• Dynamic data validation in ASP.NET MVC

  I've recently read about the model validation capabilities of ASP.NET MVC which are all very cool until a certain point. What happens if the application doesn't know the data that it works with because it is all stored in DB and built together at runtime. Just like in Drupal, I'd like to be able to define custom types at runtime, and assign runtime validation rules as well. Obviously, the idea of assigning attributes to well established models is now gone. What else could be done ? I am thinking in terms of rules being stored as JSON objects in the DB fields or something like that.

• ASP.net Text Box Enter button pressed hell

  Basically I have an asp.net website with login and search pages. Currently, I have no idea why, when ever a user hits enter in either of the login text boxes (user name/password) or in the Seach text box, the website is redirected to the default page. I have no idea why this is happening, I've tried setting defaultButton on both the panel containing the search and the login panel but that doesnt seem to work. I've also tried catching the key press event with javascript which isnt working either. I have no idea what event is being fired and why, or why it seems to override everything I try to do. Anyone seen anything like this before?

• VBA Tab Key putting actual Tab Value in Text Box instead of navigating to next control

  I have a VBA form (in Excel if that matters) that contains text boxes. On three occasions, I have found myself pressing the tab key to navigate to the next control, but instead an actual TAB is being put in the text box. The form normally acts as it should, but it does concern me that this gremlin is showing up sporadically. It has shown up on Office 2003 as well as Office 2007 on two different computers. Has anyone else encountered this problem and, if so, how did you fix it?

• Getting the DirectShow VideoRender filter to respond to MediaType changes on its Input Pin?

  Below is the code extract from my decoder transform filter which takes in data from my source filter which is taking RTP network data from an IP camera. The source filter, decode filter can dynamically respond to changes in the camera image dimensions since I need to handle resolution changes in the decode library. I've used the 'ReceiveConnection' method as described in the DirectShow help, passing the new MediaType data in the next sample. However, I can't get the Video Mixing Renderer to accept the resolution changes dynamically even though the renderer will render the different resolution if the graph is stopped and restarted. Can anyone point out what I need to do to get the renderer to handle dynamic resolution changes?   I have multiple client databases that I need to hit on the fly and I am having trouble getting the code I have to work. At first I was just storing a connection string in a clinet object in the db, pulling it out based on logged-in user, and passing it to linq data context constructor. This works fine in my development enviorment but is failing on the Winhost server I am using. It is running SQL 2008. I am getting a "The current configuration system does not support user scoped settings." error. Any help or guidance on this issue is greatly appreciated. Greg

  There may be an easier way, and if there is I'm all for it. However - my ASP.NET page has a TON of controls on it, and I've given them all ID's that start with underscore. I copied all the markup into Notepad++ and I'm trying to find a regular expression that will find everything but the controls and replace it with whitespace. that way I'll have a text file that has all my control names which I'll probably throw into Excel and do some string manipulation to add ".Text = " etc. Any suggestions?

• Dynamic margin (or simulation of margin) between left floated divs

  I have a number of divs floated left. When browser is resized they move down or up based on how many can fit on the line. I was wondering if there is a way to dynamically (with css) have those divs align (or have margin) in a way, that they would always fill the entire screen space by having their marhin resize? In other words margin between them would resize while browser is resized, but as soon as another div can fit it will be added in the line, or if minimum margin is reached and passed another div goes to next line while margins expand again. • .net c# text box date with mask - setup

  I have a c# .net project and want an input text box for a date value. I want it to display a default value of mm/dd/yyyy and then allow users to enter valid dates. I have tried using a masked text box but it doesn't like having the above format. If i try and use //__ looks naff and so does 00/00/0000 and of course if you put in '0' like 03/11/2009 you get 3/11/29 because the 0's are deleted as part of the mask - so what is the best way to set up an input box like this, effectively with a mask, only allowing numbers, and validation (though at this point I am not so worried about that). This seems so simple and isn't. Thanks, R.

Here is my problem, I need to display the users current street and city as text in my iPhone app (See picture). I have seen many posts on stack overflow and other websites about how to do this but they are all just code examples. As I said before, I am a extreme beginner. I just need to show the MKReverseGeocoder and its output as text in my application. If someone could walk me through how/where to create the ReverseGeocoder and how to make it show up in my application I would be extremely grateful. I have searched for hours trying to find a beginner example but alas I cannot find one that lays it out step by step. I hope this can help me out.

  There is a common feature of modern browsers where a user can select some text and drag it to an input field. Within the same field it causes moving of text, between different fields it does copying. How do I disable that? If there is no portable way, I am mostly interested in firefox. This is an intranet webapp, so I am also interested in modifying the browser/getting a plugin to do this. Maybe some system-level settings (I`m on windows XP)? I need to keep the default select-copy-paste functionality. The background is I have multiple-field data entry forms, and users often drag something by mistake.

  Is there a way in CSS to make the background of an element semi-transparent, but still have the text of the element non-transparent? (Without separating the text and background in two elements positioned over eachother.) I've tried <p style="position:absolute;background-color:green;filter:alpha(opacity=60);opacity:.6;"><span style="color:white;filter:alpha(opacity=100);opacity:1;">Hello world</span></p> But it looks like child elements are subjected to the opacity of their parent(s), so 'opacity:1' is still drawn as 'opacity:.6' from the parent.

  Hi guys, I am using JQuery UI tabs. When i create a tab using the "$("#" + target).tabs('add', url, title);" method it opens a tab and calls an ajax form correctly.. Now the problem exists when i open an identical tab containing the identical form. When the form is submitted using the forms plugin, things mess up. I am presuming this is due to multiple areas having the same div id and so the form plugin does not know which to update.. Is there a work around for this at all ??

• Increased kerning on website text

  We're developing a site for a client right now and my boss (designer only) is once again making me increase letter-spacing on the text so that it looks 'prettier'. I am of the firm belief that this often causes eye-strain and hinders readability in body copy, but being the boss, she is of course always 'right' until I can provide her with examples showing why she's wrong (generally pretty easy). In this case, however, I can't find any articles talking about eye-strain and kerning, so I figured I'd ask what you guys think about the issue of increased letter-spacing in web text. Take a look at http://sparktoignite.com/allograft/process.php and tell me how you feel about the body copy. We're using font-embedding, so you'll only see the proper font in FF, Safari, and Chrome. Let me know what you guys think about the readability and eye-strain caused by the font. My boss currently thinks it's 100% perfect (she wanted the kerning increased further, but I talked her down luckily).

I like the solution offered at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1818670/how-to-control-positioning-of-jqueryui-datepicker for overriding the _checkOffset fn: $.extend(window.DP_jQuery.datepicker,{_checkOffset:function(inst,offset,isFixed){return offset}}); However, this results in a 'window.DP_jQuery is undefined' error. Upon inspection, I can see that the DP_jQuery object in the DOM gets named with a random string, like so: DP_jQuery_123456. If I use this full name in the above code, it works wonderfully. My question is whether there's a way to exend the _checkOffset fn for a datepicker instance without knowing before-hand what the instance name is? For example, can I use some sort of wildcard to select all datepicker instances that begin with 'DP_jQuery_'? Thanks
