    I have a really weird error, and I don't know what is causing this.   • java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: recv failed; Causes and cures?

    Hi, all. I've got an application running on Apache Tomcat 5.5 on a Win2k3 VM. The application serves up XML to be consumed by some telephony appliances as part of our IVR infrastructure. The application, in turn, receives its information from a handful of SOAP services. This morning, the SOAP services were timing out intermittently, causing all sorts of Exceptions. Once these stopped, I noticed that our application was still performing very slowly, in that it took it a long time to render and deliver pages. This sluggishness was noticed both on the appliances that consume the Tomcat output, and from a simple test of requesting some static documents from my web browser. Restarting Tomcat immediately resolved the issue. Cracking open the localhost log, I see a ton of these errors, right up until I restarted Tomcat: WARNING: Exception thrown whilst processing POSTed parameters java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: recv failed After a big of Googling, my working theory is that the SOAP issue caused my users to get errors, which caused them to make more requests, which put an increased load on the application. This caused it to run out of available sockets to handle incoming requests. So, here's my quandary: 1. Is this a valid hypothesis, or am I just in over my head with HTTP and Tomcat? 2. If this is a valid hypothesis, is there a way to increase the size of the "socket queue", so that this doesn't happen in the future? Thanks! IVR Avenger

I'm trying to get the entities using the following linq: ObjectQuery<Location> locations = context.Location; ObjectQuery<ProductPrice> productPrice = context.ProductPrice; ObjectQuery<Product> products = context.Product; IQueryable<ProductPrice> res1 = from pp in productPrice join loc in locations on pp.Location equals loc join prod in products on pp.Product equals prod where prod.Title.ToLower().IndexOf(Word.ToLower()) > -1 select pp; This query returns 2 records, ProductPrice objects that have linked object Location and Product but they are null and I cannot understand why.   • NHibernate + Remoting = ReflectionPermission Exception

    Hi all, We are dealing with a problem when using NHibernate with Remoting in a machine with full trust enviroment (actually that's our dev machine). The problem happens when whe try to send as a parameter an object previously retrieved from the server, that contains a NHibernate Proxy in one of the properties (a lazy one). As we are in the dev machine, there's no restriction in the trust level of the web app (it's set to Full) and, as a plus, we've configured NHibernate's and Castle's assemblies to full trust in CAS (even thinking that it'd not be necessary as the remoting app in IIS has the full trust level). Does anyone have any idea of what can be causing this exception? Stack trace below. This will give us the simple implementation of search request, like "show me all items in group 1". We will have a deal only with CatalogModel.catalog_root_group The problem is - this association does't work. I always get "catalog_root_group" equals to nil Also, i have tried to overcome the using of reference to root group ("catalog_root_group"), but i cannot construct appropriate search request in ruby ...     Requirement is to create a reusable multi-select combobox custom control. To accomplish this, I am creating the DataTemplate dynamically through code and set the combobox ItemTemplate.     I believe this question applies equally well to C# as to Java, because both require that {c,C}ompareTo be consistent with {e,E}quals: Suppose I want my equals() method to be the same as a reference check, i.e.: public bool equals(Object o) { return this == o; } In that case, how do I implement compareTo(Object o) (or its generic equivalent)? Part of it is easy, but I'm not sure about the other part: public int compareTo(Object o) { if (! (o instanceof MyClass)) return false; MyClass other = (MyClass)o; if (this == other) { return 0; } else { int c = foo.CompareTo(other.foo) if (c == 0) { // what here? } else { return c; } } } I can't just blindly return 1 or -1, because the solution should adhere to the normal requirements of compareTo. I can check all the instance fields, but if they are all equal, I'd still like compareTo to return a value other than 0. It should be true that a.compareTo(b) == -(b.compareTo(a)), and the ordering should stay consistent as long as the objects' state doesn't change. I don't care about ordering across invocations of the virtual machine, however. This makes me think that I could use something like memory address, if I could get at it. Then again, maybe that won't work, because the Garbage Collector could decide to move my objects around. hashCode is another idea, but I'd like something that will be always unique, not just mostly unique. Any ideas?

    Good day. I'm using Doctrine as ORM for my Zend Framework project. This is the first time I use it. I've followed the ZendCasts Doctrine chapters, and everything works for me, but I needed to perform some profiling; There is a Doctrine_Connection_Profiler class that should be used to profile the Doctrine Model internal queries, but I've tried to use it without success. I always get a "PDOException: You cannot serialize or unserialize PDOStatement instances" exception when I perform my Unit Tests. Here is a example: $conn = Doctrine_Manager::connection($doctrineConfig['dsn'], $dbconfname); ... if( APPLICATION_ENV != 'production'){ $obj_doctrine_profiler = new Doctrine_Connection_Profiler(); $conn->setListener($obj_doctrine_profiler); } All of my Unit Tests works if I comment/delete the $conn->setListener($obj_doctrine_profiler); line. This code block is located in my Bootstrap.php class; the weird thing is, the web application works just fine even with the mentioned code line.   • FLEX: the custom component is still a Null Object when I invoke its method

    Hi, I've created a custom component in Flex, and I've created it from the main application with actionscript. Successively I invoke its "setName" method to pass a String. I get the following run-time error (occurring only if I use the setName method): TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. I guess I get it because I'm calling to newUser.setName method from main application before the component is completely created. How can I ask actionscript to "wait" until when the component is created to call the method ? Should I create an event listener in the main application waiting for it ? I would prefer to avoid it if possible.   • Unable to find reference to std library math function inside library

    Hello, I've got several programs that use shared libraries. Those shared libraries in turn use various standard C libraries. ie Program A and Program B both use Shared Library S. Shared Library S uses std C math. I want to be able to statically link Shared Library S against the standard library, and then statically link Programs A and B against S so that I don't have to be dragging around the library files, because these programs are going to be running on an embedded system running BusyBox 0.61. However, when I try to statically link the programs against Shared Library S, I get an error message from GCC stating : ../lib/libgainscalecalc.a(gainscalecalc.): In function 'float2gs': [path to my C file].c:73: undefined reference to 'log' Can somebody please help me out ?     I have created a static library to house some of my code like categories. I have a category for UIViews in "UIView-Extensions.h" named Extensions. In this category I have a method called: - (void)fadeOutWithDelay:(CGFloat)delay duration:(CGFloat)duration; Calling this method works fine on the simulator on Debug configuration. However, if try to run the app on the device I get a NSInvalidArgumentException: [UIView fadeOutWithDelay:duration:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1912b0 *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[UIView fadeOutWithDelay:duration:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1912b0 It seems for some reason UIView-Extensions.h is not being included in the device builds. What I have checked/tried I did try to include another category for NSString, and had the same issue. Other files, like whole classes and functions work fine. It is an issue that only happens with categories. I did a clean all targets, which did not fix the problem. I checked the static library project, the categories are included in the target's "copy headers" and "compile sources" groups. The static library is included in the main projects "link binary with library" group. Another project I have added the static library to works just fine.
