  • Partial specialization with reference template parameter fails to compile in VS2005

    - by Blair Holloway
I have code that boils down to the following: template struct Foo {}; template & I struct FooBar {}; //////// template struct Baz {}; template & I struct Baz< FooBar { static void func(FooBar& value); }; //////// struct MyStruct { static const Foo s_floatFoo; }; // Elsewhere: const Foo MyStruct::s_floatFoo; void callBaz() { typedef FooBar FloatFooBar; FloatFooBar myFloatFooBar; Baz::func(myFloatFooBar); } This compiles successfully under GCC, however, under VS2005, I get: error C2039: 'func' : is not a member of 'Baz' with [ T=FloatFooBar ] error C3861: 'func': identifier not found However, if I change const Foo<T>& I to const Foo<T>* I (passing I by pointer rather than by reference), and defining FloatFooBar as: typedef FooBar FloatFooBar; Both GCC and VS2005 are happy. What's going on? Is this some kind of subtle template substitution failure that VS2005 is handling differently to GCC, or a compiler bug? (The strangest thing: I thought I had the above code working in VS2005 earlier this morning. But that was before my morning coffee. I'm now not entirely certain I wasn't under some sort of caffeine-craving-induced delirium...)

  • Dynamically created "CheckBoxList" in placeholder controls throwing null reference exception error d

    - by newName
I have a web form that will dynamically create a number of checkboxlist filled with data based on the number of row in database. Then this is added to a placeholder to be displayed. theres a button when clicked, will add the selected check boxes value into database but right now when the button is clicked and after the postback, the page will show the error "System.NullReferenceException". the following code is written in Page_Load in (!Page.IsNotPostBack) and in a loop that will dynamically create a number of checkboxlist: CheckBoxLis chkContent = new CheckBoxList(); chkContent.ID = chkIDString; //chkIDString is an incremental int based on the row count chkContent.RepeatDirection = RepeatDirection.Horizontal; foreach (List<t> contentList in List<t>) //data retrieved as List<t> using LINQ { ListItem contents = new ListItem(); contents.Text = contentList.Title; contents.Value = contentList.contentID.ToString(); chkContent.Items.Add(contents); } plcSchool.Controls.Add(chkContent); //plcSchool is my placeholder plcSchool.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("<br>")); protected void btnAdd_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { CheckBoxList cbl = Page.FindControl("chkContent4") as CheckBoxList; Response.Write(cbl.SelectedValue.ToString()); // now im just testing to get the value from one of the checkboxlist } Anyone able to help, as it seems the controls are not recreated after the postback, therefore it can't find the control and throwing the null reference exception.

  • WPF designer gives exception when databinding a label to a checkbox

    - by John
I'm sure it's something stupid, but I'm playing around with databinding. I have a checkbox and a label on a form. What I'm trying to do is simply bind the Content of the label to the checkbox's IsChecked value. What I've done runs fine (no compilation errors and acts as expected), but if I touch the label in the XAML, the designer trows an exception: System.NullReferenceException Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at MS.Internal.Designer.PropertyEditing.Editors.MarkupExtensionInlineEditorControl.BuildBindingString(Boolean modeSupported, PropertyEntry propertyEntry) at <Window x:Class="UnitTestHelper.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:FileSysCtls="clr-namespace:WPFFileSystemUserControls;assembly=WPFFileSystemUserControls" xmlns:HelperClasses="clr-namespace:UnitTestHelper" Title="MainWindow" Height="406" Width="531"> <Window.Resources> <HelperClasses:ThreestateToBinary x:Key="CheckConverter" /> </Window.Resources> <Grid Height="367" Width="509"> <CheckBox Content="Step into subfolders" Height="16" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="17,254,0,0" Name="chkSubfolders" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="130" IsThreeState="False" /> <Label Height="28" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="376,254,0,0" Name="lblStepResult" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="120" IsEnabled="True" Content="{Binding IsChecked, ElementName=chkSubfolders, Mode=OneWay, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged, Converter={StaticResource CheckConverter}}" /> </Grid> The ThreeStateToBinary class is as follows: class ThreestateToBinary : IValueConverter { #region IValueConverter Members public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { if ((bool)value) return "Checked"; else return "Not checked"; //throw new NotImplementedException(); } public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { return ((string)value == "Checked"); //throw new NotImplementedException(); } #endregion } Quite honestly, I'm playing around with it at this point. It was originally simpler (not using the ValueConverter) but was displaying similar behavior when I simply had the content set to: Content="{Binding IsChecked, ElementName=chkSubfolders, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}" Any ideas? Thanks, John

