top and uptime get me the server load average for the last 1, 5 and 15 minutes but is there an easy way to get the average load of yesterday or any other day for that matter?
If a variable is expected to be fetched every minute, and it doesn't happen, the graph shows the last known value for all the timespan until the next known value.
The expected behavior for me is that the graph showed no line, or a line next to the zero, where there is no data.
How to achieve this with Zabbix?
How to configure ntop so I can get the amount of upload traffic sent through a certain port ?
I've added port in ntop/protocol.list, restarted ntop and after some time I've checked Summary - Traffic - TCP/UDP Traffic Port Distribution: Last Minute View, but data from that table is not too relevant.
I think there is much more about this ntop that I don't know (configuration, usage).

Spaces rarely returns focus to my last used window. Haven't been able to peg universally reproducible steps, but spend any time switching among spaces and windows and you'll come across this.
It often happens with Finder windows. I'm thinking this is because Mac OS X treats Finder as a single app, so bringing Finder forward in one space brings it forward in all spaces. Extremely annoying!
Anyone have a fix for this?
Is there a timeline for Gnome 3 development? When do we get hands on the first beta builds?
The only thing I know is that Gnome 3 is planned in place of Gnome 2.30. Last Gnome release was 2.26 in March 2009. Sticking to 6 month releases, 2.30 should arrive at March 2011. Is there some other date?
Problem
Since the last two days, my Lenovo R61 is giving me a "Fan Error" message during boot, after showing which, it powers down.
It does so for 3-4 boot attempts, and after a bit of tapping and such human treatment, in the 6th or so attempt, it luckily starts.
Question
Why is this happening ?
How do I fix it ?
Thanks in Advance. :)
I have a IEEE 1394 card that I have placed in one of the PCI slots of my Windows 7 PC. I have moved to Windows just last week and Windows is not detecting this card. It is not listed in the Devide Manager. Earlier when I used Fedora 12, I was able to use this interface for capturing videos from my DV Camera.
The manufacturer is Tech-Com, which has not provided a driver CD for this.
What can I possibly try?
I'm looking for a new WiFi router, and one key feature for me is WOL. Seems like many routers won't do this w/ factory firmware.
Given my last router (Asus WL-520g) turned into a disco-brick couple hours after flashed DD-WRT I'd prefer if the new one supported WOL (Wake on LAN) out of the box.
Other required features would be:
DynDNS service support
Port forwarding
NAT loopback
so I can access services running in my own network using dyndns hostname or public IP w/o getting too old (for example DIR-615 with factory firmware lets you wait literally minutes)
So I'm thinking about building myself a new rig. I want to go for value more than anything, but I also want to get myself a nice enough setup that I can play the latest games considerably well. Last time I built a computer I skimped on the power supply and it bit me big time later on.
I know the ideal answer is "don't skimp on anything", but are there are any parts of a computer you can do relatively well without having a particularly "good" component?
The last week or so I have noticed an odd thing. When I turn on my monitor, my browser windows are all half the size they were when I turned it off. Sometimes when I turn it on the taskbar is even half way up the screen for a few moments, as if turning the monitor on and off was forcing it to change the resolution. I use firefox, running windows 7.
I use Ubuntu 9.10 and I would like to be able to see my bash history for more than one terminal sessions. I.e. my last 200 commands or so, even if I have been logged out in between.
When I use the history I just see all commands from my actual terminal session. How can I see more command history from Bash? Is there any specific settings for bash that I should change from the default values in Ubuntu?

I have an old HP parallel port printer that is not supported by Vista. No drivers I've found online work with it.
As a last ditch effort, I was hoping to find some generic postscript drivers for Vista x64 in the hopes that the printer will accept those commands.
Does anyone know where I could come by such drivers?
I dunno when I deleted this file (its an avi), its been in the trash for awhile. Today I went to empty the trash and this one file can't claims to be in use. But I have restarted, shut down my mac several times, I've also used my media player several times since last using that file.
So I guess Im trying to find out how to find whats using the file or at least making it appear as such. So I can go about deleting it finally.
I'm working on a trouble shooting document for some desktop software that runs in Java. One of the last resort steps is to completely uninstall and reinstall the Java runtime. In Windows XP this can be done via Add/Remove Programs. Is there something equivalent on OSX? Or does reinstalling the runtime overwrite the current version?
Hello everyone
I try to use APIKit
http://ericasadun.com/2009/12/apikit-goes-beta/

apiscanner should run as
apiscanner ~/Desktop/MyPath/myapp.app
I used command 'cd' go to the directory where apiscanner is.
But if I call apiscanner ~/Desktop/MyPath/MyApp.app
Last login: Sun Jun 13 07:22:07 on ttys002
unknown required load command 0x80000022
Trace/BPT trap
logout
Even I copy file 'apiscanner' and 'doit' to MyPath, the execute

I think there is somethin wrong when I run apiscanner under mac osx

I dont use on On Access AV scanner, I just use Clamwin. My download manager invokes a scan on any files I download, and I dont share files. Apart from scheduling a system scan every week (seems an awful waste of resources) what other ways can I use Clamwin to keep your PC virus free.
Ideas such as:
scan files in open folders,
adaptive batch scripts that scan most frequently used folders / last used folders
things like that
With the explosion of the Social Web in the last couple of years, I find myself producing more and more narcissistic, inane, self congratulatory content all over the place. What do you use to consolidate your various streams of awesomeness into a single font of wisdom?
So, my windows laptop is on its last legs and I'm thinking of shelling out for a Macbook Pro. However, I do some (but not a lot) of ASP.NET development, and so would need to install Visual Studio of some version using something like VMWare Fusion.
Has anyone had any success doing this? I know that the sensible thing to do would be to take the money that I'd spend on a MBP and get a decent laptop, but since when is sensible fun?
I have a network of PCs and some Macs. I have security problems with the Macs; they can auto login on the server when I want it to ask for a user name and password. Anyone can just get on the computer and sign into the last person who was using it. Any help?

Anyone else experiencing high rates of Linux server crashes during a leap second day?
On last Saturday(31 June 2012), Java applications suddenly started to use 100% CPU like described in this on some servers. The problem was recovered after restarted tomcat. It's similar to Java leap second bug but it happened during day not midnight. The time was around 17:35(GMT+9) on 31 June. Can cause of this problem be leap second?
I'm having a strange new issue with PostgreSQL. After the last two reboots it hasn't started properly, and that was the error in the log (it occurs early enough in the startup process to not say anything in Postgres' own logs.) Starting it manually via the Services window worked fine both times. Any clues?
For the last few months, I've been using a server on my home network for basic backups and hosting some small websites. Up until this past week, I've been using Comcast (cable) as an ISP and now that I've moved into an apartment, I'm using AT&T. (DSL)
I've set up dynamic DNS and I can verify it works externally. However, I can't seem to access the public address from within the local network. Is there something DSL does differently from Cable that makes this frustration possible?
