• getting input/output error from NFS client on RHEL5

  i have two RHEL5 boxes on a private network together (192.168.2.0/24) and I am trying to export a file system from one to the other but I keep getting the following error: mount.nfs: Input/output error on the client side I see this output: mount: trying 192.168.2.101 prog 100003 vers 3 prot tcp port 2049 mount: trying 192.168.2.101 prog 100005 vers 3 prot tcp port 960 and on the server side I see this: Sep 20 14:14:32 omicron mountd[18739]: authenticated mount request from 192.168.2.87:635 for /srv/nfs/web (/srv/nfs/web) but that's all. I opened up iptables so that the whole 192.168.2.0/24 network is allowed to communicate freely but the public side is locked down to 22,80 etc.... any ideas?

• new user account

  Hi I hope someone can help me... I accidentally renamed my own user name on my mac running OS X 10.4.11 and tried renaming back to what it was but now I have two accounts (the one I want to use which has all my preferences, applications, mail boxes, etc etc) is it possible to copy my settings from my original into this new user name? When I open my computer it defaults to this new account but everything is setting up from new and I just need to get access to all my work documents, mail settings etc. If there is anyone who could help out, I would be very grateful. Thank you in advance.

• Are file access times not properly maintained in Mac OS X?

  I'm trying to determine how file access times are maintained by default in Mac OS X, as I'm trying to diagnose some odd behaviour I'm seeing in a new MBP Unibody (running Snow Leopard, 10.6.2): The symptoms (drilling down to the specific behaviour that seems to be causing the issue): mutt is unable to switch to mailboxes which have recently received new mail mail is delivered by procmail, which updates the mtime of the mbox folder it is updating, but does not alter the atime (this is how new mail detection works: by comparing atime to mtime) however, both the mtime and atime of the mbox file is getting updated Through testing, it does not appear that atimes can be set separately in the filesystem: : [ether@tequila ~]$; touch test : [ether@tequila ~]$; touch -m -t 200801010000 test2 : [ether@tequila ~]$; touch -a -t 200801010000 test3 : [ether@tequila ~]$; ls -l test* -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Dec 30 11:42 test -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Jan 1 2008 test2 -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Dec 30 11:43 test3 : [ether@tequila ~]$; ls -lu test* -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Dec 30 11:42 test -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Dec 30 11:43 test2 -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Dec 30 11:43 test3 The test2 file is created with an old mtime, and the atime is set to now (as it is a new file), which is correct. To be sure this is not just behaviour seen with new files, let's modify an old file: : [ether@tequila ~]$; touch -a -t 200801010000 test : [ether@tequila ~]$; ls -l test -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Dec 30 11:42 test : [ether@tequila ~]$; ls -lu test -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Dec 30 11:45 test So it would seem that atimes cannot be set explicitly (it is always reset to "now" when either mtime or atime modifications are submitted). Is this something inherent to the filesystem itself, is it something that can be changed, or am I totally crazy and looking in the wrong place? PS. the output of mount is: : [ether@tequila ~]$; mount /dev/disk0s2 on / (hfs, local, journaled) devfs on /dev (devfs, local, nobrowse) map -hosts on /net (autofs, nosuid, automounted, nobrowse) map auto_home on /home (autofs, automounted, nobrowse) ...and Disk Utility says that the drive is of type "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".

• Unable to outside access service from inside LAN

  I have a weird port forwarding problem. I tried to open my port 22 to the outside network. I was able to access it as long as I am not inside the LAN. I can access it from my office for example. But from within the LAN, I can access the port using the local ip, but I can't access the port using the external IP. It's as if the router is blocking the loopback. I've check all my router settings, turned off anything firewall/filtering related. Any ideas?

  What should look like X Window System (X.Org) modeline to be put in xorg.conf, for high resolution (incuding recommended 1680x1050 @ 50Hz resolution) for 22" NEC LCD 22WV monitor? X.Org autodetect correctly only 800x600 and lower resolution SVGA modes, unfortunately. How can I generate proper "Modeline" line for xorg.conf? Is information included in NEC_Datasheet_LCD22WV-english.pdf enough (found on NEC LCD 22WV product info page)? What tools there are available to generate proper modeline for a LCD monitor for Linux? MS Windows (MS Windows XP Home) correctly detects and use 1680x1050 resolution; can I somehow get modeline information from MS Windows?

• Help setting up NSD daemon (DNS server)

  While searching for a secure dns server I came across the NSD project. I was really impressed by what seemed to me the best option out there that's open source. One problem thought their 'tutorial' is really not beginner friendly. I have basic DNS knoledge but what's in there is out of my league. I need to have multiple sites on this CentOS server I've recently got my hands on. They also need to receive email. Details: I have a master host and would love to set this in the way described in the rows that follow: masterhost.com -> ns1.masterhost.com mail.masterhost.com www.masterhost.com addonhost.com -> ns1.masterhost.com mail.masterhost.com www.addonhost.com And so on. Any help in setting up this DNS server please? All answers and suggestions are welcomed. Thank you in advance.

