  • Cocoa NSWindow not updating with data

    - by Matt S.
    I have an NSWindow that shows up when you click either of two items (both from an NSTableView). I have a setter method that tells the window what information to display. This all works perfectly, until it comes time to display the data in the window. If I cause the window to display from one tableview, then try to have it display the new data from another it doesn't do it, it keeps the old data on. I am using the exact same method to get and display the data from both possible ways to have the window show up, and the data is changing correctly. To display the window I'm using [mywindow makeKeyAndOrderFront:self];

  • Testing if a UI element is hidden in an OCUnit test

    - by Logan Serman
    I have a button that is hidden under certain circumstances that I wish to test. The button is hidden with [theButton setHidden: YES] in the viewDidLoad method if it is appropriate. For simplicity, lets say that the button is hidden when the buttonIsHidden property is set to true in the view controller. Right now I am trying the following: self.viewController = [[ViewController alloc] init]; self.viewController.buttonIsHidden = YES; [self.viewController loadView]; UIButton *theButton = [...] // function I wrote to retrieve the button based on it's touch up inside action if (theButton) { NSLog(@"%c", theButton.hidden); return (theButton.hidden == true) } return NO; It looks like the hidden property is not what it should be, the NSLog lines from the above code are blank. But, if I output another property like the height, it outputs the correct value so I know it is getting the right button. How do I access the hidden property of the button in this case?

  • Am I allowed to subclass UIWebView?

    - by Raja.Integrass
    I just want to clear this up once and for all, is it ok to subclass a UIWebView? Will I ever have to be nervous about apple rejecting the app because of a UIWebView subclass? The documentation states: Subclassing Notes The UIWebView class should not be subclassed. But at the same time Apple contradicts itself with this WWDC video: https://developer.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2011/?id=511#rich-text-editing-in-safari-on-ios In slide 41 they specifically talk about subclassing a UIWebView Thanks in advance!

  • Initializing Detail View from nib with parameters passed from Root View

    - by culov
    I'm have a map view with a number of annotations on it... once the callout is clicked, i need to pass several parameters to the DetailViewController, so ive been trying to do this through the constructor. I've debugged a bit and discovered that the arguments are being passed properly and are being received as expected within the constructor, but for some reason whenever I try to change the values of the IBOutlets I've positioned in the nib, it never has an effect. Here's what im passing (btw, im getting a "No initWithNibName : bundle : header' method found" warning at this line): DetailViewController *dvc = [[DetailViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"DetailViewController" bundle:nil header:headerText]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:dvc animated:YES]; Now heres my constructor: - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil header:(UILabel*)headerLabel { if ((self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil])) { self.headerTextView = headerLabel; NSLog(@"header:%@", headerLabel.text); } return self; } Once again, the problem is that headerLabel.text is printed properly in the console, but the line self.headerTextView = headerLabel; doesnt seem to be doing what I want it to do. Thanks!

  • Making a circular NSSlide look and behave like in GarageBand

    - by Koning Baard
    I am new to drawing with Cocoa, and I am making some software which will have sliders similar to these found in GarageBand: These look beautiful and can be controld by moving the mouse up and down. Can you help me with customizing NSSliders by subclassing them, so I can make them look and behave exactly as in GarageBand? Thanks. I have one image for the knob which should be rotated as they do not need to be in 3D .

  • Create swipe controlled simple flipbook style animation in ObjC

    - by eco_bach
    Hi I am a beginner in Obj C development, though quite experienced (over 10 years) with other ECMAscript based languages and OOP development. I want to build a simple flipbook style animation, controlled through swiping motion. I'm sure extremely simple for any advanced ObjC coders. Can anyone with extensive ObjC-CocoaTouch experience give me some higher level recommendations? ie, 1 -general application design, should I start with a simple view based application, or navigation based or? 2 -should I use 3rd party animation frameworks such as Cocos2D, or stick with built in classes and methods? 3 -if using built in methods, classes, what is the recommended way of achieving a animation, that will be controlled via swipe and touch gestures? 4 -I want to eventually have multiple 'flipbooks' that I can 'instantly' swap with one another, ie to give the net effect of an object changing color, etc, but not sure how to approach this from a memory management point of view, related to #1 above Except for point 3 above, I'm not expecting any actual code examples. Just general guidelines to follow and perhaps, what are some next steps I should take in my goal as an ObjC code samurai.

