was to group every 3 characters and substitute them with K, M and so on (or a custom character). So: 1 - 1, 999 - 999, 1.000 - 1k, 1.200 - 1.2k, 1.280 - 1.2k, 12.800 - 12.8k, 999.999 - 999.9k, 1.000.000 - 1M, ... Note that probably I'll only need to format round numbers (1, 10, 1000, 1500, 2000, 10000, 20000, 30000, 100000, ...). Is that possibile with NSNumberFormatter? I saw that it has a setFormat method but I don't know how much customizable it is. I'm using NSNumberFormatter cause the graph object I use wants it to set label format and I want to avoid changing my data to set the label.

  • Preserving alpha issues with loaded UIImages - how to avoid discarding alpha values on import?

    - by Peter Hajas
    My application lets the user save/load images with alpha values to the camera roll on the device. I can see in the Photos application that these images are appropriately alpha'd, as alpha'd areas just appear black. However, when I load these images back into the application using the valueForKey:UIImagePickerControllerOriginalImage message to the info dictionary from (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo:(NSDictionary *)info, the alpha values are turned to just white, making those sections opaque. Is there a way to preserve these alpha values?

  • How can I fix this NavigationController and UIToolbar offset issue in Objective-C?

    - by editor
    I'm adding a couple of buttons to an already-existing NavigationController. The two buttons are added to a UIView, which is pushed onto the NavigationItem. The buttons stop and reload a UIWebView. Problem is that there's a slight offset issue that is making it all look pretty ugly. I wish I could set the UIToolbar to transparent or clear background but that doesn't seem to be an option. Can't seem to use negative offsets either. I've got color matching, but if you look closely there's 1px or 2px of highlighting up top that's causing a visual mismatch and then a slight offset at the bottom. Some relevant code below (based on this, inbound Googlers). What are my options to resolve this? // create a toolbar for the buttons UIToolbar* toolbar = [[UIToolbar alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 100, 45)]; [toolbar setBarStyle: UIBarStyleDefault]; UIColor *colorForBar = [[UIColor alloc] initWithRed:.72 green:0 blue:0 alpha:0]; toolbar.tintColor = colorForBar; [colorForBar release]; //[toolbar setTranslucent:YES]; // create an array for the buttons NSMutableArray* buttons = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithCapacity:3]; // create a standard reload button UIBarButtonItem *reloadButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemRefresh target:self action:@selector(reload)]; reloadButton.style = UIBarButtonItemStyleBordered; [buttons addObject:reloadButton]; [reloadButton release]; // create a spacer between the buttons UIBarButtonItem *spacer = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemFixedSpace target:nil action:nil]; [buttons addObject:spacer]; [spacer release]; // create a standard delete button with the trash icon UIBarButtonItem *stopButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemStop target:self action:@selector(stopLoading)]; stopButton.style = UIBarButtonItemStyleBordered; [buttons addObject:stopButton]; [stopButton release]; // put the buttons in the toolbar and release them [toolbar setItems:buttons animated:NO]; [buttons release]; // place the toolbar into the navigation bar self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:toolbar]; [toolbar release];

  • Problem generating APN SSL certificate after submitting to apple store

    - by MikeQ
    I'm having trouble getting Apple to generate an APN SSL certificate for my app ID. I've submitted the application to the Apple store, and it is pending review. I tested the application using an Ad Hoc app ID "${bundle_id}.adHoc" and everything went fine. I submitted to the Apple store with app ID "${bundle_id}.release". Now I want to generate my production APN SSL certificate for use with my release application ID - but the developer portal doesn't want to. When I upload my certificate request, it sits for about a minute before telling me: "We are not able to generate your Profile at this time. Please try again later or try using the Provisioning Portal" Is it impossible to generate your certificate while the application is under review or something? Should I have generated it prior to submission?

  • Toubleshooting mapkit performance

    - by brettr
    I'm plotting over 500 points on a map using mapkit. Zooming is a little jittery compared to the native google map app. I've discovered what is causing the slowness. I'm adding custom annotations so that I can later add different pin colors and buttons for detail views: - (MKAnnotationView *) mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView viewForAnnotation:(AddressNote *) annotation { MKPinAnnotationView *annView=[[MKPinAnnotationView alloc] initWithAnnotation:annotation reuseIdentifier:@"currentlocation"]; annView.pinColor = MKPinAnnotationColorGreen; annView.animatesDrop=TRUE; annView.canShowCallout = YES; annView.calloutOffset = CGPointMake(-5, 5); return annView; } If I comment out the above code, everything works fine. Very smooth with zooming in/out. Should I be adding annotations differently to boost performance?

