  • FillRect won't draw anything

    - by kaykun
    I'm trying to create a simple window in Win32 and draw a rectangle in it, but for some reason FillRect isn't working for me. Here's my source: #include <windows.h> #include "resource.h" RECT rect; LRESULT CALLBACK WndProc(HWND hWnd, UINT msg, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { static PAINTSTRUCT ps; static HDC hDC; switch(msg) { case WM_PAINT: hDC = BeginPaint(hWnd, &ps); FillRect(hDC, &rect, (HBRUSH)(COLOR_WINDOW+1)); EndPaint(hWnd, &ps); break; case WM_CLOSE: DestroyWindow(hWnd); break; case WM_DESTROY: PostQuitMessage(0); break; default: return DefWindowProc(hWnd, msg, wParam, lParam); } return 0; } int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { WNDCLASSEX wc; HWND hWnd; MSG msg; rect.left = 0; rect.right = 0; rect.top = 100; rect.bottom = 100; wc.cbSize = sizeof(WNDCLASSEX); wc.style = 0; wc.lpfnWndProc = WndProc; wc.cbClsExtra = 0; wc.cbWndExtra = 0; wc.hInstance = hInstance; wc.hIcon = LoadIcon(NULL, IDI_APPLICATION); wc.hCursor = LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW); wc.hbrBackground = (HBRUSH)(COLOR_ACTIVEBORDER+1); wc.lpszMenuName = MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDR_MAIN_MENU); wc.lpszClassName = "Main"; wc.hIconSm = LoadIcon(NULL, IDI_APPLICATION); RegisterClassEx(&wc); hWnd = CreateWindowEx(NULL, "Main", "Main", WS_SYSMENU | WS_MINIMIZEBOX, CW_USEDEFAULT, CW_USEDEFAULT, 240, 360, NULL, NULL, hInstance, NULL); ShowWindow(hWnd, nCmdShow); UpdateWindow(hWnd); while(GetMessage(&msg, NULL, 0, 0) > 0) { TranslateMessage(&msg); DispatchMessage(&msg); } return msg.wParam; } Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong in my code? Thanks in advance

  • WatiN screenshot saver

    - by Brian Schroer
    In addition to my automated unit, system and integration tests for ASP.NET projects, I like to give my customers something pretty that they can look at and visually see that the web site is behaving properly. I use the Gallio test runner to produce a pretty HTML report, and WatiN (Web Application Testing In .NET) to test the UI and create screenshots. I have a couple of issues with WatiN’s “CaptureWebPageToFile” method, though: It blew up the first (and only) time I tried it, possibly because… It scrolls down to capture the entire web page (I tried it on a very long page), and I usually don’t need that Also, sometimes I don’t need a picture of the whole browser window - I just want a picture of the element that I'm testing (for example, proving that a button has the correct caption). I wrote a WatiN screenshot saver helper class with these methods: SaveBrowserWindowScreenshot(Watin.Core.IE ie)  / SaveBrowserWindowScreenshot(Watin.Core.Element element) saves a screenshot of the browser window SaveBrowserWindowScreenshotWithHighlight(Watin.Core.Element element) saves a screenshot of the browser window, with the specified element scrolled into view and highlighted SaveElementScreenshot(Watin.Core.Element element) saves a picture of only the specified element The element highlighting improves on the built-in WatiN method (which just gives the element a yellow background, and makes the element pretty much unreadable when you have a light foreground color) by adding the ability to specify a HighlightCssClassName that points to a style in your site’s stylesheet. This code is specifically for testing with Internet Explorer (‘cause that’s what I have to test with at work), but you’re welcome to take it and do with it what you want… using System; using System.Drawing; using System.Drawing.Imaging; using System.IO; using System.Reflection; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; using System.Text; using System.Threading; using SHDocVw; using WatiN.Core; using mshtml; namespace BrianSchroer.TestHelpers { public static class WatinScreenshotSaver { public static void SaveBrowserWindowScreenshotWithHighlight (Element element, string screenshotName) { HighlightElement(element, true); SaveBrowserWindowScreenshot(element, screenshotName); HighlightElement(element, false); } public static void SaveBrowserWindowScreenshotWithHighlight(Element element) { HighlightElement(element, true); SaveBrowserWindowScreenshot(element); HighlightElement(element, false); } public static void SaveBrowserWindowScreenshot(Element element, string screenshotName) { SaveScreenshot(GetIe(element), screenshotName, SaveBitmapForCallbackArgs); } public static void SaveBrowserWindowScreenshot(Element element) { SaveScreenshot(GetIe(element), null, SaveBitmapForCallbackArgs); } public static void SaveBrowserWindowScreenshot(IE ie, string screenshotName) { SaveScreenshot(ie, screenshotName, SaveBitmapForCallbackArgs); } public static void SaveBrowserWindowScreenshot(IE ie) { SaveScreenshot(ie, null, SaveBitmapForCallbackArgs); } public static void SaveElementScreenshot(Element element, string screenshotName) { // TODO: Figure out how to get browser window "chrome" size and not have to go to full screen: var iex = (InternetExplorerClass) GetIe(element).InternetExplorer; bool fullScreen = iex.FullScreen; if (!fullScreen) iex.FullScreen = true; ScrollIntoView(element); SaveScreenshot(GetIe(element), screenshotName, args => SaveElementBitmapForCallbackArgs(element, args)); iex.FullScreen = fullScreen; } public static void SaveElementScreenshot(Element element) { SaveElementScreenshot(element, null); } private static void SaveScreenshot(IE browser, string screenshotName, Action<ScreenshotCallbackArgs> screenshotCallback) { string fileName = string.Format("{0:000}{1}{2}.jpg", ++_screenshotCount, (string.IsNullOrEmpty(screenshotName)) ? • Silverlight for Windows Embedded Tutorial (step 5 and a bit of Windows Phone 7)

    - by Valter Minute
    If you haven’t spent the last week in the middle of the Sahara desert or traveling on a sled in the north pole area you should have heard something about the launch of Windows Phone 7 Series (or Windows Phone Series 7, or Windows Series Phone 7 or something like that). Even if you are in the middle of the desert or somewhere around the north pole you may have been reached by the news, since it seems that WP7S (using the full name will kill my available bandwidth!) is generating a lot of buzz in the development and IT communities. One of the most important aspects of this new platform is that it will be programmed using a new set of tools and frameworks, completely different from the ones used on older releases of Windows Mobile (or SmartPhone, or PocketPC or whatever…). WP7S applications can be developed using Silverlight or XNA. If you want to learn something more about WP7S development you can download the preview of Charles Petzold’s book about it: http://www.charlespetzold.com/phone/index.html Charles Petzold is also the author of “Programming Windows”, the first book I ever read about programming on Windows (it was Windows 3.0 at that time!). The fact that even I was able to learn how to develop Windows application is a proof of the quality of Petzold’s work. This book is up to his standards and the 150pages preview is already rich in technical contents without being boring or complicated to understand. I may be able to become a Windows Phone developer thanks to mr. Petzold. Mr. Petzold uses some nice samples to introduce the basic concepts of Silverlight development on WP7S. On this new platform you’ll use managed code to develop your application, so those samples can’t be ported on Windows CE R3 as they are, but I would like to take one of the first samples (called “SilverlightTapHello1”) and adapt it to Silverlight for Windows Embedded to show that even plain old native code can be used to develop “cool” user interfaces! The sample shows the standard WP7S title header and a textbox with an hello world message inside it. When the user touches the textbox, it will change its color. When the user touches the background (Grid) behind it, its default color (plain old White) will be restored. Let’s see how we can implement the same features on our embedded device! I took the XAML code of the sample (you can download the book samples here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/D/B/1DB49641-3956-41F1-BAFA-A021673C709E/CodeSamples_DRAFTPreview_ProgrammingWindowsPhone7Series.zip) and changed it a little bit to remove references to WP7S or managed runtime. If you compare the resulting files you will see that I was able to keep all the resources inside the App.xaml files and the structure of  MainPage.XAML almost intact. This is the Silverlight for Windows Embedded version of MainPage.XAML: <UserControl x:Class="SilverlightTapHello1.MainPage" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:phoneNavigation="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Phone.Controls;assembly=Microsoft.Phone.Controls.Navigation" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignWidth="480" d:DesignHeight="800" FontFamily="{StaticResource PhoneFontFamilyNormal}" FontSize="{StaticResource PhoneFontSizeNormal}" Foreground="{StaticResource PhoneForegroundBrush}" Width="640" Height="480">   <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="{StaticResource PhoneBackgroundBrush}"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="*"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions>   <!--TitleGrid is the name of the application and page title--> <Grid x:Name="TitleGrid" Grid.Row="0"> <TextBlock Text="SILVERLIGHT TAP HELLO #1" x:Name="textBlockPageTitle" Style="{StaticResource PhoneTextPageTitle1Style}"/> <TextBlock Text="main page" x:Name="textBlockListTitle" Style="{StaticResource PhoneTextPageTitle2Style}"/> </Grid>   <!--ContentGrid is empty. Place new content here--> <Grid x:Name="ContentGrid" Grid.Row="1" MouseLeftButtonDown="ContentGrid_MouseButtonDown" Background="{StaticResource PhoneBackgroundBrush}"> <TextBlock x:Name="TextBlock" Text="Hello, Silverlight for Windows Embedded!" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center" /> </Grid> </Grid> </UserControl> If you compare it to the WP7S sample (not reported here to avoid any copyright issue) you’ll notice that I had to replace the original phoneNavigation:PhoneApplicationPage with UserControl as the root node. This make sense because there is not support for phone applications on CE 6. I also had to specify width and height of my main page (on the WP7S device this will be adjusted by the OS) and I had to replace the multi-touch event handler with the MouseLeftButtonDown event (no multitouch support for Windows CE R3, still). I also changed the hello message, of course. I used XAML2CPP to generate the boring part of our application and then added the initialization code to WinMain: int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPTSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { if (!XamlRuntimeInitialize()) return -1;   HRESULT retcode;   IXRApplicationPtr app; if (FAILED(retcode=GetXRApplicationInstance(&app))) return -1; XRXamlSource dictsrc;   dictsrc.SetResource(hInstance,TEXT("XAML"),IDR_XAML_App);   if (FAILED(retcode=app->LoadResourceDictionary(&dictsrc,NULL))) return -1;   MainPage page;   if (FAILED(page.Init(hInstance,app))) return -1;   UINT exitcode;   if (FAILED(page.GetVisualHost()->StartDialog(&exitcode))) return -1;   return exitcode; }   You may have noticed that there is something different from the previous samples. I added the code to load a resource dictionary. Resources are an important feature of XAML that allows you to define some values that could be replaced inside any XAML file loaded by the runtime. You can use resources to define custom styles for your fonts, backgrounds, controls etc. and to support internationalization, by providing different strings for different languages. The rest of our WinMain isn’t that different. It creates an instances of our MainPage object and displays it. The MainPage class implements an event handler for the MouseLeftButtonDown event of the ContentGrid: class MainPage : public TMainPage<MainPage> { public:   HRESULT ContentGrid_MouseButtonDown(IXRDependencyObject* source,XRMouseButtonEventArgs* args) { HRESULT retcode; IXRSolidColorBrushPtr brush; IXRApplicationPtr app;   if (FAILED(retcode=GetXRApplicationInstance(&app))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=app->CreateObject(IID_IXRSolidColorBrush,&brush))) return retcode;   COLORREF color=RGBA(0xff,0xff,0xff,0xff);   if (args->pOriginalSource==TextBlock) color=RGBA(rand()&0xFF,rand()&0xFF,rand()&0xFF,0xFF);   if (FAILED(retcode=brush->SetColor(color))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=TextBlock->SetForeground(brush))) return retcode; return S_OK; } }; As you can see this event is generated when a used clicks inside the grid or inside one of the objects it contains. Since our TextBlock is inside the grid, we don’t need to provide an event handler for its MouseLeftButtonDown event. We can just use the pOriginalSource member of the event arguments to check if the event was generated inside the textblock. If the event was generated inside the grid we create a white brush,if it’s inside the textblock we create some randomly colored brush. Notice that we need to use the RGBA macro to create colors, specifying also a transparency value for them. If we use the RGB macro the resulting color will have its Alpha channel set to zero and will be transparent. Using the SetForeground method we can change the color of our control. You can compare this to the managed code that you can find at page 40-41 of Petzold’s preview book and you’ll see that the native version isn’t much more complex than the managed one. As usual you can download the full code of the sample here: http://cid-9b7b0aefe3514dc5.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/SilverlightTapHello1.zip And remember to pre-order Charles Petzold’s “Programming Windows Phone 7 series”, I bet it will be a best-seller! • Applications: How to create a custom dialog box for Windows Mobile 6 (native)

