• Rubygame on OS X shebang problem

  I'm playing around with Rubygame. I installed it with the Mac Pack, and now I have the rsdl executable. rsdl game.rb works fine, but when I chmod +x the rb file, add the shebang to rsdl (tried direct path and /usr/bin/env rsdl) and try to execute it (./game.rb), it starts to flicker between the Terminal and rsdl which is trying to open, and eventually gives up and gives a bus error. Anyone know what's causing that? I'm on Snow Leopard (10.6.2) if it makes a difference. Thanks.

  I know that when you are on shell, the only commands that can be used are the ones that can be found on some directory set on PATH. Even I don't know how to see what dirs are on my PATH variable (and this is another good question that could be answered), what I'd like to know is: I come to shell and write: $ lshw I want to know a command on shell that can tell me WHERE this command is located. In other words, where this "executable file" is located? Something like: $ location lshw /usr/bin Anyone?

• After pip installing uWSGI there's no /etc/uwsgi/ directory - how can I use apps-enabled?

  I've been using apt-get install uwsgi to install uWSGI. Today, I realized I needed a feature that's not available until uWSGI 1.1, and Ubuntu 12.04.1 doesn't have anything after 1.0.x, at least according to my apt-get install uwsgi=1.1 attempt. So, I used: pip install http://projects.unbit.it/downloads/uwsgi-lts.tar.gz After doing so, I get a message prescribing the use of /usr/local/bin/uwsgi to launch the program. I'm not a guru when it comes to compiling from source, but my understanding is that when you do so, nothing will be changed in the /etc/ directory. Is this correct? If not, why don't I have a /etc/uwsgi/ directory and, more specifically, a /etc/uwsgi/apps-enabled/ directory? Should I simply create the directories when installing uWSGI from source? I was hesitant to do so, considering there is no mention of this in the docs (I don't want something that accidentally works, etc.).

  VB.NET: Can the .EXE built by VS2005 be deployed as a standalone EXE? When I change the mode in VS2005 to "Release" and build the solution, the bin\Release directory then contains the solution .EXE file, but also a .pdb, vshost.exe and .xml file. What are these extra files and are they necessary? I copied the .exe file to another machine and it executed properly, but there was a significant delay when it first executed - thereafter it was like any other program. What is the reason for this, and can it be helped? Is it because the other 3 files in the Release folder are not there with it?

• Test for external undefined references in Linux

  Is there a built in linux utility that I can use to test a newly compiled shared library for external undefined references? Gcc seems to be intelligent enough to check for undefined symbols in my own binary, but if the symbol is a reference to another library gcc does not check at link time. Instead I only get the message when I try to link to my new library from another program. It seems a little silly to get undefined reference messages in a library when I am compiling a different project so I want to know if I can do a check on all references internal and external when I build the library not when I link to it. • How to ensure that you are building against STLport.

  I am using Visual C++ 2005 to build a couple of libraries and an executable. I include the STLport location in the Additional Include Path of the libraries and include the library in the input to linker for executable. The library however seems to reffer to stl symbols (such as string) without the stl port namespace.   The advantage of writing a Makefile is that "make" is generally assumed to be present on the various Unices (Linux and Mac primarily). Now I have the following Makefile: PYTHON := python all: e installdeps e: virtualenv --distribute --python=${PYTHON} e installdeps: e/bin/python setup.py develop clean: rm -rf e As you can see this Makefile uses simple targets and variable substitution. Can this be achieved on Windows? By that mean - without having to install external tools (like cygwin make); perhaps make.cmd? Typing "make installdeps" for instance, should work both on Unix and Windows.

• Want procmail to run a custom python script, everytime a new mail shows up

  I have a pretty usual requirement with procmail but I am unable to get the results somehow. I have procmailrc file with this content: :0 * ^To.*@myhost | /usr/bin/python /work/scripts/privilege_emails_forward.py Wherein my custom python script(privilege_emails_forward.py) will be scanning through the email currently received and do some operations on the mail content. But I am unable to get the script getting executed at the first shot(let alone scanning through the mail content). Is this a correct way of invoking an external program(python) as soon as new mail arrives? And how does my python program(privilege_emails_forward.py) will receive the mail as input? I mean as sys.argv or stdin????

