• Couchdb failing test suite on Linux

  Hi I've been trying to install CouchDB on my webfusion virtual server. I followed the latest instructions from the webfusion forum (see: http://forum.webfaction.com/viewtopic.php?id=2355 ) and it runs (just) Futon is very sluggish and I get 502 errors. Anyway when I run the test suite it fails on multiple tests. Webfaction support have been great but don't have erlang experience to interpret the error logs. Can anyone help me know what might be wrong? Test suite result: basics, all_docs, attachments, attachments_multipart, attachment_names, compact, config, conflicts, delayed_commits, design_docs, design_options all the errors are: Exception raised: {"error":"unknown","reason":"\u000d\u000a502 Bad Gateway\u000d\u000a\u000d\u000a<\h1502 Bad Gateway\u000d\u000a nginx\u000d\u000a\u000d\u000a\u000d\u000a"} except for 'compact; which also has: Assertion failed: xhr.responseText == "This is a base64 encoded text" Assertion failed: xhr.getResponseHeader("Content-Type") == "text/plain" I'm stumped. • Passwordless ssh on multiple machines

  Hi all, I'm quite confused with all the ssh security stuff. I am trying to reconfigure a system that is currently broken for reasons unknown. Machine A is your personal computer that you use whenever you're at home. Machine B is the head node of an HPC cluster and all the other machines C are all identically configured machines which share the home directories of machine B. This is an HPC cluster if you haven't guessed. How would I configure passwordless ssh between any nodes B or C. A can only get to C through sshing into B

• Windows 7 Account Settings Vanished

  So I came home and stumbled upon a bit of a mystery. When I got home my brother was using my desktop PC that was running Windows 7 (I have accounts for my 2 brothers and my mom on the machine, but mine is the only admin account). After he finished his game he logged out and I logged in to my account, but found only strangeness. My windows account seems to have been somewhat "reset", meaning: my quick launch shortcuts were gone my dropbox account did not automatically login my pidgin accounts were no longer there I had to relogin Steam iTunes could not launch (I had hooked up my iDevice before logging in) The Documents/Pictures/Music shortcuts in the start menu no longer work However, despite that: my desktop wallpaper was still correct my documents folder was still there in c:\Users\my account name\My Documents as expected Google Chrome settings seem to have been retained other accounts on the same machine seem to be fine I asked my brother if he had installed anything strange during the day, he only installed Yahoo Messenger. I last used the machine around 24 hours ago and it was fine then. I'm not sure what else has been affected. I'm inclined to just create a new admin user for me to use, but I'd like to have some idea of what actually happened.

• not able to open files in windows partition from linux on a dual boot system

  I have installed dual boot on my laptop, windows XP && Fedora linux. For some unknown reason windows XP is not booting up. Through fedora I'm able to see the windows XP partition and files in it. But the problem here is, I'm not able to open those files from linux. Does anybody hit this kind of issue, if so and incase you figured out the soluton, can you please share the solution? • How to restrict all services to single domain in Ubuntu?

  Someone has pointed an unknown domain to my server's IP address likely via A records. I would like to reject access to ALL services (httpd, ssh, mail, etc.) from this domain and only allow requests from my domain. I want to make it so when I connect to that domain it's completely rejected from my server. I can disallow access from HTTP by changing my web server settings, but I want to do this for every single type of connection. How can I do this?

I wonder to solve this problem without SET UNTIL SEQUENCE 9 THREAD 1; maybe I should unregister this archive log from control file(I am using control file not catalog) Can you tell me how?

• Shockwave not responding in Google Chrome

  When browsing in Google chrome, I get an error message The exception unknown software exception (0x40000015) occurred in the application at location 0x0025bf18. I get a pop-up message later saying that the shockwave plugin is not responding. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Chrome (even by clearing my browsing data while uninstalling) and still the error persists. There are 2 instances of shockwave that I could see in my chrome by typing chrome://plugins. I've tried disabling either of those alternatively too. This prevents me from browsing a lot of sites including FB and Stackoverflow through my favorite browser. I dont have any problem when I work from Internet Explorer. Please help!

• Why am I having trouble viewing HTTPS websites only using Chrome only on my employer's network?

  I'm using Google Chrome on my new MacBook Pro that has been provided to me by my employer. Many of the HTTPS sites I visit do not work when I visit them using Google Crome while I am connected to my employer's network. Example: www.facebook.com These same sites work perfectly fine if I use a different browser (like Safari) or even with Chrome when my Macbook is connected to my home WiFi network. Chrome reports the error: "The certificate was signed by an unknown authority". See attached screenshots. How can I resolve this problem? I really want to use Chrome. But not having access to numerous important work and outside websites is unacceptable.

