  • Using fonts that aren't on iPhone

    - by 4thSpace
I'd like to use some fonts that aren't part of the iPhone OS. I've seen games that use non standard fonts. I can install the fonts, create images for each one in Photoshop and then use those images in the iPhone app. However, I don't think that is a practical way to go. If the color or tint needs to be adjusted (because of background) or size, I'll have to redesign every font I'm using. Is there a better way to do this? I read this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/360751/can-i-embed-a-custom-font-in-an-iphone-application and downloaded the open source font label app. However, it crashes most of the time when I try using particular fonts. In regards to the last comment about using UIFont with the fontWithName:size, that certainly doesn't work. Your font variable will be nil. Listing all available fonts reveals why - none of the custom fonts are in the list. I've also read http://stackoverflow.com/questions/566054/how-do-i-include-a-font-with-my-iphone-application, which definitely does not work. Same as last comment in above link.

  • How can I programmatically position a view using relative points?

    - by Steve Madsen
What is the best way to position a view relative to the size of its superview, when the bounds of the superview are not yet known? I am trying to avoid hard-coding coordinates if it is at all possible. Perhaps this is silly, and if so, that's a perfectly acceptable answer. I've run into this many times when working with custom UI. The most recent example is that I'm trying to replace the UINavigationItem plain-text title with a custom view. I want that view to fill the superview, but in addition, I want a UIActivityIndicatorView on the right side, inset about 2 pixels and centered vertically. Here's the code: - (void) viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; customTitleView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero]; customTitleView.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth; titleLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero]; titleLabel.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth; titleLabel.lineBreakMode = UILineBreakModeWordWrap; titleLabel.numberOfLines = 2; titleLabel.minimumFontSize = 11.0; titleLabel.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:17.0]; titleLabel.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth = YES; [customTitleView addSubview:titleLabel]; spinnerView = [[UIActivityIndicatorView alloc] initWithActivityIndicatorStyle:UIActivityIndicatorViewStyleWhite]; spinnerView.center = CGPointMake(customTitleView.bounds.size.width - (spinnerView.bounds.size.width / 2) - 2, customTitleView.bounds.size.height / 2); spinnerView.hidesWhenStopped = YES; [customTitleView addSubview:spinnerView]; self.navigationItem.titleView = customTitleView; [customTitleView release]; } Here's my problem: at the time that this code runs, customTitleView.bounds is still zeroes. The auto-resizing mask hasn't had a chance to do its thing yet, but I very much want those values so that I can compute the relative positions of other sub-views (here, the activity indicator). Is this possible without being ugly?

  • [CA_COLOR_OPAQUE] things that make a layer non-opaque. scaled CAGradientLayer?

    - by mahal tertin
i spent some time with the environment variable CA_COLOR_OPAQUE = 1 and have my findings to share. things that make a CALayer non-opaque (slow, more memory, ...): * contents with alpha (like an NSImage with an icon) * NSImage/CGImage from a pdf as contents (even when the pdf does not contain any alpha and opaque=YES) * backgroundColor = nil * CATextLayer with text in a (because it is contents with alpha) * rounded corners? maybe/sometimes * masksToBounds? not necessarily as we scale most of tree with CATransform3DScale on sublayerTransform i found also these rather irritating non-opaque: * CAGradientLayer that is somewhere down in this scaled tree (even when set all the gradient colors without alpha) * edgeAntialiasingMask != 0 of a layer that is somewhere down in this scaled tree the last two do not make sense to me. why should it be non opaque? what do i see? if anyone has any thoughts on these findings, i'm happy to learn as i couldn't find such a list yet.

  • Code Interaction with Quartz Composition

    - by Alberto MQO
Hi, i have a Quartz Composition with a Cube, and X/Y/Z rotation inputs are published. On Interface Builder i made a QCView and a QCPatchController with the previous Quartz Composition loaded. In QCView the Patch Controller is binded, and the rotation published ports are binded too to three NSSlider, so when i change the value of the NSSlider's then the cube rotates. All this works fine, but i want to change the rotation values of the cube from the App Delegate on XCode. I tried to change the value of the NSSliders with IBoulets pointing to them, but this change doesnt apply to the cube, like it does when i change the Sliders directly with my mouse. What should i instanciate and/or how to access and change this Input_Ports.value throught the CQPatchController? Thank you very much for reading, i really need help!