  • Soap Negotiation Exception with BasicHttpBinding

    - by kyliod
I have a wcf client/server application that I'm trying to get deployed at a client location. I believe it's a cross-domain issue, as we've deployed it successfully on the same computer. I'm currently using basichttpbinding and a custombinding that just uses Soap1.2: if (!useBasic) { CustomBinding binding = new CustomBinding(); TextMessageEncodingBindingElement encoding = new TextMessageEncodingBindingElement(MessageVersion.Soap12, System.Text.Encoding.UTF8); HttpTransportBindingElement transport = new HttpTransportBindingElement(); transport.MaxReceivedMessageSize = BindingConstants.MaxStringContentLength; binding.Elements.Add(encoding); binding.Elements.Add(transport); return binding; } else { BasicHttpBinding binding = new BasicHttpBinding(); binding.MaxReceivedMessageSize = BindingConstants.MaxStringContentLength; return binding; } However the client tells me that they get an error "SOAP security negotiation with 'XXXXXXXXXXXX' for target 'XXXXXXXXXXX' failed. See inner exception for details." Now I haven't gotten the inner exceptions yet, but everything I research online tells me that BasicHttpBinding should fix this, however they tell me they are using BasicHttpBinding. Is this error possible with BasicHttpBinding like how I have mine set up above? Also, when I check my BasicHttpBinding.Security.Message.ClientCredentialType, it says UserName. Does this even matter if my Security.Mode is "None"? Thanks.

  • XAML Deserialization problem

    - by mrwayne
Hi, I have a block of XAML of which i'm trying to deserialize. For arguments sake lets say it looks like below. <NS:SomeObject> <NS:SomeObject.SomeProperty> <NS:SomeDifferentObject SomeOtherProp="a value"/> </NS:SomeObject.SomeProperty> </NS:SomeObject> Of which i deserialise using the following code. XamlReader.Load( File.OpenRead( @"c:\SomeFile.xaml")) I have 2 solutions, one i use Unit Testing, and another i have for my web application. When i'm using the unit testing solution, it deserializes fine and works as expected. However, when i try to deserialize using my other project i keep getting an exception like the following. 'NameSpace.SomeObject' value cannot be assigned to property 'SomeProperty' of object 'NameSpace.SomeObject'. Object of Type 'NameSpace.SomeObject' cannot be converted to type 'NameSpace.SomeObject'. It's as if it is getting confused or instantiating 2 different types of objects? Note, i do not have similarly named classes or any sort of namespace conflict. The same codes executes fine in one solution and not the other. The same project files are referenced in both. Please help!

  • Hibernate limitations on using variables in queries

    - by sammichy
I had asked the following question I have the following table structure for a table Player Table Player { Long playerID; Long points; Long rank; } Assuming that the playerID and the points have valid values, can I update the rank for all the players based on the number of points in a single query? If two people have the same number of points, they should tie for the rank. And received the answer from Daniel Vassalo (thank you). UPDATE player JOIN (SELECT p.playerID, IF(@lastPoint <> p.points, @curRank := @curRank + 1, @curRank) AS rank, IF(@lastPoint = p.points, @curRank := @curRank + 1, @curRank), @lastPoint := p.points FROM player p JOIN (SELECT @curRank := 0, @lastPoint := 0) r ORDER BY p.points DESC ) ranks ON (ranks.playerID = player.playerID) SET player.rank = ranks.rank; When I try to execute this as a native query in Hibernate, the following exception is thrown. java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: org.hibernate.QueryException: Space is not allowed after parameter prefix ':' Apparently this has been an open issue for the last couple of years, I want to know if the ranking query can be made to work either Without using any variables in the SQL query OR Using any workaround for Hibernate.

