• How can I execute CGI files from PHP?

  I'm trying to make a web app that will manage my Mercurial repositories for me. I want it so that when I tell it to load repository X: Connect to a MySQL server and make sure X exists. Check if the user is allowed to access the repository. If above is true, get the location of X from a mysql server. Run a hgweb cgi script (python) containing the path of the repository. Here is the problem, I want to: take the hgweb script, modify it, and run it. But I do not want to: take the hgweb script, modify it, write it to a file and redirect there. I am using Apache to run the httpd process.

• Getting an unexpected "?" at the end of a Registry GetValue in C#

  Hi, I use the Registry class to manage values in the Registry on Windows Seven in C#. Registry.GetValue(...); But, I'm facing a curious behavior : Every time, the returned value is the correct one, but sometimes, it is followed by an unexpected "?" When I check the Registry, (regedit), the "?" doesn't exist. I really don't understand from where this question mark come from. Could someone help me please ? • View centric design with Django

  Hi! I'm relatively new to Django and I'm designing a website that primarily needs usability experience, speaking of optimized CSS, HTML5 and UI stuff. It's very easy to use Django for data/Model centric design. Just designing a couple of Python classes and ./manage.py syncdb - there's your Model. But I'm dealing with a significant amount of View centric challenges. (Different user classes, different tasks, different design challenges.) The official Django tutorial cursorily goes through using a "Template". Is there any Design centric guide for Django, or a set of Templates that are ready and useable? I don't want to start from scratch using JS, HTML5, Ajax and everything. From the Model layer perspective Django is very rapid and delivering a working base system. I wonder whether there's something like that for the Views.

• How can I break into the development business scene if I'm the new kid on the block?

  I'm about 1 semester short of graduating from college with my Systems Engineer degree. I've started my own software development company here in a country in South America last week, and so far I managed to land myself a nice account. I have to build a simple enough program that will take me 6-7weeks to complete and I'll charge 2000$. 40% up front and the rest on completion. While this is great and I'm really excited about my first project (Hell it's a landmark for any professional!), I'm already setting my eye on landing projects that will be visible for other companies to see. I've spoken with many people in my trade around town and it seems there are two companies that manage the big accounts with other small companies scrounging around for the scraps. How can I break this so called fellowship that is pretty much a monopoly here? Any and all suggestions will be massively appreciated.

• How to set Atomikos to not write to console logs?

  Atomikos is quite verbose when used. There seems to be lots of INFO messages (mostly irrelevant for me) that the transaction manager writes out to the console. The setting in the transaction.properties that is suppose to control the level of messaging com.atomikos.icatch.console_log_level does not seem to have any effect, since even when set to WARN (or ERROR) the INFO messages are still logged. Also the log4j settings for com.atomikos and atomikos seem to be ignored. Does anyone manage to turn off the INFO logs on the console with Atomikos?. How? Thanks Peter

• Objective-C : enum like Java (int values and many others for each enum)

  In Java, you can make an enum having multiples values. In objective-C, this cannot be done easily. I've read many pages about this but I didn't found anything satisfying that would allow me to use enums by a simple way and to keep the enum declaration and their different values in the same file. • Thread Proc for an instancable class?

  Basically I have a class and it is instincable (not static). Basically I want the class to be able to generate its own threads and manage its own stuff. I don't want to make a global callback for each instance I make, this doesnt seem clean and proper to me. What is the proper way of doing what I want. If I try to pass the threadproc to CreateThread and it is the proc from a class instance the compiler says I cannot do this. What is the best way of achieving what I want? Thanks

• Static Access To Multiple Instance Variable

  I have a singleton instance that is referenced throughout the project which works like a charm. It saves me the trouble from having to pass around an instance of the object to every little class in the project. However, now I need to manage multiple instances of the previous setup, which means that the singleton pattern breaks since each instance would need it's own singleton instance. What options are there to still maintain static access to the singleton? To be more specific, we have our game engine and several components and plugins reference the engine through a static property. Now our server needs to host multiple game instances each having their own engine, which means that on the server side the singleton pattern breaks. I'm trying to avoid all the classes having the engine in the constructor.

  Hey guys, For our webapp testing environment we're currently using watin with a bunch of unit tests, and we're looking to move to selenium and use more frameworks. We're currently looking at Selenium2 + Gallio + Xunit.net, However one of the things we're really looking to get around is compiled testcases. Ideally we want testcases that can be edited in VS with intellisense, but don't require re-compilling the assembly every single time we make a small change, Are there any frameworks likely to help with this issue? Are there any nice UI tools to help manage massive ammount of testcases? Ideally we want the testcase writing process to be simple so that more testers can aid in writing them. cheers

• Is there a way to programatically popup the "Microsoft Silverlight Configuration" dialog?