    - by TechTwaddle
    Ashraf, on the MSDN forum, asks, “Is there a way to make a default choice for the messagebox that happens after a period of time if the user doesn't choose (Clicked ) Yes or No buttons.” To elaborate, the requirement is to show a message box to the user with certain options to select, and if the user does not respond within a predefined time limit (say 8 seconds) then the message box must dismiss itself and select a default option. Now such a functionality is not available with the MessageBox() api, you will have to write your own custom dialog box. Surely, creating a dialog box is quite a simple task using the DialogBox() api, and we have been creating full screen dialog boxes all the while. So how will this custom message box be any different? It’s not much different from a regular dialog box except for a few changes in its properties. First, it has a title bar but no buttons on the title bar (no ‘x’ or ‘ok’ button on the title bar), it doesn’t occupy full screen and it contains the controls that you put into it, thus justifying the title ‘custom’. So in this post we create a custom dialog box with two buttons, ‘Black’ and ‘White’. The user is given 8 seconds to select one of those colours, if the user doesn’t make a selection in 8 seconds, the default option ‘Black’ is selected. Before going into the implementation here is a video of how the dialog box works; Custom dialog box To start off, add a new dialog resource into your application, size it appropriately and add whatever controls you need to the dialog. In my case, I added two static text labels and two buttons, as below; Now we need to write up the window procedure for this dialog, here is the complete function; BOOL CALLBACK CustomDialogProc(HWND hDlg, UINT uMessage, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) {     int wmID, wmEvent;     PAINTSTRUCT ps;     HDC hdc;     static int timeCount = 0;     switch(uMessage)     {         case WM_INITDIALOG:             {                 SHINITDLGINFO shidi;                 memset(&shidi, 0, sizeof(shidi));                 shidi.dwMask = SHIDIM_FLAGS;                 //shidi.dwFlags = SHIDIF_DONEBUTTON | SHIDIF_SIPDOWN | SHIDIF_SIZEDLGFULLSCREEN | SHIDIF_EMPTYMENU;                 shidi.dwFlags = SHIDIF_SIPDOWN | SHIDIF_EMPTYMENU;                 shidi.hDlg = hDlg;                 SHInitDialog(&shidi);                 SHDoneButton(hDlg, SHDB_HIDE);                 timeCount = 0;                 SetWindowText(GetDlgItem(hDlg, IDC_STATIC_TIME_REMAINING), L"Time remaining: 8 second(s)");                 SetTimer(hDlg, MY_TIMER, 1000, NULL);             }             return TRUE;         case WM_COMMAND:             {                 wmID = LOWORD(wParam);                 wmEvent = HIWORD(wParam);                 switch(wmID)                 {                     case IDC_BUTTON_BLACK:                         KillTimer(hDlg, MY_TIMER);                         EndDialog(hDlg, IDC_BUTTON_BLACK);                         break;                     case IDC_BUTTON_WHITE:                         KillTimer(hDlg, MY_TIMER);                         EndDialog(hDlg, IDC_BUTTON_WHITE);                         break;                 }             }             break;         case WM_TIMER:             {                 if (wParam == MY_TIMER)                 {                     WCHAR wszText[128];                     memset(&wszText, 0, sizeof(wszText));                     timeCount++;                     //8 seconds are over, dismiss the dialog, select def value                     if (timeCount >= 8)                     {                         KillTimer(hDlg, MY_TIMER);                         EndDialog(hDlg, IDC_BUTTON_BLACK_DEF);                     }                     wsprintf(wszText, L"Time remaining: %d second(s)", 8-timeCount);                     SetWindowText(GetDlgItem(hDlg, IDC_STATIC_TIME_REMAINING), wszText);                     UpdateWindow(GetDlgItem(hDlg, IDC_STATIC_TIME_REMAINING));                 }             }             break;         case WM_PAINT:             {                 hdc = BeginPaint(hDlg, &ps);                 EndPaint(hDlg, &ps);             }             break;     }     return FALSE; } The MSDN documentation mentions that you need to specify the flag WS_NONAVDONEBUTTON, but I got an error saying that the value could not be found, so we can ignore this for now. Next up, while calling SHInitDialog() for your custom dialog, make sure that you don’t specify SHDIF_DONEBUTTON in the dwFlags member of the SHINITDIALOG structure, this member makes the ‘ok’ button appear on the dialog title bar. Finally, we need to call SHDoneButton() with SHDB_HIDE flag to, well, hide the Done button. The ‘Done’ button is the same as the ‘ok’ button, so this step might seem redundant, and the dialog works fine without calling SHDoneButton() too, but it’s better to stick with the documentation (; So you can see that we have followed all these steps above, under WM_INITDIALOG. We also setup a few things like a variable to keep track of the time, and setting off a one second timer. Every time the timer fires, we receive a WM_TIMER message. We then update the static label displaying the amount of time left to the user. If 8 seconds go by without the user selecting any option, we kill the timer and end the dialog with IDC_BUTTON_BLACK_DEF. This is just a #define’d integer value, make sure it’s unique. You’ll see why this is important. If the user makes a selection, either Black or White, we kill the timer and end the dialog with corresponding selection the user made, that is, either IDC_BUTTON_BLACK or IDC_BUTTON_WHITE. Ok, so now our custom dialog is ready to be used. I invoke the custom dialog from a menu entry in the main windows as below, case IDM_MENU_CUSTOMDLG:     {         int ret = DialogBox(g_hInst, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDD_CUSTOM_DIALOG), hWnd, CustomDialogProc);         switch(ret)         {             case IDC_BUTTON_BLACK_DEF:                 SetWindowText(g_hStaticSelection, L"You Selected: Black (default)");                 break;             case IDC_BUTTON_BLACK:                 SetWindowText(g_hStaticSelection, L"You Selected: Black");                 break;             case IDC_BUTTON_WHITE:                 SetWindowText(g_hStaticSelection, L"You Selected: White");                 break;         }         UpdateWindow(g_hStaticSelection);     }     break; So you see why ending the dialog with the corresponding value was important, that’s what the DialogBox() api returns with. And in the main window I update a static text label to show which option was selected. I cranked this out in about an hour, and unfortunately don’t have time for a managed C# version. That will have to be another post, if I manage to get it working that is (;