  • Average function without overflow exception

    - by Ron Klein
.NET Framework 3.5. I'm trying to calculate the average of some pretty large numbers. For instance: using System; using System.Linq; class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { var items = new long[] { long.MinValue + 100, long.MinValue + 200, long.MinValue + 300 }; try { var avg = items.Average(); Console.WriteLine(avg); } catch (OverflowException ex) { Console.WriteLine("can't calculate that!"); } Console.ReadLine(); } } Obviously, the mathematical result is 9223372036854775607 (long.MaxValue - 200), but I get an exception there. This is because the implementation (on my machine) to the Average extension method, as inspected by .NET Reflector is: public static double Average(this IEnumerable<long> source) { if (source == null) { throw Error.ArgumentNull("source"); } long num = 0L; long num2 = 0L; foreach (long num3 in source) { num += num3; num2 += 1L; } if (num2 <= 0L) { throw Error.NoElements(); } return (((double) num) / ((double) num2)); } I know I can use a BigInt library (yes, I know that it is included in .NET Framework 4.0, but I'm tied to 3.5). But I still wonder if there's a pretty straight forward implementation of calculating the average of integers without an external library. Do you happen to know about such implementation? Thanks!! UPDATE: The previous example, of three large integers, was just an example to illustrate the overflow issue. The question is about calculating an average of any set of numbers which might sum to a large number that exceeds the type's max value. Sorry about this confusion. I also changed the question's title to avoid additional confusion. Thanks all!!

  • How do I reference Django Model from another model

    - by user313943
Im looking to create a view in the admin panel for a test program which logs Books, publishers and authors (as on djangoproject.com) I have the following two models defined. class Author(models.Model): first_name = models.CharField(max_length=30) last_name = models.CharField(max_length=30) email = models.EmailField() def __unicode__(self): return u'%s %s' % (self.first_name, self.last_name) class Book(models.Model): title = models.CharField(max_length=100) authors = models.ManyToManyField(Author) publisher = models.ForeignKey(Publisher) publication_date = models.DateField() def __unicode__(self): return self.title What I want to do, is change the Book model to reference the first_name of any authors and show this using admin.AdminModels. #Here is the admin model I've created. class BookAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): list_display = ('title', 'publisher', 'publication_date') # Author would in here list_filter = ('publication_date',) date_hierarchy = 'publication_date' ordering = ('-publication_date',) fields = ('title', 'authors', 'publisher', 'publication_date') filter_horizontal = ('authors',) raw_id_fields = ('publisher',) As I understand it, you cannot have two ForeignKeys in the same model. Can anyone give me an example of how to do this? I've tried loads of different things and its been driving me mad all day. Im pretty new to Python/Django. Just to be clear - I'd simply like the Author(s) First/Last name to appear alongside the book title and publisher name. Thanks

  • ASP.Net MVC Object Reference in Edit View when using DropDownListFor()

    - by hermiod
This question is related to another I ask recently, it can be found here for some background information. Here is the code in the Edit ActionResult: public virtual ActionResult Edit(int id) { ///Set data for DropDownLists. ViewData["MethodList"] = tr.ListMethods(); ViewData["GenderList"] = tr.ListGenders(); ViewData["FocusAreaList"] = tr.ListFocusAreas(); ViewData["SiteList"] = tr.ListSites(); ViewData["TypeList"] = tr.ListTalkbackTypes(); ViewData["CategoryList"] = tr.ListCategories(); return View(tr.GetTalkback(id)); } I add lists to the ViewData to use in the dropdownlists, these are all IEnumerable and are all returning values. GetTalkback() returns an Entity framework object of type Talkback which is generated from the Talkback table. The DropDownListFor code is: <%: Html.DropDownListFor(model=>model.method_id,new SelectList(ViewData["MethodList"] as IEnumerable<SelectListItem>,"Value","Text",Model.method_id)) %> The record I am viewing has values in all fields. When I click submit on the View, I get an Object reference not set to an instance of an object. error on the above line. There are a number of standard fields in the form prior to this, so the error is only occurring on dropdown lists, and it is occurring on all of them. Any ideas? This is my first foray in to MVC, C#, and Entity so I am completely lost!

