  • Warning: LBA32 addressing assumed

    - by user197194
Warning: LBA32 addressing assumed when i read this and my server is rebooting, it wont boot again. I have to boot from USB, repair bootloader and then its rebooting again, but after the next update of the Linux Kernel (i think that is it) i will read that again and blah blah. Can anyone explain how to fix that permanently? I usually use Grub, but when this error hits, he tries to boot with Lilo. Greeetz and Thanks in advance!

  • Suspend fails and I know the module causing it. What can I do?

    - by ch0wn
My suspend did not correctly since I installed a USB 3 extension card in my PC. Instead of going to S3, the computer just woke up instantly. dmesg gave the hint "usb_dev_suspend+0x0/0x20 returns -2" so I rmmod'ed the "xhci_hcd" module which did the trick. Is there a good way for me to work around this? The builds from the Kernel Mainline PPA did not help, unfortunately, and blacklisting the module is not my favorite option. Where is the best place for me to report this issue?

  • CONFIG_ATH_USER_REGD variable In Ununtu

    - by BigGenius
There is a CONFIG_ATH_USER_REGD variable in OpenWrt that allows the user to override the default settings of the wireless NIC. Unfortunately grepping the Arch kernel config doesn't seem to have that, and since OpenWrt has its fair share of hacking and patches, I don't know if that's something they added or that's provided e.g. in compat-wireless. Does this setting exists for Ubuntu or BackTrack-Linux?

    - by ACC
I have a problem with maverick when resuming from hibernate. Here's a screenshot: Also I'm getting the following errors before the screen appears: *ERROR* render ring head not reset to zero ctl 00... *ERROR* render ring head forced to zero ctl 00000... I tried upgrading to PPA kernel to 2.5.36 and 2.5.37 beta but the problem persists. I have a vaio notebook with an intel graphics card 4500mhd. Anyone knows of a fix?

  • Application stuck in TCP retransmit

    - by SandeepJ
I am running Linux kernel 3.13 (Ubuntu 14.04) on two Virtual Machines each of which operates inside two different servers running ESXi 5.1. There is a zeromq client-server application running between the two VMs. After running for about 10-30 minutes, this application consistently hangs due to inability to retransmit a lost packet. When I run the same setup over Ubuntu 12.04 (Linux 3.11), the application never fails If you notice below, "ss" (socket statistics) shows 1 packet lost, sk_wmem_queued of 14110 (i.e. w14110) and a high rto (120000). State Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address:Port Peer Address:Port ESTAB 0 12350 192.168.2.122:41808 192.168.2.172:55550 timer:(on,16sec,10) uid:1000 ino:35042 sk:ffff880035bcb100 <- skmem:(r0,rb648720,t0,tb1164800,f2274,w14110,o0,bl0) ts sack cubic wscale:7,7 rto:120000 rtt:7.5/3 ato:40 mss:8948 cwnd:1 ssthresh:21 send 9.5Mbps unacked:1 retrans:1/10 lost:1 rcv_rtt:1476 rcv_space:37621 Since this has happened so consistently, I was able to capture the TCP log in wireshark. I found that the packet which is lost does get retransmitted and even acknowledged by the TCP in the other OS (the sequence number is seen in the ACK), but the sender doesn't seem to understand this ACK and continues retransmitting. MTU is 9000 on both virtual machines and througout the route. The packets being sent are large in size. As I said earlier, this does not happen on Ubuntu 12.04 (kernel 3.11). So I did a diff on the TCP config options (seen via "sysctl -a |grep tcp ") between 14.04 and 12.04 and found the following differences. I also noticed that net.ipv4.tcp_mtu_probing=0 in both configurations. Left side is 3.11, right side is 3.13 <<net.ipv4.tcp_abc = 0 <<net.ipv4.tcp_cookie_size = 0 <<net.ipv4.tcp_dma_copybreak = 4096 14c11 << net.ipv4.tcp_early_retrans = 2 --- >> net.ipv4.tcp_early_retrans = 3 17c14 << net.ipv4.tcp_fastopen = 0 >> net.ipv4.tcp_fastopen = 1 20d16 << net.ipv4.tcp_frto_response = 0 26,27c22 << net.ipv4.tcp_max_orphans = 16384 << net.ipv4.tcp_max_ssthresh = 0 >> net.ipv4.tcp_max_orphans = 4096 29,30c24,25 << net.ipv4.tcp_max_tw_buckets = 16384 << net.ipv4.tcp_mem = 94377 125837 188754 >> net.ipv4.tcp_max_tw_buckets = 4096 >> net.ipv4.tcp_mem = 23352 31138 46704 34a30 >> net.ipv4.tcp_notsent_lowat = -1 My question to the networking experts on this forum : Are there any other debugging tools or options I can install/enable to dig further into why this TCP retransmit failure is occurring so consistently ? Are there any configuration changes which might account for this weird behaviour.

