Hi.
I want to run some commands every time a user of an ubuntu 9.10 machine logs out or shuts down. What is the best way to do this? Every user uses gnome if that helps.

Can you please tell what is it doing? and if I can kill it by reboot my machine?

I installed Git on Ubuntu Lucid (latest) manually as following.
cd ~/tmp
wget http://kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/git-1.7.0.6.tar.gz
tar -xzvf git-1.7.0.6.tar.gz
cd git-1.7.0.6.tar.gz
./configure
sudo make
sudo make install
Now, how can I completely uninstall it?
I have an HP Pavilion dv6500 with a Briadcom 802.11g Network Adapter. I installed Ubuntu 10.04 and the wifi doesn't work. I am new to Linux. How do I go about troubleshooting/fixing this?
Is there a diagnostic script I can run and post results from?
Hello, I've been wondering if there's an SVN client for Ubuntu (10.04 lucid lynx) in Gnome (not kdesvn since it's for kde) with context menu, so if you right-click on an SVN repository you have the options to branch and what-not (just like tortoise SVN on windows)..
thank you.

Hello everyone, in serverfault. I just have a question? I have a load of cisco videos, that I enjoy watching. The format is wma. Is there any good wma formats out there. I have been reviewing a few, I just would like to hear it for you guys. Sorry I am using ubuntu 9.10
I have a small video that I would like to convert to black and white. I'm on Ubuntu, and I've avidemux installed. I will be OK if it can be done with some other software if not avidemux; basically, using some open source or free software, not a software for which I've to pay.
Specifically, I can neither click nor right-click by using the the touch pad. The touch pad has buttons built-into it, which is why it probably doesn't work by default.
If you followed my previous post, I switched to ubuntu to get wireless working on this netbook (which it does, yay), but now I can't right click. Lovely.
Any suggesions? I installed gsynaptics and enabled SHMConfig, but that didn't do any good.
I have a old computer with hdmi output that I installed ubuntu and boxee on. I want to set it up so I can control it with my harmony 1100 remote control.
How can I do this?
Alternatively how can I set up any remote to work with boxee there? (even IR and I can set up the 1100 from there)

I am a long time Debian user and I have no direct experience on Ubuntu, but I see it's now popular as no other distribution has ever been. What characteristics made it so popular?
I regularly update my ubuntu (10.04), and new minor versions keep accumulating on the GRUB screen. Right now I have 5 different versions listed on the GRUB, even though I always select the latest version to work with.
Am I supposed to do anything to get rid of the old version references? Do these old versions affect disk space/performance?
How can I set and limit the resolution in Ubuntu 12 to 640x480
There's not much in the xorg.conf file anymore, so I'm guessing this is no longer the place to do it?
I can't do it using the GUI either because it doesn't show me the 640x480 option.
While setting the resolution the computer is connected to a normal screen
but later it will be connected to a screen that only supports 640x480 and doesn't report its supported modes to the computer.
The only thing in my xorg.conf (by default) is this:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Default Device"
Option "NoLogo" "True"
EndSection
Is drag and drop between Filezilla and Nautilus supposed to work with Filezilla for Linux? If so, what should I check to start figuring out why it isn't working for me? I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, mostly default settings.
I'm currently running Ubuntu 9.04. I wanted to swap the stereo channels, but I couldn't find that option in the Volume Control Preferences.
Is there a way to do this without touching any configuration file? (I'm not allowed to log as root in this machine)
I have a Lenovo X200 laptop on which I am running Ubuntu 9.10. Recently, (I assume after some updating, but I really don't know) my ethernet port stopped working under Linux. A more tech/linux-savvy friend of mine was able to temporarily fix the problem by manually editing the resolv.conf file with the DNS servers he found through his connection. However, after rebooting, the problem came back and now I am looking for a more permanent solution.
Is it possible to get the windows 7 window behavior in ubuntu?
The specific part I'm talking about is the gestures thing where you can throw your window to one side and have it resize to take up that side, or to the top and have it maximize.
