• Question about domain models & their visibility...

  I was involved in an interesting debate about the visibility of domain models & was wondering if people here have any good guidance. Per my understanding of MDA, we need not expose the domain model throughout the application layers & tiers The reason being that any change to the domain model has an impact in the overall application The wise thing to do would be to expose light-weight object (DTO's) which are a small sub-set of the domain model to abstract the actual model On the flip side, any change to the domain model would mean changing various DTO's throughout the application for the change to be visible, while if we do expose the domain model, then the change is in a single location Hope to see some comments & thoughts about this. Appreciate all the help!

• StackOverflow WordPress Plugin: Sidebar Widget [closed]

  I used the idea from "StackOverflow badge to show in your blog" from here to develop a small WordPress plugin to show your SO reputation and badges on your WordPress weblog sidebar. It's awfully lacking some graphic design, style, color, etc. I also thought of adding the user avatar, and images for the different badges. But it's working so far, and it's pretty late and I have to get some sleep. But I'll add the stuff I mentioned tomorrow. That was quite an interesting PHP challenge. • using subset but old variables still left

  I am working with a data set, which is basically daily usage data (let's just say variable X and Y) by different cities (about 150 cities). I have created a subset of data for only specific cities, choosing just 3 of the 150 cities. Then when I do tapply by cities, I get means for 3 cities but also get NA for all other 147 cities that was in the data set. I am using the below coding df<-read.csv(...) df_sub<-subset(df,df$City==1|df$City==3|df$City==19) X_Breakdown<-tapply(X,df_sub$City, mean, na.rm=TRUE) Print(X_Breakdown) City 1 City 2 15 NA City 3 City 4 12 NA City 5 City 6 NA NA Hope you get the idea. I would like to get a dataset that only contains the 3 cities that I'm interested in. It seems that the set of variables is encoded in R, is there a way to fix this? Kindly advise. Thanks

• Export MySQL Data as Insert Statements

  Hi All, I'm working in Ubuntu with MySql and I also have Query Browser and Administrator installed, I'm not afraid of the command line either if it helps. I want simply to be able to run a query and see a result set but then convert that result set into a series of commands that could be used to create the same rows in a table of an identical schema. I hope the question makes sense, it's quite a simple problem and one that must have been solved but I can't for the life of me work out where this kind of conversion is made available.   Hi..:) For documentation and presentation purposes, we often find professionals/students creating SRS, coding guidelines etc. for these things there is some kind of a checklist which one could use to appropriately match what could relate to a specific case and accordingly one does a documentation for each. On those grounds could you please give me some sort of a checklist( any points/guidelines) one could use for going about Implementation( in the form of Implementation Details) in Python and C++ . Although this might sound specific as the query is "Implementation Details" and is different for different cases as one goes about the REAL implementation, I just want a SET of guidelines one should follow ( Preferably In Python, C++ specific, even for any other language is Welcome) if this( Implementation Details ) has to also be documented or presented. Hope the question is clear, I am sorry if it still sounds ambiguous, I guess this is the best I could do to frame my query. Thank you for your time...:)

• 'is instanceof' Interface bad design

  Say I have a class A class A { Z source; } Now, the context tells me that 'Z' can be an instance of different classes (say, B and C) which doesn't share any common class in their inheritance tree. I guess the naive approach is to make 'Z' an Interface class, and make classes B and C implement it. But something still doesn't convince me because every time an instance of class A is used, I need to know the type of 'source'. So all finishes in multiple 'ifs' making 'is instanceof' which doesn't sound quite nice. Maybe in the future some other class implements Z, and having hardcoded 'ifs' of this type definitely could break something. The escence of the problem is that I cannot resolve the issue by adding functions to Z, because the work done in each instance type of Z is different. I hope someone can give me and advice, maybe about some useful design pattern. Thanks

  I have a form with 3 sections in it. Each section has a dedicated div for fairly long contextual help messages regarding the input that has focus. My question is, if I give each of these help divs a class of "form-tip" and each input that has a tip the class "has-tip", how can I get the tip to always show up in the previous "form-tip" div? Something like: $('.has-tip').each(focus(function() { var tip = $(this).attr('title'); // Find most recent $('.form-tip') in the DOM and populate it with tip })); I hope that makes sense...   I'm trying to import data from a csv file to some html code to use it in a graph I have already coded. I'm trying to use PHP and fgetcsv to create arrays for each separate piece of data to use PHP to put it into the html code. I know how to open the csv file and to print it using PHP, and how to print each separate row, but not each piece of data separated by a comma. Is there a way to do this? If this helps, this is the csv data I am trying to import. • A simple php form in Joomla?!

  Hi all, Someone came to me and asked me if I could add a form to their Joomla page. I figured this should be easy since Joomla is widely used and such thing should be supported. I'm googling arround for 1,5h now, and I have given 4 formcreators a try but this is driving me crazy. The editors are all very complex for the simplest task I want. A simple form with: 5 text input; 1 radio selection criteria; the message a visitor sends. So I've given pretty much up upon formbuilders. • Problem in serializing

  Hello Guyz, Presently I need to serialize one of my object which contains more my own classes object. But the problem is I dont want to save it in a file and then retrieve it into memory stream. Is there any way to directly serialize my object into stream. I used BinaryFormatter for seializing. First I used a MemoryStream directly to take serialize output but it is giving error at time of deserialization. But later when I serialize it with a file then close it and again reopen it , it works perfectly. But I want to take it direct into stream because in my program I need to do it frequently to pass it into network client. And using file repeatedly might slow down my software. Hope I clear my problem. Any Sugetion ?