  • Parsing a simple XML from string in Cocoa?

    - by Nick Brooks
    I have a simple XML and I need to get the first 'id' from puid-list. I found lots of examples but none of them quite do that because of the namespace. How do get the id out as an NSString? <genpuid songs="1" xmlns:mip="http://musicip.com/ns/mip-1.0#"> <track file="/htdocs/test.mp3" puid="0c9f2f0e-e72a-c461-9b9a-e18e8964ca20"> <puid-list> <puid id="0c9f2f0e-e72a-c461-9b9a-e18e8964ca20"/> </puid-list> </track> </genpuid>

  • iPhone: App crashes when I click on a cell in table view.

    - by Jack Griffiths
    Hi there, Compiling my application works—everything is fine. The only errors I get are by deprecated functions (setText). The only problem is now, is that when I tap on a cell in my table, the app crashes, even though it's meant to push to the next view in the stack. Any solutions are appreciated, if you need any code, just ask. Also, how can I only make sure that one cell goes to only one view? For example: When I tap on CSS, it takes me to a new table with different levels of CSS. WHen I tap on an item in that new view, it comes up with an article on what I just selected. Regards, Jack

  • Generating a Grid of NSTextField Objects From NSDictionary Items

    - by SteveStifler
    I'm trying to create an vocabulary study application using Obj-C and the Cocoa frameworks. I have about two week's experience in both areas and have reached an edge of my current knowledge. Here's where I'm stuck. When I press a checkbox, a corresponding plist is loaded into memory as an NSDictionary. I want to generate a "Label: Textfield" pair for each key:value pair, where the Label is the key. When the text typed into the Textfield matches the key's value, I want the Label's text to turn green. So how would I generate this grid, and once generated, how would I make the text green upon correct input? Thanks!

  • Memory leak when declaring NSString from ABRecordCopyValue

    - by Ben Thompson
    I am using the following line of code... NSString *clientFirstName = (NSString *)ABRecordCopyValue(person, kABPersonFirstNameProperty); The 'analyse' feature on Xcode is saying that this giving rise to a potential memory leak. I am not releasing clientFirstName at all as I have neither alloc or retain'd it. However, I am conscious that ABRecordCopyValue may not be returning an object as say a command like [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:someArray] would which might mean I am indeed creating a new object that I control and must release. Keen to hear thoughts...

  • iOS: click counter for row in tableview

    - by roger.arliner21
    I am developing and tableView in which in each row I have to display the click counter and row number.Each cell must have an initial click counter value of 0 when application is initialized. Then increment the click counter value within a cell whenever a user clicks on the cell. I have take 26 fixed rows. I have taken tableData.plist file as in the attached image. I am initializing the self.dataArray with the plist . Now I want to do implementation in the didSelectRowAtIndexPath delegate method,if any row is tapped that row's click counter should increment. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"tableData" ofType:@"plist"]; self.dataArray = [NSMutableArray arrayWithContentsOfFile:path];//array initialized with plist } - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { return [self.dataArray count]; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *kCustomCellID = @"MyCellID"; UILabel *label1 = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(160.0f, 2.0f, 30.0f, 20.0f)]; UILabel *label2 = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(160.0f, 24.0f, 30.0f, 30.0f)]; label2.textColor = [UIColor grayColor]; UITableViewCell *cell = (UITableViewCell *)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:kCustomCellID]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:kCustomCellID] autorelease]; cell.selectionStyle = UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone; } if([self.dataArray count]>indexPath.row) { label1.text = [[self.dataArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:@"Lable1"]; label2.text =[[self.dataArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:@"Lable2"]; } else { label1.text = @""; label2.text =@""; } [cell.contentView addSubview:label1]; [cell.contentView addSubview:label2]; [label1 release]; [label2 release]; return cell; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark Table view delegate - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { //implementation for row counter incrementer. }

  • Core Data confusion: fetch without tableview.

