• Oracle's Cloud Strategie nach der OOW 2012

  Auf der diesjährigen Oracle Open World war „die Cloud“ nicht nur ein vielbenutztes Buzzword, sondern auch Anlass für einige interessante Ankündigungen. Wer keine Zeit oder Muße hatte, sich die entsprechenden Keynotes von Larry Ellison und Thomas Kurian anzuhören, erfährt in diesem Artikel die wesentlichen Änderungen. Die erste Neuerung: Oracle wird in Zukunft alle drei „Sorten“ bzw. „Ebenen“ von Cloud Computing anbieten: SaaS (Software as a Service) – die Bereitstellung von kompletten Fachanwendungen z.B. aus der eBusiness Suite in Form eines Mietmodells - gab es schon länger. Abgesehen von der Tatsache, dass hier zusätzliche/neuere Komponenten und Module der durch die letzten Zukäufe von Oracle noch breiter gewordenen Palette angeboten werden, ändert sich am Prinzip nichts. Bei PaaS (Plattform as a Service) sind vor allem die beiden bereits letztes Jahr angekündigten Dienste „Database Service“ (basierend auf APEX) und „Java Service“ (basierend auf Weblogic) zu nennen, für die nun auch konkrete Pakete und Preise (ca.175$ bis 2000$/Monat) sowie die Möglichkeit zur Anmeldung auf http://cloud.oracle.com vorliegen. Interessanterweise gehört auch ein sog. „Social Service“ in diese Schicht, mit der Oracle Kunden ihre Anwendungen in Zukunft auf standardisierte Weise durch Social Networking Funktionalität wie z.B. Microblogging erweitern können.Ebenso neu angekündigt wurde ein "Developer Service", welcher z.B. Sourcecode-Verwaltung durch GIT Repositories sowie Wikis und Issue Tracking bereit stellen soll. Die dort mittels JDeveloper, Netbeans oder Eclipse erstellten Applikationen können dann nahtlos innerhalb kürzester Zeit in den Java Service deployed werden. Komplett neu und für einige sicher überraschend ist hingegen der Bereich IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) – Hier geht es um die Bereitstellung von Basis-Infrastrukturkomponenten wie Storage, Rechenleistung (letztlich also Betriebssysteme / VMs) und Messaging / Queueing. Genaue Details oder Preise zu den IaaS Angeboten sind noch nicht bekannt, aber zumindest zu den Storage- und Messaging Services können grundlegende Daten bereits auf http://cloud.oracle.com eingesehen werden Die zweite Neuerung: Kunden können in Zukunft als Alternative zum Betrieb der o.g. „Oracle Cloud“, diese auch komplett hinter ihrer eigenen Firewall aufbauen lassen. Mit anderen Worten: Oracle baut und betreibt bei diesem als „Oracle Private Cloud“ bezeichneten Angebot alle Komponenten selbst – die Daten verlassen aber niemals das Gebäude des Kunden. Letzteres ist gerade bei uns im Datenschutz-sensiblen Deutschland ein wichtiger Aspekt. Da die verwendeten Komponenten in beiden Fällen die gleichen sind, ist auch ein „Umziehen“ oder Erweitern der Private Cloud in die Public Cloud (oder zurück) ohne Änderungen an den Anwendungen möglich. Der Möglichkeit einer "Hybrid Cloud", bei der Teile einer Anwendung hinter der eigenen Firewall, andere Teile aber in der Oracle Cloud laufen, wird damit Realität.

• Is there a way to take credit cards on my website without needing a merchant account/payment gateway?

  I've been looking for a service like this but can't find one -- it boggles my mind that such a thing doesn't exist. The ideal thing I'm looking for would be something like this: User fills out a form on my website I submit data to the service (cc #, payment amount) I get paid perhaps monthly by the service the amounts that were charged (less a fee) This is more or less how accepting paypal for payments works, except it takes my users to paypal's site and forces them to create a paypal account etc, which I'd like to avoid. Does such a service exist?