  • J2EE Applications, SPARC T4, Solaris Containers, and Resource Pools

    - by user12620111
    I've obtained a substantial performance improvement on a SPARC T4-2 Server running a J2EE Application Server Cluster by deploying the cluster members into Oracle Solaris Containers and binding those containers to cores of the SPARC T4 Processor. This is not a surprising result, in fact, it is consistent with other results that are available on the Internet. See the "references", below, for some examples. Nonetheless, here is a summary of my configuration and results. (1.0) Before deploying a J2EE Application Server Cluster into a virtualized environment, many decisions need to be made. I'm not claiming that all of the decisions that I have a made will work well for every environment. In fact, I'm not even claiming that all of the decisions are the best possible for my environment. I'm only claiming that of the small sample of configurations that I've tested, this is the one that is working best for me. Here are some of the decisions that needed to be made: (1.1) Which virtualization option? There are several virtualization options and isolation levels that are available. Options include: Hard partitions:  Dynamic Domains on Sun SPARC Enterprise M-Series Servers Hypervisor based virtualization such as Oracle VM Server for SPARC (LDOMs) on SPARC T-Series Servers OS Virtualization using Oracle Solaris Containers Resource management tools in the Oracle Solaris OS to control the amount of resources an application receives, such as CPU cycles, physical memory, and network bandwidth. Oracle Solaris Containers provide the right level of isolation and flexibility for my environment. To borrow some words from my friends in marketing, "The SPARC T4 processor leverages the unique, no-cost virtualization capabilities of Oracle Solaris Zones"  (1.2) How to associate Oracle Solaris Containers with resources? There are several options available to associate containers with resources, including (a) resource pool association (b) dedicated-cpu resources and (c) capped-cpu resources. I chose to create resource pools and associate them with the containers because I wanted explicit control over the cores and virtual processors.  (1.3) Cluster Topology? Is it best to deploy (a) multiple application servers on one node, (b) one application server on multiple nodes, or (c) multiple application servers on multiple nodes? After a few quick tests, it appears that one application server per Oracle Solaris Container is a good solution. (1.4) Number of cluster members to deploy? I chose to deploy four big 64-bit application servers. I would like go back a test many 32-bit application servers, but that is left for another day. (2.0) Configuration tested. (2.1) I was using a SPARC T4-2 Server which has 2 CPU and 128 virtual processors. To understand the physical layout of the hardware on Solaris 10, I used the OpenSolaris psrinfo perl script available at http://hub.opensolaris.org/bin/download/Community+Group+performance/files/psrinfo.pl: test# ./psrinfo.pl -pv The physical processor has 8 cores and 64 virtual processors (0-63) The core has 8 virtual processors (0-7)   The core has 8 virtual processors (8-15)   The core has 8 virtual processors (16-23)   The core has 8 virtual processors (24-31)   The core has 8 virtual processors (32-39)   The core has 8 virtual processors (40-47)   The core has 8 virtual processors (48-55)   The core has 8 virtual processors (56-63)     SPARC-T4 (chipid 0, clock 2848 MHz) The physical processor has 8 cores and 64 virtual processors (64-127)   The core has 8 virtual processors (64-71)   The core has 8 virtual processors (72-79)   The core has 8 virtual processors (80-87)   The core has 8 virtual processors (88-95)   The core has 8 virtual processors (96-103)   The core has 8 virtual processors (104-111)   The core has 8 virtual processors (112-119)   The core has 8 virtual processors (120-127)     SPARC-T4 (chipid 1, clock 2848 MHz) (2.2) The "before" test: without processor binding. I started with a 4-member cluster deployed into 4 Oracle Solaris Containers. Each container used a unique gigabit Ethernet port for HTTP traffic. • How to use ULS in SharePoint 2010 for Custom Code Exception Logging?

    - by venkatx5
    What is ULS in SharePoint 2010? ULS stands for Unified Logging Service which captures and writes Exceptions/Logs in Log File(A Plain Text File with .log extension). SharePoint logs Each and every exceptions with ULS. SharePoint Administrators should know ULS and it's very useful when anything goes wrong. but when you ask any SharePoint 2007 Administrator to check log file then most of them will Kill you. Because read and understand the log file is not so easy. Imagine open a plain text file of 20 MB in NotePad and go thru line by line. Now Microsoft developed a tool "ULS Viewer" to view those Log files in easily readable format. This tools also helps to filter events based on exception priority. You can read on this blog to know in details about ULS Viewer . Where to get ULS Viewer? ULS Viewer is developed by Microsoft and available to download for free. URL : http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/ULSViewer/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=3308 Note: Eventhought this tool developed by Microsoft, it's not supported by Microsoft. Means you can't support for this tool from Microsoft and use it on your own Risk. By the way what's the risk in viewing Log Files?! How to use ULS in SharePoint 2010 Custom Code? ULS can be extended to use in user solutions to log exceptions. In Detail, Developer can use ULS to log his own application errors and exceptions on SharePoint Log files. So now all in Single Place (That's why it's called "Unified Logging"). Well in this article I am going to use Waldek's Code (Reference Link). However the article is core and am writing container for that (Basically how to implement the code in Detail). Let's see the steps. Open Visual Studio 2010 -> File -> New Project -> Visual C# -> Windows -> Class Library -> Name : ULSLogger (Make sure you've selected .net Framework 3.5)   In Solution Explorer Panel, Rename the Class1.cs to LoggingService.cs   Right Click on References -> Add Reference -> Under .Net tab select "Microsoft.SharePoint"   Right Click on the Project -> Properties. Select "Signing" Tab -> Check "Sign the Assembly".   In the below drop down select <New> and enter "ULSLogger", uncheck the "Protect my key with a Password" option.   Now copy the below code and paste. (Or Just refer.. :-) ) using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using Microsoft.SharePoint; using Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; namespace ULSLogger { public class LoggingService : SPDiagnosticsServiceBase { public static string vsDiagnosticAreaName = "Venkats SharePoint Logging Service"; public static string CategoryName = "vsProject"; public static uint uintEventID = 700; // Event ID private static LoggingService _Current; public static LoggingService Current {  get   {    if (_Current == null)     {       _Current = new LoggingService();     }    return _Current;   } }private LoggingService() : base("Venkats SharePoint Logging Service", SPFarm.Local) {}protected override IEnumerable<SPDiagnosticsArea> ProvideAreas() { List<SPDiagnosticsArea> areas = new List<SPDiagnosticsArea>  {   new SPDiagnosticsArea(vsDiagnosticAreaName, new List<SPDiagnosticsCategory>    {     new SPDiagnosticsCategory(CategoryName, TraceSeverity.Medium, EventSeverity.Error)    })   }; return areas; }public static string LogErrorInULS(string errorMessage) { string strExecutionResult = "Message Not Logged in ULS. "; try  {   SPDiagnosticsCategory category = LoggingService.Current.Areas[vsDiagnosticAreaName].Categories[CategoryName];   LoggingService.Current.WriteTrace(uintEventID, category, TraceSeverity.Unexpected, errorMessage);   strExecutionResult = "Message Logged"; } catch (Exception ex) {  strExecutionResult += ex.Message; } return strExecutionResult; }public static string LogErrorInULS(string errorMessage, TraceSeverity tsSeverity) { string strExecutionResult = "Message Not Logged in ULS. "; try  {  SPDiagnosticsCategory category = LoggingService.Current.Areas[vsDiagnosticAreaName].Categories[CategoryName];  LoggingService.Current.WriteTrace(uintEventID, category, tsSeverity, errorMessage);  strExecutionResult = "Message Logged";  } catch (Exception ex)  {   strExecutionResult += ex.Message;   } return strExecutionResult;  } } }   Just build the solution and it's ready to use now. This ULS solution can be used in SharePoint Webparts or Console Application. Lets see how to use it in a Console Application. SharePoint Server 2010 must be installed in the same Server or the application must be hosted in SharPoint Server 2010 environment. The console application must be set to "x64" Platform target.   Create a New Console Application. (Visual Studio -> File -> New Project -> C# -> Windows -> Console Application) Right Click on References -> Add Reference -> Under .Net tab select "Microsoft.SharePoint" Open Program.cs add "using Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration;" Right Click on References -> Add Reference -> Under "Browse" tab select the "ULSLogger.dll" which we created first. (Path : ULSLogger\ULSLogger\bin\Debug\) Right Click on Project -> Properties -> Select "Build" Tab -> Under "Platform Target" option select "x64". Open the Program.cs and paste the below code. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration; using ULSLogger; namespace ULSLoggerClient {  class Program   {   static void Main(string[] args)     {     Console.WriteLine("ULS Logging Started.");     string strResult = LoggingService.LogErrorInULS("My Application is Working Fine.");      Console.WriteLine("ULS Logging Info. Result : " + strResult);     string strResult = LoggingService.LogErrorInULS("My Application got an Exception.", TraceSeverity.High);     Console.WriteLine("ULS Logging Waring Result : " + strResult);      Console.WriteLine("ULS Logging Completed.");      Console.ReadLine();     }   } } Just build the solution and execute. It'll log the message on the log file. Make sure you are using Farm Administrator User ID. You can play with Message and TraceSeverity as required. Now Open ULS Viewer -> File -> Open From -> ULS -> Select First Option to open the default ULS Log. It's Uls RealTime and will show all log entries in readable table format. Right Click on a row and select "Filter By This Item". Select "Event ID" and enter value "700" that we used in the application. Click Ok and now you'll see the Exceptions/Logs which logged by our application.   If you want to see High Priority Messages only then Click Icons except Red Cross Icon on the Toolbar. The tooltip will tell what's the icons used for.

    This post was a dump of the following code (without the highlights). No question, just a dump. Please update this q. with a real question to have it reopened. You (the asker) risk to be flagged as spammer (if not already) and a bad reputation. • Custom Content Pipeline with Automatic Serialization Load Error