• php crashes with no core file and this message : apc_mmap failed

  Description of the problem Regularly, cron php processes crash on our production server, which result in mails with the following body : PHP Fatal error: PHP Startup: apc_mmap: mmap failed: in Unknown on line 0 Segmentation fault (core dumped) I think the Segmentation fault (core dumped) should result in core files being handled by apport and then written in /var/crashes, but the files I can see there are there since yesterday, although the last crash occured today : -rw-r----- 1 root whoopsie 1138528 mai 22 04:09 _usr_bin_php5.0.crash -rw-r----- 1 frontoffice whoopsie 1166373 mai 20 18:00 _usr_bin_php5.1005.crash -rw-r----- 1 frontoffice whoopsie 81622658 mai 22 00:05 _usr_sbin_php5-fpm.1005.crash I tried to download the last one anyway, and ran gdb /usr/sbin/php5-fpm /tmp/_usr_sbin_php5-fpm.1005.crash, only to be told that the file is not a core file (its format was not recognized). • 421 Concurrent Connections - Ratelimit from helpdesk to rackspace server

  We have Kayako helpdesk running on our WHM Linux server. When e-mails come in from customers, notifications are sent out by Kayako to a number of staff whose mailboxes are hosted on Rackspace mail servers. I noticed a large queue in the Exim queued message viewer of WHM - when looking in Exim logs I can see many lines 2012-10-13 20:06:56 1TN72s-0007Cw-1l SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection: host mx2.emailsrvr.com [173.203.2.32]: 421 Too many concurrent connections from this client. One client email results in about 5 emails to rackspace servers, perhaps 60 emails per 1 hour on average - not a huge amount but enough to cause messages to be rejected when sent in short bursts. In this case ideally if we can limit the connections sent to the rackspace server we can comply with their limit. For our requirements if we send 1 email every10 seconds or so, this would be OK. Messages to all other servers should go through a normal rates, only mx1.emailsrvr.com and mx2.emailsrvr.com should have this connection limit policy applied. Is this possible?

• verisign certificate into jboss server SSL

• Site-to-Site PPTP VPN connection between two Windows Server 2008 R2 servers

  We have two Windows Server 2008 R2 machines, one in our main office and one in a new office which we have just moved offsite. The main office has previously been handling client-to-server PPTP VPN connections. Now that we have moved our second server out of office, we want to set up a demand-dial or persistent VPN connection from the second server to the primary. Using a custom setting RRAS profile, we have successfully managed to set up a site-to-site VPN connection so that from the second server itself, it can access any of the devices in the main office and communicate back. However, any connected machines in the second office cannot use this connection, even when using the second server as gateway. The demand-dial interface is setup from the Second Server dialing into Main Server and a static route set up on RRAS for 192.168.0.0 with subnet mask 255.255.0.0 pointing down this network interface. The main office has the network of 192.168.0.0/16 (subnet mask 255.255.0.0). The second office has the network of 172.16.100.0/24 (subnet mask 255.255.255.0). What steps do we need to take to ensure traffic from the second office PCs going towards 192.168.x.x addresses use the VPN route? Many Thanks in advance for any help the community can offer. • Reminders about unresponded emails?

  In my daily e-mail often happens the following scenario: I send somebody an email which describes some problem and requests an action from the recipient. Typically, I wish to ensure that this action was taken, or at least somehow resolved; when this happens, the email recipient should notify me with a response email about what was done, and what was not and why. But, sometimes emails don't get read by the recipient, or he forgets to reply to me. At the same time, I cannot constantly keep in memory the list of all emails for which I was waiting an answer and still didn't receive it. So I wonder, is there in any email client such a feature which would allow me to somehow mark specific outgoing emails as "demanding reply"? The mail client could in this case notify me if any "demanding reply" emails still aren't replied for a long time.

• Upgrading Redmine, activerecord-mysql2-adapter not recognized

  For upgrading Redmine from 1.0.1 to 2.1.2, I need to execute the command: rake db:migrate RAILS_ENV=production However, doing so produces the following error: rake aborted! Please install the mysql2 adapter: gem install activerecord-mysql2-adapter (mysql2 is not part of the bundle. Add it to Gemfile.) I have ran gem install activerecord-mysql2-adapter, but I still get the same error when I try to run the rake ... command. How do I get my RoR app to recognize that I have the mysql2 adapter installed already? or Is there something wrong with my activerecord-mysql2-adapter installation?   I have to design a network given IPs 146.124.0.0/16 and 146.124.10.0/24. My given requirements are : at least 60 more subnets and maximum 1000 hosts per subnet and use of RIP. I have 3 routers (RA1, RA2, RA3) and 3 subnets (Sales, Logistic and Deposit). I gave WAN1 (RA1-RA3): 146.124.10.0/30, WAN2 (RA2-RA3) : 146.124.10.4/30 and WAN3 (RA1-RA2) : 146.124.10.8/30 and Sales : 146.124.0.0/22, Logistic: 146.124.4.0 and Deposit : 146.124.8.0. When I tried to configure RIP protocol, it didn’t work (I use routerSim 6). What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help please????

