  • Improving lossless codecs [closed]

    - by LarsOn
    Improve the name to match positively Starting just discussing the naming first ignoring tech details, lossless is a negative and double negative word for one good reason should get named more appropriate: Lossless also matches nothing. When naming like all intact or likewise matches something in a manner more physical like sounds are. Then more technically stated that a copy might contain more information than the original. Does method as such have a name, if so what do I refer to, can we name it if you please or just discuss related handling.

  • Add Image to Base64 Encoded ImageStream in Resources (resx)

    - by NickAldwin
    I'm working on an older project, updating it. Part of the program has a toolstrip with many buttons on it, each with an image. I found that the images are stored in a Base64 encoded imagestream in the resx for the form and accessed as such: System.ComponentModel.ComponentResourceManager resources = new System.ComponentModel.ComponentResourceManager(typeof(Form1)); ... this.imageList1 = new System.Windows.Forms.ImageList(this.components); ... this.toolStrip1.ImageList = this.imageList1; ... this.imageList1.ImageStream = ((System.Windows.Forms.ImageListStreamer)(resources.GetObject("imageList1.ImageStream"))); ... this.toolStripButton1.ImageIndex = 0; //There are 41 images, so this can be between 0 and 40 I need to add another button with a new image. How can I add an image to this stream? I cannot use the designer, as it crashes as soon as I load the form (I believe because it uses a custom component with unsafe code). I could always just add a new image resource separate from the stream, but that would make that one button different and thus it would create problems with consistency, causing upkeep problems later. So I'm wondering if there is any way for me to edit the imagestream. I can access the raw base64 string, but I have no idea where to go from here.

  • Will HttpResponse.Filter buffer the whole data before start the sending?

    - by vtortola
    Hi, An user posts this article about how to use HttpResponse.Filter to compress large amounts of data. But what will happen if I try to transfer a 4G file? will it load the whole file in memory in order to compress it? or otherwise it will compress it chunk by chunk? I mean, I'm doing this right now: public void GetFile(HttpResponse response) { String fileName = "example.iso"; response.ClearHeaders(); response.ClearContent(); response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"; response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + fileName); response.AppendHeader("Content-Length", new FileInfo(fileName).Length.ToString()); using (FileStream fs = new FileStream(Path.Combine(HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~/App_Data"), fileName), FileMode.Open)) using (DeflateStream ds = new DeflateStream(fs,CompressionMode.Compress)) { Byte[] buffer = new Byte[4096]; Int32 readed = 0; while ((readed = ds.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length)) > 0) { response.OutputStream.Write(buffer, 0, readed); response.Flush(); } } } So at the same time I'm reading, I'm compressing and sending it. Then I wanna know if HttpResponse do the same thing, or otherwise it will load the whole file in memory in order to compress it. Cheers.

  • Problems compiling peazip on OSX

    - by Yansky
    I'm having some problems with compiling Peazip on OSX (10.6). I emailed the Peazip developer and he said he probably couldn't help me too much as the error seems to be OSX specific and he doesn't have access to an OSX machine any more. The compiler I'm using is Lazarus as the source is in Pascal. The actual compile process seems to go ok, but when I run the peazip.app program launcher, I get the following error: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/thegooddale/Screen-shot-2010-05-22-at-71907-PM.png Here is the app launcher that the compile made: http://forboden.com/coding/peazip.app.zip - you can use an unzip program to look at the files inside (i.e. unzip it twice). I also tried just running the peazip unix file executable that was produced after the compile from the terminal and I got this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/thegooddale/Screen-shot-2010-05-22-at-72148-PM.png Here are the messages from the compile log from Lazarus while compiling Peazip: http://pastebin.com/qK4bdncL (I asked on the Lazarus forums and they said I can just ignore those "ld: warning: unknown stabs type" warnings). Here is the info from the project_peach.compiled file: <?xml version="1.0"?> <CONFIG> <Compiler Value="/usr/local/bin/ppc386" Date="1238949773"/> <Params Value=" -MObjFPC -Sgi -O1 -gl -k-framework -kCarbon -k-framework -kOpenGL -k'-dylib_file' -k'/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGL.dylib:/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGL.dylib' -WG -vewnhi -l -Fu/Users/yansky/Desktop/peazip-3.1.src/res/themes/crystalc/ -Fu/Developer/lazarus/components/synedit/units/i386-darwin/ -Fu/Developer/lazarus/ideintf/units/i386-darwin/ -Fu/Developer/lazarus/lcl/units/i386-darwin/ -Fu/Developer/lazarus/lcl/units/i386-darwin/carbon/ -Fu/Developer/lazarus/packager/units/i386-darwin/ -Fu/Users/yansky/Desktop/peazip-3.1.src/ -Fu. -opeazip -dLCL -dLCLcarbon project_peach.lpr"/> </CONFIG> I guess there's little chance that anyone here has experience with Pascal and Lazarus since it's not that popular a language and the compiler is still in beta, but I thought I would post here in the hopes that someone might point me in the right general direction about where/how the peazip.app launcher is breaking.

