  • How do I find iTunes library folder on Mac and Windows?

    I made an application that parse the iTunes library to retrieve its content. It works fine in most cases but if a user moved his library somewhere else than the default iTunes folder (see: http://lifehacker.com/238296/ultranewb--how-to-move-your-itunes-library-to-an-external-drive), then I need a way to find this path. On Mac, I was looking into ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist. There is a setting called "alis:1:iTunes Library Location" but it contains several parameters all concatenated and converted to hexadecimal. On Windows, I found this file "C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml" that contains a setting "iTunes Library XML Location:1" but this one is encoded. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • What should I do to recompile my static library (originally written in VS6) in visual studio 2008?

    There is a static library A with c++ classes wrapped by a C API in VS6. I developed a static library B in VS6 using callbacks from library A. The library B is used by the program C (commercial software) as a "user defined library" and linked to produce the program D. Questions: 1) When program C uses VS 6 it works, should it work fine with VS 2008? Because it doesn't. 2) When I tried to recompile library B in VS 2008 it gave me a .lib file with only 28KB, and the old one had more than 2MB. Is it ok? What Am I probably doing wrong? Notice that each of the missing dependencies is followed by the words (installed) or the words (atomic) - for the name of the repository. When I try to install any of these sub-dependencies, the installation fails (either due to missing dependencies or since the rpm is already installed). For example, if I try to install a rpm for "libopenvas_hg.so.3", I get an error message indicating that it is already installed. Yet "libopenvas_hg.so.3" is listed as a missing dependency. Why? Do I need to uninstall all of the "missing" dependences first?

  • Using the Static Code Analysis feature of Visual Studio (Premium/Ultimate) to find memory leakage problems

    Memory for managed code is handled by the garbage collector, but if you use any kind of unmanaged code, like native resources of any kind, open files, streams and window handles, your application may leak memory if these are not properly handled.  To handle such resources the classes that own these in your application should implement the IDisposable interface, and preferably implement it according to the pattern described for that interface. When you suspect a memory leak, the immediate impulse would be to start up a memory profiler and start digging into that.   However, before you follow that impulse, do a Static Code Analysis run with a ruleset tuned to finding possible memory leaks in your code.  If you get any warnings from this, fix them before you go on with the profiling. How to use a ruleset In Visual Studio 2010 (Premium and Ultimate editions) you can define your own rulesets containing a list of Static Code Analysis checks.   I have defined the memory checks as shown in the lists below as ruleset files, which can be downloaded – see bottom of this post.  When you get them, you can easily attach them to every project in your solution using the Solution Properties dialog. Right click the solution, and choose Properties at the bottom, or use the Analyze menu and choose “Configure Code Analysis for Solution”: In this dialog you can now choose the Memorycheck ruleset for every project you want to investigate.  Pressing Apply or Ok opens every project file and changes the projects code analysis ruleset to the one we have specified here. How to define your own ruleset  (skip this if you just download my predefined rulesets) If you want to define the ruleset yourself, open the properties on any project, choose Code Analysis tab near the bottom, choose any ruleset in the drop box and press Open Clear out all the rules by selecting “Source Rule Sets” in the Group By box, and unselect the box Change the Group By box to ID, and select the checks you want to include from the lists below. Note that you can change the action for each check to either warning, error or none, none being the same as unchecking the check.   Now go to the properties window and set a new name and description for your ruleset. Then save (File/Save as) the ruleset using the new name as its name, and use it for your projects as detailed above. It can also be wise to add the ruleset to your solution as a solution item. That way it’s there if you want to enable Code Analysis in some of your TFS builds.   Running the code analysis In Visual Studio 2010 you can either do your code analysis project by project using the context menu in the solution explorer and choose “Run Code Analysis”, you can define a new solution configuration, call it for example Debug (Code Analysis), in for each project here enable the Enable Code Analysis on Build   In Visual Studio Dev-11 it is all much simpler, just go to the Solution root in the Solution explorer, right click and choose “Run code analysis on solution”.     The ruleset checks The following list is the essential and critical memory checks.  CheckID Message Can be ignored ?   • PHP SOAP Error: maximum string content length quota (8192) has been exceeded while reading XML data

    I am trying to use bing with PHP SOAP. It works fine for short strings. But for larger string I get following error: Fatal error: Uncaught SoapFault exception: [a:DeserializationFailed] The formatter threw an exception while trying to deserialize the message: Error in deserializing body of request message for operation 'Translate'. The maximum string content length quota (8192) has been exceeded while reading XML data. This quota may be increased by changing the MaxStringContentLength property on the XmlDictionaryReaderQuotas object used when creating the XML reader. Line 9, position 227. in ........ I am using XAMPP in windows 7. All the solution I found are for .net not the PHP. PHP has no web.config file as far as I concern. Any idea how can I solve it. Thank you Sadi