• Simple, user friendly and strong file encryption in Windows

  I want a colleague of mine to send me a sensitive MS-Word document via e-mail. Since Word's encryption is questionable, I would like to encrypt the file using a passphrase. Do you know of any user-friendly encryption tool that a novice user can easily use? I wouldn't like to prompt for keys or anything like this - just provide simple interface for single file encryption. EDIT: I have solved this using Putty Secure Copy, through a Linux box I have somewhere. The user downloaded scp to the same directory where the file was, and I have send him the exact scp command by mail. Nice! Would it behave in the same way? Would it advertise: "i have the network 10.0.0.0" (advertised WITHOUT subnet mask, and implicitly understood by other routers as 10.0.0.0/8) OR would it auto-summarize in a non classful way like: "i have 10.1.0.0/22" (advertised as network id and subnet mask pair) In other words, does turning on auto-summarization in RIPv2 (or other classless routing protocols) cause it to auto-summarize in a classful manner or simply auto-summarize classlessly to the best of its ability?

  I want to use a Postfix box to do two things: Relay mail from any host on the internet addressed to one of my domains to my Zimbra server Relay mail from my Zimbra server to any address on the internet. To try and accomplish this I have configured Postfix thusly: mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8, zimbra_ip/32 myorigin = zimbra_server mydestination = localhost, zimbra_server relay_domains = example.com example.org transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/transport_map local_transport = error:no mailboxes on this host transport_map looks like this: example.com smtp:[zimbra_server] example.org smtp:[zimbra_server] Now, this works and passes the Open Relay tests. However, I am seeing in the maillog that the server is relaying spam that has a From: address of <> to domains that are not mine. How do I stop this behavior?

• Why would my router have different MAC addresses for IP and IPv6 transactions?

  Today I was using tcpdump and I noticed my computer was having IPv6 traffic with a particular MAC address that I could not match with an IP using nmap or arping. After looking at the tcpdump logs a little more closely, I figured out it was another MAC address my router was using but exclusively for IPv6 traffic. 22:49:01.936830 90:0d:cb:ff:31:91 (oui Unknown) > 33:33:00:00:00:01 (oui Unknown), ethertype IPv6 (0x86dd), length 158: fe80::920d:cbff:feff:3191 > ip6-allnodes: ICMP6, router advertisement, length 104 Why would a router offer a different MAC address for IPv6?

  At work, our ISP has gone down, 3 days running. A company next door has kindly provided us with access to their wireless network, and I'd like to get our internal mail server (win 7) to become online via that wireless connection, while being accessible from within the LAN, but I'm struggling with the windows configuration. Our company's LAN subnet (wired interface) sits on 192.168.0. Neighbour's wireless subnet 192.168.1. I've tried bridging the connections but that disconnects the mail server from the Internet connection and the LAN. what do I have to do achieve this networking configuration? Kind regards, Wolfgang

• Export GFI MailArchiver e-mails for import into Exchange 2010 SP1 Personal Archiving

  We have an existing installation of GFI MailArchiver 5 with several databases of archives (perhaps 100-150GB). The goal is to export each user's archived e-mail and then import it into Exchange 2010 SP1 Personal Archives. GFI has a tool to do this, but it's very rudimentary and has severe, frankly unworkable, limitations. It only allows me to query based on the e-mail headers. Due to the fact that we have multiple aliases that may show in multiple headers (To:, Cc:), not to mention the fact that this won't cover a user's membership in a distribution group at a given point in time, this tool will not suffice. Another option is for me extract the e-mails from the GFI databases without using the tool, but this would require me to write my own tool to reconstruct them and I really would rather not go down that path. I feel very stuck on this issue. Has anyone here done a similar migration? How can this best be handled?

Our plan is therefore: Setup Exchange 2013 to retrieve email via POP Connector - Done Setup Exchange 2013 to send ALL mail via a SmartHost - Issues I have set the domains in Mail Flow Accepted Domains to Internal Relay, enabled a Smart Host for * as the domain name, and disabled/deleted the accounts that are not setup yet; however Exchange just bounces the emails with no errors.

I've read a lot of Postfix tutorials on how to set it up this way or that, but they are usually geared towards computers that are servers ie they have a static IP have a domain name are always connected to the same network My requirements are, I guess: Ability to redirect mail for local users to another server of my choosing. No listening for incoming SMTP connections - outgoing only Ability to route outgoing mail via an external SMTP server with authentication (and perhaps encryption) If not Postfix, I need an MTA which can queue up mails in case it temporarily has no internet connection.

• Why Mac cannot connect to Iphone?

  I couldn't always ssh to my iPhone from my Mac. They're both on the same wifi network but sometimes the connection is established, sometimes it failed.