  • How to cancel a touch sequence

    - by Alex
I have an UIImage view that responds to touch events. I want to cancel the touch sequence if the touch goes outside of certain bounds. How can I do that? I know that I can inspect the coordinates of the touch object, what I don't know is how to cancel the sequence. I don't see any event in the API that allows for that.

  • Cell Dequeue problem when table inside another table's cell content view

    - by Shailesh Kanzariya
I am using two table views (Main Table and Sub Table), one table inside other's cell. I am adding Sub Table in Main Table's cell content view. I am also using different Cell Identifier for both table cells. Now, issue is : When - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath is called, very first time cell of Main Table is generated and when I scroll up/down they all are just dequeued, so it is expected and standard behavior and working fine. But, cell of Sub Table is getting created/allocated every time. It is not dequeued as it should be. I guess, its happening because Sub Table is part of Main Table's Cell Content view. But not sure and don't know how to resolve it. Can somebody help me to find the solution?

  • Specific Strings And NSScanner

    - by Garry
I need to determine whether a string (sourceString) contains another string (queryString) and if it does, at what offset. I'm guessing that NSScanner might do the trick but I don't fully understand the documentation. Let's say sourceString = @"What's the weather in London today?" If I set queryString to equal @"What's the weather", I'd like a method that would determine that, in this case, YES (sourceString does contain queryString) and the offset is 0 (i.e. at the start of sourceString). Any suggestions?

  • Is it possible to create a UINavigationController within a ModalPopup?

    - by aloo
Hi I have a modalViewController that I am popping up using [self presentModalViewController:myController animated:YES]; I have an event occurring within myController which I would like to result in another controller being pushed onto the navigation stack ON TOP OF myController (which again has been presented modally). How can I do this? I have tried the following from within myController: UINavigationController* navController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:self]; NewController* n = [[NewController alloc] init]; [navController pushViewController:n animated:YES]; [n release]; This does not work however....

  • OSX launchctl programmatically as root

    - by Lukas1
I'm trying to start samba service using launchctl from OSX app as root, but I get error status -60031. I can run without problems the command in Terminal: sudo launchctl load -F /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.AppleFileServer.plist` In the objective-c code, I'm using (I know it's deprecated, but that really shouldn't be the issue here) AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges method. Here's the code: NSString *command = @"launchctl"; // Conversion of NSArray args to char** args here (not relevant part of the code) OSStatus authStatus = AuthorizationCreate(NULL, kAuthorizationEmptyEnvironment, kAuthorizationFlagDefaults, &_authRef); if (authStatus != errAuthorizationSuccess) { NSLog(@"Failed to create application authorization: %d", (int)authStatus); return; } FILE* pipe = NULL; AuthorizationFlags flags = kAuthorizationFlagDefaults; AuthorizationItem right = {kAuthorizationRightExecute, 0, NULL, 0}; AuthorizationRights rights = {1, &right}; // Call AuthorizationCopyRights to determine or extend the allowable rights. OSStatus stat = AuthorizationCopyRights(_authRef, &rights, NULL, flags, NULL); if (stat != errAuthorizationSuccess) { NSLog(@"Copy Rights Unsuccessful: %d", (int)stat); return; } OSStatus status = AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges(_authRef, command.UTF8String, flags, args, &pipe); if (status != errAuthorizationSuccess) { NSLog(@"Error executing command %@ with status %d", command, status); } else { // some other stuff } I have also tried using different flags then kAuthorizationFlagDefaults, but that led to either the same problem or error code -60011 - invalid flags. What am I doing wrong here, please?

