  • Change size of a custom page in Inno Setup

    The following image shows the size of a standard custom page: I've intentionally removed the panel on top, where you usually see Caption, Description and Logo. So you can see that the actual size of the page is quite small - there are gaps on top, left and right sides. Is there any way to resize the page, so there are no gaps? I want the image to take the whole space. I create the page using CreateCustomPage function.

  • Rails 3 Timezone error

    I am struggling with time zone support in Rails 3 beta and I would like to know if it is a bug or if I am doing something wrong. He is the problem: > Time.zone = 'Madrid' # it is GMT+2 = "Madrid" > c = Comment.new = #<Comment id: nil, title: "", pub_at: nil> > c.pub_at = Time.zone.parse('10:00:00') = Mon, 31 May 2010 10:00:00 CEST +02:00 > c.save > c = #<Comment id: 3, title: "", pub_at: "2010-05-31 08:00:00"> > c.reload = #<Comment id: 3, title: "", pub_at: "2010-05-31 08:00:00"> ruby-1.8.7-p249 c.pub_at = Mon, 31 May 2010 13:00:00 CEST +02:00 As you can see, the pub_at attribute is stored correctly in the database but when it is retrieved it adds 3 hours and I suspect that it is because it is using my local machine timezone that is in GMT-3. The same sequence of commands in rails 2.3.5 works perfectly. Any toughts? Should I report a ticket?

The problem is I'm only familiar with the small Linux cluster we have in the lab and I'm using Vista at home. What sort of things do I want to look into for multicore programming with C or Java?     I am developing a Delphi documents management application, so somehow I am giving the user some functionality similar to windows explorer. I would like to know if there is a way to get the preview used by windows explorer. For example windows explorer creates a small thumbnail for a pdf document for example, and displays it when the user chooses to view "big icons". Is there a way to retrieve that preview? Assuming that the service is scarcely used, does anyone know how many cpu hours that would eat up in a month just by sitting there and running?     When a user uploads an image to my site, the image goes through this process; user uploads pic store pic metadata in db, giving the image a unique id async image processing (thumbnail creation, cropping, etc) all images are stored in the same uploads folder So far the site is pretty small, and there are only ~200,000 images in the uploads directory. I realise I'm nowhere near the physical limit of files within a directory, but this approach clearly won't scale, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice on upload / storage strategies for handling large volumes of image uploads.

    Basic example, if I bought a chipset with a light socket and bulb soldered to the chipset; then put a USB cable with the mini-USB plug on the end to get plugged into the android phone. Can I write a Java application to turn on/off the light, get the status of the light(on/off) and maybe power a super-small led/bulb with power from the phone itself?     I have what I would consider a small sized iPhone app that uses SQLite. There is a singleton domain object which gets data from a SQLite database. Is it better to create and open the SQLite connection for each request, or to open the DB once and hold on to it for the duration of the app. The app's reason for being is the domain object so other objects will not need the DB.

(dont think it's relevant but i'm using xampp to test this)

    Is it possible to create a small program that will run, without recompiling and without emulators, on both Windows CE 6 AND Windows XP SP3? From my knowledge, this isn't possible. Source code needs to be recompiled for the target platform. However, a hardware manufacturer for embedded boards is claiming otherwise. The application isn't anything complex, just a simple benchmarking tool analysing floating point operations, CPU ticks etc, and displaying the results on a plain GUI.

  • What is a good CPU/PC setup to speed up intensive C++/templates compilation?

    I currently have a machine with an Opteron 275 (2.2Ghz), which is a dual core CPU, and 4GB of RAM, along with a very fast hard drive. I find that when compiling even somewhat simple projects that use C++ templates (think boost, etc.), my compile times can take quite a while (minutes for small things, much longer for bigger projects). Unfortunately only one of the cores is pegged at 100%, so I know it's not the I/O, and it would seem that there is no way to take advantage of the other core for C++ compilation?

  • What is the recommended approach to add static subdomains to a website?

    I would like to create a few static subdomains like: mycategory.mydomain.com in a rather small website and would like it to point to the folder: mydomain.com/mycategory without showing such redirection in browser address bar. What is an easiest way to achieve it? I can do it in either IIS settings, asp.net, C# code, etc I guess there are better ways then creating a few separate Sites in IIS - one for each subdomain.

  • Is it reasonable to use OpenGL for desktop applications?

    I've been writing a small desktop gadget-type application that displays scrolling text along the bottom of the screen (Similar to the old CNN news ticker), however the performance of GDI is just unsatisfactory (As high as 8-12% on a quad core and 20% on a single core) even after I've attempted to clean out bottlenecks. I was considering using OpenGL instead to render everything, but I don't know if that is a reasonable option to require users to have hardware acceleration for a tiny app like this. Does anybody have any input on this?