  • ASP.NET MVC: null reference exception using HtmlHelper.TextBox and custom model binder

    - by mr.nicksta
I have written a class which implements IModelBinder (see below). This class handles a form which has 3 inputs each representing parts of a date value (day, month, year). I have also written a corresponding HtmlHelper extension method to print out three fields on the form. When the day, month, year inputs are given values which can be parsed, but a seperate value fails validation, all is fine - the fields are repopulated and the page served to the user as expected. however when an invalid values are supplied and a DateTime cannot be parsed, i return an arbitrary DateTime so that the fields will be repopulated when returned to the user. I read up on similar problems people have had and they all seemed to be due to lack of calling SetModelValue(). I wasn't doing this, but even after adding the problem has not been resolved. public object BindModel(ControllerContext controllerContext, ModelBindingContext bindingContext) { string modelName = bindingContext.ModelName; string monthKey = modelName + ".Month"; string dayKey = modelName + ".Day"; string yearKey = modelName + ".Year"; //get values submitted on form string year = bindingContext.ValueProvider[yearKey].AttemptedValue; string month = bindingContext.ValueProvider[monthKey].AttemptedValue; string day = bindingContext.ValueProvider[dayKey].AttemptedValue; DateTime parsedDate; if (DateTime.TryParse(string.Format(DateFormat, year, month, day), out parsedDate)) return parsedDate; //could not parse date time report error, return current date bindingContext.ModelState.AddModelError(yearKey, ValidationErrorMessages.DateInvalid); //added this after reading similar problems, does not fix! bindingContext.ModelState.SetModelValue(modelName, bindingContext.ValueProvider[modelName]); return DateTime.Today; } the null reference exception is thrown when i attempt to create a textbox for the Year property of the date, but strangely not for Day or Month! Can anyone offer an explanation as to why this is? Thanks :-)

  • Invalid security validation exception inside a SharePoint workflow

    - by Dan Revell
I'm having a strange security problem with a SharePoint workflow. Particular calls seem to result in the following exception: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: The security validation for this page is invalid. I've come across this error before and the simple fix is web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true; ... web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = false; However I've never once encountered this problem inside a workflow before since a workflow runs as system. I first got this error in a code activity where I set the value of a column on the list item. Wrapping the item.Update in AllowUnsafeUpdates fixed it. After the code activity I have a CreateTask activity. This also causes the same error but only after running the code inside the activity's MethodInvoking. In both cases there's a SPListItem.UpdateItem involved within the stack trace. This call is failing a security check. I don't know anything about how this check works so I don't know where to look next. This is a strange one, because this SharePoint dev machine has been working fine for some time. No other projects or workflows exhibit this behaviour so that rules out an installation problem. There's just something about this particular workflow. [UPDATE] I've gotten around the issue by just creating a new project and building it up again. I still have the broken one and I'd still like to figure out the problem with it. I'd appreciate any suggestions of what it might be.

This could be due to the fact that the server certificate is not configured properly with HTTP.SYS in the HTTPS case. This could also be caus ed by a mismatch of the security binding between the client and the server. this is the server code : Uri address = new Uri("https://localhost:8000/ExchangeService"); WSHttpBinding binding = new WSHttpBinding(); //Set Binding Params binding.Security.Mode = SecurityMode.Transport; binding.Security.Transport.ClientCredentialType = HttpClientCredentialType.None; binding.Security.Transport.ProxyCredentialType = HttpProxyCredentialType.None; Type contract = typeof(ExchangeService.ServiceContract.ITradeService); ServiceHost host = new ServiceHost(typeof(TradeService)); host.AddServiceEndpoint(contract, binding, address); host.Open(); this is the client configuration (app.config): </client> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="TradeWsHttpBinding"> <security mode="Transport"> <transport clientCredentialType="None" proxyCredentialType ="None"/> </security> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> the security configuration at both the client and the server are the same , and i dont need certificate for the server in that kind of security (transport) so why do i get this exception ???? thanks...