    - by Mr. McPepperNuts
    I have completed and reproduced Core Data tutorials using a tableview to display contents. However, I want to access an Entity through a fetch on a view without a tableview. I used the following fetch code, but the count returned is always 0. The data exists when the database is opened using SQLite tools. NSManagedObject *entryObj; XYZDelegate *appDelegate = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext = appDelegate.managedObjectContext; NSFetchRequest *request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Quote" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"id" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:sortDescriptor, nil]; [request setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; [request setEntity: entity]; NSArray *results = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:nil]; if (results == nil) { NSLog(@"No results found"); entryObj = nil; }else { NSLog(@"results %d", [results count]); } [request release]; [sortDescriptors release]; count returned is always 0; it should be 5. Can anyone point me to a reference or tutorial regarding creating a controller not to be used with a tableview.

  • How can I check the content of the arrays? Parsing XML file with ObjectiveC

    - by skiria
    I have 3 classes- video { nameVideo, id, description, user... } topic {nameTopic, topicID, NSMutableArray videos; } category {nameCategory, categoryID, NSMUtableArray topics} And then in my app delegate I defined- NSMutableArray categories; I parse an XML file with this code. I try the arrays hierachy, and i think that i don't add any object on the arrays. How can I check it? What's wrong? • Why does SQLite not bring back any results from my database

    - by tigermain
    This is my first SQLite based iPhone app and I am trying to get it to read a menu hierarchy from my database. The database appears to be registered fine as the compiled statement doesnt error (tried putting in valid table name to test) but for some reason sqlite3_step(compiledStmt) doesnt ever equal SQLITE_ROW as if to suggest there is no data in there; which there is. sqlite3 *database; menu = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; if (sqlite3_open([databasePath UTF8String], &database) == SQLITE_OK) { const char *sqlStmt = "SELECT * FROM Menu"; sqlite3_stmt *compiledStmt; if (sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, sqlStmt, -1, &compiledStmt, NULL) == SQLITE_OK) { while (sqlite3_step(compiledStmt) == SQLITE_ROW) { NSString *aTitle = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(compiledStmt, 1)]; MenuItem *menuItem = [[MenuItem alloc] init]; menuItem.title = aTitle; [menu addObject:menuItem]; [menuItem release]; } } else { NSLog(@"There is an error with the SQL Statement"); } sqlite3_finalize(compiledStmt); } sqlite3_close(database);

  • Distinct Value Array for View Controller Index Using Core Data

    - by b.dot
    Hi, I'm trying to create an index representing the first letter value of each record in a Core Data store to be used in a table view controller. I'm using a snippet of the code from Apple's documentation. I would simply like to produce an array or dictionary of distinct values as the result. My store already has the character defined within each record object. Questions: 1) I'm having a problem understanding NSDictionaryResultType. Where does the resulting dictionary object get received so that I can assign it's keys to the view controller? The code seems to only return an array. 2) If I include the line containing NSDictionaryResultType, I get no returns. 3) I realize that I could do this in a loop, but I'm hoping this will work. Thanks! NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"People" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; NSFetchRequest *request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [request setEntity:entity]; [request setResultType:NSDictionaryResultType]; // This line causes no no results. [request setReturnsDistinctResults:YES]; [request setPropertiesToFetch :[NSArray arrayWithObject:@"alphabetIndex"]]; NSError *error; NSArray *objects = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:&error];
