  • Bind ADFS 2.0 service to a specific IP address

    I have one server with ADFS-2.0 and a few websites on it. One of the websites is Dynamics CRM which listens on a specific IP address on port 443. Dynamics CRM provides a metadata file for configuration purposes which could be used to configure a relaying party trust with ADFS. It is accessible with the URL https://auth.contoso.com/FederationMetadata/2007-06/federationmetadata.xml The problem is that ADFS-2.0 installs a service which registers following urlacl https://+:443/FederationMetadata/2007-06/ This means the result of accessing the URL https://auth.contoso.com/FederationMetadata/2007-06/federationmetadata.xml is the metadata file of ADFS, not the one of Dynamics CRM. I've tried to delete the default urlacl and added (one of them at a time) https://192.168.1.2:443/FederationMetadata/2007-06/ https://adfs.mydomain.com:443/FederationMetadata/2007-06/ but neither of them worked. Instead the ADFS-service failed to startup complete. Is there any way to bind this service to a IP address? At the moment I see only two alternatives Bind the service to a non standard port. This leads to problems because this means that also the ADFS website has to use a non-standard HTTPS-port. Install ADFS-2.0 on a different server (this is my favorite alternative - however it is not possible in every situation...)

  • Excel crashes when opening Excel files from Internet Explorer

    I have been running into some issues when opening Excel files from Internet Explorer, generally the first document or two will open fine but after that trying to open a file will cause Excel and Internet Explorer to crash to the desktop without any notifications being given. This doesn't happen for users who are running Excel 2007, but for users with Excel 2003 it may or may not happen to them. The files in question are Excel XML files and Internet Explorer 6 and Excel 2003 are being use. At this time it would not be possible to upgrade Internet Explorer, but it would be able to upgrade to Excel to version 2007 if that would resolve the issue. Overdue Update: We recently upgraded to Firefox at the office which has rendered this error a non-issue; however, it is still unresolved from the standpoint that we haven't been able to come up with an explanation to the issue. Since IE6 is still installed on the systems, a fix to the problem (or explanation of why it's happening) would be appreciated.

  • Terminal Services printing

    Hi We are using a hosted terminal server to run some applications on. We have three users who connect to the server through RDP and try to print to a networked printer called: HP Photosmart C7280. One of the users is using Windows XP Pro 32-bit on the host and when they print through the terminal server it works fine. Another one of the users is using Vista 32-bit on the host and when they print through the terminal server it works fine. The third user is using Windows 7 64-bit on the host and when they print through the terminal server it only print the first line of the page (A test page print 3/4s of the test page compared to printing all of the page when using the other 2 machines). We are only printing from Word 2007 and Excel 2007 on all machines. The server is Windows 2003. No errors in the event log. Any ideas?

  • Exchange Public Folders in Snow Leopard Mail.app

    I am using Mail.app (running snow leopard) to connect to my email account on my school's Exchange 2007 server. I get my Inbox just fine, and iCal connects to my Outlook Calendar just fine, but I cannot seem to get any of the Exchange Public Folders that I can automatically see when I am using Outlook on a Windows box. The Account Type is shown as "Exchange 2007" I did not have any luck Googling this problem, in fact most of the results I saw were dealing with the opposite problem: Remove MS Exchange Public Folders I am aware that my question is a duplicate of this: http://superuser.com/questions/103115/apple-mail-app-all-exchange-folders-not-visible but since that question did not get any responses, I am reposting.

  • Backup strategy for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Hyper-V

    I am in the process of planning a Hyper-V deployment with SCVMM 2008 R2. I have several VMs on VMWare Player (temporary solution) for stuff like Sharepoint 2007, 2010, and a couple of other server apps. I want to develop a resilient backup plan for this. On the software side, Data Protection Manager 2010 will support all of the server apps I run (sQL Server 2008 R2, Sharepoint, Exchange, etc). But on the hardware side (storage), what is the best way to go? Drobo seems to have issues with Hyper-V juding by a few threads on here and doesn't support DPM 2010 (which is in beta anyway) but not even the 2007 version (see http://www.drobo.com/support/best_practices.php). What storage device would work well? Do I need a home server or just an external usb drive? Capacity wise, 2tb will probably be best so I can have a small archive and implement a round-robin system.     This issue has been occupying my work for the last few days and I will be understating when I say its driven me up the blasted walls. Essentially, I can ping and tracert the domain jnrcs.org and the subdomains mail.jnrcs.org and mail.jordanredcrescent.org. All three mentioned point to ip address 212.38.147.97. About 4 days ago, when we registered the domain "jnrcs.org" suddenly all external connection to the mail server from outside was lost. Not just mail, but other http based port-forwarded or natted services (such as camera surveillance and pbx services).   • Can / should I prevent my domain controller doing forward lookups for remote users?

    I have a Windows Server 2003 server in the office. I VPN into the LAN remotely. My VPN has a virtual NIC with the Windows Server as the primary DNS since it is a domain controller. When connected to the VPN and I do a nslookup or simply browse the web my VPN's DNS (the office's Windows Server) provides the DNS answers - I beleive becuase it has DNS forwarders so queries it cant answer it forwards and then relays the answer. This is the desired behaviour for workstations in the office (they should query their domain controller first). However for remote VPN users this is not desirable - I do not want my remote office's server to answer DNS queries it is not the authority of (which happends to be 192.168.x.x). Is there any way I can configure this?

