• R12.0 Cash Management Consolidated Patch Collection (CPC) And R12.1 Cash Management Recommended Patch Collection (RPC)

  If you have Oracle E-Business Suite's Cash Management (CE) application installed, you'll want to be sure to install the latest CPC (Consolidated Patch Collection) if you are using a R12.0 version of the apps, or the latest RPC (Recommended Patch Collection) for the R12.1 version of the apps. These collections give you all the fixes currently available for known issues in the specified versions of the application, including all of the latest Root Cause Analysis Fixes (RCAs)! What is an "RPC" (for R12.1 users)? Since the release of 12.1, a number of recommended patches for Oracle Cash Management have been made available as standalone patches to help address important business process issues. Adoption of these patches was highly recommended at the time, but not always implemented, so to further facilitate adoption of these patches, Oracle consolidated them into product-specific Recommended Patch Collections (RPCs) - a collection of recommended patches. They were created by Oracle Development with the following goals in mind: Stability: To address data integrity issues that have been identified by Oracle Development and Oracle Software Support as having the potential to interfere with the normal completion of important business processes (such as, period close, etc.). Root Cause Fixes (RCAs): To make available root cause fixes for known data integrity issues. Compact: To keep the file footprint as small as possible to help facilitate the install process and minimize testing. Granular: To compile the collection of patches based on functional areas, allowing a customer to apply multiple RPCs at once, or in phases (based on individual needs and goals).   As an affiliate, how can we get more information on sales? It looks like the goals feature in GA is for those who have control over the receipt page. But we are sending users away using an affiliate link. With event tracking, we've been able to count the clicks and see which links are being clicked the most, but not which ones actually convert. We want to find out the following on each sale: Did the converted user come from search or internal traffic? If it was search, which keyword brought the user to our site (and clicked away and converted)? Is it possible?

  I'm working on a small project that will likely run on Wordpress, I always like to run some split testing to improve conversion rates for various goals. Typically if its a small site that I either don't have a budget for or want to keep it as inexpensive as possible I use Google Website Optimizer if I do have a budget I go with Visual Website Optimizer both are great and affordable, but for fun I was checking out alternatives and found Genetify which is an open source project and has some neat features. In searching around I don't see many people talking about it and wondered if anyone here has used it. If so what do you think about it?

  I have two goals set up for my site in Google Analytics: one to download the demo of my software, and the other to buy the full version. I'm having trouble getting statistics on how often the download leads to a purchase. This seems like something the multi-channel funnel is perfect for (as in this question)---I expect that it takes multiple visits for the demo download to convert into an order. However, I can't seem to narrow down the multi-channel funnel data into only those that have one goal followed by another. If it matters, I'm tracking the ordering action as a page view (i.e., someone views the "Thanks for ordering" page) and the demo download as an action (which fires when someone clicks the "download" button). • Google Analytics Funnel problems

  I have a problem with the funnels in Google Analytics. So I have a e-commerce website that I want to track the user path to a purchase. I want GA to track if a user goes trough these steps [Item page]-[Purchase]-[Checkout]. I thought this could be done by funnels and my setup currently now consist of: Step 1: [Item page] (Required) Step 2: [Purchase] Goal: [Checkout] But when I go to the "Funnel Visualization Report" the following shows. [Item page] Visits: 150 [Purchase page] Visits: 170 [Checkout] Visits: 32 How can the [Purchase page] be higher than the [Item page]? I searched the internet over, and found something called Horizontal Funnels but this doesn't show the correct numbers, again the purchase and checkout steps are higher than the item page. So somehow it doesn't need step 1, to fulfill the funnels/goals. What am I doing wrong?

• Is regularly hiring and making permanent staff redundant normal? [on hold]

  Is a cycle of hiring permanent staff and then making them redundant after 1-2 years due to 're-alignment of business goals' / 'changes in priorities' normal in the technology industry? This behaviour hardly seems justifiable, and here in the UK it is questionable whether it is even legal. I begin to wonder whether some of this behaviour I have seen in this economy is due to the companies involved not wanting to pay premium rates for contractors (who I must admit in my opinion often offer no more value), and using 'redundancy' e.g. "sorry joe, you're not needed any more", as a convenient way of recreating the contracting scenario. It seems in this situation if you're a valued developer your job probably is never at risk, but I can understand it being a worry for people and I don't think it is fair on those who are mislead into thinking that they have a longer term career with the companies which do this.

• How can I defend Ruby on Rails against customers' not technical opinion?