    I'm running into this error: Error loading "desert". Cannot find type TiledLib.MapContent, TiledLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null. at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentTypeReaderManager.InstantiateTypeReader(String readerTypeName, ContentReader contentReader, ContentTypeReader& reader) at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentTypeReaderManager.GetTypeReader(String readerTypeName, ContentReader contentReader, List1& newTypeReaders) at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentTypeReaderManager.ReadTypeManifest(Int32 typeCount, ContentReader contentReader) at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentReader.ReadHeader() at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentReader.ReadAsset[T]() at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentManager.ReadAsset[T](String assetName, Action1 recordDisposableObject) at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentManager.Load[T](String assetName) at TiledTest.Game1.LoadContent() in C:\My Documents\Dropbox\Visual Studio Projects\TiledTest\TiledTest\TiledTest\Game1.cs:line 51 at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game.Initialize() at TiledTest.Game1.Initialize() in C:\My Documents\Dropbox\Visual Studio Projects\TiledTest\TiledTest\TiledTest\Game1.cs:line 39 at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game.RunGame(Boolean useBlockingRun) at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game.Run() at TiledTest.Program.Main(String[] args) in C:\My Documents\Dropbox\Visual Studio Projects\TiledTest\TiledTest\TiledTest\Program.cs:line 15 When trying to run the game. This is a basic demo to try and utilize a separate project library called TiledLib. I have four projects overall: TiledLib (C# Class Library) TiledTest (Windows Game) TiledTestContent (Content) TMX CP Ext (Content Pipeline Extension Library) TiledLib contains MapContent which is throwing the error, however I believe this may just be a generic error with a deeper root problem. EMX CP Ext contains one file: MapProcessor.cs using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Graphics; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.Pipeline; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.Pipeline.Graphics; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.Pipeline.Processors; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content; using TiledLib; namespace TMX_CP_Ext { // Each tile has a texture, source rect, and sprite effects. [ContentSerializerRuntimeType("TiledTest.Tile, TiledTest")] public class DemoMapTileContent { public ExternalReference<Texture2DContent> Texture; public Rectangle SourceRectangle; public SpriteEffects SpriteEffects; } // For each layer, we store the size of the layer and the tiles. [ContentSerializerRuntimeType("TiledTest.Layer, TiledTest")] public class DemoMapLayerContent { public int Width; public int Height; public DemoMapTileContent[] Tiles; } // For the map itself, we just store the size, tile size, and a list of layers. [ContentSerializerRuntimeType("TiledTest.Map, TiledTest")] public class DemoMapContent { public int TileWidth; public int TileHeight; public List<DemoMapLayerContent> Layers = new List<DemoMapLayerContent>(); } [ContentProcessor(DisplayName = "TMX Processor - TiledLib")] public class MapProcessor : ContentProcessor<MapContent, DemoMapContent> { public override DemoMapContent Process(MapContent input, ContentProcessorContext context) { // build the textures TiledHelpers.BuildTileSetTextures(input, context); // generate source rectangles TiledHelpers.GenerateTileSourceRectangles(input); // now build our output, first by just copying over some data DemoMapContent output = new DemoMapContent { TileWidth = input.TileWidth, TileHeight = input.TileHeight }; // iterate all the layers of the input foreach (LayerContent layer in input.Layers) { // we only care about tile layers in our demo TileLayerContent tlc = layer as TileLayerContent; if (tlc != null) { // create the new layer DemoMapLayerContent outLayer = new DemoMapLayerContent { Width = tlc.Width, Height = tlc.Height, }; // we need to build up our tile list now outLayer.Tiles = new DemoMapTileContent[tlc.Data.Length]; for (int i = 0; i < tlc.Data.Length; i++) { // get the ID of the tile uint tileID = tlc.Data[i]; // use that to get the actual index as well as the SpriteEffects int tileIndex; SpriteEffects spriteEffects; TiledHelpers.DecodeTileID(tileID, out tileIndex, out spriteEffects); // figure out which tile set has this tile index in it and grab // the texture reference and source rectangle. ExternalReference<Texture2DContent> textureContent = null; Rectangle sourceRect = new Rectangle(); // iterate all the tile sets foreach (var tileSet in input.TileSets) { // if our tile index is in this set if (tileIndex - tileSet.FirstId < tileSet.Tiles.Count) { // store the texture content and source rectangle textureContent = tileSet.Texture; sourceRect = tileSet.Tiles[(int)(tileIndex - tileSet.FirstId)].Source; // and break out of the foreach loop break; } } // now insert the tile into our output outLayer.Tiles[i] = new DemoMapTileContent { Texture = textureContent, SourceRectangle = sourceRect, SpriteEffects = spriteEffects }; } // add the layer to our output output.Layers.Add(outLayer); } } // return the output object. because we have ContentSerializerRuntimeType attributes on our // objects, we don't need a ContentTypeWriter and can just use the automatic serialization. return output; } } } TiledLib contains a large amount of files including MapContent.cs using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Globalization; using System.Xml; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.Pipeline; namespace TiledLib { public enum Orientation : byte { Orthogonal, Isometric, } public class MapContent { public string Filename; public string Directory; public string Version = string.Empty; public Orientation Orientation; public int Width; public int Height; public int TileWidth; public int TileHeight; public PropertyCollection Properties = new PropertyCollection(); public List<TileSetContent> TileSets = new List<TileSetContent>(); public List<LayerContent> Layers = new List<LayerContent>(); public MapContent(XmlDocument document, ContentImporterContext context) { XmlNode mapNode = document["map"]; Version = mapNode.Attributes["version"].Value; Orientation = (Orientation)Enum.Parse(typeof(Orientation), mapNode.Attributes["orientation"].Value, true); Width = int.Parse(mapNode.Attributes["width"].Value, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture); Height = int.Parse(mapNode.Attributes["height"].Value, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture); TileWidth = int.Parse(mapNode.Attributes["tilewidth"].Value, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture); TileHeight = int.Parse(mapNode.Attributes["tileheight"].Value, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture); XmlNode propertiesNode = document.SelectSingleNode("map/properties"); if (propertiesNode != null) { Properties = new PropertyCollection(propertiesNode, context); } foreach (XmlNode tileSet in document.SelectNodes("map/tileset")) { if (tileSet.Attributes["source"] != null) { TileSets.Add(new ExternalTileSetContent(tileSet, context)); } else { TileSets.Add(new TileSetContent(tileSet, context)); } } foreach (XmlNode layerNode in document.SelectNodes("map/layer|map/objectgroup")) { LayerContent layerContent; if (layerNode.Name == "layer") { layerContent = new TileLayerContent(layerNode, context); } else if (layerNode.Name == "objectgroup") { layerContent = new MapObjectLayerContent(layerNode, context); } else { throw new Exception("Unknown layer name: " + layerNode.Name); } // Layer names need to be unique for our lookup system, but Tiled // doesn't require unique names. string layerName = layerContent.Name; int duplicateCount = 2; // if a layer already has the same name... if (Layers.Find(l => l.Name == layerName) != null) { // figure out a layer name that does work do { layerName = string.Format("{0}{1}", layerContent.Name, duplicateCount); duplicateCount++; } while (Layers.Find(l => l.Name == layerName) != null); // log a warning for the user to see context.Logger.LogWarning(string.Empty, new ContentIdentity(), "Renaming layer \"{1}\" to \"{2}\" to make a unique name.", layerContent.Type, layerContent.Name, layerName); // save that name layerContent.Name = layerName; } Layers.Add(layerContent); } } } } I'm lost as to why this is failing. Thoughts? -- EDIT -- After playing with it a bit, I would think it has something to do with referencing the projects. I'm already referencing the TiledLib within my main windows project (TiledTest). However, this doesn't seem to make a difference. I can place the dll generated from the TiledLib project into the debug folder of TiledTest, and this causes it to generate a different error: Error loading "desert". The TiledLib I am utilizing is from Nick Gravelyn, and can be found here: https://bitbucket.org/nickgravelyn/tiledlib. The demo it comes with works fine, and yet in recreating I always run into this error.

  • C#/.NET Little Wonders: Tuples and Tuple Factory Methods

    - by James Michael Hare
    Once again, in this series of posts I look at the parts of the .NET Framework that may seem trivial, but can really help improve your code by making it easier to write and maintain.  This week, we look at the System.Tuple class and the handy factory methods for creating a Tuple by inferring the types. What is a Tuple? The System.Tuple is a class that tends to inspire a reaction in one of two ways: love or hate.  Simply put, a Tuple is a data structure that holds a specific number of items of a specific type in a specific order.  That is, a Tuple<int, string, int> is a tuple that contains exactly three items: an int, followed by a string, followed by an int.  The sequence is important not only to distinguish between two members of the tuple with the same type, but also for comparisons between tuples.  Some people tend to love tuples because they give you a quick way to combine multiple values into one result.  This can be handy for returning more than one value from a method (without using out or ref parameters), or for creating a compound key to a Dictionary, or any other purpose you can think of.  They can be especially handy when passing a series of items into a call that only takes one object parameter, such as passing an argument to a thread's startup routine.  In these cases, you do not need to define a class, simply create a tuple containing the types you wish to return, and you are ready to go? On the other hand, there are some people who see tuples as a crutch in object-oriented design.  They may view the tuple as a very watered down class with very little inherent semantic meaning.  As an example, what if you saw this in a piece of code: 1: var x = new Tuple<int, int>(2, 5); What are the contents of this tuple?  If the tuple isn't named appropriately, and if the contents of each member are not self evident from the type this can be a confusing question.  The people who tend to be against tuples would rather you explicitly code a class to contain the values, such as: 1: public sealed class RetrySettings 2: { 3: public int TimeoutSeconds { get; set; } 4: public int MaxRetries { get; set; } 5: } Here, the meaning of each int in the class is much more clear, but it's a bit more work to create the class and can clutter a solution with extra classes. So, what's the correct way to go?  That's a tough call.  You will have people who will argue quite well for one or the other.  For me, I consider the Tuple to be a tool to make it easy to collect values together easily.  There are times when I just need to combine items for a key or a result, in which case the tuple is short lived and so the meaning isn't easily lost and I feel this is a good compromise.  If the scope of the collection of items, though, is more application-wide I tend to favor creating a full class. Finally, it should be noted that tuples are immutable.  That means they are assigned a value at construction, and that value cannot be changed.  Now, of course if the tuple contains an item of a reference type, this means that the reference is immutable and not the item referred to. Tuples from 1 to N Tuples come in all sizes, you can have as few as one element in your tuple, or as many as you like.  However, since C# generics can't have an infinite generic type parameter list, any items after 7 have to be collapsed into another tuple, as we'll show shortly. So when you declare your tuple from sizes 1 (a 1-tuple or singleton) to 7 (a 7-tuple or septuple), simply include the appropriate number of type arguments: 1: // a singleton tuple of integer 2: Tuple<int> x; 3:  4: // or more 5: Tuple<int, double> y; 6:  7: // up to seven 8: Tuple<int, double, char, double, int, string, uint> z; Anything eight and above, and we have to nest tuples inside of tuples.  The last element of the 8-tuple is the generic type parameter Rest, this is special in that the Tuple checks to make sure at runtime that the type is a Tuple.  This means that a simple 8-tuple must nest a singleton tuple (one of the good uses for a singleton tuple, by the way) for the Rest property. 1: // an 8-tuple 2: Tuple<int, int, int, int, int, double, char, Tuple<string>> t8; 3:  4: // an 9-tuple 5: Tuple<int, int, int, int, double, int, char, Tuple<string, DateTime>> t9; 6:  7: // a 16-tuple 8: Tuple<int, int, int, int, int, int, int, Tuple<int, int, int, int, int, int, int, Tuple<int,int>>> t14; Notice that on the 14-tuple we had to have a nested tuple in the nested tuple.  Since the tuple can only support up to seven items, and then a rest element, that means that if the nested tuple needs more than seven items you must nest in it as well.  Constructing tuples Constructing tuples is just as straightforward as declaring them.  That said, you have two distinct ways to do it.  The first is to construct the tuple explicitly yourself: 1: var t3 = new Tuple<int, string, double>(1, "Hello", 3.1415927); This creates a triple that has an int, string, and double and assigns the values 1, "Hello", and 3.1415927 respectively.  Make sure the order of the arguments supplied matches the order of the types!  Also notice that we can't half-assign a tuple or create a default tuple.  Tuples are immutable (you can't change the values once constructed), so thus you must provide all values at construction time. Another way to easily create tuples is to do it implicitly using the System.Tuple static class's Create() factory methods.  These methods (much like C++'s std::make_pair method) will infer the types from the method call so you don't have to type them in.  This can dramatically reduce the amount of typing required especially for complex tuples! 1: // this 4-tuple is typed Tuple<int, double, string, char> 2: var t4 = Tuple.Create(42, 3.1415927, "Love", 'X'); Notice how much easier it is to use the factory methods and infer the types?  This can cut down on typing quite a bit when constructing tuples.  The Create() factory method can construct from a 1-tuple (singleton) to an 8-tuple (octuple), which of course will be a octuple where the last item is a singleton as we described before in nested tuples. Accessing tuple members Accessing a tuple's members is simplicity itself… mostly.  The properties for accessing up to the first seven items are Item1, Item2, …, Item7.  If you have an octuple or beyond, the final property is Rest which will give you the nested tuple which you can then access in a similar matter.  Once again, keep in mind that these are read-only properties and cannot be changed. 1: // for septuples and below, use the Item properties 2: var t1 = Tuple.Create(42, 3.14); 3:  4: Console.WriteLine("First item is {0} and second is {1}", 5: t1.Item1, t1.Item2); 6:  7: // for octuples and above, use Rest to retrieve nested tuple 8: var t9 = new Tuple<int, int, int, int, int, int, int, 9: Tuple<int, int>>(1,2,3,4,5,6,7,Tuple.Create(8,9)); 10:  11: Console.WriteLine("The 8th item is {0}", t9.Rest.Item1); Tuples are IStructuralComparable and IStructuralEquatable Most of you know about IComparable and IEquatable, what you may not know is that there are two sister interfaces to these that were added in .NET 4.0 to help support tuples.  These IStructuralComparable and IStructuralEquatable make it easy to compare two tuples for equality and ordering.  This is invaluable for sorting, and makes it easy to use tuples as a compound-key to a dictionary (one of my favorite uses)! Why is this so important?  Remember when we said that some folks think tuples are too generic and you should define a custom class?  This is all well and good, but if you want to design a custom class that can automatically order itself based on its members and build a hash code for itself based on its members, it is no longer a trivial task!  Thankfully the tuple does this all for you through the explicit implementations of these interfaces. For equality, two tuples are equal if all elements are equal between the two tuples, that is if t1.Item1 == t2.Item1 and t1.Item2 == t2.Item2, and so on.  For ordering, it's a little more complex in that it compares the two tuples one at a time starting at Item1, and sees which one has a smaller Item1.  If one has a smaller Item1, it is the smaller tuple.  However if both Item1 are the same, it compares Item2 and so on. For example: 1: var t1 = Tuple.Create(1, 3.14, "Hi"); 2: var t2 = Tuple.Create(1, 3.14, "Hi"); 3: var t3 = Tuple.Create(2, 2.72, "Bye"); 4:  5: // true, t1 == t2 because all items are == 6: Console.WriteLine("t1 == t2 : " + t1.Equals(t2)); 7:  8: // false, t1 != t2 because at least one item different 9: Console.WriteLine("t2 == t2 : " + t2.Equals(t3)); The actual implementation of IComparable, IEquatable, IStructuralComparable, and IStructuralEquatable is explicit, so if you want to invoke the methods defined there you'll have to manually cast to the appropriate interface: 1: // true because t1.Item1 < t3.Item1, if had been same would check Item2 and so on 2: Console.WriteLine("t1 < t3 : " + (((IComparable)t1).CompareTo(t3) < 0)); So, as I mentioned, the fact that tuples are automatically equatable and comparable (provided the types you use define equality and comparability as needed) means that we can use tuples for compound keys in hashing and ordering containers like Dictionary and SortedList: 1: var tupleDict = new Dictionary<Tuple<int, double, string>, string>(); 2:  3: tupleDict.Add(t1, "First tuple"); 4: tupleDict.Add(t2, "Second tuple"); 5: tupleDict.Add(t3, "Third tuple"); Because IEquatable defines GetHashCode(), and Tuple's IStructuralEquatable implementation creates this hash code by combining the hash codes of the members, this makes using the tuple as a complex key quite easy!  For example, let's say you are creating account charts for a financial application, and you want to cache those charts in a Dictionary based on the account number and the number of days of chart data (for example, a 1 day chart, 1 week chart, etc): 1: // the account number (string) and number of days (int) are key to get cached chart 2: var chartCache = new Dictionary<Tuple<string, int>, IChart>(); Summary The System.Tuple, like any tool, is best used where it will achieve a greater benefit.  I wouldn't advise overusing them, on objects with a large scope or it can become difficult to maintain.  However, when used properly in a well defined scope they can make your code cleaner and easier to maintain by removing the need for extraneous POCOs and custom property hashing and ordering. They are especially useful in defining compound keys to IDictionary implementations and for returning multiple values from methods, or passing multiple values to a single object parameter. • How can i add a checkbox for optional files during install? (innosetup)

