  • Apache Redirect from https to https

    - by Nikolaos Kakouros
I am trying to redirect without a rewrite rule from eg https://www.domain.com to https://www.domain.net . I have a wildcard certificate for *.domain.net . This yields the following warning in my error_log [warn] RSA server certificate wildcard CommonName (CN) `*.domain.net' does NOT match server name!? This makes sense and I understand why the warning. I would like to ask if there is a way to use the Redirect directive to accomplish the above without the warnings. Here is my virtual hosts in ssl.conf: <VirtualHost *:443> SSLEngine on ServerName www.domain.net DocumentRoot /var/www/html/domain SSLOptions -FakeBasicAuth -ExportCertData +StrictRequire +OptRenegotiate -StdEnvVars SSLStrictSNIVHostCheck off </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:443> SSLEngine on ServerName www.domain.com ServerAlias www.domain.info Redirect permanent / https://www.domain.net </VirtualHost> Also, if there is a solution, can it be used for redirection from htps://domain.com to htps://www.domain.com? Thanks a lot!

  • Can you specify git-shell in .ssh/authorized_keys to restrict access to only git commands via ssh?

    - by Matt Connolly
I'd like to be able to use a ssh key for authentication, but still restrict the commands that can be executed over the ssh tunnel. With Subversion, I've achieved this by using a .ssh/authorized_keys file like: command="/usr/local/bin/svnserve -t --tunnel-user matt -r /path/to/repository",no-port-forwarding,no-agent-forwarding,no-X11-forwarding,no-pty ssh-rsa AAAAB3NzaC1yc2EAAAABIetc... I've tried this with "/usr/bin/git-shell" in the command, but I just get the funky old fatal: What do you think I am? A shell? error message.

  • Is there a way to install i386 packages w/ it's i386 dependencies?

    - by foh1981
    I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit and I wish to install the CAD application DraftSight, which as of now only come in a 32-bit .deb file. I have installed this with some success before, but since 11.10 supports multiarch I would like to install the i386 versions of DraftSights dependencies. Ubuntu Software Center cannot handle the file, nor gdebi-gtk ('wrong architecture'). I can use dpkg with --force-architecture but there's A LOT of dependencies which I need to manually install afterward. Is there a way to automatically install these? Or semi-automatically with a script of some sort? (I'm thinking something along the lines of extracting the dependencies and adding :i386 and then feed that to apt-get or something...) Below is the output of dpkg-deb --info of the package in question. Package: dassault-systemes-draftsight Version: 2011.7.1198 Section: applications Priority: extra Architecture: i386 Pre-Depends: libexpat1 (>=2.0.1-4), libglib2.0-0 (>=2.22.3-0), libpcre3 (>=7.8-3), libselinux1 (>=2.0.85-2), zlib1g (>=1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-13), libc6 (>=2.10.1-0), libx11-6 (>=2:1.2.2-1), libxau6 (>=1:1.0.4-2), libxcomposite1 (>=1:0.4.0-4), libxcursor1 (>=1:1.1.9-1build1), libxdamage1 (>=1:1.1.1-4), libxdmcp6 (>=1:1.0.2-3), libxext6 (>=2:1.0.99.1-0), libxfixes3 (>=1:4.0.3-2build1), libxi6 (>=2:1.2.1-2), libxinerama1 (>=2:1.0.3-2), libxrandr2 (>=2:1.3.0-2), libxrender1 (>=1:0.9.4-2), libatk1.0-0 (>=1.28.0-0), libcairo2 (>=1.8.8-2), libdirectfb-extra (>=1.2.7-2), libfontconfig1 (>=2.6.0-1), libfreetype6 (>=2.3.9-5), libgtk2.0-0 (>=2.18.3-1), libpango1.0-0 (>=1.26.0-1), libpixman-1-0 (>=0.14.0-1), libpng12-0 (>=1.2.37-1), libxcb-render-util0 (>=0.3.6-1), libxcb-render0 (>=1.4-1), libxcb1 (>=1.4-1), debconf (>= 1.1) | debconf-2.0 Depends: libcomerr2 (>=1.41.9-1), libdbus-1-3 (>=1.2.16-0), libexpat1 (>=2.0.1-4), libgcc1 (>=1:4.4.1-4), libgcrypt11 (>=1.4.4-2), libglib2.0-0 (>=2.22.3-0), libgpg-error0 (>=1.6-1), libkeyutils1 (>=1.2-10), libpcre3 (>=7.8-3), libuuid1 (>=2.16-1), zlib1g (>=1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-13), libc6 (>=2.10.1-0), libgl1-mesa-glx (>=7.6.0-1), libglu1-mesa (>=7.6.0-1), libice6 (>=2:1.0.5-1), libsm6 (>=2:1.1.0-2), libx11-6 (>=2:1.2.2-1), libxau6 (>=1:1.0.4-2), libxdamage1 (>=1:1.1.1-4), libxdmcp6 (>=1:1.0.2-3), libxext6 (>=2:1.0.99.1-0), libxfixes3 (>=1:4.0.3-2build1), libxrender1 (>=1:0.9.4-2), libxt6 (>=1:1.0.5-3), libxxf86vm1 (>=1:1.0.2-1), libaudio2 (>=1.9.2-1), libavahi-client3 (>=0.6.25-1), libavahi-common3 (>=0.6.25-1), libcups2 (>=1.4.1-5), libdrm2 (>=2.4.14-1), libfontconfig1 (>=2.6.0-1), libgnutls26 (>=2.8.3-2), libgssapi-krb5-2 (>=1.7dfsg~beta3-1), libk5crypto3 (>=1.7dfsg~beta3-1), libkrb5-3 (>=1.7dfsg~beta3-1), libkrb5support0 (>=1.7dfsg~beta3-1), libstdc++6 (>=4.4.1-4), libtasn1-3 (>=2.2-1), libxcb1 (>=1.4-1), sendmail Installed-Size: 284948 Maintainer: Dassault Systemes <[email protected]> Homepage: www.3ds.com Description: With DraftSight, you can easily create professional CAD drawings.   • Setup and configure a MVC4 project for Cloud Service(web role) and SQL Azure