  • Sending compressed data via socket

    - by Pizza
    Hi, I have to make a log server in java, and one task is to send the data compressed. Now I am sending it line by line in plain text, but I must compress it. The server handle "HTTP like" request. For example, I can get a log sending "GET xxx.log". This will entablish a TCP connection to the server, the server response with a header and the log, and close the connection. The client, reads line by line and analyzes each LOG entry. I tried some ways without success. My main problem is that I don't know where each line ends(in the client size). Any idea?

  • OutOfMemory exception when loading an image in .Net

    - by Ben
    Hi, Im loading an image from a SQL CE db and then trying to load that into a PictureBox. I am saving the image like this: if (ofd.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) { picArtwork.ImageLocation = ofd.FileName; using (System.IO.FileStream fs = new System.IO.FileStream(ofd.FileName, System.IO.FileMode.Open)) { byte[] imageAsBytes = new byte[fs.Length]; fs.Read(imageAsBytes, 0, imageAsBytes.Length); thisItem.Artwork = imageAsBytes; fs.Close(); } } and then saving to the Db using LINQ To SQL. I load the image back like so: using (FileStream fs = new FileStream(@"C:\Temp\img.jpg", FileMode.CreateNew ,FileAccess.Write )) { byte[] img = (byte[])encoding.GetBytes(ThisFilm.Artwork.ToString()); fs.Write(img, 0, img.Length); } but am getting an OutOfMemoryException. I have read that this is a slight red herring and that there is probably something wrong with the filetype, but i cant figure what. Any ideas? Thanks picArtwork.Image = System.Drawing.Bitmap.FromFile(@"C:\Temp\img.jpg");

  • Canvas rotate from bottom center image angle?

    - by Tom
    How do you rotate an image with the canvas html5 element from the bottom center angle? See http://uptowar.com/test.php for my current code and image: <html> <head> <title>test</title> <script type="text/javascript"> function startup() { var canvas = document.getElementById('canvas'); var ctx = canvas.getContext('2d'); var img = new Image(); img.src = 'player.gif'; img.onload = function() { ctx.translate(185, 185); ctx.rotate(90 * Math.PI / 180); ctx.drawImage(img, 0, 0, 64, 120); } } </script> </head> <body onload='startup();'> <canvas id="canvas" style="position: absolute; left: 300px; top: 300px;" width="800" height="800"></canvas> </body> </html> Unfortunately this seems to rotate it from the top left angle of the image. Any idea? Edit: in the end the object (space ship) has to rotate like a clock pointer, as if it is turning right/left.

  • Compressing a web service response for jQuery

    - by SirDemon
    I'm attempting to gzip a JSON response from an ASMX web service to be consumed on the client-side by jQuery. My web.config already has httpCompression set like so: (I'm using IIS 7) <httpCompression directory="%SystemDrive%\inetpub\temp\IIS Temporary Compressed Files" staticCompressionDisableCpuUsage="90" staticCompressionEnableCpuUsage="60" dynamicCompressionDisableCpuUsage="80" dynamicCompressionEnableCpuUsage="50"> <dynamicTypes> <add mimeType="application/javascript" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="application/x-javascript" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="text/css" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="video/x-flv" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="application/x-shockwave-flash" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="text/javascript" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="text/*" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="application/json; charset=utf-8" enabled="true" /> </dynamicTypes> <staticTypes> <add mimeType="application/javascript" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="application/x-javascript" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="text/css" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="video/x-flv" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="application/x-shockwave-flash" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="text/javascript" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="text/*" enabled="true" /> </staticTypes> <scheme name="gzip" dll="%Windir%\system32\inetsrv\gzip.dll" /> </httpCompression> <urlCompression doDynamicCompression="true" doStaticCompression="true" /> Through fiddler I can see that normal aspx and other compressions work fine. However, the jQuery ajax request and response work as they should, only nothing gets compressed. What am I missing?