  I am building for Silverlight 4, and I handle MouseRightButtonDown events and build my own ContextMenu's (a class from the Silverlight Toolkit). I would like to add the classic "Silverlight" menu item to my menus, and give the user the familiar option of launching the "Microsoft Silverlight Configuration" dialog. This is the dialog lets users manage Updates, Webcams, Permissions, and Application Storage. So I need a way to programatically launch the dialog when the menu item is clicked. I can be done for Flash, and it would seem that Microsoft would want to encourage developers to support that option. Can it be done?

• JSF, actionlistener at facelets

  Hi there, I'm using JSF (Mojarra 1.2) with Richfaces (3.3.2) within some facelets which are used as portlets (I'm using the Jboss Portlet Bridge 2.0 here). Now I'm facing something strange: I've got an actionlistener on my <h:commandButton> which is triggered, when the button is clicked but when I simply reload the page, the action is executed everytime I load the page again. This happens only if I already triggered the action before. Is this behaviour normal? I should notice that Spring 2.5 is used to manage my beans, the mentioned beans are session-scope beans, maybe this is a interessting point?!

• setting up/installing/configuring nginx LEMP stack on fresh VPS server

  I need some help in settingup/installing and configuring nginx LEMP stack on a fresh new VPS i have. The specs of the CentOS 5.7 VPS are 2GB DDR3 ECC RAM(4GB burst), 1 core 1.5Ghz(3Ghz burst) and 100GB RAID 10 storage, unmetered bandwidth @ 100Mpbs all for a whopping $25/month(unbeatable, yeah i know :) Anyways i have followed this LEMP(will also need MySQL and PHP) stack guide on linode http://library.linode.com/lemp-guides/centos-5 but basically what i want is to be able to host multiple website on this webserver after everything is setup. I am used to using DirectAdmin control panel on other server and want to have things setup so i can host multiple websites...mostly wordpress and drupal themes. Lets say 10 websites on this nginx web server. So can someone please help me on what i need to do to take "full" advantage of nginx power and performance, while been able to easily manage these multiple websites (wordpress and drupal themes)? • Ruby Rack: startup and teardown operations (Tokyo Cabinet connection)

  I have built a pretty simple REST service in Sinatra, on Rack. It's backed by 3 Tokyo Cabinet/Table datastores, which have connections that need to be opened and closed. I have two model classes written in straight Ruby that currently simply connect, get or put what they need, and then disconnect. Obviously, this isn't going to work long-term. I also have some Rack middleware like Warden that rely on these model classes. What's the best way to manage opening and closing the connections? Rack doesn't provide startup/shutdown hooks as I'm aware. I thought about inserting a piece of middleware that provides reference to the TC/TT object in env, but then I'd have to pipe that through Sinatra to the models, which doesn't seem efficient either; and that would only get be a per-request connection to TC. I'd imagine that per-server-instance-lifecycle would be a more appropriate lifespan. Thanks!

  Hi guys, I'm considering Wordpress as my CMS platform for a client site I'm doing at the moment. However, I need to create a couple of custom 'modules'. One of these modules is a form that people will be able to complete and have a quote, and once submitted, in a special place in the Wordpress panel (like a menu or something), there will be a listing of all the submitted quotes (just fetching it from a table in my database). Another one is to manage a cafeteria menu, so the client can add a different meal to each day of the week. I know perfectly how to do this kind of things using some kind of MVC framework and doing it 'by-hand', but I'm just wondering if this would be possible to do with WP and if yes, what kind of tools I'll have to use. • How To Make NHibernate Automatically change an "Updated" column

  I am applying NHibernate to an existing project, where tables and columns are already defined and fixed. The database is MS-SQL-2008. NHibernate 2.1.2 Many tables have a column of type timestamp named "ReplicationID", and also a column of type datetime named "UpdatedDT". I understand I might be able to use the element of the mapping file to describe the "ReplicationID" column which will allow NHibernate to manage that column. Is it possible to make NHibernate automatically update the UpdatedDT column when the row is updated? I suppose I could try mapping the UpdatedDT property to be of type timestamp, but that have other side effects.

• Two windows fullscreen on two different screen.

  Hi! I'm actually working on an app to display an image onto a Dome. The dome projection system is constitued of two projector and a pc running a GentoO Linux and KDE, with nvidia TwinView system. Since here i've used SDL to display a fullscreen windows, and it display my app onto the two screen. But i just figured that i need to project two different images, one on each projector. That's why i search for a solution to display a fullscreen window on the first screen (projector) and another on the second. But SDL fullscreen just extend the window to the two screens. I can use any librairie (since it light and free, as i will wrap it into my small "API"), or change display setting. BTW it would be nice to have openGL support, since SDL manage only one window ^^"

• Controlling azure worker roles concurrency in multiple instance

  I have a simple work role in azure that does some data processing on an SQL azure database. The worker basically adds data from a 3rd party datasource to my database every 2 minutes. When I have two instances of the role, this obviously doubles up unnecessarily. I would like to have 2 instances for redundancy and the 99.95 uptime, but do not want them both processing at the same time as they will just duplicate the same job. Is there a standard pattern for this that I am missing? I know I could set flags in the database, but am hoping there is another easier or better way to manage this. Thanks

• Wordpress TinyMCE keeps it clean, how?