    - by MagnusKarlsson
I aim at keeping this blog post updated and add related posts to it. Since there are a lot of these out there I link to others that has done kind of the same before me, kind of a blog-DRY pattern that I'm aiming for. I also keep all mistakes and misconceptions for others to see. As an example; if I hit a stacktrace I will google it if I don't directly figure out the reason for it. I will then probably take the most plausible result and try it out. If it fails because I misinterpreted the error I will not delete it from the log but keep it for future reference and for others to see. That way people that finds this blog can see multiple solutions for indexed stacktraces and I can better remember how to do stuff. To avoid my errors I recommend you to read through it all before going from start to finish. The steps:Setup project in VS2012. • Dovecot and StartSSL problems with issuer

    - by knoim
I am using dovecot (1) and trying to get my StartSSL certificate running. ssl_key_file points to my private key I tried pointing ssl_cert_file to my public key, with and without using the class1 certificate from http://www.startssl.com/certs/sub.class1.server.ca.pem as ssl_ca_file aswell as combing them with cat publickey sub.class1.server.ca.pem chained My mail client keeps telling me the certificate has no issuer, but doing openssl x509 on my public certificate tells me it is C=IL, O=StartCom Ltd., OU=Secure Digital Certificate Signing, CN=StartCom Class 1 Primary Intermediate Server CA My option for the CSR were: openssl req -new -newkey rsa:4096 -nodes Dovecot's log doesn't mention any problems. EDIT: Doesn't seem to be a problem with dovecot. I am having the same problem with postfix. openssl verify gives me the same error.

  • How to use public-key ssh authentication

    - by Poma
I have 2 ubuntu 12.04 (beta) servers (node1 and node2) and want to establish passwordless root access between them. Other users should not have access to other boxes. Also note that ssh default port is changed to 220. Here's what I did: sudo -i cd /root/.ssh ssh-keygen -t rsa # with default name and empty password cat id_rsa.pub > authorized_keys then copied id_rsa & id_rsa.pub to node2 and added id_rsa.pub to authorized_keys. Both hosts have the same /root/.ssh/config file: Host node1 Hostname 1.2.3.4 Port 220 IdentityFile /root/.ssh/id_rsa Host node2 Hostname 5.6.7.8 Port 220 IdentityFile /root/.ssh/id_rsa Now the problem is that when I type ssh node2 it asks me for password. What may be the problem?