• I just ordered 70/10 internet service, and need a new router I think?

  Before I had 25/5 service and the N standard router did just fine. Now it doesn't do the job. Online speedtest reads at 82 so I have the line. But my laptop is getting less than 30 in my room. My laptop has the following WiFi card: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/centrino-advanced-n-6205.html What is this talk about 2.4 and 5GHz? Can my laptop be connected at once over both bands? And would that let me use the full 70Mb over Wi-Fi?

• Can I config different VIP per service pointing same Real servers with Cisco ACE?

  I'm using Cisco ACE Module with Cisco Catalyst 6504. There are 2 real servers connected to Switch, and runs three different services. (TCP 82, 83 and 84) I have to use three different URLs per service. (for example, a.com for TCP 82, b.com for TCP 83 and c.com for TCP 84) Therefore, I need three IPs. The problem is, is it possible that configure 3 different VIPs with same real servers with Cisco ACE Module? I mean, if VIPs are 1.1.1.1, 2.2.2.2, 3.3.3.3 and real servers are 4.4.4.4, 5.5.5.5, can I configure as following : VIP 1.1.1.1:82 Real Server 4.4.4.4:82, 5.5.5.5:82 VIP 2.2.2.2:83 Real Server 4.4.4.4:83, 5.5.5.5:83 VIP 3.3.3.3:84 Real Server 4.4.4.4:84, 5.5.5.5:84 I think, logically, it's possible. But is it REALLy possible?

• How to change from own Internal/Extrernal DNS to use an outsourced service like DNS Made Easy?

  Our current setup is a co-located linux box with an openvz kernel with a handful virtual containers for www, mail etc. and one container run Bind9 with a split views configuration serving External and Internal DNS. The HW-Node runs a shorewall firewall and all containers uses private ip's. The box (and DNS) basically handles web and mail for a handful domains and it works well but we still think it would be a good idea to outsource the public DNS and now to my question... Although I am fairly comfortable with the server stuff and DNS, I'm far from a pro and guess I basically need some confirmation that I am thinking in the right direction in that I basically just move the content of our external view (with zone files) to the external service and keep the internal view (or actually remove the view), update the new external DNS with thier names servers, update the info at my registrar and wait for propagation or have I missed something?   Suppose you are apart from the mobile or whatever phone (so can't call 112 or 911 or 999), but have have access to a computer with internet connection. How do you call/message an emergency service (of whatever country in hope they will route the request to the correct destination) using only Internet? Maybe there's some 911-like website or public SIP or whatever? Or better go to some chat/forum/StackExchange/whatever and ask somebody to make a call for you? (will users really believe?) /* 1. • Which is the most independent and secure email service? [closed]

  I'm looking for a provider with a secure transfer protocol (like https) Secured (as much as it is possible) from being hacked or spied on. One that won't scan my email in order to display more accurate ads. One that won't sell my personal information. One that won't disclose my emails to some sort of government (it probably must be based outside of US or Chinese jurisdiction I reckon) Encrypted if possible. It can be simple and without huge storage. If you know/use any similar service I would be really grateful if you could point me there. Cheerz

• How can I use Windows Firewall to only permit the Windows Update service to make an outbound connection?

  I'm trying to tailor my Windows Firewall settings (using the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security console) to only permit programs that need to access the Internet with an outbound connection to do so. This works fine for normal applications as I can just allow the program, but services that load in the svchost.exe process are a problem. The only services I actually need to give access to are Windows Update and the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (and even that, I would only like Windows Update to be able to submit jobs to, but that's another issue.) Is there a method to only allow these to be permitted an outbound connection, and not any of the other services loaded in svchost?

• Re-using port 443 for another service - is it possible?