• iSCSI drives suddenly inaccessible or corrupted

  I have two NAS (Seagate Black Armors) connected to our network through iSCSI to a Dell Optiplex 760 running 32-bit Windows 7 and Windows iSCSI Initiator. For some unknown reason within the last week both are reportedly inaccessible and/or corrupt (that is the error message generated when I attempt to open the on the iSCSI computer). However, connecting to either of them via direct IP goes off without a hitch. I've tried Error checking but received "The disk check could not be performed because Windows could not access the disk." I've tried System Recover to a date almost two weeks back thinking Windows update may have caused the issue but there is no change. Anyone have an explanation and/or a solution to get them reconnected? Thanks.

• Does "I securely erased my drive" really work with Truecrypt partitions?

  When you look at Truecrypt's Plausible Deniability page it says that one of the reasons for partition with solely random data is that you securely erased your drive. But what about the partition table with full disk encryption? How can you explain why the partition table says there's a partition of unknown type (With my limited knowledge of partition tables I think that they store all the partition filesystem types) and with solely random data? It seems that if your going to securely erase the drive you would destroy everything, including the partition table. And even if you just wiped the partition, the partition table would still say that the partition was originally NTFS, which it isn't anymore. Does the "I securely erased my drive" excuse still work here? (Note: I know that there's hidden truecrypt volumes, but I'm avoiding them due to the high risk of data loss)

• Windows 7 - all usb devices go to sleep im idle mode

  A strange thing happened after a few updates to the system: Intel rapid storage SSD firmware update Intel Ethernet adapter update GPU Intel update When the computer turns off the screen (after 5 min), an unknown time later, all the USB devices stop working. Sound card Mouse Keybord etc. I can't turn them back on, so I can't wake up the screen or do anything except turn the computer off and back on. I checked my power save profile and all is OK there. I changed in the Device Manager, the Allow USB to sleep in all the hubs. How can I fix this??

  My laptop (windows 8.1) has a big partition so i would like to spit it into two smaller partitions. I tried hirens boot and jumped into gparted (something i have never used before) I resized windows partition (c:) and created a new partition, reboot, and my laptop cant boot I am seeing in gparted - sda1 ntfs recovery 300MB - sda2 fat32 100MB - sda3 unknown 128MB msftres - sda4 is my original C partition - sda5 is the new partition I tried with Windows 8 DVD there are options to automatically fix but it did not work. I also tried with make PC fresh or something like that and windows told me it cant fix because the drive is locked. Any help would be greatly appreciate. I stop playing with the tool now.   In the past I've been using putty to ssh into my schools fedora computers to do HW, but now I recently put fedora on my computer, and I want make it so that I can ssh to my fedora computer from my school too. I looked through a tutorial, and was able to -make the private key and public key -make a passphrase -move to public key to my school's system -chmod 700 the public key now when I try to ssh into my own computer from school it gives me an error that says I cannot resolve my hostname and name or service unknown I don't know what to do from here, the tutorial was no help after this.

• How to prevent Windows 8 of erasing GRUB?

  I'm doing dualboot with Ubuntu and Windows 8 on my DELL Laptop. EFI is enabled, secure boot is not. My partitions are GPT. Everything seems to work for some time. After some normal use, GRUB stops working. The "ubuntu" EFI entry is still there on top of everything else. But the computer boots directly into the Windows Bootloader, skipping GRUB. Any clues on why is that happening or how can I prevent that? My current partiton setup is: - /dev/sda1 NTFS Windows recovery - /dev/sda2 FAT32 UEFI boot (with boot flag) - /dev/sda3 unknown (msftres flag) - /dev/sda4 NTFS Windows Drive C - /dev/sda5 ext4 /home - /dev/sda6 ext4 / I usually reinstall GRUB through chrooting from a Live Session and doing a apt-get install --reinstall grub-efi-amd64.

• Default program not choosing on Windows 7

  this is my first time posting and i need some help. I have a file named .kv6 format. I used slab6 (the correct and only program) to edit this file. I had it chosen as default program to open it upon double click. But today it stopped using that and reset to an unknown file. So I tried to set it again and when I hit "Browse" and select slab6 again it acts like it chooses it but doesn't actually show up as the default program or Other Programs. I can choose whatever other program and it will show up as a new Default Program but won't work to open it =\ Any help you be appreciated, thanks.

• Network randomly drops

  I have a VPS, ubuntu server 12.04 and for unknown reasons the network connection drops and I have to access my vps via the console and ifdown eth0 and ifup eth0. This brings the connection back up from about a few seconds to a few hours. I have run tail -F /var/log/syslog to monitor the log to see what happens at the point of drop and there is nothing unusual. The vps is running under virt-manager and the hardware is set to virtio. I have had linux friends look at my vps and they are unsure of what is the cause.