  • Detect user logout / shutdown in Python / GTK under Linux

    - by Ivo Wetzel
OK this is presumably a hard one, I've got an pyGTK application that has random crashes due to X Window errors that I can't catch/control. So I created a wrapper that restarts the app as soon as it detects a crash, now comes the problem, when the user logs out or shuts down the system, the app exits with status 1. But on some X errors it does so too. So I tried literally anything to catch the shutdown/logout, with no success, here's what I've tried: import pygtk import gtk import sys class Test(gtk.Window): def delete_event(self, widget, event, data=None): open("delete_event", "wb") def destroy_event(self, widget, data=None): open("destroy_event", "wb") def destroy_event2(self, widget, event, data=None): open("destroy_event2", "wb") def __init__(self): gtk.Window.__init__(self, gtk.WINDOW_TOPLEVEL) self.show() self.connect("delete_event", self.delete_event) self.connect("destroy", self.destroy_event) self.connect("destroy-event", self.destroy_event2) def foo(): open("add_event", "wb") def ex(): open("sys_event", "wb") from signal import * def clean(sig): f = open("sig_event", "wb") f.write(str(sig)) f.close() exit(0) for sig in (SIGABRT, SIGILL, SIGINT, SIGSEGV, SIGTERM): signal(sig, lambda *args: clean(sig)) def at(): open("at_event", "wb") import atexit atexit.register(at) f = Test() sys.exitfunc = ex gtk.quit_add(gtk.main_level(), foo) gtk.main() open("exit_event", "wb") Not one of these succeeds, is there any low level way to detect the system shutdown? Google didn't find anything related to that. I guess there must be a way, am I right? :/

  • Linux - serial port read returning EAGAIN...

    - by Andre
Hello all! I am having some trouble reading some data from a serial port I opened the following way. I've used this instance of code plenty of times and all worked fine, but now, for some reason that I cant figure out, I am completely unable to read anything from the serial port. I am able to write and all is correctly received on the other end, but the replies (which are correctly sent) are never received (No, the cables are all ok ;) ) The code I used to open the serial port is the following: fd = open("/dev/ttyUSB0", O_RDWR | O_NONBLOCK | O_NOCTTY); if (fd == -1) { Aviso("Unable to open port"); return (fd); } else { //Get the current options for the port... bzero(&options, sizeof(options)); /* clear struct for new port settings */ tcgetattr(fd, &options); /*-- Set baud rate -------------------------------------------------------*/ if (cfsetispeed(&options, SerialBaudInterp(BaudRate))==-1) perror("On cfsetispeed:"); if (cfsetospeed(&options, SerialBaudInterp(BaudRate))==-1) perror("On cfsetospeed:"); //Enable the receiver and set local mode... options.c_cflag |= (CLOCAL | CREAD); options.c_cflag &= ~PARENB; /* Parity disabled */ options.c_cflag &= ~CSTOPB; options.c_cflag &= ~CSIZE; /* Mask the character size bits */ options.c_cflag |= SerialDataBitsInterp(8); /* CS8 - Selects 8 data bits */ options.c_cflag &= ~CRTSCTS; // disable hardware flow control options.c_iflag &= ~(IXON | IXOFF | IXANY); // disable XON XOFF (for transmit and receive) options.c_cflag |= CRTSCTS; /* enable hardware flow control */ options.c_cc[VMIN] = 0; //min carachters to be read options.c_cc[VTIME] = 0; //Time to wait for data (tenths of seconds) //Set the new options for the port... tcflush(fd, TCIFLUSH); if (tcsetattr(fd, TCSANOW, &options)==-1) { perror("On tcsetattr:"); } PortOpen[ComPort] = fd; } return PortOpen[ComPort]; After the port is initializeed I write some stuff to it through simple write command... int nc = write(hCom, txchar, n); where hCom is the file descriptor (and it's ok), and (as I said) this works. But... when I do a read afterwards, I get a "Resource Temporarily Unavailable" error from errno. I tested select to see when the file descriptor had something t read... but it always times out! I read data like this: ret = read(hCom, rxchar, n); and I always get an EAGAIN and I have no idea why. All help would be appreciated. Cheers

  • Detect user logout / shutdown in Python / GTK under Linux - SIGTERM/HUP not received

