• Using Java server-side with PHP front-end

  Hi!  Does anyone have a real-world experience in building such a project? I'd like to move away questions about "is it good idea or not", but focus on possible solutions. I see one simple way - HTTP GET/POST + xml/json - and one more elegant - AJAX/DWR. As for the first one - I understand that it is possible, but needs quite a lot coding. As for second way - is it possible to use Java DWR engine with PHP front-end? Is DWR language-independent for client side (as it uses just JavaScript)?  Would it be a problem, that client page was generated by one web server (for example, apache+php) and served on server-side by another (for example, tomcat)? I suspect, that Tomcat will complain about sessions. Can this problem be fixed with allowing cross-domain AJAX? Thank you in advance. Denis.

• Different Versions of an application in same java application server

  Hi, We are utilizing citrix netscalar with more than 20 glassfish java application servers. Unfortunately we have to remove previous application before deploying a new version of it since we have same context for these two different application. This error-prone process leads some problems due to lack of attention in builds or other problems. In an urgent case, we simply want to redirect to all traffic to previous application. What is the best practice to run different version of an application in a substantial number of servers in same time? Thanks

  1.Does dynamic proxy instance subclass the target class? The java doc says the proxy instance implements "a list of interfaces", says nothing about subclassing, but through debugging, I saw that the proxy instance did inherit the target class properites.What does the "a list of interfaces " mean? Can I exclude those interfaces implemented by target class ? 2.Can I invoke target class specific methods on a proxy instance? 3. I think dynamic proxy is an interface methods invocation proxy but rather than a target class proxy, is that right (I am deeply infected by hibernate proxy object concept)?

  Hi Pro's, which parser (java) would you recommend for parsing GPX data? Im looking for a one that is very intuitive to use and should not need too much RAM (it seems that DOM requires too much, doesn't it?). I have no idea about parsing xml, so it is time for me to learn this ;-) My documents are not very huge and are always read twice(a point for DOM), but I don't want to keep as few things as possible in RAM. What would you do in this situation? Which one would you coose and why?

  Hi, I'm trying to integrate Sugar CRM with one of my projects. I'm using Apache Axis as my SOAP client. I've created the Sugar CRM client Stub classes using Apache Axis. I'm able to login and add Leads, Opportunities, Accounts and Contacts. But I'm unable to add a relation ship between my Account and Opportunity. I've found following method in the SugarsoapPortType port.set_relationship(session, module_name, module_id, link_field_name, related_ids, name_value_list, delete) but I cannot understand the different parameters required by this method. • Java WebApp - Integrate a Payment method system

  I've a java webApp where people can sell their items like in ebay. I need to integrate a payment system and I'm wondering what's the best (from a customer point of view) and easiest to integrate in my app. I was thinking to integrate paypal and require all the sellers to have an account on it. Maybe Google Checkout can be a good option as well, but I don't know if it's used a lot. I think I'll redirect the user to Paypal and then remove the item once I receive the confirmation from paypal that the item has been payed. Would you suggest another easier to integrate/more trusted solution? Thank you

  Hi All I have J2SE application running in linux. I have stop application script in which i am doing kill of the J2SE pid. This J2SE application has 6 infinitely running user threads,which will be polling for some specific records in backend DB. When this java pid is killed, I need to perform some cleanup operations for each of the long running thread, like connecting to DB and set status of some transactions which are in-progress to empty. Is there a way to write a method in each of the thread, which will be called when the thread is going to be stopped, by JVM.

  Hi All, We have a client side application (Java/Swing) that we need an HTML rendering control for. What I want to find is the most widely adopted, most heavily developed, easiest to deploy solution to get Gecko or WebKit into a Swing app (Needs to run OS X and Windows). The limited (crappy?) JEditPane type solutions are not robust enough for our needs. We would really like to use either WebKit or Gecko.   The Java Memory Model (since 1.5) treats final fields differently to non-final fields. In particular, provided the this reference doesn't escape during construction, writes to final fields in the constructor are guaranteed to be visible on other threads even if the object is made available to the other thread via a data race. (Writes to non-final fields aren't guaranteed to be visible, so if you improperly publish them, another thread could see them in a partially constructed state.) Is there any documentation on how/if the Scala compiler creates final (rather than non-final) backing fields for classes? I've looked through the language specification and searched the web but can't find any definitive answers. (In comparison the @scala.volatile annotation is documented to mark a field as volatile)

  I have been writing web applications for quite sometime in PHP with MySQL. I always stored my database connection information into a configuration variable and connected to the database that way. A client wants a java applet for their website to communicate with their database. I'm very hesitant on this because the applet is going to be public and I am not sure how I would go about storing the database connection information. I'm paranoid that someone would decompile my application or find some way to extract my database connection information and use it maliciously. Any suggestions on how to do this securely?