• Why does sh/bash set command line parameter values when trying to set environment variable?

  A question on basics : While tuning environment variables for a program launched from a script, I ended up with somewhat strange behaviour with sh (which seems to be actually linked to bash) : variable setting seems to mess up with command-line parameters. Could somebody explain why does this happen? A simple script: #! /bin/sh # Messes with $1 ?? set ANT_OPTS=-Xmx512M export ANT_OPTS # Works # export ANT_OPTS=-Xmx512M echo "0 = $0" echo "1 = $1" When I run this with the upper alternative (set + export), the result is as following: $ ./test.sh foo 0 = ./test.sh 1 = ANT_OPTS=-Xmx512M But with lower alternative (export straight), the result is as I supposed: $ ./test.sh foo 0 = ./test.sh 1 = foo There is surely logical explanation, I just haven't figured it out yet. First, add code sign section in my .xcodeproj(3.2.5). Second, I used script: productbuild --component ./bin/MAS_Release/MyApp.app /Applications --sign "3rd Party Mac Developer Application: My Company Co., Ltd." --product ./src/MyApp/MyApp-Info.plist MyApp.pkg But it failed with information: Code Signing Identity '3rd Party Mac Developer Application: My Company Co., Ltd.' does not match any valid, non-expired, code-signing certificate in your keychain. I observed that my certifications in keychain don't have small trangle. how make the small trangle absence?(when I'am importing the Cers from my Agent, it don't have the trangle absence)

• boolean type for while loop in bash?

  I have a cron script on a shared web host that occasionally gets killed. I'd like to make a loop in bash that tries again if it gets killed, because most of the time it will make it. I'm having trouble with the syntax for storing a boolean value :P #!/bin/bash VAR=0; while [ $VAR ]; do if nice -19 mysqldump -uuser -ppassword -h database.hostname.com --skip-opt --all --complete-insert --add-drop-table database_name > ~/file/system/path/filename.sql; then VAR=1; fi done So the script recovers from a killed process okay, but once it's run properly, the new VAR value doesn't kill the while loop. What am I doing wrong?

• Running Ruby app on Apache

  I have been learning Ruby lately, and I want to upload a test web application to my server. But I can't figure out how to get it to run on my shared hosting. My Hosting Details Shared Hosting with JustHost (see here for list of features) OS: Linux Apache: 2.2.11 cPanel: 11.25.0-STABLE No SSH access. Can install Ruby Gems. Can't install Apache modules. Can "Manage Ruby on Rails Applications" through cPanel. Mongrel gem is installed. I built the following simple HelloWorld Ruby Rack app using Sinatra: #!/usr/bin/ruby ruby require 'rubygems' require 'sinatra' get '/hi' do "Hello World!" end I just can can't figure out how to "start" the application. Do I need to tell Mongrel (or maybe Apache) that the application exists somehow? How do I start this app running? I am happy to provide more info if needed.

  Hi, I want to import DLL file in my web site project. I have dll file "my.dll" in folder C:\DLLDir and I'm using the code : [DllImport("C:\\DLLDir\\my.dll", EntryPoint = "Out32")] This works ok. But I want to use relative path (web site root path) . I'm trying to put "my.dll" in "bin" or root folder and I'm using the code : [DllImport("my.dll", EntryPoint = "Out32")] but I'm getting the error: Unable to load DLL 'my.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E) Any ideas?

• Passing arguments stored in a file when running projects in Netbeans

  My problem is that I can't remember how I can pass the arguments when running a project in netbeans. There is not enough documentation on web if anybody could help it would be highly appreciated. Here is what I know, you can change the run configurations under run Set Project Configuration Default Configuration there there is a entry space where zou can enter the arguments to be passed. I have a file called "AsciiShop.java" which to be runned and I need to pass the arguments stored in a file called "asciishop-A04-PP.i1". When I am using terminal or cmd.exe I can run the program with java AsciiShop < asciishop-A04-PP.i1 and it works perfect. I want to be able to the same on netbeans. I have placed the file in the default working directory which contains src and bin folders. What should I write in the arguments entry field on the project configurations window, so that it works same like java AsciiShop < asciishop-A04-PP.i1

