• Google Chrome and kerberos authentication against Apache

  I've managed to get kerberos authentication to work now with Apache and Likewise Open but so far, Google Chrome doesn't seem to play fair. Unless I start it with chrome.exe --auth-server-whitelist="*company.com" it does only pop-up a login window but will not accept any credentials at all. As far as I know, the --auth-server-whitelist option should only be used when trying to get Single-Sign-On (SSO) to work, but if you are fine with a log-in window it should work directly out of the box, but so far it doesn't. • Lost Page Write I/O Errors on CentOS LVM setup

  I have a CentOS 6 box with LVM setup and one of the PVs is a USB disk (I know). One of them is getting the error: Oct 30 10:57:07 alpha01 kernel: lost page write due to I/O error on dm-3 Oct 30 10:57:07 alpha01 kernel: Buffer I/O error on device dm-3, logical block 4 Which is causing problems with all of the LVs on it. pvs shows the PV as unknown device. I can ls to the logical volumes and they show up in lvdisplay, but first I get a bunch of IO errors. I made sure the cables are secure between the USB drive. What should I do to get this back up and running for the meanwhile? Should I unmount each LV and run an fsck.ext4 on each one like fsck.ext4 -y /dev/vg1/lv_logvolname ?

• IIS6 + PHP + FastCGI 500 Errors - Where to start looking?

  I've set up IIS6 with FastCGI to use php-cgi.exe. I have some php websites by external parties, that I'm trying to run in a test environment. One of the websites just plain gives me a FastCGI Error Page. Question: Is there some way to enable logging somewhere so that I can get a bit more information on this problem? I have looked in Eventlog IIS Website log (c:\windows\system32\Logfiles) PHP log But no results, except the IIS Website log mentions a return of a 500 page. Question: Is there any other way to debug/check where things might be going wrong? Here is what the page looks like: FastCGI Error The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request. • getaddrinfo(3) failed

  I'm trying to connect to a webservice using a PHP wrapper (which is using curl under the covers). On my local linux machine running PHP 5.3 it works perfectly. However, when I move to a remote server (also running PHP 5.3 on Linux) the call the the webservice URL returns: getaddrinfo(3) failed for http://server.host.com:8080/login I get a similar error from a ping on the remote host: ping: unknown host http://server.host.com:8080/login But when I issue a curl request from the command line, it returns the expected URL. Can anyone shed any light on this issue? Thanks!

• Why does my win7 back ground and theme settings reset to default after every reboot ?

  I have the new ASUS G73. Everything is perfect, but for unknown reasons to me after customizing the background and theme colors, rebooting resets all these back to default (the theme that originally came with the laptop) Is there a way to stop this madness? Is there some kind of configuration reset app that runs on start up for ASUS computers? This is my first ASUS so I don't know what to expect with the factory bloatware. No, I don't feel like re-installing bare-bones windows just to get rid of the bloatware. Everything works fine except for this one little thing :( Sniff.

• Some Emails incoming to Outlook 2007 are blank, same emails work fine on webmail, iphone, etc

  This is a pretty easy problem to describe. Basically users who have just been upgraded to Outlook 2007 (yeah I know 2010 is out), are not receiving SOME emails (from outside our domain, ie hotmail, yahoo). Receiving is not the correct word, these emails come in, along with their attachments, subjects, to/from line, etc. But the body is blank. If the same user goes into their webmail, iphone, blackberry instead, they can read the message fine. It's clear to me that something in Outlook 2007 is not generating the body correctly, so it just strips it. I just don't know WHY. Our mail server was recently upgraded to Exchange 2010, users on 2010 running outlook 2003 are working fine, it's just the random emails for users using 2007. I hope I made that clear enough, thank you for any future help guys. EDIT: I don't see rft, but i swear I've seen it before. • Exclude pings from apache error logs (ran from PHP exec)

  Now, for a number of reasons I need to ping several hosts on a regular basis for a dashboard display.   We manage a server that is hosted on Amazon EC2, which has web applications that need to be able to send outgoing email. Recently we received a notice from Amazon about possible email abuse on that server, so i've been looking into it. It's Windows Server Datacenter (2003, i guess), and uses SMTP Virtual Server (you know, the one that requires IIS 6 for admin). • How do I disable automatic updates on OpenSUSE 12.2

  For reasons unknown, OpenSUSE seems to have half a dozen different places that mention auto-update. Is there a way I can definitely, permanently, irreversibly disable auto-update so that new software will never, ever, under any circumstances, be installed? Ideally I want to prevent the OS from even connecting to the Internet to see if any updates are available. I've unchecked half a dozen things, but I'm still getting alerts telling me updates are available. I do now want updates! I can't believe this is so hard to turn off... In case it makes any difference, OpenSUSE 12.2 with a GNOME desktop.

• My NTFS Partition keeps becoming "unusable" on Ubuntu, Any Ideas?