  Hi! I'm receiving a datetime from a SOAP webservice without timzone information. Hence, the Axis deserializer assumes UTC. However, the datetime really is in Sydney time. I've solved the problem by substracting the timezone offset: Calendar trade_date = trade.getTradeDateTime(); TimeZone est_tz = TimeZone.getTimeZone("Australia/Sydney"); long millis = trade_date.getTimeInMillis() - est_tz.getRawOffset(); trade_date.setTimeZone( est_tz ); trade_date.setTimeInMillis( millis ); However, I'm not sure if this solution also takes daylight saving into account. I think it should, because all operations are on UTC time. Any experiences with manipulating time in Java? Better ideas on how to solve this problem?

  I am looking to allow HTML emails (and other HTML uploads) without letting in scripts and stuff. I plan to have a white list of safe tags and attributes as well as a whitelist of CSS tags and value regexes (to prevent automatic return receipt). I asked a question: Parse a badly formatted XML document (like an HTML file) I found there are many many ways to do this. Some systems have built in sanitizers (which I don't care so much about). I will post some answers and say Community Wiki. Please post any other options you like and say Community Wiki so they can be voted on. I also use RTMP Researcher to monitor the traffic and events that occur between the client and the server. Here is what I note: There is obviously a map with options that is being exchanged between the red5 instance and the client. • Writing to a java socket channel which should be closed does not generate an exception

  Hi all, We have a java server that keeps a socket channel open with an Android client in order to provide push capabilities to our client application. However, after putting the Android in airplane mode, which I expected would sever the connection, the server can still write to the SocketChannel object associated with that Android client and no error is thrown. Calling SocketChannel.isConnected() before writing to it returns true. What are we missing? Is the handling of sockets different with mobile devices? Thanks in advance for your help.

  Hi All, I have created a login page using java swing. and i created jar for the application. Now when I run the jar then my login page is displayed then i minimize the application and again run the jar then another instance of my application is displayed (means now in my system I have two login page. 1 is in minimized format and another is in normal state. But I want that if in my system login page is already running and is minimized then if i run the jar once again then it will not start as a new application rather it should maximize the earlier login page. • What would you recommend for a large-scale Java data grid technology: Terracotta, GigaSpaces, Cohere

  I've been reading up on so-called "data grid" solutions for the Java platform including Terracotta, GigaSpaces and Coherence. I was wondering if anyone has real-world experience working any of these tools and could share their experience. I'm also really curious to know what scale of deployment people have worked with: are we talking 2-4 node clusters or have you worked with anything significantly larger than that? I'm attracted to Terracotta because of its "drop in" support for Hibernate and Spring, both of which we use heavily. I also like the idea of how it decorates bytecode based on configuration and doesn't require you to program against a "grid API." I'm not aware of any advantages to tools which use the approach of an explicit API but would love to hear about them if they do in fact exist. :) I've also spent time reading about memcached but am more interested in hearing feedback on these three specific solutions. I would be curious to hear how they measure up against memcached in the event someone has used both.

  URL normalization (or URL canonicalization) is the process by which URLs are modified and standardized in a consistent manner. The goal of the normalization process is to transform a URL into a normalized or canonical URL so it is possible to determine if two syntactically different URLs are equivalent. Strategies include lowercasing, adding trailing slashes, https = http, etc. The Wikipedia page lists many. Got a favorite method of doing this in Java? Perhaps a library (Nutch?), but I'm open. Smaller and fewer dependencies is better. I'll handcode something for now and keep an eye on this question.

• Synchronizing Java Visualizer Audio and Visual

  I've run into a problem creating a visualizer for .mp3 files in Java. My goal is to create a visualization that runs in time with the .mp3 file being played. I can currently visualize an .mp3 OR play it, but not both at the same time. I am using libraries which may make this trickier than necessary. I currently: Read in the .mp3 as a FileInputStream. a) Convert the FileInputStream into a Bitstream and run the Visualizer OR b) Pass the FileInputStream to a library Play method where it converts it into a Bitstream, decodes it, and plays it. I am using the JLayer library to play and decode the .mp3. My question is: how do I synchronize the two actions so that I can run both at the same time AND they line up (so my visualizations correspond to the changing frequencies). This implies that they finish at the same time as well.