  I've noticed that the latest version of TinyMCE on Wordpress manages text in a very 'clean' way. Pasting from MS-Word it strips out all html text blocks, like <p>'s, and shows the text cleared of any odd formatting preserving only links, bolds and underlines. On top of that the source code format is very clear. No <br />'s everywhere. You only see \n's and the expected <strong><u><i> tags. I've been messing up with TinyMCE configuration files for some time with little success. I did manage to get all formatting removed. I can't, however, put TinyMCE to display the \n's as <br />'s lie Wordpress does it. Tried preformatted : true with no success whatsoever. Has anyone here been able to do it?   I have kind of a such scenario: Here i need to synchronize local server database with main DB server(example: computers in office are connected to office server and they use it like a local server, so that no sync is required.BUT computers in other office work with their local server too and we need synchronization between the offices though the main DB server.). As i see i cant use SQLCompact here. Is there a provider to do the server-to-server synchronization right from the client? If no can someone provide a sample of solution of how to manage such situation?

• Port C's fread(&struct,....) to Python

  Hey, I'm really struggling with this one. I have tried to sequentially map the data from Y[0][0] to Cr[MAX][MAX], even printed out the C struct in action but didn't manage to wrap my head around the method used to put the data in there. I've been struggling overnight with this and have to get back to the army tonight, so any immediate help is very welcome and appreciated. Thanks

• Any experience on Sitecore CMS using Windows Sharepoint Services?

  Hi guys, I plan to develop a solution based on Sitecore CMS which would allow the client company to manage their documents in a Sharepoint-fashion (versioning, diffs??). Of course, we're after limiting the number of licences required for the project, and the client doesn't yet have licences for MOSS, so we couldn't simply use the Sitecore Sharepoint Connector which from everything I read requires the MOSS installation, and won't work with bare WSS. From what I know Sitecore CMS doesn't version documents as such, but is there a possibility for a workaround? Ideally we'd work with Documents and Files in the same fashion as with normal pages, which enables DIFFs and stuff. Any ideas? Thanks, Marcin B

• jQuery Sortable + Droppable z-index problem

  I am having a probelm with the z-index of my sortable object not being above my droppable. If you visit http://clareshilland.unknowndomain.co.uk/. Press Ctrl + L to bring up the login screen. Enter the username clare and the password shilland. It will then load in the admin bar and if you click manage gallery. A pop down thumbnail view will appear with all the photos from that gallery. The issue is that when you drag the 'polaroids' from the grid to the delete area they are under the delete area. I tried putting the delete area inside the same div as the grid but it makes no difference, I just don't know what to do at this point so any help would be a massive help!

  I downloaded Git and GitX for mac and installed it. Now, just for fun, I want to know how I could obtain an repository from GitHub like http://github.com/zoul/Finch.git ?? For me all this Git stuff looks like I have a client and connect to a server in order to get some data from some repository. Like FTP, well not really. But similar. Just one problem: Where to enter that URL? Is there some field for that? Some hidden command? I did manage to create a new project / repository on my mac, but now I have an empty window and no option to suck down that code from GitHub.

• iPhone: custom UITableViewCell with Interface Builder -> how to release cell objects?

  The official documentation tells me I've to do these 3 things in order to manage the my memory for "nib objects" correctly. @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIUserInterfaceElementClass *anOutlet; "You should then either synthesize the corresponding accessor methods, or implement them according to the declaration, and (in iPhone OS) release the corresponding variable in dealloc." - (void)viewDidUnload { self.anOutlet = nil; [super viewDidUnload]; } That makes sense for a normal view. However, how am I gonna do that for a UITableView with custom UITableViewCells loaded through a .nib-file? There the IBOutlets are in MyCustomCell.h (inherited from UITableViewCell), but that is not the place where I load the nib and apply it to the cell instances, because that happens in MyTableView.m So do I still release the IBOutlets in the dealloc of MyCustomCell.m or do I have to do something in MyTableView.m? Also MyCustomCell.m doesn't have a - (void)viewDidUnload {} where I can set my IBOutlets to nil, while my MyTableView.m does.

• How to completely wipe rubygems along with rails etc

  Ok, so I decided I'd be cool and try to use Rails3 that's in beta. Then, things were getting hard to manage so I got rvm. I installed ruby 1.9.2-head in rvm and things were working, and then a computer restart later rails wouldn't start up. So I figured I'd just try running the system ruby and start rails in it. same error. Then, I uninstalled rails3 and got rails: no such file or directory type errors.. So now I'm royally screwed because rails2 is still installed but will not uninstall because of invisible dependencies, along with a lot of other random gems. How do I completely clear out all ruby gems and such so I can start anew?