  • GZIP Java vs .NET

    - by Jim Jones
    Using the following Java code to compress/decompress bytes[] to/from GZIP. First text bytes to gzip bytes: public static byte[] fromByteToGByte(byte[] bytes) { ByteArrayOutputStream baos = null; try { ByteArrayInputStream bais = new ByteArrayInputStream(bytes); baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); GZIPOutputStream gzos = new GZIPOutputStream(baos); byte[] buffer = new byte[1024]; int len; while((len = bais.read(buffer)) >= 0) { gzos.write(buffer, 0, len); } gzos.close(); baos.close(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return(baos.toByteArray()); } Then the method that goes the other way compressed bytes to uncompressed bytes: public static byte[] fromGByteToByte(byte[] gbytes) { ByteArrayOutputStream baos = null; ByteArrayInputStream bais = new ByteArrayInputStream(gbytes); try { baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); GZIPInputStream gzis = new GZIPInputStream(bais); byte[] bytes = new byte[1024]; int len; while((len = gzis.read(bytes)) > 0) { baos.write(bytes, 0, len); } } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return(baos.toByteArray()); } Think there is any effect since I'm not writing out to a gzip file? Also I noticed that in the standard C# function that BitConverter reads the first four bytes and then the MemoryStream Write function is called with a start point of 4 and a length of input buffer length - 4. So is that effect the validity of the header? Jim

  • Machine Learning Algorithm for Predicting Order of Events?

    - by user213060
    Simple machine learning question. Probably numerous ways to solve this: There is an infinite stream of 4 possible events: 'event_1', 'event_2', 'event_4', 'event_4' The events do not come in in completely random order. We will assume that there are some complex patterns to the order that most events come in, and the rest of the events are just random. We do not know the patterns ahead of time though. After each event is received, I want to predict what the next event will be based on the order that events have come in in the past. The predictor will then be told what the next event actually was: Predictor=new_predictor() prev_event=False while True: event=get_event() if prev_event is not False: Predictor.last_event_was(prev_event) predicted_event=Predictor.predict_next_event(event) The question arises of how long of a history that the predictor should maintain, since maintaining infinite history will not be possible. I'll leave this up to you to answer. The answer can't be infinte though for practicality. So I believe that the predictions will have to be done with some kind of rolling history. Adding a new event and expiring an old event should therefore be rather efficient, and not require rebuilding the entire predictor model, for example. Specific code, instead of research papers, would add for me immense value to your responses. Python or C libraries are nice, but anything will do. Thanks! Update: And what if more than one event can happen simultaneously on each round. Does that change the solution?

  • How to get image's coordinate on JPanel

    - by Jessy
    This question is related to my previous question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2376027/how-to-generate-cartesian-coordinate-x-y-from-gridbaglayout I have successfully get the coordinate of each pictures, however when I checked the coordinate through (System.out.println) and the placement of the images on the screen, it seems to be wrong. e.g. if on the screen it was obvious that the x point of the first picture is on cell 2 which is on coordinate of 20, but the program shows x=1. Here is part of the code: public Grid (){ setPreferredSize(new Dimension(600,600)); .... setLayout(new GridBagLayout()); GridBagConstraints gc = new GridBagConstraints(); gc.weightx = 1d; gc.weighty = 1d; gc.insets = new Insets(0, 0, 0, 0);//top, left, bottom, and right gc.fill = GridBagConstraints.BOTH; JLabel[][] label = new JLabel[ROWS][COLS]; Random rand = new Random(); // fill the panel with labels for (int i=0;i<IMAGES;i++){ ImageIcon icon = createImageIcon("myPics.jpg"); int r, c; do{ //pick random cell which is empty r = (int)Math.floor(Math.random() * ROWS); c = (int)Math.floor(Math.random() * COLS); } while (label[r][c]!=null); //randomly scale the images int x = rand.nextInt(50)+30; int y = rand.nextInt(50)+30; Image image = icon.getImage().getScaledInstance(x,y, Image.SCALE_SMOOTH); icon.setImage(image); JLabel lbl = new JLabel(icon); // Instantiate GUI components gc.gridx = r; gc.gridy = c; add(lbl, gc); //add(component, constraintObj); label[r][c] = lbl; } I checked the coordinate through this code: Component[] components = getComponents(); for (Component component : components) { System.out.println(component.getBounds()); }

  • smart reversing of compressed javascript with obscured variable & function names ?

    - by Jerome WAGNER
    Hello, I want to know if there exists a tool to help in reversing a compressed javascript that has obscure variable names. I am not looking for a pretty-printing beautifier, but for a tool that actually know a to change & propagate variable name choices. Let me be more specific : - some of the functions belong to the 'public' API and i want to impose readable argument names in their prototypes - there are intermediary variables for document, window and other browser idioms I would like to give this knowledge to the tool and then let it create another javascript where the knowledge would have been correctly propagated. thanks Jerome Wagner

  • Multiple Headers in asp.net

    I'm running code that seems to hit the "AppendHeader" twice in the code. Response.Filter = New DeflateStream(Response.Filter, CompressionMode.Compress, True) Response.AppendHeader("Content-encoding", "deflate") ... Response.AppendHeader("Content-encoding", "deflate") I have tried using the following.... Response.Headers("Content-encoding") = "deflate" But it says This operation requires IIS integrated pipeline mode. How do I check for a headers existence, and overwrite it rather than appending it.

