  • Recurring network issues the same time every day.

    - by Peter Turner
    Something has been happening on my company's network at 9:30 every day. I'm not the sysadmin but he's not a ServerFault guy so I'm not privy to every aspect of the network but I can ask questions if follow up is needed. The symptoms are the following : Sluggish network and download speed (I don't notice it, but others do) 3Com phones start ringing without having people on the other end. We've got the following ports exposed to the public for a web server, a few other ports for communicating with our clients for tech support and a VPN. We've got a Cisco ASA blocking everything else. We've got a smallish network (less than 50 computers/vms on at any time). An Active Directory server and a few VM servers. We host our own mail server too. I'm thinking the problem is internal, but what's a good way to figure out where it's coming from?

  • Variable amount recurring billing

    - by Dave Newman
    Hi i'm looking for a payment gateway that can do recurring billing that changes month to month. Fogbugz do this, they charge based on how many active users there were that month. All of the APIs that i've found only let you set a fixed amount and it's difficult/impossible to vary the subscription amount month to month. Has anyone come across any services that do this?

  • Scheduling a recurring alarm/event

    - by martinjd
    I have a class that extends Application. In the class I make a call to AlarmManager and pass in an intent. As scheduled my EventReceiver class, that extends BroadcastReceiver, processes the call in the onReceive method. How would I call the intent again from the onReceive method to schedule another event?

  • Templated derived class in CRTP (Curiously Recurring Template Pattern)

    - by Butterwaffle
    Hi, I have a use of the CRTP that doesn't compile with g++ 4.2.1, perhaps because the derived class is itself a template? Does anyone know why this doesn't work or, better yet, how to make it work? Sample code and the compiler error are below. Source: foo.C #include <iostream> using namespace std; template<typename X, typename D> struct foo; template<typename X> struct bar : foo<X,bar<X> > { X evaluate() { return static_cast<X>( 5.3 ); } }; template<typename X> struct baz : foo<X,baz<X> > { X evaluate() { return static_cast<X>( "elk" ); } }; template<typename X, typename D> struct foo : D { X operator() () { return static_cast<D*>(this)->evaluate(); } }; template<typename X, typename D> void print_foo( foo<X,D> xyzzx ) { cout << "Foo is " << xyzzx() << "\n"; } int main() { bar<double> br; baz<const char*> bz; print_foo( br ); print_foo( bz ); return 0; } Compiler errors foo.C: In instantiation of ‘foo<double, bar<double> >’: foo.C:8: instantiated from ‘bar<double>’ foo.C:30: instantiated from here foo.C:18: error: invalid use of incomplete type ‘struct bar<double>’ foo.C:8: error: declaration of ‘struct bar<double>’ foo.C: In instantiation of ‘foo<const char*, baz<const char*> >’: foo.C:13: instantiated from ‘baz<const char*>’ foo.C:31: instantiated from here foo.C:18: error: invalid use of incomplete type ‘struct baz<const char*>’ foo.C:13: error: declaration of ‘struct baz<const char*>’