And there are about 500 users connecting to 1C server to perform their tasks. 1C and SQL 2008 are on separate servers. How to configure MS SQL 2008 R2 to effectively use parallelization in this configuration? We have 24 cores, and only one is loaded at 100% at MS SQL 2008 R2 server.     I've generated a certificate using openssl and place it on the client's machine, but when I try to connect to my server using that certificate, I error mentioned in the subject line back from my server.     At our office, any of our Windows 7 Clients get this error message when we try and RDP to a remote W2K8 Server outside of the office :- Your system administrator does not allow the user of saved credentials to log on to the remote computer XXX because its identity is not fully verified. Please enter new credentials A quick google search leads to some posts they all suggest I edit group policy, etc. I'm under the impression, that the common fix for this, is to follow those instructions -per Windows7 machine-. Ack :( Is there anyway I can do something via our office Active Directory .. which auto updates all Windows 7 clients in the office LAN?

  • Exchange 2010 - No Push notification when when deleting emails from Outlook

    Hi I'm setting up a Exchange 2010 server for our test environment. I'm running Windows 2008R2 enterprise on this machine. Iv'e also installed all updates available for windows and exchange 2010 including rollup 1 and 2 for exchange that include bugfixes regarding push notifications. My problem is when deleting mail or marking mail as read don't trigger a push notification. The happens when I use webgui, mobile phone and Outlook 2007. When deleting a email in Outlook 2007 the changes get sent to the server since the changes are visible in webgui but not on mobile phone. I get push notifications when I get new emails since new emails appear instantly on the mobile phone. Is this normal behaviour on Exchange 2010? For me it seems a bit funny. If i force sync on mobile phone the changes appear. Iv'e tested this on both iphone and HTC HD2(Running Windows Mobile 6.5) with same results.

  • User cannot book a room resource in Exchange 2010

    Im having a problem with a specific user not being able to book a room resource. No error message is generated at all. The user attempts to add the room as a meeting resource and it simply doesnt register with the resources calendar. I have tested the resource with other accounts and other rooms for this user but it is only this room that is having issues for this user. This Exchange server was migrated from 2007 to 2010. All rooms except for the problem room were created back on Exchange 2007. This new room was created with Exchange 2010. Maybe this clue has something to do with the problem?     I have setup pptpd as my VPN server on Ubuntu Server 9.04, I am able to connect to the VPN from the client and can access the server's local network, but I am unable to connect to the external network via the VPN.   • Temporarily disable an AD server

    Topology and setup We have main office A, and branch office (abroad) B. Our ISP somehow messed up the MPLS, and office A<B will not be connected until a few days. At location B, we have an AD (and the other two ADs at location A). Location A also have an exchange server. The problems A few users at A have problem to login to their computers running Windows XP, the logon process kind of hangs where "Applying computer policies". Additionally, I can't start the Exchange management shell, it fails on get-recipient because the AD abroad (location B) is unreachable. Solution? I could delete the AD at B, but Im pretty sure it will be a hazzle to re-join it, and since the office is abroad it's not an option to just go there and re-install it - re join, I now wonder how I in location As primary and secondary ADs can temporarily disable AD at location B.

    I'm trying to uninstall Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 from my Windows 7 machine. Logged in as administrator, when I attempt to uninstall I get a messagebox stating "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." Excuse me? No I haven't. Immediately following, another messagebox displays: "You do not have sufficient access to uninstall Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. Please contact your system administrator." I didn't do anything unusual when installing or setting up the software. Just normal home use computer. Any ideas on how to remove this software?

Some observations we've made with resource scheduling/booking are: Outlook 2010 users have trouble with the native Exchange 2003 resource scheduling method and require direct booking to be configured via registry Outlook 2007 users are unable to use direct booking (is this accurate?) Outlook 2003 users can only use the native Exchange 2003 resource scheduling method (is this accurate?) Direct booking cannot be combined with the auto-accept agent What is the correct way to setup resource scheduling in a mixed environment like this? Thanks, Daniel

  • Split Tunnel VPN using incorrect Tunnel

    Our company has a handful of field offices that have recently been setup with a regular internet connection after we removed the T1 and router that connected them directly to our network. Now, when the users are in the office, they log in to the VPN to be able to connect to the network. For the sake of them being able to print and scan from the local multi-function we have setup a split tunnel VPN. We currently have about 15-20 users using this setup around the country without any problems. Recently one of our users started having problems accessing internal programs/sites when connecting from both home and the office. There are three other users in the same office and they do not have this problem. I assumed that it was something with the computer and went ahead and replaced it with another of the same model. The computer worked fine in our home office; however, when the user received it, she had the exact same problem both at home and in the field office. Thinking it may be a NIC driver issue I sent her another computer, this time a different model, same problem occurred. If I update the host file to point to the correct paths, things will work, and if I connect via a normal VPN connection everything works, but the user cannot scan or print - which is a problem. Have tried to find ways to create another tunnel on a normal VPN and have tried to find ways to force the correct tunnel on the split tunnel VPN. It appears that there is something related to the ISP because if I connect to Comcast or Verizon it is fine but once she connects to Insite then she has problems. I have been unable to get any support from Insite as they don't feel the issue is with them. We use a Nortel VPN client. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

I'm no hacker and I'm finding this task to be of great difficulty, that is, I see all the security alerts and their descriptions but no explanation of how to take advantage. Maybe I'm being a little naive but all I want to know is if there is any tool I can use to show that CentOS 5.0 vulnerability XPTO exists and to show it "working".