Google didn't find anything related to that. I guess there must be a way, am I right? :/ EDIT: OK, more stuff. I've created this shell script: #!/bin/bash trap test_term TERM trap test_hup HUP test_term(){ echo "teeeeeeeeeerm" >~/Desktop/term.info exit 0 } test_hup(){ echo "huuuuuuuuuuup" >~/Desktop/hup.info exit 1 } while [ true ] do echo "idle..." sleep 2 done And also created a .desktop file to run it: [Desktop Entry] Name=Kittens GenericName=Kittens Comment=Kitten Script Exec=kittens StartupNotify=true Terminal=false Encoding=UTF-8 Type=Application Categories=Network;GTK; Name[de_DE]=Kittens Normally this should create the term file on logout and the hup file when it has been started with &. But not on my System. GDM doesn't care about the script at all, when I relog, it's still running. I've also tried using shopt -s huponexit, with no success. EDIT2: Also here's some more information aboute the real code, the whole thing looks like this: Wrapper Script, that catches errors and restarts the programm -> Main Programm with GTK Mainloop -> Background Updater Thread The flow is like this: Start Wrapper -> enter restart loop while restarts < max: -> start program -> check return code -> write error to file or exit the wrapper on 0 Now on shutdown, start program return 1. That means either it did hanup or the parent process terminated, the main problem is to figure out which of these two did just happen. X Errors result in a 1 too. Trapping in the shellscript doesn't work. If you want to take a look at the actual code check it out over at GitHub: http://github.com/BonsaiDen/Atarashii

  • Need help modifying C++ application to accept continuous piped input in Linux

    - by GreeenGuru
The goal is to mine packet headers for URLs visited using tcpdump. So far, I can save a packet header to a file using: tcpdump "dst port 80 and tcp[13] & 0x08 = 8" -A -s 300 | tee -a ./Desktop/packets.txt And I've written a program to parse through the header and extract the URL when given the following command: cat ~/Desktop/packets.txt | ./packet-parser.exe But what I want to be able to do is pipe tcpdump directly into my program, which will then log the data: tcpdump "dst port 80 and tcp[13] & 0x08 = 8" -A -s 300 | ./packet-parser.exe Here is the script as it is. The question is: how do I need to change it to support continuous input from tcpdump? #include <boost/regex.hpp> #include <fstream> #include <cstdio> // Needed to define ios::app #include <string> #include <iostream> int main() { // Make sure to open the file in append mode std::ofstream file_out("/var/local/GreeenLogger/url.log", std::ios::app); if (not file_out) std::perror("/var/local/GreeenLogger/url.log"); else { std::string text; // Get multiple lines of input -- raw std::getline(std::cin, text, '\0'); const boost::regex pattern("GET (\\S+) HTTP.*?[\\r\\n]+Host: (\\S+)"); boost::smatch match_object; bool match = boost::regex_search(text, match_object, pattern); if(match) { std::string output; output = match_object[2] + match_object[1]; file_out << output << '\n'; std::cout << output << std::endl; } file_out.close(); } } Thank you ahead of time for the help!

  • Using terminal vs KDE in linux?

    - by Ke
Hi Im used to using nautilus within centos but have recently just got a VPS and quickly realising that using a KDE is unacceptable in this environment. Although I do find it so much quicker doing things like folder permissions in KDE rather than typing it all out in the terminal? Everyone I speak to says, use the terminal and I should learn this way as opposed to using the KDE, but theres certain things I just dont get How is it possible to make quick changes to scripts and viewing them in a browser etc , without a mouse or using KDE? and only using a terminal?? I am wondering how to develop websites just using the terminal??? How can it be quicker to type out/view permissions etc in the terminal when its instant and just a few clicks in the KDE? Any thoughts are much appreciated. I would love to understand the benefits but just cant seem to see them right now. Cheers Ke.

  • Linux, static lib referring to other static lib within an executable

    - by andras
Hello, I am creating an application, which consists of two static libs and an executable. Let's call the two static libs: libusefulclass.a libcore.a And the application: myapp libcore instantiates and uses the class defined in libusefulclass (let's call it UsefulClass) Now, if I link the application in the following way: g++ -m64 -Wl,-rpath,/usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-4.5.4/lib -o myapp src1.o src2.o srcN.o -lusefulclass -lcore The linker complains about the methods in libusefulclass not being found: undefined reference to `UsefulClass::foo()' etc. I found a workaround for this: If UsefulClass is also instantiated within the source files of the executable itself, the application is linked without any problems. My question is: is there a more clean way to make libcore refer to methods defined in libusefulclass, or static libs just cannot be linked against eachother? TIA P.S.: In case that matters: the application is being developed in C++ using Qt, but I feel this is not a Qt problem, but a library problem in general.

  • Change Cursor for Netbeans on Linux

    - by Daziplqa
Hi, I am recently have been successfully installed NetBean 6.8 on Ubuntu Box (10.04). But the problem is, NetBeans doesn't use the Gnome mouse Cursor by default. instead, It uses some freak mouse cursor that I hate! So, do you have any idea about how to change the cursor that appears inside netbeans.(I have looked inside tools options but without any output) Also I have did: $ grep -iR cursor * Binary file var/cache/all-resources.dat matches Binary file var/cache/all-layers.dat matches Binary file var/cache/index/s2/javascript/8/1/_0.cfs matches (note, I didn't talked here about how to change the cursor inside some Java program written in NetBeans) Thanks in advance.