    - by Globulorozzo
    i'm trying to make a custom checkbox in my custom page (because is a one page installer), is needed only a checkbox without dialogs or anything, the installer that i'm trying to compile is very linear and simple. i want to bind "FILE3.EXE" on a checkbox in this way: if checkbox is checked copy the file (FILE3.EXE) in DestDir, otherwise if checkbox is unchecked skip the file (FILE3.EXE) during installation. This is the code that i use, obviously the checkbox code is missing because i'm not able to do that [Files] Source: FILE1.EXE; DestDir: {app}; Source: FILE2.EXE; DestDir: {app}; Source: FILE3.EXE; DestDir: {app}; //OPTIONAL [Code] procedure ExitProcess(uExitCode: UINT); external '[email protected] stdcall'; var MainPage : TWizardPage; FolderToInstall : TEdit; InstallLocation : String; procedure CancelClick(Sender: TObject); begin if ExitSetupMsgBox then begin ExitProcess(0); end; end; procedure BrowseClick(Sender : TObject); var Dir : String; begin Dir := FolderToInstall.Text; if BrowseForFolder('Browse',Dir,false) then FolderToInstall.Text := Dir; WizardForm.DirEdit.Text := Dir; end; procedure InitializeWizard(); var LabelFolder : TLabel; begin WizardForm.ClientWidth:=ScaleX(550); WizardForm.ClientHeight:=ScaleY(250); WizardForm.Center; WizardForm.OuterNotebook.Hide; WizardForm.InnerNotebook.Hide; WizardForm.Bevel.hide; Wizardform.NextButton.top := 180; Wizardform.NextButton.Left := 470; WizardForm.NextButton.Height := 25; WizardForm.StatusLabel.Parent := WizardForm; WizardForm.StatusLabel.Left := 6; WizardForm.StatusLabel.Top := 206; WizardForm.FilenameLabel.Parent := WizardForm; WizardForm.FilenameLabel.Left := 87; WizardForm.FilenameLabel.Top := 206; WizardForm.FilenameLabel.Width := ScaleX(383); WizardForm.ProgressGauge.Parent := WizardForm; WizardForm.ProgressGauge.Left :=5; WizardForm.ProgressGauge.Top := 222; WizardForm.ProgressGauge.Width := ScaleX(460); MainPage := CreateCustomPage(wpWelcome,'',''); LabelFolder := TLabel.Create(MainPage); LabelFolder.Parent := WizardForm; LabelFolder.Top := 164; LabelFolder.Left := 6; LabelFolder.Caption := 'Directory:' FolderToInstall := TEdit.Create(MainPage); FolderToInstall.Parent := WizardForm; FolderToInstall.Top := 182; FolderToInstall.Left := 85; FolderToInstall.Width := 380; FolderToInstall.Text := WizardDirValue; FolderToInstall.ReadOnly := True; end;

  • Need Help Setting an Image with Transparent Background to Clipboard

    - by AMissico
    I need help setting a transparent image to the clipboard. I keep getting "handle is invalid". Basically, I need a "second set of eyes" to look over the following code. (The complete working project at ftp://missico.net/ImageVisualizer.zip.) This is an image Debug Visualizer class library, but I made the included project to run as an executable for testing. (Note that window is a toolbox window and show in taskbar is set to false.) I was tired of having to perform a screen capture on the toolbox window, open the screen capture with an image editor, and then deleting the background added because it was a screen capture. So I thought I would quickly put the transparent image onto the clipboard. Well, the problem is...no transparency support for Clipboard.SetImage. Google to the rescue...not quite. This is what I have so far. I pulled from a number of sources. See the code for the main reference. My problem is the "invalid handle" when using CF_DIBV5. Do I need to use BITMAPV5HEADER and CreateDIBitmap? Any help from you GDI/GDI+ Wizards would be greatly appreciated. public static void SetClipboardData(Bitmap bitmap, IntPtr hDC) { const uint SRCCOPY = 0x00CC0020; const int CF_DIBV5 = 17; const int CF_BITMAP = 2; //'reference //'http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winforms/thread/816a35f6-9530-442b-9647-e856602cc0e2 IntPtr memDC = CreateCompatibleDC(hDC); IntPtr memBM = CreateCompatibleBitmap(hDC, bitmap.Width, bitmap.Height); SelectObject(memDC, memBM); using (Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bitmap)) { IntPtr hBitmapDC = g.GetHdc(); IntPtr hBitmap = bitmap.GetHbitmap(); SelectObject(hBitmapDC, hBitmap); BitBlt(memDC, 0, 0, bitmap.Width, bitmap.Height, hBitmapDC, 0, 0, SRCCOPY); if (!OpenClipboard(IntPtr.Zero)) { throw new System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException("Could not open Clipboard", new Win32Exception()); } if (!EmptyClipboard()) { throw new System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException("Unable to empty Clipboard", new Win32Exception()); } //IntPtr hClipboard = SetClipboardData(CF_BITMAP, memBM); //works but image is not transparent //all my attempts result in SetClipboardData returning hClipboard = IntPtr.Zero IntPtr hClipboard = SetClipboardData(CF_DIBV5, memBM); //because if (hClipboard == IntPtr.Zero) { // InnerException: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception // Message="The handle is invalid" // ErrorCode=-2147467259 // NativeErrorCode=6 // InnerException: throw new System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException("Could not put data on Clipboard", new Win32Exception()); } if (!CloseClipboard()) { throw new System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException("Could not close Clipboard", new Win32Exception()); } g.ReleaseHdc(hBitmapDC); } } private void __copyMenuItem_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { using (Graphics g = __pictureBox.CreateGraphics()) { IntPtr hDC = g.GetHdc(); MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); __pictureBox.Image.Save(ms, ImageFormat.Png); ms.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin); Image imag = Image.FromStream(ms); // Derive BitMap object using Image instance, so that you can avoid the issue //"a graphics object cannot be created from an image that has an indexed pixel format" Bitmap img = new Bitmap(new Bitmap(imag)); SetClipboardData(img, hDC); g.ReleaseHdc(); } }