• PHP save a page then redirect to previous page(ajax)

  Dear all, I would like to ask for how to redirect to previous page (ajax paging). Example, Let's say currently I am in page 5, then I click on one record, after I edit it, I would like to go back to that page 5 not page 1. The problem is my paging is using ajax, http://domain/photo/#5 I try to use $_SERVER[http_referer], but I only get http://domain/photo , I not able to get # and the value. What is the best way to redirect back to the previous paging. My last choice is using $_SESSION. Hope I can get better answer here. Thx.

  i create a simple cron job by editing /etc/crontab as following: */2 * * * * * php /Users/min/Documents/testcron.php and the testcron.php is simple as: <?php $fd = fopen("/Users/min/Documents/testcron.txt", 'a'); fwrite($fd, "test--cron--\n"); fclose($fd); ?> then simply save the crontab file and hope magic happen, but nothing happened. i even run the command manually and it worked. php /Users/min/Documents/testcron.php anyone have any idea? • Seeking free ODBC database optimization tool for non-experts

  I'm a database n00b and am reading as many books as I can. I have been given responsibility for an ODBC tool where the databases were designed by a hardware engineer with some VB experience - which made him a s/w guru in the small firm at that time. Things are running slowly and I suspect that the db could have been designed better. I hope to learn enough to use Explain/Describe, etc maybe add some indices, but, in the meantime, is there any free for commercial use tool which can examine an ODBC database and suggest improvements. I'm just talking about db schema here, but maybe I should also be looking at optimizing Selects with Joins? Is there a tool for that? ODBC compliant.

• Can the Sequence of RecordSets in a Multiple RecordSet ADO.Net resultset be determined, controlled?

  I am using code similar to this Support / KB article to return multiple recordsets to my C# program. But I don't want C# code to be dependant on the physical sequence of the recordsets returned, in order to do it's job. So my question is, "Is there a way to determine which set of records from a multiplerecordset resultset am I currently processing?" I know I could probably decipher this indirectly by looking for a unique column name or something per resultset, but I think/hope there is a better way. P.S. I am using Visual Studio 2008 Pro & SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.

  I want to implement greatest integer function. int x = 5/3; My question is with greater numbers could there be a loss of precision as 5/3 would produce a double? EDIT: Greatest integer function is integer less than or equal to X. Example: 4.5 = 4 4 = 4 3.2 = 3 3 = 3 What I want to know is 5/3 going to produce a double? Because if so I will have loss of precision when converting to int. Hope this makes sense. RE-EDIT: What OP calls 'greatest integer' most of us call 'floor'.

  I'm trying to create a table for pseudo array variable. That looks like CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `MyArray`.`ArrayTable` ( `ID` INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL COMMENT 'Hash value of SessionID + ArrayName' , `SessionID` INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL , `ArrayName` CHAR(26) NOT NULL COMMENT '32 digit char - 6 digit longest process id (assumtion)' , `Index` INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL , `Value` TEXT NOT NULL , PRIMARY KEY (`ID`, `SessionID`) ) ENGINE = MyISAM; The table is not normalized yet, 'hope this will make it a little simpler to understand :) To avoid collission between client, there should be a differentiator between client session. For that reason i think need to know current session/process id (just like "SHOW PROCESSLIST") but really need to know IN WHICH process the query are?

  I've seen a few questions like this, but mine is a bit more specific so I hope this isn't considered a repost. I am working on a website that is built with struts 2 and hibernate. I need to dynamically populate a drop down menu using data from a sql query based on an option selected in another drop down menu. So basically when the first option is selected I need to rehit the server and get the results from a query like SELECT column FROM table WHERE option = dropDownOption On top of that, I would really like to use ajax to only refresh the affected elements, however I'm really unfamiliar with ajax. I have jquery on this project and I found they have some ajax built in, but is this a good method for using it? any advice on this topic would be appreciated.

• Can you use regular expressions in struts-config.xml?

  I'm trying to route these two url's to different Actions. We are using Struts 1.2: /abc-def/products /abc-def I tried putting this action first: <action path="/abc*/products" type="com.business.exampleAction"> <forward name="success" path="/go"/> </action> and then this one after: <action path="/abc*" type="com.business.differentExampleAction"> <forward name="success" path="/goElsewhere"/> </action> but it always goes to the second action (differentExampleAction in this case). I've tried various iterations for the , like . or (.*), but haven't found anything that actually works yet. From what I've read, it seems like the only regular-expression-like characters allowed in struts-config are the wildcard symbols (* and **), but I hope I am wrong.

  I am a long time agile advocated but one of the things that bothers me about Agile is that a lot of agile practitioners, especially the younger ones, have thrown out or are missing a whole lot of good (non Scrum, non XP) practices. Alistair Cockburn's style of writing Use Cases springs to mind; orthogonal arrays (pairwise testing) is another. I hope this is an okay forum to ask this, but since I read mostly Agile related books and articles and work with mostly Agile folk ... is there anything I'm missing? Thanks for all your help.   to simplify, I got a database of registered users, I want to count how many emails there are for each email domain name (note I do not know all domain names) for example, Users table- id | email ------------------ 1 | [email protected] 2 | [email protected]<--unknown to me 3 | [email protected]<--unknown to me 4 | [email protected] 5 | [email protected]<--unknown to me 6 | [email protected] 7 | [email protected] 8 | [email protected] ( note: I want to count each email without specifying which email exactly ) so the result I want is suffix | count hotmail.com | 3 somesite.aaa | 2 unknownsite.aaa| 1 yahoo.com | 2 again, I stress this, I do not know unknownsite.aaa nor can i mention it in a statement because it is unknown to me, i hope I am clear. So essentially I want to make a statistic of what my website users use as an email host website. but like I said and I will repeat the third time, I do not know every mailhost that exists. I am going to investigate this more, I have a feeling this is something mysql cannot handle.