The actual method signature is private PgasePdfTable getMonthData(int month, int year, Collection dayTypes, Collection calendarDays, HashMap bcSpecialDays, Collection activityPeriods, Locale locale, MessageResources resources) throws Exception { I already tried looking to it with javap and that gives the method signature as it should be. When my other colleagues check out the code, compile it and deploy it, they have the same problem. When the build server picks up the code and deploys it on development or testing environments (HPUX), the same error occurs. Also an automated testing machine running ubuntu shows the same error during server startup. The rest of the application runs ok, only that one servlet is out of order. Any ideas where to look would be helpful.

  • Exception in setDrawingCache in Android 1.5?

    - by sunil
Hi, I am developing an application where I am using setDrawingCache and then once I get the Bitmap I destroy the cache by using destroyDrawingCache(). The application has been developed with Android SDK 1.6. When testing the application in emulator with Android 1.5 the application throws NullPointerException when try to manipulate the Bitmap returned by getDrawingCache(). It probably gives error since getDrawingCache returns null. The interesting thing in this is that the NullPointerException comes only after I run the application twice or thrice. It means I am able to get the Bitmap for two times and then it throws this exception. The error that I am getting is as below java.lang.NullPointerException E/AndroidRuntime( 1036): at com.babbleville.HomeScreenActivity.resizeBitmap(HomeScreenActivity.java: 394) E/AndroidRuntime( 1036): at com.babbleville.HomeScreenActivity.access $0(HomeScreenActivity.java:392) E/AndroidRuntime( 1036): at com.babbleville.HomeScreenActivity $1.handleMessage(HomeScreenActivity.java:327) E/AndroidRuntime( 1036): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) E/AndroidRuntime( 1036): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) E/AndroidRuntime( 1036): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:3948) E/AndroidRuntime( 1036): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) E/AndroidRuntime( 1036): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) E/AndroidRuntime( 1036): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit $MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:782) E/AndroidRuntime( 1036): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:540) E/AndroidRuntime( 1036): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) Can someone please let me know the problem? • python-social-auth AuthCanceled exception

    - by vero4ka
I'm using python-social-auth in my Django application for authentication via Facebook. But when a user tries to login and when it's been refirected to Facebook app page clicks on "Cancel" button, appears the following exception: ERROR 2014-01-03 15:32:15,308 base :: Internal Server Error: /complete/facebook/ Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/vera/virtualenv/myapp/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/django/core/handlers/base.py", line 114, in get_response response = wrapped_callback(request, *callback_args, **callback_kwargs) File "/home/vera/virtualenv/myapp/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/django/views/decorators/csrf.py", line 57, in wrapped_view return view_func(*args, **kwargs) File "/home/vera/virtualenv/myapp/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/social/apps/django_app/utils.py", line 45, in wrapper return func(request, backend, *args, **kwargs) File "/home/vera/virtualenv/myapp/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/social/apps/django_app/views.py", line 21, in complete redirect_name=REDIRECT_FIELD_NAME, *args, **kwargs) File "/home/vera/virtualenv/myapp/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/social/actions.py", line 54, in do_complete *args, **kwargs) File "/home/vera/virtualenv/myapp/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/social/strategies/base.py", line 62, in complete return self.backend.auth_complete(*args, **kwargs) File "/home/vera/virtualenv/myapp/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/social/backends/facebook.py", line 63, in auth_complete self.process_error(self.data) File "/home/vera/virtualenv/myapp/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/social/backends/facebook.py", line 56, in process_error super(FacebookOAuth2, self).process_error(data) File "/home/vera/virtualenv/myapp/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/social/backends/oauth.py", line 312, in process_error raise AuthCanceled(self, data.get('error_description', '')) AuthCanceled: Authentication process canceled Is the any way to catch it Django?

