Alright, I don't want to get picky here, but is my reader open or closed?

    I have an array of objects. The objects have a property called level that is a string which contains a number and is in consistent format. I am trying to find the highest number and return just that one but I seem to be blocked as far as how to proceed from my current code.   • Remove year component from NSDateFormatter style

    I would like to present a date in the kCFDateFormatterFullStyle, but without the year. Is there any way to remove the year component from this style? My app requires localization so practically I cannot programmatically set the format string for all locales. I have come accross a solution which removes the "y" characters from the format string returned by the built in styles. Unfortunately, this is not acceptable as the year components are not represented by "y" in some other languages like Japanese. Any suggestions to get the kCFDateFormatterFullStyle without the year would be great! Thanks.

    So for this is what I've got: $(document).ready(function () { $("#div p").load("/update/temp.php"); function addOne() { var number = parseInt($("#div p").html()); return number + 1; } setInterval(function () { $("#div p").text(addOne()); }, 1000); setInterval(function () { $("#geupdate p").load("/update/temp.php");} ,10000); }); So this grabs a a UNIX timestamp from temp.php and puts into into #div p, and then adds 1 to it every second, and then every 10 seconds it will check the original file to keep it up to speed. My problem is that I need to format this UNIX timestamp into a format such as "1 day 3 hours 56 minutes and 3 seconds ago", while also doing all the incrementation and ajax calls. I'm not very experienced with jquery/javascript, so I might be missing something basic.

    I'm reading these two pages resources Adding more RESTful actions The Rails Guides page shows map.resources :photos, :new => { :upload => :post } And its corresponding URL /photos/upload This looks wonderful. My routes.rb shows this map.resources :users, :new => { :signup => :get, :register => :post } When I do: [~/my_app]$ rake routes I see the two new routes added signup_new_user GET /users/new/signup(.:format) register_new_user POST /users/new/register(.:format) Note the inclusion of /new! I don't want that. I just want /users/signup and /users/register (as described in the Rails Routing Guide). Any help?

  • Searching in Ruby on Rails - How do I search on each word entered and not the exact string?

    I have built a blog application w/ ruby on rails and I am trying to implement a search feature. The blog application allows for users to tag posts. The tags are created in their own table and belong_to :post. When a tag is created, so is a record in the tag table where the name of the tag is tag_name and associated by post_id. Tags are strings. I am trying to allow a user to search for any word tag_name in any order. Here is what I mean. Lets say a particular post has a tag that is 'ruby code controller'. In my current search feature, that tag will be found if the user searches for 'ruby', 'ruby code', or 'ruby code controller'. It will not be found if the user types in 'ruby controller'. Essentially what I am saying is that I would like each word entered in the search to be searched for, not necessarily the 'string' that is entered into the search. I have been experimenting with providing multiple textfields to allow the user to type in multiple words, and also have been playing around with the code below, but can't seem to accomplish the above. I am new to ruby and rails so sorry if this is an obvious question and prior to installing a gem or plugin I thought I would check to see if there was a simple fix. An integer indicating the event type and serialized data relevant to the event is stored in the database as show below.     I am trying to import a .csv file into a MySQL table via phpMyAdmin. The .csv file is separated by pipes, formated like this: data|d'ata|d'a"ta|dat"a| data|"da"ta|data|da't'a| dat'a|data|da"ta"|da'ta| The data contains quotes. I have no control over the format in which I recieve the data -- it is generated by a third party. The problem comes when there is a | followed by a double quote. I always get an "invalid field count in CSV input on line N" error. I am uploading the file from the import page, using Latin1, CSV, terminated by |, separated by ". I would like to just change the "enclosed by" character, but I keep getting "Invalid parameter for CSV import: Fields enclosed by". I have tried various characters with no success. How can I tell MySQL to accept this format in phpMyAdmin? Setting up these tables is the first step in writing a program that will use uploaded gzipped .csv files to maintain the catalog of an e-commerce site.

    Hello, can you please help me with the following questions... If I need a virtual printer that will convert a PostScript stream to a different format, do I have to implement a virtual printer from scratch or implement a rendering plug-in? The rendering plug-in seems to support only certain customizations. Also the data invariably goes to the spooler which is not needed in this case. If I implement a virtual printer driver does it completely replace the Microsoft PostScript Driver or the Microsoft Universal Driver? Since my driver is virtual, does it matter if I write a PostScript compliant or a Universal Driver compliant one? Any other method to convert a printed document to a custom document format apart from implementing a virtual printer driver? Can I hook on as a port monitor or something? From what I could understand I guess not.

    Basically what I have is web services returning data in xml format. Once I do a call to a webservice to retrive data from web service function (GetUserList) i want to take that data and then dymaically display (no postback) the resulting information. I know several ways of doing this: webservice sends data back to javascript, javascript then parses, replaces strings or text inside a div or child, or take the information retrieved and then put it into html table format through javascript.     Hi all, I have used the following statements to get the current time. print "$query executed successfully at ",localtime; print "$query executed successfully at ",(localtime); print "$query executed successfully at ".(localtime); Output executed successfully at 355516731103960 executed successfully at 355516731103960 executed successfully at Wed Apr 7 16:55:35 2010 The first two statements are not printing the current time in a date format. Third statement only giving the correct output in a date format. My understanding is the first one is returning a value in scalar context,so it is returning numbers. Then in the second print I used localtime in list context only,why it's also giving number output.

If I change the date format there in "Regional and Language Options", I see no effect in my application.

I don't always want to deploy before testing it, though. Using the stated format for calling the dev version doesn't work. It still calls the deployed version of my ruleset: http://cs.kobj.net/blue/event/{domain}/{eventname}/{appid}:kynetx_app_version=dev What am I doing wrong?

  • Displaying pic for user through a question's answer

    Ok, I am trying to display the profile pic of a user. The application I have set up allows users to create questions and answers (I am calling answers 'sites' in the code) the view in which I am trying to do so is in the /views/questions/show.html.erb file. It might also be of note that I am using the Paperclip gem. Here is the set up: Associations Users class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :questions, :dependent => :destroy has_many :sites, :dependent => :destroy has_many :notes, :dependent => :destroy has_many :likes, :through => :sites , :dependent => :destroy has_many :pics, :dependent => :destroy has_many :likes, :dependent => :destroy end Questions class Question < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :sites, :dependent => :destroy has_many :notes, :dependent => :destroy has_many :likes, :dependent => :destroy belongs_to :user end Answers (sites) class Site < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :question belongs_to :user has_many :notes, :dependent => :destroy has_many :likes, :dependent => :destroy has_attached_file :photo, :styles => { :small => "250x250>" } end Pics class Pic < ActiveRecord::Base has_attached_file :profile_pic, :styles => { :small => "100x100" } belongs_to :user end The /views/questions/show.html.erb is rendering the partial /views/sites/_site.html.erb which is calling the Answer (site) with: <% div_for site do %> <%=h site.description %> <% end %> I have been trying to do things like: <%=image_tag site.user.pic.profile_pic.url(:small) %> <%=image_tag site.user.profile_pic.url(:small) %> etc. But that is obviously wrong. My error directs me to the Questions#show action so I am imagining that I need to define something in there but not sure what. Is is possible to call the pic given the current associations, placement of the call, and if so what Controller additions do I need to make, and what line of code will call the pic?