  • Differnce between linux write and sendfile syscall

    - by JosiP
Hi Im programming webserver (C), which should send big files. My question is: What are the main differneces in two syscalls: write and sendfile. Does sendfile depends on size of socket system buffer ? I noticed that write often writes less then i requested. For example, if got many requests for one file: should i open it, copy into memory and use 'write', or maybe i can do 'sendfile' for each client ? thx in advance for all answers

  • Linux C/C++ : How to reload dynamic modules?

    - by Arman
Hi, Are there way to reload dynamic library? I am loading module by dlopen library: bool load_functions(){ std::string function_name="libfunction-factory.so"; void* handle = dlopen(function_name.c_str(), RTLD_NOW); //some initialization and usage // ''' // unload the library dlclose(handle); return true; } int main() { int i=0; for(;;) { cout<<"##prompt##"<<i++<<">"; if(std::cin.get()=='q') break; else { if(!load_functions()) std::cout<<"Failed to load Function Factory..."<<std::endl; } cout<<endl; } return 0; } after running I am editing library and trying to reload the library, but the new library does not load. Always the first loaded library is used. Are there way to force to reload library? Why dlclose does not unload library? Kind regards Arman.

  • How does symbol binding work for shared libraries in linux

    - by bbazso
When compiling a cpp program with g++ -O0 I noticed that my binary does not contain the symbol for the empty string (basic_string): _S_empty_rep_storage When I do compile this same program with -O2 I notice that the aforementioned symbol is indeed contained within the binary as follows (using nm on the bin): 00000000006029a0 V _ZNSs4_Rep20_S_empty_rep_storageE@@GLIBCXX_3.4 My application uses several .so (dynamic libraries) and when my aplication loads I notice that several of these .so files bind as follows (I set LD_DEBUG=all and ran my program): 28596: binding file /home/bbazso/usr/local/lib/mydynamiclib.so [0] to /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6 [0]: normal symbol `_ZNSs4_Rep20_S_empty_rep_storageE' [GLIBCXX_3.4] 28596: binding file /home/bbazso/usr/local/lib/mydynamiclib.so [0] to /home/bbazso/workspace/mytestapplication [0]: normal symbol `_ZNSs4_Rep20_S_empty_rep_storageE' [GLIBCXX_3.4] 28596: binding file /home/bbazso/workspace/mytestapplication [0] to /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6 [0]: normal symbol `_ZNSs4_Rep20_S_empty_rep_storageE' [GLIBCXX_3.4]** But I also noticed that one of my .so only binds as follows: 28087: binding file /home/bbazso/usr/local/lib/anotherdynamiclib.so [0] to /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6 [0]: normal symbol `_ZNSs4_Rep20_S_empty_rep_storageE' [GLIBCXX_3.4] but never binds to the binary (mytestapplication) as shown above for the mydynamiclib.so. So I was wondering what this actually means? Does this mean that anotherdynamiclib.so will use a different symbol for the empty string above than the rest of the application? I guess what I'm really asking is how does symbol binding work in the context of the example above? Thanks!

I have a ARM based machine with ubuntu distro on it and it often feeds me with this while running various commands: Please check that your locale settings: LANGUAGE = (unset), LC_ALL = (unset), LANG = "pl_PL.UTF-8" This is output of the locale command locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory LANG=pl_PL.UTF-8 LC_CTYPE="pl_PL.UTF-8" LC_NUMERIC="pl_PL.UTF-8" LC_TIME="pl_PL.UTF-8" LC_COLLATE="pl_PL.UTF-8" LC_MONETARY="pl_PL.UTF-8" LC_MESSAGES="pl_PL.UTF-8" LC_PAPER="pl_PL.UTF-8" LC_NAME="pl_PL.UTF-8" LC_ADDRESS="pl_PL.UTF-8" LC_TELEPHONE="pl_PL.UTF-8" LC_MEASUREMENT="pl_PL.UTF-8" LC_IDENTIFICATION="pl_PL.UTF-8" LC_ALL= What should I do to stop it from popping now and then and configure it properly for the aescznól [important characters of mine]?

  • Map /dev/bus/usb node to /sys node on Linux

    - by Cody Brocious
I'm using libusb to find and access a USB device, but once I get the information I need from there, I need to map it to a /sys node. This could be to the actual USB bus it's on, the /sys/bus/usb-serial node (which is where I'm going to get eventually), or effectively anywhere else since I can walk the tree from there. I can get to a /dev/bus/usb node easily enough, but I'm a bit lost from there. What would be the best route to perform this mapping?