  I just purchased a new 2TB Drive External Seagate, My main system uses both Windows and Ubuntu So I am pretty much stuck with keeping my drive as NTFS. I have done this without any problems before but since I got this new drive I have been having issues. When I first load up Ubuntu the drive mounts and runs fine, after an unspecified amount of time i start getting Input/Output errors when accessing the drive. When I goto the Disk Utility I get a message stating the drive is "Unknown or Unused", If I disconnect and reconnect the drive or reboot everything is fine again. There's no errors coming up with S.M.A.R.T and it seems to work fine while under windows. Any thoughts?

• How do I put back different SCSI hard drives into their original RAID arrays across different servers?

  I have potentially a big mess in my hands: I received today a box with several hard drives that used to be connected to different servers each one of them using an unknown - at least as of right now- RAID configuration. Regretfully, these are not marked and I'm not sure how to go about putting them back into their original servers. Currently I don't have much more information: I don't know what type of array was being used on each instance and I don't have any specifics about the RAID controller originally used on each one of the servers (currently these servers are at a remote location with no easy access). Is there a way to sort through this mess? What would be the consequences of using trial and error to go about it? This might be a very basic question but I don't have much experience dealing with RAID arrays.

  I'm trying to run a service that uses $HOME and $USER environment variables. I could set them in service itself, but that would only be a temporary solution. I am looking for best practices for adding this functionality to RightNow widget. Thank you. I really do not like the way i am doing now. It works; but the code looks bad.

• Connect Ralink RT2571 to new PC

  I bought a new PC with the AsRock Z77 Extreme 4m motherboard, since this has no WLAN, I extracted the WLAN card from my old PC, a Ralink RT 2571 WF, an connected it to the new board. I downloaded the driver from http://www.ralinktech.com/en/04_support/support.php?sn=500 (the RT257x USB one) and installed it. In the device manager, an unknown device shows up, but if I tell it to search its driver, it does not find it (searching in the whole C partition). The Ralink Diagnostic Test says that the WLAN Card is disabled. I'm using Windows 7 64bit professional. Can anyone suggest me a solution to get my WLAN running?

  I want to forward my root domain(yourdomain.com) to www.yourdomain.com Should I delete the A record of the root domain and then setup 301 permanent forwarding to www.yourdomain.com? I am hosting my app on heroku. So I don't really have an IP address to setup an A record. The thing is I first deleted the A record of my root domain and then forwarded it. I pinged it and here is the result - ping yourdomain.com ping: cannot resolve yourdomain.com: Unknown host Update and some more information - I am hosting a static website. And managing the DNS on cloudflare.com I added an A record for yourdomain.com - 184.168.221.51 Just an random IP.

• Computer freeze at night

  Every night except one this week my laptop froze over night. I tried to check the event viewer, but there's no real help there. Tonight I'll do a memtest to check the RAM. And this shouldn't be a temperature issue since I can play game without any problem (Diablo 3, League of legend) Is there any diagnosys tool I could use. Maybe something that would write time down every minute so I know the precise time when it freeze? • ubuntu server in a vm, can't connect to internet

  I'm attemtping to host my own development web server in a virtual box guest, Ubuntu Server. I would like this virtual machine to be accessible from not only my home network, but outside the LAN as well. As such, I've set up a static IP (so I can later forward ports to this static IP.) My virtual box settings have this vm only using one adapter -- in bridged mode. Here's what my /etc/network/interfaces looks like: iface eth0 inet static address 10.0.1.203 /*this is outside the DHCP range*/ netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 10.0.1.1 network 10.0.1.0 broadcast 10.0.1.255 dns-nameservers: 8.8.8.8 8.8.8.4 Here's what the output of ifconfig looks like: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2241201/locker/ubuntu.png My Host is a mac mini, running OS X 10.7. • How can I fix a date that changes by 4 years and 1 day when pasted between Excel workbooks

  In Excel dates are represented internally by a floating point number where the integer part is the number of days since "some date" and the fractional part is how far into that day (hence the time). You can see this if you change the format of a date - like 4/10/2009 to a number 39905. But when pasting a date between two different workbooks the date shifts by 4 years and one day!!! In other words "some date" is different between the two workbooks. In one workbook the number 0.0 represents 1/0/1900 and in the other 0.0 represents 1/1/1904. Where is this set and is it controllable? Or does this represent a corrupted file? These workbooks where originally from Excel 2000 but have been worked on now in Excel 2007 and Excel 2003. I can demonstrate the problem between the two workbook files in both 2003 and 2010. The exact history of when they were created or what versions of Excel have been used on each is unknown.

• Preventing - Large Number of Failed Login Attempts from IP

  I'm running a CentOS 6.3 server and currently receive emails entitled "Large Number of Failed Login Attempts from IP" from my server every 15 minutes or so. Surely with the below configured it should mean only the person using the (my static ip) should be able to even try and log in? If that's the case where are these remote unknown users trying to log into which is generating these emails?   I am trying to install the python pandas package in a virtualenv using pip.
