  • Are there any free hit counters that don't track users?

    Are there any free services that increment a simple hit counter without tracking the users of the site? I would like to know how many visitors there are to my site, excluding bots. I don't need detailed information like unique visitors or where the user is from (in fact, that's exactly what I don't want). I have been researching free hit counters, and it seems that most (all?) of them display advertisements and their terms of service indicate that they can use the data they collect from the client site however they want. Google Analytics also does this and tracks users across sites. The site is static HTML, so an external link or iframe of some sort is easiest for me to implement. I could switch to a Ruby or Node.js back-end, in which case lots of other options open up (like Ruby impressionist and more low-level implementations), but my hosting service is pretty limited. If the answer to my question is simply "no," what are my other options?

    What is the correct way to implement hit or touch detection for non-rectangular sprites in Cocos2d? I am working on a jigsaw puzzle, so our sprites have some strange forms (jigsaw puzzle bricks).   • Detect Installed Application URI Handler on Webkit browsers

    Guys, I have a question mainly related to the Iphone web browser but I am hoping the same solution would work on other browsers that are webkit based. I have a application (Iphone + Android) that registers a handler for custom URI (appuri://) on the Phone. I am able to launch the application by making a link to "appuri://act/launch" from my web pages. This works only if my application is installed on the device. If the device does not have the app installed then a message comes up "Safari was not able to open ....". What I want to do is detect if the URI Scheme is supported from the browser and then prompt my own message saying "please download the app ..blah blah blah" if the handler for the URI scheme is not found. Is there a way I can detect or find the list of URL Scheme handlers on the Phone from the Web Browser ?

    I have a parent and a child process written in C language. Somewhere in the parent process HUP signal is sent to the child. I want my parent process to detect if the child is dead. But when I send SIGHUP, the child process becomes a zombie. How can I detect if the child is a zombie in the parent process? I try the code below, but it doesn't return me the desired result since the child process is still there but it is defunct. kill(childPID, 0); One more question; can I kill the zombie child without killing the parent?     Is there a way to detect if a httphandler has started transmitting? I'm trying to do large dynamic Excel Exports (in html table format). I can do this, but there's a long delay from the httphandler getting the message and starting the download. I have turned off the output buffer, so the delay seems to be waiting for the SQL server to dump the data into the sqldataset. Anyways, I'd like to send the user to a new page, have the page display a message, and automatically close once the httphandler has started sending the file. Is there a way to detect if the first file headers have been sent? Many thanks in advance!

    These permalinks above are rerouted to my page: page.php?permalink=events/foo page.php?permalink=events/foo/ page.php?permalink=ru/events/foo page.php?permalink=ru/events/foo/ The events is dynamic, it could be specials or packages. My dilemma is basically; I need to detect an empty link in order so I can feed a robots no index meta tag in the case of: page.php?permalink=events page.php?permalink=events/ page.php?permalink=ru/events/ page.php?permalink=ru/events I can't use a simple pattern such as [a-zA-Z]+\/?(.+)/ since it won't work on the i18n permalinks. What regex could I use which would detect this, using $_GET['permalink'] as the reference to the permalinks? And avoid false positives? Update: Empty link means there's no fragment after the "events/" part. These are empty: page.php?permalink=events page.php?permalink=events/ page.php?permalink=ru/events/ page.php?permalink=ru/events

    I am trying to determine if a qualification exists on http://www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk in the form: http://www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk/qualification/50084811.seo.aspx 50084811 being a qualification aim entered by the end user. If they enter an invalid one e.g. http://www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk/qualification/50084911.seo.aspx They are redirected to an error page (with incorrect http headers as far as I can see). Is there a way to detect the redirect in C#. I would hope to be able to detect the redirect in http headers (thinking it will issue 2) or similar as oppose to having to download the whole page. This could be happening a lot so I would like to minimize traffic.