  • Brazil is Hot for Social Media

    - by Mike Stiles
Today’s guest blog is from Oracle SVP Product Development Reggie Bradford, fresh off a visit to Sao Paulo, Brazil where he spoke at the Dachis Social Business Summit and spent some time getting a personal taste for the astonishing growth of social in Brazil, both in terms of usage and engagement. I knew it was big, but I now have an all-new appreciation for why the Wall Street Journal branded Brazil the “social media capital of the universe.” Brazil has the world’s 5th largest economy, an expanding middle class, an active younger demo market, a connected & outgoing culture, and an ongoing embrace of the social media platforms. According to comScore's 2012 Brazil Digital Future in Focus report, 97% are using social media, and that’s not even taking mobile-only users into account. There were 65 million Facebook users in 2012, spending an average 535 minutes there, up 208%. It’s one of Twitter’s fastest growing markets and the 2nd biggest market for YouTube. Instagram usage has grown over 300% since last year. That by itself is exciting, but look at the opportunity for social marketing brands. 74% of Brazilian social users follow brands on Facebook, and 59% have praised a company on either Twitter or Facebook. A 2011 Oh! Panel study found 81% of social networkers there used social to research new products and 75% went there looking for discounts. B2C eCommerce sales in Brazil is projected to hit $26.9 billion by 2015. I bet I’m not the only one who sees great things ahead, and I was fortunate enough give a keynote ABRADI, an association of leading digital agencies in Brazil with 53 execs from 35 agencies attending. I was also afforded the opportunity to give my impressions of what’s going on in Brazil to Jornal Propoganda & Marketing, one of the most popular publications in Latin America for marketers. I conveyed that especially in an environment like Brazil, where social users are so willing to connect and engage brands, marketers need to back away from the heavy-handed, one-way messaging of old school advertising and move toward genuine relationships and trust-building. To aide in this, organizational and operation changes must be embraced inside the enterprise. We've talked often about the new, tighter partnership forming between the CIO and CMO. If this partnership is not encouraged, fostered and resourced, the increasing amount of time consumers spend on mobile and digital, and the efficiencies and integrations offered by cloud-based software cannot be exploited. These are the kinds of changes that can yield social data that, when combined with enterprise data, helps you come to know your social audiences intimately and predict their needs. Consumers are always connected and need your brand to be accessible at any time, be it for information or customer service. And, of course, all of this is happening quite publicly. The holistic, socially-enable enterprise connects social to customer service systems and all other customer touch points, facilitating the kind of immediate, real-time, gratifying response customers are coming to expect. Social users in Brazil are highly active and clearly willing to meet us as brands more than halfway. Empowering yourself with a social management technology platform will have you set up to maximize this booming social market…from listening & monitoring to engagement to analytics to workflow & automation to globalization & language support. Brands, it’s time to be as social as the great people of Brazil are. Obrigado! @reggiebradfordPhoto: Gualberto107, freedigitalphotos.net

  • Web Safe Area (optimal resolution) for web app design?