  • Cocoa-Created PDF Not Rendering Correctly

    - by Matthew Roberts
    I've created a PDF on the iPad, but the problem is when you have a line of text greater than 1 line, the content just goes off the page. This is my code: void CreatePDFFile (CGRect pageRect, const char *filename) { CGContextRef pdfContext; CFStringRef path; CFURLRef url; CFMutableDictionaryRef myDictionary = NULL; path = CFStringCreateWithCString (NULL, filename, kCFStringEncodingUTF8); url = CFURLCreateWithFileSystemPath (NULL, path, kCFURLPOSIXPathStyle, 0); CFRelease (path); myDictionary = CFDictionaryCreateMutable(NULL, 0, &kCFTypeDictionaryKeyCallBacks, &kCFTypeDictionaryValueCallBacks); NSString *foos = @"Title"; const char *text = [foos UTF8String]; CFDictionarySetValue(myDictionary, kCGPDFContextTitle, CFSTR(text)); CFDictionarySetValue(myDictionary, kCGPDFContextCreator, CFSTR("Author")); pdfContext = CGPDFContextCreateWithURL (url, &pageRect, myDictionary); CFRelease(myDictionary); CFRelease(url); CGContextBeginPage (pdfContext, &pageRect); CGContextSelectFont (pdfContext, "Helvetica", 12, kCGEncodingMacRoman); CGContextSetTextDrawingMode (pdfContext, kCGTextFill); CGContextSetRGBFillColor (pdfContext, 0, 0, 0, 1); NSString *body = @"text goes here"; const char *text = [body UTF8String]; CGContextShowTextAtPoint (pdfContext, 30, 750, text, strlen(text)); CGContextEndPage (pdfContext); CGContextRelease (pdfContext);} Now the issue lies within me writing the text to the page, but the problem is that I can't seem to specify a multi-line "text view".

  • What is the best way to extend restful_authentication/AuthLogic to support lazy logins by an anonymo

    - by Kevin Elliott
    I'm building an iPhone application that talks to a Ruby on Rails backend. The Ruby on Rails application will also service web users. The restful_authentication plugin is an excellent way to provide quick and customizable user authentication. However, I would like users of the iPhone application to have an account created automatically by the phone's unique identifier ([[UIDevice device] uniqueIdentifier]) stored in a new column. Later, when users are ready to create a username/password, the account will be updated to contain the username and password, leaving the iPhone unique identifier intact. Users should not be able to access the website until they've setup their username/password. They can however, use the iPhone application, since the application can authenticate itself using it's identifier. What is the best way to modify restful_authentication to do this? Create a plugin? Or modify the generated code? What about alternative frameworks, such as AuthLogic. What is the best way to allow iPhones to get a generated auth token locked to their UUID's, but then let the user create a username/password later?

  • VerifyError When Running jUnit Test on Android 1.6

    - by DKnowles
    Here's what I'm trying to run on Android 1.6: package com.healthlogger.test; public class AllTests extends TestSuite { public static Test suite() { return new TestSuiteBuilder(AllTests.class).includeAllPackagesUnderHere().build(); } } and: package com.healthlogger.test; public class RecordTest extends AndroidTestCase { /** * Ensures that the constructor will not take a null data tag. */ @Test(expected=AssertionFailedError.class) public void testNullDataTagInConstructor() { Record r = new Record(null, Calendar.getInstance(), "Data"); fail("Failed to catch null data tag."); } } The main project is HealthLogger. These are run from a separate test project (HealthLoggerTest). HealthLogger and jUnit4 are in HealthLoggerTest's build path. jUnit4 is also in HealthLogger's build path. The class "Record" is located in com.healthlogger. Commenting out the "@Test..." and "Record r..." lines allows this test to run. When they are uncommented, I get a VerifyError exception. I am severely blocked by this; why is it happening? In that method I have the code above that resizes my image and at the end of the method I have a return newImage; The instruments show me a leak at line UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(targetSize); //instruments show here a leak 128bytes What am I doing wrong? Where exactly is the leak?