  • JpegBitmapEncoder.Save() throws exception when writing image with metadata to MemoryStream

    - by Dmitry
    I am trying to set up metadata on JPG image what does not have it. You can't use in-place writer (InPlaceBitmapMetadataWriter) in this case, cuz there is no place for metadata in image. If I use FileStream as output - everything works fine. But if I try to use MemoryStream as output - JpegBitmapEncoder.Save() throws an exception (Exception from HRESULT: 0xC0000005). After some investigation I also found out what encoder can save image to memory stream if I supply null instead of metadata. I've made a very simplified and short example what reproduces the problem: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.IO; using System.Drawing; using System.Drawing.Imaging; using System.Windows.Media.Imaging; namespace JpegSaveTest { class Program { public static JpegBitmapEncoder SetUpMetadataOnStream(Stream src, string title) { uint padding = 2048; BitmapDecoder original; BitmapFrame framecopy, newframe; BitmapMetadata metadata; JpegBitmapEncoder output = new JpegBitmapEncoder(); src.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin); original = JpegBitmapDecoder.Create(src, BitmapCreateOptions.PreservePixelFormat, BitmapCacheOption.OnLoad); if (original.Frames[0] != null) { framecopy = (BitmapFrame)original.Frames[0].Clone(); if (original.Frames[0].Metadata != null) metadata = original.Frames[0].Metadata.Clone() as BitmapMetadata; else metadata = new BitmapMetadata("jpeg"); metadata.SetQuery("/app1/ifd/PaddingSchema:Padding", padding); metadata.SetQuery("/app1/ifd/exif/PaddingSchema:Padding", padding); metadata.SetQuery("/xmp/PaddingSchema:Padding", padding); metadata.SetQuery("System.Title", title); newframe = BitmapFrame.Create(framecopy, framecopy.Thumbnail, metadata, original.Frames[0].ColorContexts); output.Frames.Add(newframe); } else { Exception ex = new Exception("Image contains no frames."); throw ex; } return output; } public static MemoryStream SetTagsInMemory(string sfname, string title) { Stream src, dst; JpegBitmapEncoder output; src = File.Open(sfname, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.Read); output = SetUpMetadataOnStream(src, title); dst = new MemoryStream(); output.Save(dst); src.Close(); return (MemoryStream)dst; } static void Main(string[] args) { string filename = "Z:\\dotnet\\gnom4.jpg"; MemoryStream s; s = SetTagsInMemory(filename, "test title"); } } } It is simple console application. To run it, replace filename variable content with path to any .jpg file without metadata (or use mine). Ofc I can just save image to temporary file first, close it, then open and copy to MemoryStream, but its too dirty and slow workaround. Any ideas about getting this working are welcome :)

  • Progress bar in a Flash MP3 Player

    - by Deryck
    Hi I have coded a simple XML driven MP3 player. I have used Sound and SoundChannel objects and method but I can´t find a way of make a progress bar. I don´t need a loading progress I need a song progress status bar. Canbd anybody help me? Thanks. UPDATE: Theres is the code. var musicReq: URLRequest; var thumbReq: URLRequest; var music:Sound = new Sound(); var sndC:SoundChannel; var currentSnd:Sound = music; var position:Number; var currentIndex:Number = 0; var songPaused:Boolean; var songStopped:Boolean; var lineClr:uint; var changeClr:Boolean; var xml:XML; var songList:XMLList; var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, Loaded); loader.load(new URLRequest("musiclist.xml")); var thumbHd:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); thumbHd.x = 50; thumbHd.y = 70; addChild(thumbHd); function Loaded(e:Event):void{ xml = new XML(e.target.data); songList = xml.song; musicReq = new URLRequest(songList[0].url); thumbReq = new URLRequest(songList[0].thumb); music.load(musicReq); sndC = music.play(); title_txt.text = songList[0].title + " - " + songList[0].artist; loadThumb(); sndC.addEventListener(Event.SOUND_COMPLETE, nextSong); } function loadThumb():void{ var thumbLoader:Loader = new Loader(); thumbReq = new URLRequest(songList[currentIndex].thumb); thumbLoader.load(thumbReq); thumbLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, thumbLoaded); } function thumbLoaded(e:Event):void { var thumb:Bitmap = (Bitmap)(e.target.content); var holder:MovieClip = thumbHd; holder.addChild(thumb); } prevBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, prevSong); nextBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextSong); playBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, playSong); function prevSong(e:Event):void{ if(currentIndex 0){ currentIndex--; } else{ currentIndex = songList.length() - 1; } var prevReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest(songList[currentIndex].url); var prevPlay:Sound = new Sound(prevReq); sndC.stop(); title_txt.text = songList[currentIndex].title + " - " + songList[currentIndex].artist; sndC = prevPlay.play(); currentSnd = prevPlay; songPaused = false; loadThumb(); sndC.addEventListener(Event.SOUND_COMPLETE, nextSong); } function nextSong(e:Event):void { if(currentIndex And here the code for the lenght and position. It´s inside a MovieClip. That´s why I use absolute path for find the Sound object. this.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, moveSpeaker); var initWidth:Number = this.SpkCone.width; var initHeight:Number = this.SpkCone.height; var rootObj:Object = root; function moveSpeaker(eventArgs:Event) { var average:Number = ((rootObj.audioPlayer_mc.sndC.leftPeak + rootObj.audioPlayer_mc.sndC.rightPeak) / 2) * 10; // trace(average); // trace(initWidth + ":" + initHeight); trace(rootObj.audioPlayer_mc.sndC.position + "/" + rootObj.audioPlayer_mc.music.length); this.SpkCone.width = initWidth + average; this.SpkCone.height = initHeight + average; }

  • Taking screenshots in Windows Vista, Windows 7, with transparent areas outside the app region

    - by Steve Sheldon
    Hey Folks, I am trying to take a screenshot of an application and I would like to make the parts of the rectangle that are not part of the applications region be transparent. So for instance on a standard windows application I would like to make the rounded corners transparent. I wrote a quick test application which works on on XP (or vista/windows 7 with aero turned off): protected override void OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e) { base.OnPaint(e); Graphics g = e.Graphics; // Just find a window to test with IntPtr hwnd = FindWindowByCaption(IntPtr.Zero, "Calculator"); WINDOWINFO info = new WINDOWINFO(); info.cbSize = (uint)Marshal.SizeOf(info); GetWindowInfo(hwnd, ref info); Rectangle r = Rectangle.FromLTRB(info.rcWindow.Left, info.rcWindow.Top, info.rcWindow.Right, info.rcWindow.Bottom); IntPtr hrgn = CreateRectRgn(info.rcWindow.Left, info.rcWindow.Top, info.rcWindow.Right, info.rcWindow.Bottom); GetWindowRgn(hwnd, hrgn); // fill a rectangle which would be where I would probably // write some mask color g.FillRectangle(Brushes.Red, r); // fill the region over the top, all I am trying to do here // is show the contrast between the applications region and // the rectangle that the region would be placed in Region region = Region.FromHrgn(hrgn); region.Translate(info.rcWindow.Left, info.rcWindow.Top); g.FillRegion(Brushes.Blue, region); } Quick side note: before commenting that this code is doing stuff it shouldn't (or should do, like dispose) in a paint function, I know, it's not going anywhere but this post and is designed purely as a way to quickly show the problem, and that it does... OK, back to the problem ;) When I run this test app on XP (or Vista/Windows 7 with Aero off), I get something like this, which is great because I can eek an xor mask out of this that can be used later with BitBlt. Here is the problem, on Vista or Windows 7 with Aero enabled, there isn't necessarily a region on the window, in fact in most cases there isn't. Can anybody help me figure out how to get the region of the application like this on these platforms. Here are some of the approaches I have already tried... 1. Using the PrintWindow function: This doesn't work because it gives back a screenshot taken of the window with Aero off and this window is a different shape from the window returned with Aero on 2 Using the Desktop Window Manager API to get a full size thumbnail: This didn't work because it draws directly to the screen and from what I can tell you can't get a screenshot directly out of this api. Yeah, I could open a window with a pink background, show the thumbnail, take a screenshot then hide this temporary window but thats a horrible user experience and a complete hack I would rather not have my name on. 3. Using Graphics.CopyFromScreen or some other pinvoke variant of this: This doesn't work because I can't assume that the window I need information from is at the top of the z-order on the screen. Right now, the best solution I can think of is to special case Aero on Windows 7 and Vista to manually rub out the corners by hard coding some graphics paths I paint out but this solution would suck since any application that performs custom skinning will break this. Can you think of another or better solution? If you are here, thanks for taking time to read this post, I appreciate any help or direction that you can offer!

  • c# SendMessage and Skype woes

    - by Xcelled194
    I'm trying to create an add-on to Skype with C#. I don't want to use Skype4COM, as I'd like the experience with messages and such. Unfortunately, the messages are tripping me up. I've got the pumps and such set up. They all work, and my app successfully sends the "APIDiscover" message to Skype, gets a "PendingAuth" response and then the "AttachSuccess" message. However, when I try to send "ping" to Skype (to which it should reply "pong") nothing happens. The return code from SendMessage is 0 but Marshall.GetLastWin32Error is 1400 (Invalid handle). The handle was returned with the AttachSuccess method. The equivalent C++ code does work, so I'm at a loss. First is the C++ code I'm using as a guide: Here's the (cut down) message pump. Let me know if I forgot something. Any ideas why I'm getting the 1400?