    - by M.A.X
I'm in the process of designing a new web app and I'm wondering for what 'Web Safe Area' should I optimize the app layout and design. By Web Safe Area I mean the actual area available to display the website in the browser (which is influenced by monitor resolution as well as the space taken up by the browser and OS) I did some investigation and thinking on my own but wanted to share this to see what the general opinion is. Here is what I found: Optimal Display Resolution: w3schools web stats seems to be the most referenced source (however they state that these are results from their site and is biased towards tech savvy users) http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php (aggregate data from something like 15,000 different sites that use their tracking services) StatCounter Global Stats Display Resolution (Stats are based on aggregate data collected by StatCounter on a sample exceeding 15 billion pageviews per month collected from across the StatCounter network of more than 3 million websites) NetMarketShare Screen Resolutions (marketshare.hitslink.com) (a web analytics consulting firm, they get data from browsers of site visitors to their on-demand network of live stats customers. The data is compiled from approximately 160 million visitors per month) Display Resolution Summary: There is a bit of variation between the above sources but in general as of Jan 2011 looks like 1024x768 is about 20%, while ~85% have a higher resolution of at least 1280x768 (1280x800 is the most common of these with 15-20% of total web, depending on the source; 1280x1024 and 1366x768 follow behind with 9-14% of the share). My guess would be that the higher resolution values will be even more common if we filter on North America, and even higher if we filter on N.American corporate users (unfortunately I couldn't find any free geographically filtered statistics). Another point to note is that the 1024x768 desktop user population is likely lower than the aforementioned 20%, seeing as the iPad (1024x768 native display) is likely propping up those number (the app I'm designing is flash based, Apple mobile devices don't support flash so iPad support isn't a concern). My recommendation would be to optimize around the 1280x768 constraint (*note: 1280x768 is actually a relatively rare resolution, but I think it's a valid constraint range considering that 1366x768 is relatively common and 1280 is the most common horizontal resolution). Browser + OS Constraints: To further add to the constraints we have to subtract the space taken up by the browser (assuming IE, which is the most space consuming) and the OS (assuming WinXP-Win7): Win7 has the biggest taskbar footprint at a height of 40px (XP's and Vista's is 30px) The default IE8 view uses up 25px at the bottom of the screen with the status bar and a further 120px at the top of the screen with the windows title bar and the browser UI (assuming the default 'favorites' toolbar is present, it would instead be 91px without the favorites toolbar). Assuming no scrollbar, we also loose a total of 4px horizontally for the window outline. This means that we are left with 583px of vertical space and 1276px of horizontal. In other words, a Web Safe Area of 1276 x 583 Is this a correct line of thinking? I'm really surprised that I couldn't find this type of investigation anywhere on the web. Lots of websites talk about designing for 1024x768, but that's only half the equation! There is no mention of browser/OS influences on the actual area you have to display the site/app. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. EDIT Another caveat to my line of thinking above is that different browsers actually take up different amounts of pixels based on the OS they're running on. For example, under WinXP IE8 takes up 142px on top of the screen (instead the aforementioned 120px for Win7) because the file menu shows up by default on XP while in Win7 the file menu is hidden by default. So it looks like on WinXP + IE8 the Web Safe Area would be a mere 572px (768px-142-30-24=572)

  • SPF record doesn't work (not sure which DNS server to tweak)

    - by Ion
Problem: Google (and perhaps others) marks our emails as SPF neutral. Let me give you some background about the setup: initially got a dedicated server (Hetzner) with Plesk installed to host a domain/web application, let's say: bigjaws.com. Plesk automatically creates a DNS zone for it with some records for the various services it provides out of the box, e.g. webmail.bigjaws.com as a CNAME to bigjaws.com to provide Horde/whatever, etc. Let me point out four relevant of these records (where XXX.XXX.XXX.158 is our dedicated IP): bigjaws.com. A XXX.XXX.XXX.158 mail.bigjaws.com. A XXX.XXX.XXX.158 bigjaws.com MX (10) mail.bigjaws.com. bigjaws.com. TXT v=spf1 +a +mx -all The above records are not(?) valid anymore though, because after using this dedicated server for a while, our site got bigger and bigger so we decided to move our operations over to AWS (EC2, RDS, ELB, etc), but we retained the mail functionality as is, i.e. emails from [email protected] are sent by connecting to our dedicated server where Plesk takes care of things. This was decided in order not to setup anything from scratch. Of course for all DNS-related things we now use Route53. In Route53 I have the following records: mail.schoox.com. A XXX.XXX.XXX.158 bigjaws.com. MX (10) mail.bigjaws.com bigjaws.com. SPF "v=spf1 +ip4:XXX.XXX.XXX.158 +mx ~all" From my understanding of SPF, the SPF status should have been passed: I designate that all email being sent by bigjaws.com from XXX.XXX.XXX.158 are valid/not spam (I added +mx there but I'm not sure if needed). • Missing Fields and Default Values

