• Is it valid to have more than one question mark in a URL?

  I came across the following URL today: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/inmarin/detail??blogid=122&entry_id=64497 Notice the doubled question mark at the beginning of the query string: ??blogid=122&entry_id=64497 My browser didn't seem to have any trouble with it, and running a quick bookmarklet: javascript:alert(document.location.search); just gave me the query string shown above. Is this a valid URL? The reason I'm being so pedantic (assuming that I am) is because I need to parse URLs like this for query parameters, and supporting doubled question marks would require some changes to my code. Obviously if they're in the wild, I'll need to support them; I'm mainly curious if it's my fault for not adhering to URL standards exactly, or if it's in fact a non-standard URL.

• Assembly not referenced error with Interactive Brokes ActiveX API

  I'm attempting to use the Interactive Brokers ActiveX API, but I'm having a little trouble: error CS0012: The type 'System.Windows.Forms.AxHost' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Windows.Forms, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'. My code: namespace DataFeed.Gateway { class IBGateway : IGateway { private AxTWSLib.AxTws tws; //<-- the error line //... } } I have a console application, so I'm wondering if that might be the reason why ActiveX is not working... or is there something else going on here? Maybe I should add the AxTWSlib.dll to the GAC, but do I really have to? If I add the dll as a resource, then I thought that I don't need to add it to the GAC. Note: I've dropped the AxTWSlib.dll in my project folder and I've added it to the project references... no problems there.

• iPhone: Setting Navigation Bar Title

  Hey all. I'm still pretty new to iPhone development, and I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to change the title of my Navigation Bar. On another question on this site somebody recommended using : viewController.title = @"title text"; but that isn't working for me...Do I need to add a UINavigationController to accomplish this? Or maybe just an outlet from my UIViewController subclass? If it helps, I defined the navigation bar in IB and I'm trying to set its title in my UIViewController subclass. This is another one of those simple things that gives me a headache. Putting self.title = @"title text"; in viewDidLoad and initWithNibName didn't work either. Anybody know what's happening and how to get it happening right? Thanks!

• Ant deploy WAR file to tomcat server failure

  I am having a little trouble getting my deployment task in ant to function. I have a war file that is generated as part of the build process, and I am now trying to autodeploy that to my test server. In ant I have defined a deployment task as seen below. When I try to run it I get a file not found error on the server in the catalina.out log file. Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong that is causing this deploy to not function? I have checked the path, and it is correct and the WAR file exists. • Excel VBA to check autofilter for data

  I need help checking for autofiltered rows not including the header. I want it to give a message box "No records found." then exit sub or continue with copy paste if there are rows beyond the header row. I know I need an If/Else entry after the filter to check for data but I'm having trouble figuring how to check. This code is being done from a UserForm I created. • Naming suggestions for a function returning parent prototype

  I'm having a naming trouble with a function which returns parent prototype of specified object. It's being used like this: # Pseudo Code MyClass { super(MyClass,this).constructor.call(.... The problem is that I want to use a word which is as superior as "super", but "super" is reserved even it's undefined. Now I'm using "parent", but the window object has a property named parent. I hate Javascript. What should I name this function? Names have to start with lowercase and have to be short.

• How do you access URL text following the # sign through Java?

  Using Java (.jsp or whatever) is there a way where I can send a request for this page: http://www.mystore.com/store/shelf.jsp?category=mens#page=2 and have the Java code parse the URL and see the #page=2 and respond accordingly? Basically, I'm looking for the Java code that allows me to access the characters following the hash tag. The reason I'm doing this is that I want to load subsequent pages via AJAX (on my shelf) and then allow the user to copy and paste the URL and send it to a friend. Without the ability of Java being able to read the characters following the hash tag I'm uncertain as to how I would manipulate the URL with Javascript in a way that the server would be able to also read without causing the page to re-load. I'm having trouble even figuring out how to access/see the entire URL (http://www.mystore.com/store/shelf.jsp?category=mens#page=2) from within my Java code...

• LINQ-to-XML to DataGridView: Cannot edit fields -- How to fix?

  I am currently doing LINQ-to-XML and populating a DataGridView with my query just fine. The trouble I am running into is that once loaded into the DataGridView, the values appear to be Un-editable (ReadOnly). • Which browsers support font embedding.

  I've been reading about the @font-face rule and trying to work out if it's worth using it in a project to render "franklin gothic medium" for title instead of something like sIfr. I figured that for browsers that don't support it I could make it fall back on Arial. The thing is that I'm having trouble getting a definitive answer about which browsers support embedding fonts in this way. So far I've worked out the IE does, but doesn't support .ttf files. Other browsers I'm not sure. If anyone could point me towards some kinf of compatibility chart that would be great. Jon

  Hi all, In Classic ASP, shouldn't a subroutine in global.asa be available to all .asp pages in the session? For some reason I am having trouble calling the sub. Before I look at whether something specific to my application is causing the problem I wanted to make sure I understood properly. global.asa: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="VBScript" RUNAT="Server"> sub foo session("foo") = true end sub </SCRIPT> myinclude.inc, included in all pages: call foo I get 'Type Mismatch' runtime error referencing foo. Am I totally misunderstanding this?

• Building an application that includes a DB, and need recommendations

  I'm going to build a little system for personal use, and I want it to save data to a database. The language is going to be C#, and so I'd like to use this opportunity to get my head around LINQ to SQL. I have some DB experience and I know my SQL, but it was all in school using Access, which is giving me trouble, and so I'd like to use another DB, something that is small in size, easy to install, and should work with LINQ to SQL. The problem is: I don't know any except Access, and am looking for recommendations. To sum it up: I need a lightweight, easy to install, linq-to-sql supporting database for a small system on a home computer, any recommendations?