  • Authorize.Net, Silent Posts, and URL Rewriting Don't Mix

    The too long, didn't read synopsis: If you use Authorize.Net and its silent post feature and it stops working, make sure that if your website uses URL rewriting to strip or add a www to the domain name that the URL you specify for the silent post matches the URL rewriting rule because Authorize.Net's silent post feature won't resubmit the post request to URL specified via the redirect response. I have a client that uses Authorize.Net to manage and bill customers. Like many payment gateways, Authorize.Net supports recurring payments. For example, a website may charge members a monthly fee to access their services. With Authorize.Net you can provide the billing amount and schedule and at each interval Authorize.Net will automatically charge the customer's credit card and deposit the funds to your account. You may want to do something whenever Authorize.Net performs a recurring payment. For instance, if the recurring payment charge was a success you would extend the customer's service; if the transaction was denied then you would cancel their service (or whatever). To accomodate this, Authorize.Net offers a silent post feature. Properly configured, Authorize.Net will send an HTTP request that contains details of the recurring payment transaction to a URL that you specify. This URL could be an ASP.NET page on your server that then parses the data from Authorize.Net and updates the specified customer's account accordingly. (Of course, you can always view the history of recurring payments through the reporting interface on Authorize.Net's website; the silent post feature gives you a way to programmatically respond to a recurring payment.) Recently, this client of mine that uses Authorize.Net informed me that several paying customers were telling him that their access to the site had been cut off even though their credit cards had been recently billed. Looking through our logs, I noticed that we had not shown any recurring payment log activity for over a month. I figured one of two things must be going on: either Authorize.Net wasn't sending us the silent post requests anymore or the page that was processing them wasn't doing so correctly. I started by verifying that our Authorize.Net account was properly setup to use the silent post feature and that it was pointing to the correct URL. Authorize.Net's site indicated the silent post was configured and that recurring payment transaction details were being sent to http://example.com/AuthorizeNetProcessingPage.aspx. Next, I wanted to determine what information was getting sent to that URL.The application was setup tolog the parsed results of the Authorize.Net request, such as what customer the recurring payment applied to; however,we were not logging the actual HTTP request coming from Authorize.Net. I contacted Authorize.Net's support to inquire if they logged the HTTP request send via the silent post feature and was told that they did not. I decided to add a bit of code to log the incoming HTTP request, which you can do by using the Request object's SaveAs method. This allowed me to saveevery incoming HTTP request to the silent post page to a text file on the server. Upon the next recurring payment, I was able to see the HTTP request being received by the page: GET /AuthorizeNetProcessingPage.aspx HTTP/1.1Connection: CloseAccept: */*Host: www.example.com That was it. Two things alarmed me: first, the request was obviously a GET and not a POST; second, there was no POST body (obviously), which is where Authorize.Net passes along thedetails of the recurring payment transaction.What stuck out was the Host header, which differed slightly from the silent post URL configured in Authorize.Net. Specifically, the Host header in the above logged request pointed to www.example.com, whereas the Authorize.Net configuration used example.com (no www). About a month ago - the same time these recurring payment transaction detailswere no longer being processed by our ASP.NET page - we had implemented IIS 7's URL rewriting feature to permanently redirect all traffic to example.com to www.example.com. Could that be the problem? I contacted Authorize.Net's support again and asked them if their silent post algorithmwould follow the301HTTP response and repost the recurring payment transaction details. They said, Yes, the silent post would follow redirects. Their reports didn't jive with my observations, so I went ahead and updated our Authorize.Net configuration to point to http://www.example.com/AuthorizeNetProcessingPage.aspx instead of http://example.com/AuthorizeNetProcessingPage.aspx. And, I'm happy to report, recurring payments and correctly being processed again! If you use Authorize.Net and the silent post feature, and you notice that your processing page is not longer working, make sure you are not using any URL rewriting rules that may conflict with the silent post URL configuration. Hope this saves someone the time it took me to get to the bottom of this. Happy Programming!Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • How do *you* track and document routine maintenance?

    - by Zak
    What software or system do you guys out on server fault use to remind you to do routine maintenance? How do you checklist and log the various items you are supposed to check? Do you have an internal process document? Do you have cron mail you every week with reminders to check system logs? Also, do you work on a team to do system maintenance, and if so, how do you coordinate who will do what maintenance? If you use a bug/issue tracking system to enter tasks, do you have a cron job enter recurring tasks?

  • .NET: Get all Outlook calendar items

    - by Qinnie
    How can I get all items from a specific calendar (for a specific date). Lets say for instance that I have a calendar with a recurring item every Monday evening. When I request all items like this: CalendarItems = CalendarFolder.Items; CalendarItems.IncludeRecurrences = true; I only get 1 item... Is there an easy way to get all items (main item + derived items) from a calendar? In my specific situation it can be possible to set a date limit but it would be cool just to get all items (my recurring items are time limited themselves). I'm using the Microsoft Outlook 12 Object library (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook).

  • What's the best way to handle numerous recurring log entries in game loop?

    - by Kaa
    I have a custom logging system, use of which is scattered all over the engine and game. The system is linked to a "LogStore" that has an std::vector<string> logs[NUM_LOG_TYPES] - each vector corresponds with it's log type (info, error, debug, etc.). There's one extra std::vector that has "coordinates" to all log entries in the order they were received. Now, all the logging output is also displayed inside my development console in the game. The game console is handled by HTML-type GUI and therefore requires a new <p> element being added for each log output. My problem is that the log entries that are generated in the main loop each frame freeze the engine, because they continue to add elements to the in-game console, and if the console or guy generates a warning - that creates an infinite logging loop. I want to solve it by handling the recurring log entries in an elegant way that lets you know that something is critically wrong, but won't freeze the engine - like displaying the count of errors in the last 60 frames instead of displaying errors themselves. But how do you guys handle this? Does anyone know any nifty tricks to do this? I understand the question may sound vague, but if someone came across this type of issue I'm sure they would know exactly what's happening. Example problematic log entries: OpenGL warnings (I actually do check for errors every frame in many places) Really any prints anywhere in the main loop (may be debugging, may be warnings)

  • How can I update an expression in a Runt::Schedule object?