    - by PointsToShare
© 2011 By: Dov Trietsch. All rights reserved Dealing with Missing Fields and Default Values New fields and new default values are not propagated throughout the list. They only apply to new and updated items and not to items already entered. They are only prospective. We need to be able to deal with this issue. Here is a scenario. The user has an old list with old items and adds a new field. The field is not created for any of the old items. Trying to get its value raises an Argument Exception. Here is another: a default value is added to a field. All the old items, where the field was not assigned a value, do not get the new default value. The two can also happen in tandem – a new field is added with a default. The older items have neither. Even better, if the user changes the default value, the old items still carry the old defaults. Let’s go a bit further. You have already written code for the list, be it an event receiver, a feature receiver, a console app or a command extension, in which you span all the fields and run on selected items – some new (no problem) and some old (problems aplenty). Had you written defensive code, you would be able to handle the situation, including similar changes in the future. So, without further ado, here’s how. Instead of just getting the value of a field in an item – item[field].ToString() – use the function below. I use ItemValue(item, fieldname, “mud in your eye”) and if “mud in your eye” is what I get, I know that the item did not have the field.   /// <summary> /// Return the column value or a default value /// </summary> private static string ItemValue(SPItem item, string column, string defaultValue) {     try     {         return item[column].ToString();     }     catch (NullReferenceException ex)     {         return defaultValue;     }     catch (ArgumentException ex)     {         return defaultValue;     } } I also use a similar function to return the default and a funny default-default to ascertain that the default does not exist. Here it is:  /// <summary> /// return a fields default or the "default" default. /// </summary> public static string GetFieldDefault(SPField fld, string defValue) {     try     {         // -- Check if default exists.         return fld.DefaultValue.ToString();     }     catch (NullReferenceException ex)     {         return defValue;     }     catch (ArgumentException ex)     {         return defValue;     } } How is this defensive? You have trapped an expected error and dealt with it. Therefore the program did not stop cold in its track and the required code ran to its end. Now, take a further step - write to a log (See Logging – a log blog). Read your own log every now and then, and act accordingly. That’s all Folks!

  • Creating self-signed SSL certificate - Access denied?

    - by Shaul
I'm trying to create a Self-Signed Certificate in IIS 7 (Win7 Ultimate x64), and getting the following error: I found this question on SF, which says I should set permissions on the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys folder to allow rights - but that's also not working. Firstly, note that "Everyone" has "Full Control" rights: And when I try to delete and recreate rights, look what comes up: I am logged in as a user with admin privileges, and I've even tried running Explorer with Admin rights... nothing seems to help. What do I do to get this right?

  • Speed up ADF Mobile Deployment to Android with Keystore

    - by Shay Shmeltzer
As you might have noticed from my latest ADF Mobile entries, I'm doing most of my ADF Mobile development on a windows machine and testing on an Android device. Unfortunately the Android/windows experience is not as fast as the iOS/Mac one. However, there is one thing I learned today that can make this a bit less painful in terms of the speed to deploy and test your application - and this is to use the "Release" mode when deploying your application instead of the "Debug" mode. To do this you'll first need to define a keystore, but as Joe from our Mobile team showed me today, this is quite easy. Here are the steps: Open a command line in your JDK bin directory (I just used the JDK that comes with the JDeveloper install). Issue the following command: keytool –genkey –v –keystore <Keystore Name>.keystore –alias <Alias Name> -keyalg RSA –keysize 2048 –validity 10000 Both keystore name and alias names are strings that you decide on. The keytool utility will then prompt you with various questions that you'll need to answer. Once this is done, the next step is to configure your JDeveloper preferences->ADF Mobile to add this keystore there under the release tab:  Then for your application specific deployment profile - switch the build mode from debug to release. The end result is a much smaller mobile application (for example from 60 to 21mb) and a much faster deployment cycle (for me it is about twice as fast as before).

  • Can I automatically add a new host to known_hosts ?