  I know I can simply write to the CommandBandLayout regkey but since I don't know what format it is I'm having doubts if that is safe. • MVC (model-view-controller) - can it be explained in simple terms?

  I need to explain to a not-very-technical manager the MVC (model-view-controller) concept and ran into trouble. The problem is that the explanation needs to be on a "your grandma will get it" level - e.g. even the fairly straightforward explanation offered on MVC Wiki page didn't work, at least with my commentary. Does anyone have a reference to a good MVC explanation in simple terms? It would ideally be done with non-techie metaphor examples (e.g. similar to "Decorator pattern is like glasses") - one reason I failed was that all MVC examples I could come up with were development related. I once saw a list of pattern explanations but to the best of my memory MVC was not on it. Thanks!

• HTTPS with Self-Signed Certificate Issues... Solution or better way?

  All I need to do is download some basic text-based and image files from a web server that has a self-signed SSL certificate. I have been trying to figure out how to use HttpClient to do this, but getting the SSL to work is a nightmare that seems to be way too much trouble for such a simple task. Is there a better way to perform these file downloads? Perhaps through a WebView or Browser feature?   on larger projects i use a simple bug tracking system thats designed to be used by clients i have a lot of trouble convincing clients to use it (they send bug reports via email) does anyone have any strategies they can suggested? also, i have been playing around with a theory as to why this is the case; it goes like this: asking a client to log a bug is like taking your car to a mechanic for a service, and the mechanic hands you the engine oil and says "here, pop that in". basically, the client has paid you to do the work, logging a bug sounds too much like work, so they want you to do it thoughts? -- LM

• PHPIniDir broken under windows 7?

  I had a server running on a windows xp machine using apache2 with php and mysql. I've recently upgraded to windows 7 and have been having trouble getting it to work. Apache works fine and php works, but I can't seem to get it to work with a php.ini file. When I set PHPIniDir to a directory with a php.ini file, the Apache service does NOT start. When I set PHPIniDir to a directory with NO php.ini file, the Apache service does start. When I leave out PHPIniDir, the Apache service does not start. Has anyone found a fix for this problem? Thanks! EDIT: PHPIniDir "C:\Windows" #works (no php.ini file) PHPIniDir "C:\Program Files (x86)\php\" #does not work (contains php.ini file) i enable at most one at any given time.

• matrix image processing in OpenGL CE

  im trying to create an image filter in OpenGL CE. currently I am trying to create a series of 4x4 matrices and multiply them together. then use glColorMask and glColor4f to adjust the image accordingly. I've been able to integrate hue rotation, saturation, and brightness. but i am having trouble adding contrast. thus far google hasn't been to helpful. I've found a few matrices but they don't seem to work. do you guys have any ideas?

• Flex, can't custom style the tooltip

  I'm having trouble changing the font size of my TextInput tooltip. The text input looks like this: <s:TextInput id="first" toolTip="Hello"/> then I create a style like this: <fx:Style> @namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"; @namespace mx "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo"; mx|ToolTip { fontSize: 24; } </fx:Style> but absolutely nothing happens. • How to parse a binary file using Javascript and Ajax

  I am trying to use JQuery to pull a binary file from a webserver, parse it in Javascript and display the contents. I can get the file ok and parse some of the file correctly. How ever I am running into trouble with one byte not coming out as expected. I am parsing the file a byte at a time, it is correct until I get to the hex value B6 where I am getting FD instead of B6. Function to read a byte data.charCodeAt(0) & 0xff; File As Hex: 02 00 00 00 55 4C 04 00 B6 00 00 00 The format I want to parse the file out into. short: 0002 short: 0000 string: UL short: 0004 long: 0000B6 Any hints as to why the last value is incorrect?

• Are there any Python reference counting/garbage collection gotchas when dealing with C code?

  Just for the sheer heck of it, I've decided to create a Scheme binding to libpython so you can embed Python in Scheme programs. I'm already able to call into Python's C API, but I haven't really thought about memory management. The way mzscheme's FFI works is that I can call a function, and if that function returns a pointer to a PyObject, then I can have it automatically increment the reference count. Then, I can register a finalizer that will decrement the reference count when the Scheme object gets garbage collected. I've looked at the documentation for reference counting, and don't see any problems with this at first glance (although it may be sub-optimal in some cases). Are there any gotchas I'm missing? Also, I'm having trouble making heads or tails of the cyclic garbage collector documentation. What things will I need to bear in mind here? In particular, how do I make Python aware that I have a reference to something so it doesn't collect it while I'm still using it?

• node.js with SQL Server Native Client 11 scope_identity not being returned

  I'm having trouble with inserting a value into a database through node.js. Here is the offending code: sql.query(conn_str ,"INSERT INTO Login(email, hash, salt, firstName, lastName) VALUES(?, ?, ?, ?, ?); SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() AS 'Identity';" , [email, hash, salt, firstName, lastName], function(err, results){ console.log(results) } Unfortunately, the console is just echoing [], meaning results is an empty array, I suppose. Does anyone know why the identity is not being returned? Even if it was null, why isn't results then [{Identity: null }] ? Database is on Azure, which does have a "Scope_Identity" function, and the native client also recognises this function. Using node package "msnodesql" Please Help

  I am having trouble with an assertQuery(). In the html I have (verified by outputting the body) <input type="text" name="LASTNAME" id="LASTNAME" value="" maxlength="25" size="20" /> So I wrote a query for it to test to make sure this element exists and that the value is empty $this->assertQuery('input#LASTNAME[value=""]', 1); PhpUnit says the assertion fails Failed asserting node DENOTED BY input#LASTNAME[value=""] EXISTS Can you give me some insight into why this assertion fails and how to write it properly?