  • Using both chunked transfer encoding and gzip

    - by RadiantHeart
    I recently started using gzip on my site and it worked like charm on all browsers except Opera which gives an error saying it could not decompress the content due to damaged data. From what I can gather from testing and googling it might be a problem with using both gzip and chunked transfer encoding. The fact that there is no error when requesting small files like css-files also points in that direction. Is this a known issue or is there something else that I havent thought about? Someone also mentioned that it could have something to do with sending a Content-Length header. Here is a simplified version of the most relevant part of my code: $contents = ob_get_contents(); ob_end_clean(); header('Content-Encoding: '.$encoding); print("\x1f\x8b\x08\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00"); $size = strlen($contents); $contents = gzcompress($contents, 9); $contents = substr($contents, 0, $size); print($contents); exit();

  • Asynchronous Image loading in certain custom UITableViewCells

    - by Dan
    So, I'm sure that this issue has been brought up before, but I haven't quite seen a solution for my specific problem. What I'm doing is loading a group of custom UITableViewCell's that are drawn using Loren Brichter's solution, each cell has some content, an icon (representing the user) that is asynchronously loaded into it, and a few other things. Eventually, I'm hoping to add support for images. Not every cell has an image, so in the creation of the cell, it determines if an image is required to be loaded and drawn into the cell. My problem is that I don't know how I can do that while keeping the image loaded asynchronously - with not every cell having the need to load an image (like needed with the icon) I'm not sure how to keep it in order when an cell is thrown off screen and re-rendered when the user scrolls over it. Each cell draws it content from an NSArray containing a custom object called FeedItem. All I'm really looking for is some sort of solution or idea to help me because right now I am at a loss. Thanks guys, I will appreciate the help.

  • Exclude debug javascript code during minification

    - by Tauren
    I looking into different ways to minify my javascript code including the regular JSMin, Packer, and YUI solutions. I'm really interested in the new Google Closure Compiler, as it looks exceptionally powerful. I noticed that Dean Edwards packer has a feature to exclude lines of code that start with three semicolons. This is handy to exclude debug code. For instance: ;;; console.log("Starting process"); I'm spending some time cleaning up my codebase and would like to add hints like this to easily exclude debug code. In preparation for this, I'd like to figure out if this is the best solution, or if there are other techniques. Because I haven't chosen how to minify yet, I'd like to clean the code in a way that is compatible with whatever minifier I end up going with. So my questions are these: Is using the semicolons a standard technique, or are there other ways to do it? Is Packer the only solution that provides this feature? Can the other solutions be adapted to work this way as well, or do they have alternative ways of accomplishing this? I will probably start using Closure Compiler eventually. Is there anything I should do now that would prepare for it?

  • Adding a dynamic image to UITable View Cell

    - by Graeme
    Hi, I have a table in which I want a dynamic image to load in at the left-hand side. The table needs to use an IF statement to select the appropriate image from the "Resources" folder, and needs to be based upon [dog types]. The [dog types] is extracted from an RSS feed, and so the image in the table cell needs to match the each cell's [dog types] tag. Update: See code below for what I'm looking to do (only below it's for earthquakes, for me its pictures of dogs). I suspect I need to use - (UIImage *)imageForTypes:(NSString *)types { to do such a thing. Thanks. Updated code: This is for Apple's Earthquake sample but does exactly what I need to do. It matches images to the severity (2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 etc.) of every earthquake to the magnitude. - (UIImage *)imageForMagnitude:(CGFloat)magnitude { if (magnitude >= 5.0) { return [UIImage imageNamed:@"5.0.png"]; } if (magnitude >= 4.0) { return [UIImage imageNamed:@"4.0.png"]; } if (magnitude >= 3.0) { return [UIImage imageNamed:@"3.0.png"]; } if (magnitude >= 2.0) { return [UIImage imageNamed:@"2.0.png"]; } return nil; } and under - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath magnitudeImage.image = [self imageForMagnitude:earthquake.magnitude];

  • Best Way to automatically compress and minimize JavaScript files in an ASP.NET MVC app

    - by wgpubs
    So I have an ASP.NET MVC app that references a number of javascript files in various places (in the site master and additional references in several views as well). I'd like to know if there is an automated way, and if so what is the recommended approach, for compressing and minimizing such references into a single .js file where possible.