    Hi, our webapp collects huge amount of data about user actions, network business, database load, etc etc etc All data is stored in warehouses and we have quite a lot of interesting views on this data. if something odd happens chances are, it shows up somewhere in the data. However, to manually detect if something out of the ordinary is going on, one has to continually look through this data, and look for oddities. My question: what is the best way to detect changes in dynamic data which can be seen as 'out of the ordinary'. Are bayesan filters (I've seen these mentioned when reading about spam detection) the way to go? Any pointers would be great! EDIT: To clarify the data for example shows a daily curve of database load. This curve typically looks similar to the curve from yesterday In time this curve might change slowly. It would be nice that if the curve from day to day changes say within some perimeters, a warning could go off. R

    I am testing my application (Windows 7, WinForms, Infragistics controls, C#, .Net 3.5). I have two monitors and my application saves and restores forms' position on the first or second monitors. So I physically switched off second monitor and disabled it at Screen Resolution on the windows display settings form. I need to know it is possible for my application to restore windows positions (for those windows that were saved on the second monitor) to the first one. I switched off second monitor and press Detect to apply hardware changes. Then Windows switched OFF the first monitor for a few seconds to apply new settings. When the first monitor screen came back, my application became unresponsive. My application was launched in debug mode, so I tried to navigate via stack and threads (Visual Studio 2008), paused application, started and did not find any thing that help me to understand why my application is not responsive. Could somebody help my how to detect the source of issue.

I am very confused because my areas are triangles and not squares and I can't find a solution to detect which of the triangle was touched... I get the touched Point with method touchesBegan, and there I'm stuck... :( How to define triangle shapes and test if it was touched? with View? layer?     I have a UITableView backed by an NSFetchedResultsController which may trigger updates at any time. If the user is currently reordering rows, applying these updates will cause an exception because the table view has temporarily taken over and you get an error like Invalid update: invalid number of rows in section [...] How can I detect when the user has started moving a cell so I can delay updates caused by the fetched results controller? There don't seem to be any table view delegate methods to detect this. This delegate method: - (NSIndexPath *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView targetIndexPathForMoveFromRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)sourceIndexPath toProposedIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)proposedDestinationIndexPath { Doesn't get called when the user initially detaches the first cell, only when they actually move it somewhere else.

    User starts up a silverlight application in their browser by navigating to a given URL. User then opens another browser and starts up the same silverlight application by navigating to the same URL. Can the second instance of the application detect that there is already an instance running on the same computer? Can it detect itself if both applications are running within the same browser instance? I would expect the answer to be 'no' but thought that i would ask it anyway. Otherwise i believe that i will have to setup a webservice and have each instance register itself and send requests to other instances from the same IP. does that sound reasonable?

    Hi, I am trying to detect the numbers written on a grid and then process them using the iPhone camera. What i have found till yet are some good examples like: http://blog.damiles.com/?p=93 http://cmgresearch.blogspot.com/2010/01/augmented-reality-on-iphone-how-to_01.html Although I am able to draw the numbers on the overlay view to a good extent but still not able to detect what these numbers are. What I don't wanna do is to go through the whole AI process: training the system, providing the system whole set of values and then process them, because this is so much troublesome for me as well for the performance of my application. I'm using this regular expression for detect if an url ends with a jpg : var exp = /(\b(https?|ftp|file):\/\/[-A-Z0-9+&@#\/%?=~_|!:,.;]*[-A-Z0-9+&@#\/%=~_|]*^\.jpg)/ig; it detects the url : e.g. http://www.blabla.com/sdsd.jpg but now i want to detect that the url doesn't ends with an jpg extension, i try with this : var exp = /(\b(https?|ftp|file):\/\/[-A-Z0-9+&@#\/%?=~_|!:,.;]*[-A-Z0-9+&@#\/%=~_|]*[^\.jpg]\b)/ig; but only get http://www.blabla.com/sdsd then i used this : var exp = /(\b(https?|ftp|file):\/\/[-A-Z0-9+&@#\/%?=~_|!:,.;]*[-A-Z0-9+&@#\/%=~_|]*[^\.jpg]$)/ig; it works if the url is alone, but dont work if the text is e.g. : http://www.blabla.com/sdsd.jpg text
