  • Re-use of database object in sub-sonic

    Yet another newbie SubSonic/ActiveRecord question. Suppose I want to insert a couple of records, currently I'm doing this: using (var scope = new System.Transactions.TransactionScope()) { // Insert company company c = new company(); c.name = "ACME"; c.Save(); // Insert some options company_option o = new company_option(); o.name = "ColorScheme"; o.value = "Red"; o.company_id = c.company_id; o.Save(); o = new company_option(); o.name = "PreferredMode"; o.value = "Fast"; o.company_id = c.company_id; o.Save(); scope.Complete(); } Stepping through this code however, each of the company/company_option constructors go off and create a new myappDB object which just seems wasteful. Is this the recommended approach or should I be trying to re-use a single DB object - and if so, what's the easiest way to do this?

  • Extracting a .app from a zip file in Python, using ZipFile

    I'm trying to extract new revisions of Chromium.app from their snapshots, and I can download the file fine, but when it comes to extracting it, ZipFile either extracts the chrome-mac folder within as a file, says that directories don't exist, etc. I am very new to python, so these errors make little sense to me. I don't know why, since my model association are well defined and the event table has the foreign keys for the user table.   • Strange FileNotFoundException occuring on production server in console application

    Hi I have an application that works fine in my dev enviroment, but throws weird errors in the production enviroment, I checked the version of .net on my dev machine aswell as the production server , they both run 3.5.30729.01. When I run the following command against a "Global Distribution List" it works fine and I can see who belongs to it. dsquery group -name "SomeGroup" | dsget group -members -expand However as I mentioned when I run this against a "Universal Distribution List" I get no results. Can anyone help?

  • Atomically maintaining a counter using Sub-sonic ActiveRecord

    I'm trying to figure out the correct way to atomically increment a counter in one table and use that incremented value as an pseudo display-only ID for a record in another. What I have is a companies table and a jobs table. I want each company to have it's own set of job_numbers. I do have an auto increment job_id, but those numbers are shared across all companies. ie: the job numbers should generally increment without gaps for each company. ie: companies(company_id, next_job_number) jobs(company_id, job_id, job_number) Currently I'm doing this (as a method on the partial job class): public void SaveJob() { using (var scope = new System.Transactions.TransactionScope()) { if (job_id == 0) { _db.Update<company>() .SetExpression("next_job_number").EqualTo("next_job_number+1") .Where<company>(x => x.company_id == company_id) .Execute(); company c = _db.companies.SingleOrDefault(x => x.company_id == company_id); job_number = c.next_job_number; } // Save the job this.Save(); scope.Complete(); } } It seems to work, but I'm not sure if there are pitfalls here?   • How to parse an XML string in TDI

    I am new to TDI. I have a TDI assembly line that calls a web service (ibmdi.InvokeSoapWS) which returns the result as a string in the work attribute 'xmlString'. I then have an AttributeMap that attempts to parse the xml and extract a value (the node it seeks is a few nodes deep). var parser = system.getParser('ibmdi.SOAP'); var xmlString = work.getString('xmlString'); var entity = parser.parseRequest(xmlString); task.dump(entity); The trouble is, the parsed object does not contain an accurate representation of the XML. It contains only two attributes, the first is correctly the first node following the soap body (e.g., ns0:SomeNodeReply), the second being a node inside the first (e.g., ns0:DetailCount). And as far as I can determine, both attributes are just strings so I cannot recurse into the object graph.     I need to program a simple Windows Explorer that only lists all files inside a folder recursively. The only solution I found up to now is using an ActiveX controller. So, I installed Visual Studio 2010, but I don't know really how to use it to make an ActiveX. I tried to create a Class Library then add a Explorer module. It compiles, but I don't know what to do now. Is there an easier way to do this or am I missing something ?

Our team is exploring the possibility of abandoning virtual directories in favor of junctions to simplify our build process.   • Check whether a folder is a local or a network resource in .NET

    Is there a quick way to check whether a path I have is on a local disk or somewhere on the network? I can't just check to see if it's a drive letter vs. UNC, because that would incorrectly identify mapped drives as local. I assumed it would be a boolean in the DirectoryInfo object, but it appears that it's not. I've found classic VB code to do this check (through an API), but nothing for .NET so far.

    I have an old c++ application that needs to be modified to work with windows 7. Problem is in creating a new folder and saving a file in that folder. This folder should be created in c:\program files\myApp\data\newFolder. This is function I use to create new folder and get errors: if(!CreateDirectory(pathSamples,NULL)) //Throw Error { DWORD errorcode = GetLastError(); LPVOID lpMsgBuf; FormatMessage(FORMAT_MESSAGE_ALLOCATE_BUFFER | FORMAT_MESSAGE_FROM_SYSTEM | FORMAT_MESSAGE_IGNORE_INSERTS, NULL, errorcode, MAKELANGID(LANG_NEUTRAL, SUBLANG_DEFAULT), (LPTSTR)&lpMsgBuf, 0, NULL ); MessageBox(NULL, (LPCTSTR)lpMsgBuf, TEXT("Error"), MB_OK); } In XP this works, but in Windows 7 it doesn't. If I run application as administrator than the folder is created, otherwise "Access is denied" error is thrown. My question is following: Is there an option to make changes to the code so that the folder can be created in "program files" nad that files can be saved in this folder?