    - by Reid Beels
    Runt provides a Schedule class for managing collections of events, each represented by a temporal expression. The Schedule class provides an update method, cited in the release notes as "allowing clients to update existing expressions". The implementation of this method, however, simply calls a supplied block, providing the temporal expression for the specified event (as shown). # From lib/runt/schedule.rb:61 # # Call the supplied block/Proc with the currently configured # TemporalExpression associated with the supplied Event. # def update(event,&block) block.call(@elems[event]) end How is one expected to use this method to update an expression?

    - by Aditya
    Hello everybody, When i update the existing subscription info using update_recurring method of autorize.net gateway then payment details(means 'credit card number', 'CVV number' and 'expiry date' ) are not being updated. My code snippet is as follows:- def create_card_subscription credit_card = ActiveMerchant::Billing::CreditCard.new( :first_name = params[:payment_details][:name], :last_name = params[:payment_details][:last_name], :number = params[:payment_details][:credit_card_number], :month = params[:expiry_date_month], :year = params[:expiry_date_year], :verification_value = params[:payment_details][:cvv_code] ) if credit_card.valid? gateway = ActiveMerchant::Billing::AuthorizeNetGateway.new(:login = '***', :password = '******') response = gateway.update_recurring( { "subscription.payment.credit_card.card_number" = "4111111111111111", :duration ={:start_date='2010-04-21', :occurrences=1}, :billing_address={:first_name='xyz', :last_name='xyz'}, :subscription_id="**" } ) if response.success? puts response.params.inspect puts "Successfully charged $#{sprintf("%.2f", amount / 100)} to the credit card #{credit_card.display_number}. The Account number is #{response.params['rbAccountId']}" else puts response.message end else #Credit Card information is invalid end render :action="card_payment" end How can it be possible?   • What do you use for recurring payments in a Rails Application?

    - by Chance
    I'm fairly new to rails so I'm definitely not up to speed on the community's best practices, tools, etc. So I figure this may be the best place to ask. What do you use for recurring billing in a rails app? From what I can tell, there are a number of options including rolling my own with ActiveMerchant or using one of the SaaS out there. As far as the SaaS recurring billing systems, I've only stumbled upon one thus far (chedder getter) and I'm hoping there are alternatives (if, for nothing else, so I can compare). Additionally, I've seen a few invoice systems but they either do not handle the payment portion, do not seem to fit well with the intention, or are extremely outdated. Thanks in advance!

  • Outlook 2010: How do I mark one recurring event public?

    - by goober
    My office utilizes Outlook 2010 and Exchange for e-mail, and our calendars show free/busy information by default. Background I work from home once a week, so I have created an event that lists me as tentative for the entire workday, titled "Working from Home - Available Remotely". However, those attempting to schedule a meeting with me won't see this title, and therefore won't think they can schedule an event. As much as I'd like to get out meetings (!) it's important that folks be able to schedule with me. Question Is there a way to make the title/details public for this one recurring event so that when others attempt to schedule a meeting with me, Attempted Solutions I've tried creating a public calendar and sharing all the details of that calendar. However, all of my calendars are not included when someone wants to schedule with me, and so I'm shown as free unless someone specifically looks at my public calendar. I've Googled around, to no avail.

  • What production-ready SaaS (recurring billing) solutions are available for Rails?

    - by Benjamin Manns
    I am working on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) application and I am looking for a billing plugin of some sort that will manage my subscriptions, customers, and recurring billing. There is the RailsKits SaaS kit ($249.00), but I prefer to use open source software. I have also found maccman's saasy, but the phrase "At the moment this is alpha code - use at your own risk" makes me a tad bit nervous.

  • How to handle recurring dates (dates only) in .NET?