  Topology: Client ----- Intermediate Device ----- Server Client: win7 Intermediate Device: unknown Server: CentOS 5.8 The problem occurs when the client and server are trying to establish a SSL connection. It happens to one specific port, 2000. I haven't been able to replicate the problem with other port numbers. I captured packets on both client and server. After the TCP handshake, from the client's perspective, it's not receiving ACKs for its previously sent packets so it kept re-sending them. On the server side, however, it did receive those packets and sent ACK packets. The weird thing is, after the server sent those ACKs, it received a [RST, ACK] packet, from the intermediate device, for every packet it sent. What could be the cause?

• some HTTPS sites getting blocked on one machine in network

  I have a few computers connected to the internet via a router. I have been having some trouble with this one Windows 7 desktop. I can browse most of the sites without any trouble but some sites where the sign in page switches to a secure connection (https), the page does not load. It's not all of the sites though. I'm able to sign into gmail and a few other services that I know use https . The sites I'm having trouble with; yahoo's sign in page and the one that I have been using to test across different systems, http://iforgot.apple.com (which switchs to https) ;this particular site, i can access from other computers on the network and my phone. I only have windows firewall running and AVG. I even tried to stopping windows firewall but it did not help. Everything was fine last week. All I have installed in the past week is VOIP softwares namely skype, ooVoo and windows live messenger. I'm not sure how to find out what's being blocked and why and how to unblock it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

• iTunes Update 11.0 will not install on my Macbook

  I try to update my iTunes to version 11 but every time I open iTunes after the restart it shows me an error message that states, "An Unknown Error Occurred (-42408)". The same thing happens when I try to install it using the stand alone installer from the apple website. iTunes still opens but remains as version 10.7 (21) and dosent update. I have tried this numerous times and I keep getting the same results. I have also looked all over online but none of them give me a solution that works. • Time Machine/iMac loses all trace of external hard drive after a few days

  Hey guys, First time posting, also a Mac newbie (recent windows convert) so I'm hoping I can get some help here :) I have a Hitachi Deskstar drive in an external casing that I got from ebuyer. (its one of those unknown fairly cheapish enclosures) connected via firewire. I hook it up and it works fine, but then at some point over the next week or so I'll realise that my last update was 3 days ago or so. At this point the Mac will not recognise the drive as existing and the only thing to do is switch off and on the external enclosure. It then works fine for a while. If I had to guess I'm assuming its powering down or something when the Mac goes into standby? Is there anyway to solve this?

• SNMP - So I have a MIB. Now What?

  I can't seem to get my head wrapped around the purpose of a MIB. I have a collection of ~20 MIB files that were supplied to me by the vendor, but what do I do with them? I also have a few OID's that were supplied by the vendor that don't seem to be valid. When I issue an "snmpget -v1 -c public 192.168.0.123 .1.4.6.3.2.6.2" (assume that's a valid OID), I get an error indicating the variable is unknown. Does this sound like a hardware configuration problem? Do I need to "load" (for lack of better words) the MIB into the device? Unfortunately, the vendor has been completely unresponsive with returning emails to my questions, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Why does the terminal in unity 2d (Ubuntu 11.10) always stay in the foreground?

  I have just updated to Ubuntu 11.10 and I am using unity 2d. My terminal applications (gnome-terminal or konsole) just won't go into background. When I move another application in front of them, they are still rendered, but the clicks are going through them. This behavior only appears when the terminal windows interact with another applications. I can move one terminal over another without a problem, but even the menu list of a terminal application can not be shown, since it is - for some unknown reason - "behind" the terminal. Any ideas what might be the cause of this problem? I do not have this problem with my other machines. The only difference is, that I am using unity 2d here and ("normal") unity at home.

  I am running my domain on a vps and I have virtualmin and webmin access. In my php files, I need to record the current time by using mysql NOW() when a row is inserted. I changed the timezone from the php configuration on webmin, but the database function NOW() is still using the default timezone. How can I change the database timezone? • NO USB devices show in windows 8.1 device manager

  Whatever I plug into my USB ports will get power and will charge but will not connect to the computer. I have restarted the computer several times, I re-installed the chipset drivers and still even a USB HDD will not show up under the device manager, not even as an unknown device. I believe this happened because I switched android adb to listen on tcpip rather than USB as this is when the USB ports stopped working. I have set it back to USB but that hasn't seemed to correct the issue. It seems to me that ADB has shut off detection of devices through USB and I am out of ideas and can't find anything useful online. I would prefer not to have to reinstall windows unless I really have to but it is looking like that is exactly what I am going to have to do. I am using windows 8.1. Thanks