  The ultimate goal is to allow a remote data connection service to operate on port 443 on a the SQL server. The application accessing the connection is behind a firewall and it is because of the client's reluctance to open another port that I have been asked to try and get this working. The current environment is Windows 2003 R2 (SP2) and SQL Server 2005. IIS is not installed, but when I try and install the third party connection software (SequeLink) it won't as it reports something is still configured on/using port 443. Netstat does not show anything listening on the port and I've tried editing the system32\drivers\etc\services file removing any reference to port 443 and also using sc delete to delete the HTTP and HTTPFilter (HTTP SSL in services console) services to see if this would help. Rebooting after each change. What could still be using the port? Is what I'm trying even possible (I have my doubts but have to investigate every avenue)? Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I have an issue because they come from svchost.exe and go to web content/application delivery providers - or similar: 5 IP in range: 82.96.58.0 - 82.96.58.255 --> Akamai Technologies akamaitechnologies.com 3 IP in range: 93.150.110.0 - 93.158.111.255 --> Akamai Technologies akamaitechnologies.com 2 IP in range: 87.248.194.0 - 87.248.223.255 --> LLNW Europe 2 llnw.net 205.234.175.175 --> CacheNetworks, Inc. cachefly.net 188.121.36.239 --> Go Daddy Netherlands B.V. secureserver.net So is it possible to know which service does a particular connection? Or what's your recommendation about the rules applied to these ones? (Comodo Firewall & Windows 7)

• Is the hosts file ignored in windows if DNS Client service is running?

  I've seen a number of articles about how to edit the hosts file in Windows 7, but it's all about how to open notepad as administrator, not the actual behavior of the dns lookups afterward. I've read that the hosts file is ignored in XP SP2 if DNS Client service is running. I have tried this on my XP machine and it seems to be true. I can see how it is a security danger to have a hosts file that user programs could modify. If it could write to hosts, then any malware could spoof dns locally with minimal difficulty. I'm trying to use the hosts file for testing stuff on my local network without it going to the live site on the internet. At the same time I want to be able to use dns on the normal internet. Mostly though I just want to understand the rules on the newer windows systems. Thanks!

  Hello, I've tried to install vmware server 2 on a small business server 2008 host and IIS 7 stopped working. Everytime I tried to access any website on the server including OWA I get HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable. I've tried to restart the IIS services and websites with no luck. Removed vmware server and the problem persists. There are no errors in the application logs concerning IIS or anything related. I'm stumped. Does anyone have an idea what's happenning here and how to fix it?

• What service can hold CPU at lowest frequency possible when on battery load under Ubuntu?

  When I'm running on battery even with "performance" frequency scaling governor, something regularly lowers CPU speed to it's lowest value. I don't really want that, my AC strip usually in another room so I don't really need to save power. How can I find what service doing that? laptop_mode is disabled so that's not it. Update: Looks like CPU being scaled down only if it is under load. If it is more or less idle, it could stay on any frequency pretty much forever, but once it gets loaded, it quickly jumps to it's lowest frequency.   Hello, I recentely discovered an ability to backup personal data to online server but I was never surprised when I didn't found a popular service provides filtering capabilities, i.e. all of them they backup all the contents of specific folder. Are there any free options with filtering? To be specific, I need following features: Backup to online server. Automatic but bandwidth-transparent backup, i.e. it will backup my files automatically but won't try to do it if I'm heavily using the computer or internet at the moment. Individual filtering settings for folders, i.e. I want to specify which files to backup in every folder. Some free plan (since I'm not going to use more than 500MB of space).

• After a week of smooth running, my Dell t310 servername reverted to the service tag and screwed everything up!

  Has this happened to anyone else? Began having a tremedous amount of problems with our brand new Dell SBS 2011 T310 server and after nearly 15 hours will Dell support, they determined that the server name hade reverted to DXXXXXXXX ("D: + the service tag). The Dell tech said that this was a major major problem. I'm the only person with any access to the machine and I didn't attempt to change the server name. The tech said it didn't look as if anyone had hacked the box but something had replaced "OurCompanyServer" with "DXX12XX" It would seem to me, simply changing the server name back to what I originally had would correct the problem, but the Dell tech said it wasn't that easy. Anyone encounter this?