  My customer, a translations business owner, just told me that he has been reading about Ruby on Rails and told me that "there are more PHP guys around there" and "it seems the community prefers it". What would you, as software engineer and freelancer, say to the customer to achieve these goals: Sell Make him see that the technology is my expert decision and Rails is as good or better than PHP (+ whatever framework) for this particular project. • Objective-C wrapper API design methodology

  I know there's no one answer to this question, but I'd like to get people's thoughts on how they would approach the situation. I'm writing an Objective-C wrapper to a C library. My goals are: 1) The wrapper use Objective-C objects. For example, if the C API defines a parameter such as char *name, the Objective-C API should use name:(NSString *). 2) The client using the Objective-C wrapper should not have to have knowledge of the inner-workings of the C library. Speed is not really any issue. That's all easy with simple parameters. It's certainly no problem to take in an NSString and convert it to a C string to pass it to the C library. My indecision comes in when complex structures are involved. Let's say you have: struct flow { long direction; long speed; long disruption; long start; long stop; } flow_t; And then your C API call is: void setFlows(flow_t inFlows[4]); So, some of the choices are: 1) expose the flow_t structure to the client and have the Objective-C API take an array of those structures 2) build an NSArray of four NSDictionaries containing the properties and pass that as a parameter 3) create an NSArray of four "Flow" objects containing the structure's properties and pass that as a parameter My analysis of the approaches: Approach 1: Easiest. However, it doesn't meet the design goals Approach 2: For some reason, this seems to me to be the most "Objective-C" way of doing it. However, each element of the NSDictionary would have to be wrapped in an NSNumber. Now it seems like we're doing an awful lot just to pass the equivalent of a struct. Approach 3: Seems the cleanest to me from an object-oriented standpoint and the extra encapsulation could come in handy later. However, like #2, it now seems like we're doing an awful lot (creating an array, creating and initializing objects) just to pass a struct. So, the question is, how would you approach this situation? Are there other choices I'm not considering? Are there additional advantages or disadvantages to the approaches I've presented that I'm not considering?

• Animating custom-drawn UITableViewCell when entering edit mode

  Background First of all, much gratitude to atebits for their very informative blog post Fast Scrolling in Tweetie with UITableView. The post explains in detail how the developers were able to squeeze as much scrolling performance as possible out of the UITableViews in Tweetie. Goals Beginning with the source code linked from the blog post (original) (my github repo): Allow a UITableView using these custom cells to switch to edit mode, exposing the UI for deleting an item from the table. (github commit) Move the cell's text aside as the deletion control slides in from the left. This is complete, although the text jumps back and forth without animation. (github commit) Apply animation to the text movement in goal 2 above for a smooth user experience. This is the step where I became stuck. The Question What is the best way to introduce this animation to complete goal 3? It would be nice if this could be done in a manner that keeps the logic from my last commit because I would love the option to move the conflicting part of the view only, while any non-conflicting portions (such as right-justified text) stay in the same place or move a different number of pixels. If the above is not possible then undoing my last commit and replacing it with an option that slides the entire view to the right would be a workable solution also. I appreciate any help anyone can provide, from quick pointers and ideas all the way to code snippets or github commits. Of course you are welcome to fork my repo if you would like. I will be staying involved with this question to make sure any successful resolution is committed to github and fully documented here. Thanks very much for your time! Updated thoughts I have been thinking about this a lot since my first post and realized that moving some text items relative to others in the view could undo some of the original performance goals solved in the original blog post. So at this point I am thinking a solution where the entire single subview is animated to its new postion may be the best one. Second, if it is done in this way there may be an instance where the subview has a custom color or gradient background. Hopefully this can be done in a way that in its normal position the background extends unseen off to the left enough so that when the view is slid to the right the custom background is still visible across the entire cell.

• WSIT, Maven, and wsimport -- Can They Work Together?

  Hi all, I'm working on a small-ish multi-module project in Maven. We've separated the UI from the database layer using Web Services, and thanks to the jaxws-maven-plugin, the creation of the WSDL and WS client are more or less handled for us. (The plugin is essentially a wrapper around wsgen and wsimport.) So far so good. The problem comes when I try to layer WSIT security into the picture. NetBeans allows me to generate the security metadata easily, but wsimport seems completely incapable of dealing with anything beyond a Basic-auth level of security. Nothing, however, seems to change the composition of the wsimport-generated files at all. So I guess my question here is, to get a WSIT-compliant client, am I stuck abandoning Maven and the jaxws plugin altogether? Is there a way to get a WSIT client to auto-generate? Or will I need to generate the client by hand? Let me know if you need any additional info beyond what I've written here. I'm deploying to Tomcat, although that doesn't seem to be an issue, as Maven seems happy to pull Metro into the deployed WAR file. Thanks in advance!

But I would like to use Google Website Optimizer to see what buttons or headlines get the most leads in our newsletter subscription form. Since a new subscription only triggers AJAX/Javascript, I cannot add a separate success/thankyou.html page to track in Google Website Analyzer. There is not much to find in Google's documentation about this. Has anyone been able to do this?

The cxf-java2ws-plugin throws a ClassNotFoundException for org.springframework.core.NestedRuntimeException. For instance, instead of mvn eclipse:eclipse completion escapes the colon mvn eclipse\:eclipse Any suggestions how this can be fixed? • is appassembler plugin broken for java service wrapper on windows 64bit?

  Hi I'm developing on 32bit windows and am using appassembler to create a java service wrapper assembly, and it works ok. But I need to also create a 64bit assembly for deployment to a dev server. In the following config I have substituted the 32bit platform with the 64bit, see the <includes> section. But it no longer places the wrapper jar and dll in the lib folder. If I omit the includes completely, I get linux, solaris, Mac OSX and Win32 libraries, but no win64.