  • Actionscript multiple file upload, with parameter passing is not working

    - by Metropolis
    Hey everyone, First off, I am very bad at flash/actionscript, it is not my main programming language. I have created my own file upload flash app that has been working great for me up until this point. It uses PHP to upload the files and sends back a status message which gets displayed in a status box to the user. Now I have run into a situation where I need the HTML to pass a parameter to the Actionscript, and then to the PHP file using POST. I have tried to set this up just like adobe has it on http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=17_Networking_and_communications_7.html without success. Here is my Actionscript code import fl.controls.TextArea; //Set filters var imageTypes:FileFilter = new FileFilter("Images (*.jpg, *.jpeg, *.gif, *.png)", "*.jpg; *.jpeg; *.gif; *.png"); var textTypes:FileFilter = new FileFilter("Documents (*.txt, *.rtf, *.pdf, *.doc)", "*.txt; *.rtf; *.pdf; *.doc"); var allTypes:Array = new Array(textTypes, imageTypes); var fileRefList:FileReferenceList = new FileReferenceList(); //Add event listeners for its various fileRefList functions below upload_buttn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, browseBox); fileRefList.addEventListener(Event.SELECT, selectHandler); function browseBox(event:MouseEvent):void { fileRefList.browse(allTypes); } function selectHandler(event:Event):void { var phpRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ajax/upload.ajax.php"); var flashVars:URLVariables = objectToURLVariables(this.root.loaderInfo); phpRequest.method = URLRequestMethod.POST; phpRequest.data = flashVars; var file:FileReference; var files:FileReferenceList = FileReferenceList(event.target); var selectedFileArray:Array = files.fileList; var listener:Object = new Object(); for (var i:uint = 0; i < selectedFileArray.length; i++) { file = FileReference(selectedFileArray[i]); try { file.addEventListener(DataEvent.UPLOAD_COMPLETE_DATA, phpResponse); file.upload(phpRequest); } catch (error:Error) { status_txt.text = file.name + " Was not uploaded correctly (" + error.message + ")"; } } } function phpResponse(event:DataEvent):void { var file:FileReference = FileReference(event.target); status_txt.htmlText += event.data; } function objectToURLVariables(parameters:Object):URLVariables { var paramsToSend:URLVariables = new URLVariables(); for(var i:String in parameters) { if(i!=null) { if(parameters[i] is Array) paramsToSend[i] = parameters[i]; else paramsToSend[i] = parameters[i].toString(); } } return paramsToSend; } The flashVars variable is the one that should contain the values from the HTML file. But whenever I run the program and output the variables in the PHP file I receive the following. //Using this command on the PHP page print_r($_POST); //I get this for output Array ( [Filename] => testfile.txt [Upload] => Submit Query ) Its almost like the parameters are getting over written or are just not working at all. Thanks for any help, Metropolis

  • Problem with socket communication between C# and Flex

    - by Chris Lee
    Hi all, I am implementing a simulated b/s stock data system. I am using flex and c# for client and server sides. I found flash has a security policy and I handled the policy-file-request in my server code. But seems it doesn't work, because the code jumped out at "socket.Receive(b)" after connection. I've tried sending message on client in the connection handler, in that case the server can receive correct message. But the auto-generated "policy-file-request" can never be received, and the client can get no data sending from server. Here I put my code snippet. my ActionScript code: public class StockClient extends Sprite { private var hostName:String = "192.168.84.103"; private var port:uint = 55555; private var socket:XMLSocket; public function StockClient() { socket = new XMLSocket(); configureListeners(socket); socket.connect(hostName, port); } public function send(data:Object) : void{ socket.send(data); } private function configureListeners(dispatcher:IEventDispatcher):void { dispatcher.addEventListener(Event.CLOSE, closeHandler); dispatcher.addEventListener(Event.CONNECT, connectHandler); dispatcher.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, ioErrorHandler); dispatcher.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, progressHandler); dispatcher.addEventListener(SecurityErrorEvent.SECURITY_ERROR, securityErrorHandler); dispatcher.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.SOCKET_DATA, dataHandler); } private function closeHandler(event:Event):void { trace("closeHandler: " + event); } private function connectHandler(event:Event):void { trace("connectHandler: " + event); //following testing message can be received, but client can't invoke data handler //send("<policy-file-request/>"); } private function dataHandler(event:ProgressEvent):void { //never fired trace("dataHandler: " + event); } private function ioErrorHandler(event:IOErrorEvent):void { trace("ioErrorHandler: " + event); } private function progressHandler(event:ProgressEvent):void { trace("progressHandler loaded:" + event.bytesLoaded + " total: " + event.bytesTotal); } private function securityErrorHandler(event:SecurityErrorEvent):void { trace("securityErrorHandler: " + event); } } my C# code: const int PORT_NUMBER = 55555; const String BEGIN_REQUEST = "begin"; const String END_REQUEST = "end"; const String POLICY_REQUEST = "<policy-file-request/>\u0000"; const String POLICY_FILE = "<?xml version=\"1.0\"?>\n" + "<!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM \"http://www.adobe.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd\">\n" + "<cross-domain-policy> \n" + " <allow-access-from domain=\"*\" to-ports=\"55555\"/> \n" + "</cross-domain-policy>\u0000"; ................ private void startListening() { provider = new Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Stream, ProtocolType.Tcp); provider.Bind(new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Parse("192.168.84.103"), PORT_NUMBER)); provider.Listen(10); isListened = true; while (isListened) { Socket socket = provider.Accept(); Console.WriteLine("connect!"); byte[] b = new byte[1024]; int receiveLength = 0; try { // code jump out at this statement receiveLength = socket.Receive(b); } catch (Exception e) { Debug.WriteLine(e.ToString()); } String request = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetString(b, 0, receiveLength); Console.WriteLine("request:"+request); if (request == POLICY_REQUEST) { socket.Send(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(POLICY_FILE)); Console.WriteLine("response:" + POLICY_FILE); } else if (request == END_REQUEST) { Dispose(socket); } else { StartSocket(socket); break; } } } Sorry for the long code, please someone help with it, thanks a million

  • Need Help Setting Transparent Image to Clipboard

    - by AMissico
    I need help setting a transparent image to the clipboard. I keep getting "handle is invalid". Following is the specific code with the complete working project at ftp://missico.net/ImageVisualizer.zip. This is an image Debug Visualizer class library, but I made to run as executable for testing. (Note that window is a toolbox window and show in taskbar is set to false.) I was tired of having to perform a screen capture on the toolbox window, open with an image editor, and then deleting the background added due to the screen capture. So I thought I would quickly put the transparent image onto the clipboard. Well, the problem is...no transparency support for Clipboard.SetImage. Google to the rescue...not quite. This is what I have so far pulled from a number of sources. See the code for the main reference. My problem is the "invalid handle" when using CF_DIBV5. I imagine the problem is related to BITMAPV5HEADER and CreateDIBitmap. Any help from you GDI/GDI+ Wizards would be greatly appreciated. public static void SetClipboardData(Bitmap bitmap, IntPtr hDC) { const uint SRCCOPY = 0x00CC0020; const int CF_DIBV5 = 17; const int CF_BITMAP = 2; //'reference //'http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winforms/thread/816a35f6-9530-442b-9647-e856602cc0e2 IntPtr memDC = CreateCompatibleDC(hDC); IntPtr memBM = CreateCompatibleBitmap(hDC, bitmap.Width, bitmap.Height); SelectObject(memDC, memBM); using (Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bitmap)) { IntPtr hBitmapDC = g.GetHdc(); IntPtr hBitmap = bitmap.GetHbitmap(); SelectObject(hBitmapDC, hBitmap); BitBlt(memDC, 0, 0, bitmap.Width, bitmap.Height, hBitmapDC, 0, 0, SRCCOPY); if (!OpenClipboard(IntPtr.Zero)) { throw new System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException("Could not open Clipboard", new Win32Exception()); } if (!EmptyClipboard()) { throw new System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException("Unable to empty Clipboard", new Win32Exception()); } //IntPtr hClipboard = SetClipboardData(CF_BITMAP, memBM); //works but image is not transparent //all my attempts result in SetClipboardData returning hClipboard = IntPtr.Zero IntPtr hClipboard = SetClipboardData(CF_DIBV5, memBM); //because if (hClipboard == IntPtr.Zero) { // InnerException: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception // Message="The handle is invalid" // ErrorCode=-2147467259 // NativeErrorCode=6 // InnerException: throw new System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException("Could not put data on Clipboard", new Win32Exception()); } if (!CloseClipboard()) { throw new System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException("Could not close Clipboard", new Win32Exception()); } g.ReleaseHdc(hBitmapDC); } } private void __copyMenuItem_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { //'Applications that I have verified can paste the clipboard custom data format PNG are: //' Word 2003 //' Excel 2003 using (Graphics g = __pictureBox.CreateGraphics()) { IntPtr hDC = g.GetHdc(); MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); __pictureBox.Image.Save(ms, ImageFormat.Png); ms.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin); Image imag = Image.FromStream(ms); // Derive BitMap object using Image instance, so that you can avoid the issue //"a graphics object cannot be created from an image that has an indexed pixel format" Bitmap img = new Bitmap(new Bitmap(imag)); SetClipboardData(img, hDC); g.ReleaseHdc(); } }

  • Why can't my program display this dialog box, while another program can?