    - by Wayne M
    I am trying to figure out a good way to handle recurring events in .NET, specifically for an ASP.NET MVC application. The idea is that a user can create an event and specify that the event can occur repeatedly after a specific interval (e.g. "every two weeks", "once a month" and so on). What would be the best way to tackle this? My brainstorming right now is to have two tables: Job and RecurringJob. Job is the "master" record and has the description of the job as well a key to what customer it's for, while RecurringJob links back to Job and has additional info on what the occurrence frequency is (e.g. 1 for "once a month") as well as the timespan (e.g. "Weekly", "Monthly"). The issue is how to determine and set the next occurrence of the job since this will have to be something that's done regularly. I've seen two trains of thought with this: This logic should either be stored in a database column and periodically updated, or calculated on the fly in the code. Any thoughts or suggestions on tackling this? Edit: this is for a subscription based web app I'm creating to let service businesses schedule their common recurring jobs easily and track their customers. So a typical use might be to create a "Cut lawn" job for Mr Smith that occurs every month The exact date isn't important - it's the ability for the customer to see that Mr Smith gets his lawn cut every month and followup with him about it. Let me rephrase the above to better convey my idea. A sample use case for the application might be as follows: User pulls up the customer record for John Smith and clicks the Add Job link. The user fills out the form to create a job with a name of "Cut lawn", a start date of 11/15/2009, and selects a checkbox indicating that this job continually occurs. The user is presented with a secondary screen asking for the job frequency. The user indicates (haven't decided how at this point - let's assume select lists) that the job occurs once a month. User clicks save. Now, when the user views the record for John Smith, they can see that he has a job, "Cut lawn", that occurs every month starting from 11/15/2009. On the main dashboard when it's one week prior to the assumed start date, the user sees the job displayed with an indicator such as "12/15/2009 - Cut lawn (John Smith)". A week before the due date someone from the company calls him up to schedule and he says he's going to be out of town until 1/1/2010, so he wants his appointment rescheduled for that date. Our user can change the date for the job to be 1/1/2010, and now the recurrence will start one month from that date (e.g. next time will be 2/1/2010). The idea behind this is that the app is targeting businesses like lawn care, plumbers, carpet cleaners and the like where the exact date isn't as important (because it can and will change as people are busy), the key thing is to give the business an indicator that Mr. Smith's monthly service is coming up, and someone should give him a call to determine when exactly it can be scheduled for. In effect give these businesses a way to track repeat business and know when it's time to followup with a customer.

  • How to write curiously recurring templates with more than 2 layers of inheritance?

    - by Kyle
    All the material I've read on Curiously Recurring Template Pattern seems to one layer of inheritance, ie Base and Derived : Base<Derived>. What if I want to take it one step further? #include <iostream> using std::cout; template<typename LowestDerivedClass> class A { public: LowestDerivedClass& get() { return *static_cast<LowestDerivedClass*>(this); } void print() { cout << "A\n"; } }; template<typename LowestDerivedClass> class B : public A<LowestDerivedClass> { public: void print() { cout << "B\n"; } }; class C : public B<C> { public: void print() { cout << "C\n"; } }; int main() { C c; c.get().print(); // B b; // Intentionally bad syntax, // b.get().print(); // to demonstrate what I'm trying to accomplish return 0; } How can I rewrite this code to compile without errors (and output "C\nB\n")?

  • How to solve ATI Radeon 7670M/ Intel HD Switchable Graphics recurring BSOD error?

    - by Ashin Mandal
    I recently bought a VAIO E Series laptop with an ATI Radeon 7670M and Intel HD Switchable Graphics. Around about one month ago, my computer started shutting down with atikmpag.sys blue screen error and the frequency of the errors kept on increasing with time. I am really worried about my VGA Adapter and whether or not it's gone bad. It's a 3 month old laptop! I searched on Google about atikmpag.sys BSOD and most of them suggested that my driver probably needs to be updated. I searched the Sony website and also the ATI website, I did have the latest drivers installed. Yet, I uninstalled the driver and installed it back again. But blue screens just keep coming back again and again. It generally happens more frequently when I have a video running and have paused it to do something else. I hope it's a driver issue!

  • Paypal recuring IPN signals

    - by user1548981
    When creating Paypal recurring payments i don't receive any notifications from IPN that the recurring payments were actually made. I do receive the notifications that recurring profiles are created, that regular payments are made, that profile is canceled and so on. But no notifications when Paypal make the recurring payment. The file that process the ipn notification works fine and i think is bug free.It also send me an email every time he got something from Paypal(with row POST data) so i don't think the problem is here. Does Paypal send these notifications.If i set a daily recurring payment i should get a daily notification that payment was made? From what i read in documentation i should get these signals but.. Thanks