  • Configuring WCF to Handle a Signature on a SOAP Message from an Oracle Server

    I'm trying to use WCF to consume a web service provided by a third-party's Oracle Application Server. I pass a username and password and as part of the response the web service returns a standard security tag in the header which includes a digest and signature. With my current setup, I successfully send a request to the server and the web service sends the expected response data back. However, when parsing the response WCF throws a MessageSecurityException, with an InnerException.Message of "Supporting token signatures not expected." My guess is that WCF wants me to configure it to handle the signature and verify it. I have a certificate from the third party that hosts the web service that I should be able to use to verify the signature. As far as I know behaviors must be declared in section in wcf.config. How can I add reference there to my behavior class from service assembly? An second thing is that I the following example the create local host, but how I can add headers used in constructor when I use service reference and it will already create instance of web service, right?   • What are some good/reputable/widely-used libraries written in VB.NET?

    Generally speaking, when VB.NET and C# are compared, there is a lot of strong support for C#, accompanied by some bashing of VB.NET until a respected developer comes along and acts as The Voice Of Reason, pointing out that while VB prior to VB.NET had its fair share of issues, VB.NET is really a very strong, fully OOP language that is, feature-wise, right about on par with C# (with the exception of certain things like a full-bodied lamba syntax [pre-VB10] or the yield keyword, as many C# faithfuls are quick to point out). I myself, having written plenty of code in both VB.NET and C#, fall squarely in the "I prefer C#, but don't consider VB.NET any less of a language" camp. However, one thing I have noticed is that when it comes to respected and/or widely-used libraries for .NET, everyting is written in C#. Or at least that's been my impression. This strikes me as a little strange because, aside from the abovementioned sprinkling of nice features (in particular the yield keyword), I tend to view the VB.NET/C# divide as primarily a matter of personal taste. Obviously, plenty of developers prefer C#. But I personally know some developers (good ones) who prefer VB.NET, which would lead me to suspect that surely some libraries (good ones) would be written in VB.NET. They must be out there, and I just haven't found them. What are some good libraries that've been written in VB.NET? The best would be open source, as that would allow interested developers to take a look at some good VB.NET code and see how effective the language can be when used properly. But I'd be interested to know about any libraries at all, particularly reputable ones.

  • .NET Web Service (asmx) Timeout Problem

    I'm connecting to a vendor-supplied web ASMX service and sending a set of data over the wire. My first attempt hit the 1 minute timeout that Visual Studio throws in by default in the app.config file when you add a service reference to a project. I increased it to 10 minutes, another timeout. 1 hour, another timeout: Error: System.TimeoutException: The request channel timed out while waiting for a reply after 00:59:59.6874880. Increase the timeout value passed to the call to Request or increase the SendTimeout value on the Binding. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. ---> System.TimeoutE xception: The HTTP request to 'http://servername/servicename.asmx' has exceeded the allotted timeout of 01:00:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. ---> System.Net.WebExcept ion: The operation has timed out at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() [... lengthly stacktrace follows] I contacted the vendor. They confirmed the call may take over an hour (don't ask, they are the bane of my existence.) I increased the timeout to 10 hours to be on the safe side. However the web service call continues to time out at 1 hour. Unfortunately every change takes at least an additional hour to test. Is there some internal limit that I'm bumping into - another timeout setting to be changed somewhere? All changes to these settings up to one hour had the expected effect. Thanks for any help you can provide!

    Hey. I currently want to develop a simple program in Java that sends out email. Not just a few emails, but actually a lot (10k+) I have a subscribers list that all agree to it, by the way. Anyway, I cannot send these emails via Gmail or anything like that - They do not allow that many emails to be sent. So the basic question is: How do I send emails by making the actual sending computer an email server? I'm sure I should use some libraries, I heard about ChillKat or something like that. Could anyone explain / help me out? Would be very much appreciated.

  • use stream_socket_client to retrieve 2 remote files at the same time

    I have a script in PHP which retrieves two very similar files and performs some tasks on the data then outputs a result. I'm currently using curl and getting one, processing it, then getting the other and processing it. I want to switch to stream_socket_client as I've heard you can retrieve both files at the same time and do the processing once they have been retrieved but I am unsure how to do this.