    - by gareth_bowles
Here's my situation; I'm setting up a test harness that will, from a central client, launch a number of virtual machine instances and then execute commands on them via SSH. The virtual machines will have previously unused hostnames and IP addresses, so they won't be in the ~/.ssh/known_hosts file on the central client. The problem I'm having is that the first SSH command run against a new virtual instance always comes up with an interactive prompt: The authenticity of host '[hostname] ([IP address])' can't be established. RSA key fingerprint is [key fingerprint]. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? Is there a way that I can bypass this and get the new host to be already known to the client machine, maybe by using a public key that's already baked into the virtual machine image ? I'd really like to avoid having to use Expect or whatever to answer the interactive prompt if I can.

  • Windows Advanced Firewall certificate based IPSEC

    - by Tim Brigham
I'm working on migrating from using IPSEC settings stored under the 'IP Security Policies on Active Directory' to using the 'Windows Firewall with Advanced Security' for my 2008+ boxes. I have successfully been able to get this set up using Kerberos authentication, however my openswan implementation on my Linux boxes is using certificates. Whenever I try changing the authentication method to computer certificate (using RSA and my root CA) the connection is bombing out. I've made this change at both a connection request policy and on the IPSEC settings on the root Windows Firewall with Advanced Security node. The windows event log shows the authentication request is taking place but failing negotiating a mode. What am I missing here?

  • How can I get ssh-agent working over ssh and in tmux (on OS X)?

    - by Rich
I have a private key set up for my github account, the passphrase to which is, I believe, stored in OS X's keychain. I certainly don't have to type it in when I open a terminal window and enter ssh [email protected]. However, when I'm running bash over an ssh session, or locally inside a tmux session, I have to type in the passphrase every single time I attempt to ssh to github. This question suggests that a similar problem exists with screen, but I don't really understand the issue well enough to fix it in tmux. There's also this page which includes a fairly complicated solution, but for zsh. EDIT: In response to @Mikel's answer, from a local terminal I get the following output: [~] $ echo $SSH_AUTH_SOCK /tmp/launch-S4HBD6/Listeners [~] $ ssh-add -l 2048 [my key fingerprint] /Users/richie/.ssh/id_rsa (RSA) [~] $ typeset -p SSH_AUTH_SOCK declare -x SSH_AUTH_SOCK="/tmp/launch-S4HBD6/Listeners" Whereas over ssh or in tmux I get: [~] $ echo $SSH_AUTH_SOCK [~] $ ssh-add -l Could not open a connection to your authentication agent. [~] $ typeset -p SSH_AUTH_SOCK bash: typeset: SSH_AUTH_SOCK: not found echo $SSH_AGENT_PID returns nothing whatever shell I run it from.

  • How to set up Aptana Studio 3 with a Bitbucket private repo

    - by Titus
I have just started playing around with Git and would like to push a personal project to a newly created, private repo on Bitbucket using Aptana Studio 3. I tried to use the Git integration in Aptana but I couldn't figure out where to enter my username and password for Bitbucket anywhere. I tried using the Team > Share Project context menu but that keeps throwing the following message: Warning: Permanently added the RSA host key for IP address '207.223.240.181' to the list of known hosts. Permission denied (publickey). fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly I'm pretty sure that's because my repo is private. However, I couldn't find a provision to provide any form of credentials for linking to a private repo. Any ideas?