  • Modal View Does Not Appear in Center in Horizontal Orientation

    - by Sheehan Alam
I have a UIPresentationFormSheet (contains a textview) that appears in the center of the screen when I am in vertical orientation. When I dismiss the modal view, it disappears fine. When I am in horizontal orientation my modal view does not appear in the center of the screen. I have to dismiss my keyboard for the modal view to appear in the center. [self presentModalViewController:composeTweetController animated:TRUE]; When I dismiss the modal view in horizontal orientation the app automatically switches to vertical orientation. -(void)dismissComposeTweetView{ [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:TRUE]; } I want the following to happen: Modal view should appear in the center in horizontal orientation Modal view should disappear without switching to vertical orientation

  • Are @property's necessary for Interface Builder?

    - by Rits
In my UIViewController subclass, I have 3 UIView's with each a @property as an IBOutlet. I do not use these properties at all in my code. The views get instantiated as soon as the view controller is created and they are deallocated when the view controller is deallocated. I was thinking; can't I just remove the @property's? I did, and I could still connect my instance variables (with IBOutlet) in Interface Builder. So my question now is; is there any use for properties in combination with Interface Builder, or is it OK to leave them out? Is it required for some memory management or something? Or are they really just for use in your own code? And if I do leave them out, do I still need to release them in dealloc?

  • Retrieving a unique result set with Core Data

    - by randombits
I have a core data based app that manages a bunch of entities. I'm looking to be able to do the following. I have an entity "SomeEntity" with the attributes: name, type, rank, foo1, foo2. Now, SomeEntity has several rows if when we're speaking strictly in SQL terms. What I'm trying to accomplish is to retrieve only available types, even though each instance can have duplicate types. I also need them returned in order according to rank. So in SQL, what I'm looking for is the following: SELECT DISTINCT(type) ORDER BY rank ASC Here is the code I have so far that's breaking: NSError *error = NULL; NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [fetchRequest setReturnsDistinctResults:YES]; [fetchRequest setPropertiesToFetch:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"type", @"rank", nil]]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"SomeEntity" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [fetchRequest setEntity:entity]; // sort by rank NSSortDescriptor *rankDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"rank" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:rankDescriptor, nil]; [fetchRequest setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; [sortDescriptors release]; [rankDescriptor release]; NSArray *fetchResults = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:fetchRequest error:&error]; [fetchRequest release]; return fetchResults; Right now that is crashing with the following: Invalid keypath section passed to setPropertiesToFetch:

  • Error : Number of Rows In Section in UITableView in iPhone SDK

    - by Meghan
I am getting this error while I am trying to load the data into my table view. Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Invalid update: invalid number of rows in section 0. The number of rows contained in an existing section after the update (73) must be equal to the number of rows contained in that section before the update (71), plus or minus the number of rows inserted or deleted from that section (3 inserted, 0 deleted). What could be wrong? Thanks EDIT : I am initializing the array on ViewWillAppear and adding new objects to the same array on Tableview's didSelectRowAtIndexPath method Here is the code On viewWillAppear : cellTextArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [cellTextArray addObjectsFromArray:newPosts]; Here is the code which modifies the array on didSelectRowAtIndexPath : [cellTextArray addObjectsFromArray:newPosts]; NSMutableArray *insertIndexPaths = [NSMutableArray array]; for (NSUInteger item = count; item < count + newCount; item++) { [insertIndexPaths addObject:[NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:item inSection:0]]; } [self.table beginUpdates]; [self.table insertRowsAtIndexPaths:insertIndexPaths withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; [self.table endUpdates]; [self.table scrollToRowAtIndexPath:indexPath atScrollPosition:UITableViewScrollPositionNone animated:YES]; NSIndexPath *selected = [self.table indexPathForSelectedRow]; if (selected) { [self.table deselectRowAtIndexPath:selected animated:YES]; } Here newPosts is an array which has the values that are added to cellTextArray on didSelectRowAtIndexPath method and viewWillAppear method.

  • How can we detect a touch of a sprite?

    - by srikanth rongali
I have two sprites in my app. Both should have touches enabled and both touches are independent of one another. And if I touch the screen (not on sprites) it should have different touches. My problem is all three sprite1, sprite2, remaining screen should have independent touches. But my program is taking all the touches as same. How can I make them as what I needed ? Thank You.
