• Anti-depressant and programming

  I wanted to ask your opinion on anti-depressants, since I took them daily for 3 years now, but I can't be sure if I'm less perfomant with them or without, since I never withdrawed. I'm still at school at the age of 25, still having some motivation problems (for example I can't get used to do something at school if I don't think it will teach me something), but I'm quite motivated to work in the video-game field, since I have some personnal projects in mind. I know C++ programming etc, I'm still learning techniques, but do you think I should try more to do my project instead of just following the work I'm assigned to ? Have you had experience with depression or anti-depressants ? How did it affect your work ? Do you think that being depressed or half-depressed can improve creativity ?

• Good site building for little kids [closed]

  I am teaching kids to write 3d games with Unity. Now I want to publish their games online along with some other stuff. I don't want to teach them HTML, CSS etc.. I don't mind buying the domain (after a bad experience with "TK" domains I concluded buying one is better), so all I need it hosting and possibly with a builder with a nice interface. Couldn't find one which seems to be the right fit. Can you recommend of anyone? Static HTML hosting will do, but I prefer PHP support and DB just in case we will need to implement a login mechanism.

• How to handle situation of programmer stealing credit for your project [on hold]

  There is a coworker who has stolen credit for my work. I created a system that will show live statuses of printing machines throughout the plant. There was one glitch in it so the coworker made an improvement and then re-wrote the entire system (copying 90% of my code, yet he added a new piece of hardware then took over the project). Now he asks me programming questions from time to time. I don't mind teaching coworkers how to program, but since he has stolen my ideas and credit in the past I am reluctant to teach him all I know. Today he asks me for a particularly challenging algorithm for this system. His code now looks exactly like the way I would program! How would you handle the situation? How can I decline helping him without appearing to not being a team player?

  I may slowly be getting into teaching an Object-Orientated Programming class at my school in a year or two. I just graduated and work at my school as an Application Programmer. I'd first start off as a TA/grader and then slowly move into the Professor role. The class would be in Java. I always see resources on this fine site about HOW to program, but does anyone know any tips/tricks/resources on how to TEACH a programming class? It would be full of all different skills levels(but still semi-technical) so it would have to be a little more understandable than if it was just CS kids.

• Microsoft Silverlight 4 Data and Services Cookbook

  Alas I find my self doing another book review... its not clear to me that I should continue to do that but on this particular book it heads in the right direction. As noted in an earlier post I find the idea of a cook book to be of particular interest and useful in my work with Silverlight. This book has gotten closer then any other to date in building the ideal Silverlight book. Albeit the book does make an attempt to teach Silverlight to some degree but it tends to be more of a reference book,...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • how to merge stripped symbols with binary?

  I compiled the Qt Framework with debugging enabled, but the script stripped the debugging symbols from the libraries and saved them as *.debug files -- just like here. Sadly I need these symbols inside the .so files, so I can continue working with them. There seems no way to teach my debugger to load external (non-PDB) symbols. So another way of solving my problem might be converting the .debug files to PDB format, which might also be a problem. Thank you very much!

  Hi, As I mentioned in my yesterday's post, I'm trying to teach myself templates from the book: Templates: The Complete Guide. And although I'm finding this book very nicely presented and material there is explained really well there are no exercises attached after each chapter to test your knowlege, like it is in The C++ Language by B.S for example and had done all exercises from "The C++" I really feel benefit from doing them.