  • Moving abroad - Relocation advice

    - by Tim Koekkoek
Oracle offers graduates from different European countries the opportunity to start their career abroad. Some already have experience with living abroad as they have done an exchange semester or internship in another county, for others it is the first time they will move abroad. Rui started in October 2011 as a Business Development Consultant in Dublin and moved from Portugal to Dublin, Ireland to start his career. For those planning to leave their home country and who desire to work abroad, he will share some tips and tricks in this article. When you’re faced with an opportunity like this, there are lots of things that will come to your mind. Sometimes it can be either very exciting, or even stressful. 1. First of all, try to relax. If you are certain you are moving abroad, all you need to do is some research about the country where you’re going to live, get to know its culture (gastronomy, important dates and events, its economy and effective ways to keep you in touch with your family and friends – such as mobile companies and Internet services), and start to understand the best locations (with good access) you could/should live in are. Don’t forget that initially you can be limited by transport and therefore it is important to explore the ideal places for you. During this time, Oracle provides everything you’ll need (papers, documents, etc.) to cross borders. 2. When you arrive, you understand that you are in a new country, in a new place, where all things (or most) are unknown to you. Before you panic, try to see it as a new challenge where new opportunities will come. Sometimes, it’s not easy I know, but the very best a new place has to give to you, is the opportunity to understand a new culture, get to know other people, other ways of working, and grow both as a person and professionally. So, you have nothing to lose in this kind of experiment. 3. When you arrive at Oracle, there’s a fantastic team that will help you with settling in, HR, Payroll, Relocation, IT. In my case, Oracle helped me with the relocation, they supported me to arrange everything such as helping out with all the paperwork and finding a new apartment. As you can see they will do their best to help you to be successful! 4. Engage with your new co-workers. Going to a place where you don’t know anyone can be tough sometimes but see it as an opportunity to meet people from all over the world and share experiences. Embrace it. 5. Plan ahead, try to get the most information possible and use it. Oracle is a multinational enterprise that will allow you to get to know a new labour market and give you the flexibility you need to understand your view of employment and occupation, giving you the very best opportunities to join different teams and working areas, so that you can work where you fit best. Good luck! If you’re thinking about starting a career abroad, read the following article: http://www.overseasdigest.com/movingtips.htm it can be very useful to you. When the focus is on speed, it can be easy to continue to use old style, point-to-point custom scripts that grow organically to the point where they are unmanageable and too costly to maintain. As data volumes, data sources, and end users grow, uncoordinated data integration efforts create significant inefficiencies for both IT and business users. In addition to losing IT productivity due to maintaining spaghetti architecture, data integrity becomes a concern as well. Errors caused by inconsistent, data and manual data entry can prove very costly for companies and disrupt business activities. Many industry leaders recognize now that data should be moved in an automated and reliable manner across all platforms to have one version of the truth. By simplifying their data integration architecture and standardizing on a centralized approach, IT teams now accelerate time to market. Especially, using a centralized, shared-service approach brings agility, increases IT productivity, and frees up resources for innovation. One such industry leader that simplified its data integration architecture is Sabre Holdings. Sabre Holdings provides distribution and technology solutions for the travel industry, and is a winner of Oracle Excellence Awards for Fusion Middleware in 2011 in the data integration category. I had the pleasure to host Sabre Holdings on a public webcast and discuss their data integration best practices for data warehousing. In this webcast Sabre’s Amjad Saeed, presented how the company reduced complexity by consolidating systems and standardizing development on Oracle Data Integrator and Oracle GoldenGate for its global data warehouse development team. With Oracle’s complete real-time data integration solution, Sabre also streamlined support and maintenance operations, achieved real-time view in the execution of the integration processes, and can manage the data warehouse and business intelligence solution performance on demand. By reducing complexity and leveraging timely market insights, the company was able to decrease time to market by 40%. You can now listen to the webcast on demand: Sabre Holdings Case Study: Accelerating Innovation using Oracle Data Integration I invite you to hear directly from Sabre how to use advanced data integration capabilities to enable accelerated innovation. • Best practice for ONLY allowing MySQL access to a server?

    - by Calvin Froedge
Here's the use case: I have a SaaS system that was built (dev environment) on a single box. I've moved everything to a cloud environment running Ubuntu 10.10. One server runs the application, the other runs the database. The basic idea is that the server that runs the database should only be accessible by the application and the administrator's machine, who both have correct RSA keys. My question: Would it be better practice to use a firewall to block access to ALL ports except MySQL, or skip firewall / iptables and just disable all other services / ports completely? Furthermore, should I run MySQL on a non-standard port? This database will hold quite sensitive information and I want to make sure I'm doing everything possible to properly safeguard it. Thanks in advance. I've been reading here for a while but this is the first question that I've asked. I'll try to answer some as well = )