    - by nonoitall
    I'm trying to write a wrapper for Winamp input plugins and have hit a bit of a snag. I'd like my wrapper to be able to display a plugin's configuration dialog, which is (or should be) achieved by calling the plugin's Config(HWND hwndParent) function. For most plugins, this works fine and my program is able to display the plugin's configuration dialog. However, 64th Note (a plugin for playing USF files) is giving me problems. Winamp can display its configuration dialog just fine, but whenever I try to display it from my wrapper, the dialog gets destroyed before it ever shows itself. Thankfully, 64th Note is open source, so I took a look at its innards to try and get an idea of what's going wrong. I've trimmed off the irrelevant bits and am left with this: Config function in the plugin (should show configuration dialog): void Config(HWND hwndParent) { DialogBox(slave, (const char *) IDD_CONFIG_WINDOW, NULL, configDlgProc); } (Slave is the plugin DLL's HINSTANCE handle.) The proc for the dialog is as follows (I have stripped out all the functionality, since it doesn't appear to have an influence on this problem): BOOL CALLBACK configDlgProc(HWND hDlg, UINT uMsg, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { return 0; } The template for IDD_CONFIG_WINDOW is as follows: IDD_CONFIG_WINDOW DIALOGEX 0, 0, 269, 149 STYLE DS_SETFONT | DS_MODALFRAME | WS_POPUP | WS_CAPTION | WS_SYSMENU CAPTION "64th Note configuration" FONT 8, "MS Sans Serif", 0, 0, 0x0 BEGIN DEFPUSHBUTTON "OK",IDOK,212,38,50,14 CONTROL "Play Forever",IDC_NOLENGTH,"Button",BS_AUTORADIOBUTTON,7,7,55,8 CONTROL "Always Use Default Length",IDC_SETLEN,"Button",BS_AUTORADIOBUTTON,7,17,101,8 CONTROL "Default Length",IDC_DEFLEN,"Button",BS_AUTORADIOBUTTON,7,29,63,8 EDITTEXT IDC_DEFLENVAL,71,28,38,12,ES_AUTOHSCROLL EDITTEXT IDC_DEFFADEVAL,71,42,38,12,ES_AUTOHSCROLL CONTROL "Detect Silence",IDC_DETSIL,"Button",BS_AUTOCHECKBOX | WS_TABSTOP,7,56,63,8 EDITTEXT IDC_DETSILVAL,71,56,38,12,ES_AUTOHSCROLL CONTROL "Slider2",IDC_PRISLIDER,"msctls_trackbar32",TBS_AUTOTICKS | WS_TABSTOP,74,90,108,11 EDITTEXT IDC_TITLEFMT,7,127,255,15,ES_AUTOHSCROLL CONTROL "Default to file name on missing field",IDC_FNONMISSINGTAG, "Button",BS_AUTOCHECKBOX | WS_TABSTOP,50,114,124,8 CONTROL "Use Recompiler CPU",IDC_RECOMPILER,"Button",BS_AUTOCHECKBOX | WS_TABSTOP,145,7,83,8 CONTROL "Round Frequency",IDC_ROUNDFREQ,"Button",BS_AUTOCHECKBOX | WS_TABSTOP,145,16,73,8 CONTROL "Seek Backwards",IDC_BACKWARDS,"Button",BS_AUTOCHECKBOX | WS_TABSTOP,145,26,70,8 CONTROL "Fast Seek",IDC_FASTSEEK,"Button",BS_AUTOCHECKBOX | WS_TABSTOP,145,35,48,8 CONTROL "RSP Sections",IDC_SECTIONS,"Button",BS_AUTOCHECKBOX | WS_TABSTOP,145,45,60,8 CONTROL "Soft Amplify",IDC_SOFTAMP,"Button",BS_AUTOCHECKBOX | WS_TABSTOP,145,54,53,8 CONTROL "Audio HLE",IDC_AUDIOHLE,"Button",BS_AUTOCHECKBOX | WS_TABSTOP,145,63,50,8 CONTROL "Auto Audio HLE",IDC_AUTOAUDIOHLE,"Button",BS_AUTOCHECKBOX | WS_TABSTOP,145,72,64,8 CONTROL "Display Errors",IDC_DISPERROR,"Button",BS_AUTOCHECKBOX | WS_TABSTOP,145,81,58,8 EDITTEXT IDC_RELVOL,211,104,28,12,ES_AUTOHSCROLL PUSHBUTTON "Cancel",IDCANCEL,212,54,50,14 PUSHBUTTON "Help",IDHELPBUTTON,212,71,50,14 LTEXT "Title format:",IDC_STATIC,7,113,38,8 LTEXT "seconds",IDC_STATIC,112,29,28,8 LTEXT "Default Fade",IDC_STATIC,19,43,42,8 LTEXT "seconds",IDC_STATIC,112,43,28,8 LTEXT "seconds",IDC_STATIC,112,57,28,8 CTEXT "CPU Thread Priority",IDC_STATIC,7,91,63,8 CTEXT "Look ma, I'm data!",IDC_CPUPRI,75,104,108,8 LTEXT "Relative Volume",IDC_STATIC,199,94,52,8 LTEXT "Fade Type",IDC_STATIC,7,75,35,8 COMBOBOX IDC_FADETYPE,45,72,87,74,CBS_DROPDOWNLIST | WS_TABSTOP END Naturally, without any substance in the proc function, the dialog doesn't have any functionality, but it still displays in Winamp when the Config function is invoked. However, it does not appear when I invoke it from my wrapper program. When I monitored the messages sent to the dialog in its proc function, I saw that WM_DESTROY and WM_NCDESTROY were sent within the first few messages, though I have no clue as to why. If I change the Config function so that it displays the plugin's About dialog instead of its configuration dialog, both Winamp and my wrapper will display the About dialog, which suggests that there is something unique to the configuration dialog template that's causing the problem. The modified Config function reads like so: void Config(HWND hwndParent) { DialogBox(slave, (const char *) IDD_ABOUTBOX, NULL, configDlgProc); } The template for the About dialog is as follows: IDD_ABOUTBOX DIALOGEX 0, 0, 152, 151 STYLE DS_SETFONT | DS_MODALFRAME | WS_POPUP | WS_CAPTION | WS_SYSMENU CAPTION "About 64th Note" FONT 8, "MS Sans Serif", 0, 0, 0x1 BEGIN LTEXT "64th Note v1.2 beta 3\nBased on Project 64 1.6 by Zilmar and Jabo\nAudio HLE by Azimer\nPSF concept and tagging by Neill Corlett\nPlayer by hcs, Josh W, dr0\nhttp://hcs64.com/usf",IDC_STATIC,7,94,138,50 CONTROL 110,IDC_STATIC,"Static",SS_BITMAP,26,7,95,86,WS_EX_DLGMODALFRAME END Like I said, my wrapper displays the About dialog just fine, as does Winamp. Why can Winamp display the Config dialog, while my wrapper cannot?

  • Drawing outlines around organic shapes

    - by ThunderChunky_SF
    One thing that seems particularly easy to do in the Flash IDE but difficult to do with code is to outline an organic shape. In the IDE you can just use the inkbucket tool to draw a stroke around something. Using nothing but code it seems much trickier. One method I've seen is to add a glow filter to the shape in question and just mess with the strength. But what if i want to only show the outline? What I'd like to do is to collect all of the points that make up the edge of the shape and then just connect the dots. I've actually gotten so far as to collect all of the points with a quick and dirty edge detection script that I wrote. So now I have a Vector of all the points that makeup my shape. How do I connect them in the proper sequence so it actually looks like the original object? For anyone who is interested here is my edge detection script: // Create a new sprite which we'll use for our outline var sp:Sprite = new Sprite(); var radius:int = 50; sp.graphics.beginFill(0x00FF00, 1); sp.graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, radius); sp.graphics.endFill(); sp.x = stage.stageWidth / 2; sp.y = stage.stageHeight / 2; // Create a bitmap data object to draw our vector data var bmd:BitmapData = new BitmapData(sp.width, sp.height, true, 0); // Use a transform matrix to translate the drawn clip so that none of its // pixels reside in negative space. The draw method will only draw starting // at 0,0 var mat:Matrix = new Matrix(1, 0, 0, 1, radius, radius); bmd.draw(sp, mat); // Pass the bitmap data to an actual bitmap var bmp:Bitmap = new Bitmap(bmd); // Add the bitmap to the stage addChild(bmp); // Grab all of the pixel data from the bitmap data object var pixels:Vector.<uint> = bmd.getVector(bmd.rect); // Setup a vector to hold our stroke points var points:Vector.<Point> = new Vector.<Point>; // Loop through all of the pixels of the bitmap data object and // create a point instance for each pixel location that isn't // transparent. var l:int = pixels.length; for(var i:int = 0; i < l; ++i) { // Check to see if the pixel is transparent if(pixels[i] != 0) { var pt:Point; // Check to see if the pixel is on the first or last // row. We'll grab everything from these rows to close the outline if(i <= bmp.width || i >= (bmp.width * bmp.height) - bmp.width) { pt = new Point(); pt.x = int(i % bmp.width); pt.y = int(i / bmp.width); points.push(pt); continue; } // Check to see if the current pixel is on either extreme edge if(int(i % bmp.width) == 0 || int(i % bmp.width) == bmp.width - 1) { pt = new Point(); pt.x = int(i % bmp.width); pt.y = int(i / bmp.width); points.push(pt); continue; } // Check to see if the previous or next pixel are transparent, // if so save the current one. if(i > 0 && i < bmp.width * bmp.height) { if(pixels[i - 1] == 0 || pixels[i + 1] == 0) { pt = new Point(); pt.x = int(i % bmp.width); pt.y = int(i / bmp.width); points.push(pt); } } } }

  • .NET GDI+ image size - file codec limitations

    - by roygbiv
    Is there a limit on the size of image that can be encoded using the image file codecs available from .NET? I'm trying to encode images 4GB in size, but it simply does not work (or does not work properly i.e. writes out an unreadable file) with .bmp, .jpg, .png or the .tif encoders. When I lower the image size to < 2GB it does work with the .jpg but not the .bmp, .tif or .png. My next attempt would be to try libtiff because I know tiff files are meant for large images. What is a good file format for large images? or am I just hitting the file format limitations? Random r = new Random((int)DateTime.Now.Ticks); int width = 64000; int height = 64000; int stride = (width % 4) > 0 ? width + (width % 4) : width; UIntPtr dataSize = new UIntPtr((ulong)stride * (ulong)height); IntPtr p = Program.VirtualAlloc(IntPtr.Zero, dataSize, Program.AllocationType.COMMIT | Program.AllocationType.RESERVE, Program.MemoryProtection.READWRITE); Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap(width, height, stride, PixelFormat.Format8bppIndexed, p); BitmapData bd = bmp.LockBits(new Rectangle(0, 0, bmp.Width, bmp.Height), ImageLockMode.ReadWrite, bmp.PixelFormat); ColorPalette cp = bmp.Palette; for (int i = 0; i < cp.Entries.Length; i++) { cp.Entries[i] = Color.FromArgb(i, i, i); } bmp.Palette = cp; unsafe { for (int y = 0; y < bd.Height; y++) { byte* row = (byte*)bd.Scan0.ToPointer() + (y * bd.Stride); for (int x = 0; x < bd.Width; x++) { *(row + x) = (byte)r.Next(256); } } } bmp.UnlockBits(bd); bmp.Save(@"c:\test.jpg", ImageFormat.Jpeg); bmp.Dispose(); Program.VirtualFree(p, UIntPtr.Zero, 0x8000); I have also tried using a pinned GC memory region, but this is limited to < 2GB. Random r = new Random((int)DateTime.Now.Ticks); int bytesPerPixel = 4; int width = 4000; int height = 4000; int padding = 4 - ((width * bytesPerPixel) % 4); padding = (padding == 4 ? 0 : padding); int stride = (width * bytesPerPixel) + padding; UInt32[] pixels = new UInt32[width * height]; GCHandle gchPixels = GCHandle.Alloc(pixels, GCHandleType.Pinned); using (Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap(width, height, stride, PixelFormat.Format32bppPArgb, gchPixels.AddrOfPinnedObject())) { for (int y = 0; y < height; y++) { int row = (y * width); for (int x = 0; x < width; x++) { pixels[row + x] = (uint)r.Next(); } } bmp.Save(@"c:\test.jpg", ImageFormat.Jpeg); } gchPixels.Free();