  • SSL certificate exception problem in Firefox

    - by Baztoune
Hi there, and thanks in advance for your help or any tip that could get me out of here. I work on a JEE app with a JBoss server and an Apache. I'm not really familiar with SSL connections and certificates, I understand the basic, but I have to deal with it. So on my local configuration (localhost) I have my connection certificate configured on JBoss and Apache, and a USER_DEV.P12 file, which I import in my certificates in Firefox. I have the same configuration on a distant test server (test-server), and a USER_TEST.P12 which I also import in Firefox. When I access https://localhost/ or https://test-server/ Firefox asks me to add an exception, which is normal. After that, I select the appropriated user certificate, and can use my application normally. But for the second (let's say https://test-server/), Firefox rises me a sec_error_reused_issuer_and_serial error. Of course I googled it and founded the Mozilla help, So when I delete the "server" in my certificate manager, I can access again my second domain, but the same problem occurs for the first one. To shorten the problem, my 2 client/server certificate couples are OK but I can't have 2 certificate exceptions at the same time in Firefox for my 2 different servers/users, even though the names, server address, and MD5 are different. I notified the serial is the same (01), but it's working on my colleague's computer. So am I doing something wrong? Do I have to deal with it manually each time (or with Firefox profiles)? Thanks for your help. Bastien.

  • Reference a Map by name within Velocity Template

    - by Wiretap
Pretty sure there is an easy answer to this, but just can't find the right VTL syntax. In my context I'm passing a Map which contains other Maps. I'd like to reference these inner maps by name and assign them within my template. The inner maps are constructed by different parts of the app, and then added to the context by way of example public static void main( String[] args ) throws Exception { VelocityEngine ve = new VelocityEngine(); ve.init(); Template t = ve.getTemplate( "test.vm" ); VelocityContext context = new VelocityContext(); Map<String,Map<String,String>> messageData = new HashMap<String, Map<String,String>>(); Map<String,String> data_map = new HashMap<String,String>(); data_map.put("data_1","1234"); data_map.put("a_date", "31-Dec-2009"); messageData.put("inner_map", data_map); context.put("msgData", messageData); StringWriter writer = new StringWriter(); t.merge( context, writer ); System.out.println( writer.toString() ); } Template - test.vm #set ($in_map = $msgData.get($inner_map) ) data: $in_map.data_1 $in_map.a_date

  • Microsoft Word Macro - Exporting Word Review Comments - How do you reference the sentence related to

    - by jspeaks
I am trying to export of a Word document review comments. I want to export the sentence selection that was commented on followed by the comment. Screen shot of the image: http://jspeaks.com/mswordcomment.png I have found code to loop through the document comments, but I cannot figure out how to reference the sentence selection that the comment was related to. The current logic is: Sub ExportComments() Dim s As String Dim cmt As Word.Comment Dim doc As Word.Document For Each cmt In ActiveDocument.Comments s = s & cmt.Initial & cmt.Index & "," & cmt.Range.Text & vbCr Next Set doc = Documents.Add doc.Range.Text = s End Sub I tinkered with Selection.Range, however I cannot determine the proper object or property that contains the referenced sentence. I would like to produce output like the follow (if we use the example in picture above): Sentence: Here are more sentences that contain interesting facts - Comment: This is an interesting fact. Sentence: Here are more sentences that contain interesting facts. Here are more sentences that contain interesting facts. - Comment: This is a very interesting fact

  • Passing a LINQ DataRow Reference in a GridView's ItemTemplate

    - by Bob Kaufman
    Given the following GridView: <asp:GridView runat="server" ID="GridView1" AutoGenerateColumns="false" DataKeyNames="UniqueID" OnSelectedIndexChanging="GridView1_SelectedIndexChanging" > <Columns> <asp:BoundField HeaderText="Remarks" DataField="Remarks" /> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Listing"> <ItemTemplate> <%# ShowListingTitle( ( ( System.Data.DataRowView ) ( Container.DataItem ) ).Row ) %> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:BoundField HeaderText="Amount" DataField="Amount" DataFormatString="{0:C}" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> which refers to the following code-behind method: protected String ShowListingTitle( DataRow row ) { Listing listing = ( Listing ) row; return NicelyFormattedString( listing.field1, listing.field2, ... ); } The cast from DataRow to Listing is failing (cannot convert from DataRow to Listing) I'm certain the problem lies in what I'm passing from within the ItemTemplate, which is simply not the right reference to the current record from the LINQ to SQL data set that I've created, which looks like this: private void PopulateGrid() { using ( MyDataContext context = new MyDataContext() ) { IQueryable < Listing > listings = from l in context.Listings where l.AccountID == myAccountID select l; GridView1.DataSource = listings; GridView1.DataBind(); } }