• Ruby TCPSocket doesn't notice it when server is killed

  I've this ruby code that connects to a TCP server (namely, netcat). It loops 20 times, and sends "ABCD ". If I kill netcat, it takes TWO iterations of the loop for an exception to be triggered. On the first loop after netcat is killed, no exception is triggered, and "send" reports that 5 bytes have been correctly written... Which in the end is not true, since of course the server never received them. Is there a way to work around this issue ? • Sending mail via sendmail from python

  If I want to send mail not via SMTP, but rather via sendmail, is there a library for python that encapsulates this process? Better yet, is there a good library that abstracts the whole 'sendmail -versus- smtp' choice? I'll be running this script on a bunch of unix hosts, only some of which are listening on localhost:25; a few of these are part of embedded systems and can't be set up to accept SMTP. As part of Good Practice, I'd really like to have the library take care of header injection vulnerabilities itself -- so just dumping a string to popen('/usr/bin/sendmail', 'w') is a little closer to the metal than I'd like. If the answer is 'go write a library,' so be it ;-)

• Publish web application from MSBuild Script using VS2010 targets resets working directory

  I am trying to automatically publish and deploy my .Net 4 web application automatically from a build script to be run by our continuous integration server. I am using the new _WPPCopyWebApplication target from VS2010 to perform the publish, however it appears to reset the current working directory of the msbuild project to c:\ this causes my prebuild steps to fail as they have relative paths to some external tools. The task I am running from our master.build file is as follows: <Target Name="PublishWeb"> <MSBuild Projects="$(ProjectPath)" Targets="ResolveReferences;_WPPCopyWebApplication" Properties="WebProjectOutputDir=$(DeployPath);OutDir=$(TempOutputFolder)$(WebOutputFolder)\;OutputPath=$(ProjectPath)\bin\Debug;" /> </Target> This does not happen when using the legacy _CopyWebApplication. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this problem?

• How to get number of rows deleted from mysql in shell script

  Hi all I can't work out how to get the mysql client to return the number of rows deleted to the shell when running a delete. Does anyone know what option will enable this? Or ways around it? Here's what i'm trying, but i get no output: #!/bin/bash deleted=`mysql mydb -e "delete from mytable where insertedtime < '2010-04-01 00:00:00'"|tail -n 1` I was expecting something like this as the output from mysql: deleted 999999 Which is why i have the tail -n 1 so i only pick up the count and not the column name. When running the command by hand (mysql mydb -e "delete from mytable where insertedtime < '2010-04-01 00:00:00'") there is no output. When running the command interactively when running the mysql client i ge the following: mysql>delete from mytable where insertedtime < '2010-04-01 00:00:00'; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) I want to get the rows affected count into my shell variable. Any help would be most appreciated.

• Best way to perform authentication on every request

  Hello. In my asp.net mvc 2 app, I'm wondering about the best way to implement this: For every incoming request I need to perform custom authorization before allowing the file to be served. (This is based on headers and contents of the querystring. If you're familiar with how Amazon S3 does rest authentication - exactly that). I'd like to do this in the most perfomant way possible, which probably means as light a touch as possible, with IIS doing as much of the actual work as possible. The service will need to handle GET requests, as well as writing new files coming in via POST/PUT requests. The requests are for an abitrary file, so it could be: GET http://storage.foo.com/bla/egg/foo18/something.bin POST http://storage.foo.com/else.txt Right now I've half implemented it using an IHttpHandler which handles all routes (with routes.RouteExistingFiles = true), but not sure if that's the best, or if I should be hooking into the lifecycle somewhere else? • Embarrassingly parallel workflow creates too many output files

  On a Linux cluster I run many (N > 10^6) independent computations. Each computation takes only a few minutes and the output is a handful of lines. When N was small I was able to store each result in a separate file to be parsed later. With large N however, I find that I am wasting storage space (for the file creation) and simple commands like ls require extra care due to internal limits of bash: -bash: /bin/ls: Argument list too long. Each computation is required to run through a qsub scheduling algorithm so I am unable to create a master program which simply aggregates the output data to a single file. The simple solution of appending to a single fails when two programs finish at the same time and interleave their output. I have no admin access to the cluster, so installing a system-wide database is not an option. How can I collate the output data from embarrassingly parallel computation before it gets unmanageable?
