• Question about a dialog form and submit errors

• PHP Redirect location with htaccess

  In one of the page I have is where administrators are allowed, however, I use if the session isn't set, the header will redirect them to index.php and that method works. If I replace index.php with home which is for the htaccess which changes it to index.php but it gives an error in the browser This works: if(!isset($_SESSION['MEMBER'])){ header("Location: index.php"); } This does not work: if(!isset($_SESSION['MEMBER'])){ header("Location: home"); } htaccess: RewriteRule ^home$ index.php The error in Firefox: The page isn't redirecting properly Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. • Processing large recordsets in Rails

  Hello, I'm trying to perform a daily operation on a larger than normal dataset (2m+ records). However, Rails seems to take a very long time performing operations on such a dataset. Operations like Dataset.all.each do |data| ... end take a very long time to complete (I assume this is because it can't fit all the items into memory at once, right?). Does anyone have any strategies on how I could handle this situation? I know SQL would probably speed up the process, but I'm looking to use the Rails environment as I can do many more complicated things to the data than I can with just SQL statements.

• In Visual Studio 2008, how can I make control+click do a "Go To Definition"?

  I know this is not strictly about programming, but it's pretty close. Anyway, in Delphi, you can hold control and click on a method to jump to its definition. In VS2008, you have to right-click and select "Go To Definition". I use this function quite often, so I'd really like to get VS to behave like delphi in this regard - its so much quicker to ctrl+click. I don't think there's a way to get this working in base VS2008 - am I wrong? Or maybe there's a plugin I could use? Edit: Click then F12 does work - but isn't really a good solution for me.. It's still way slower than ctrl+click. I might try AutoHotkey, since I'm already running it for something else. Edit: AutoHotkey worked for me.   I have read McCarthy's 1960 paper on LISP and found no reference to anything that's similar to user-defined macros or normal order evaluation. I was wondering when marcos first appeared in programming language history (and also in Lisp history): When was the idea of user-defined code transformation (before interpretation or compilation) first described (theoretically)? What was the first programming language implementation to have Lisp-like macros (by "Lisp-like" I mean "using a readable Turing-complete language to do code-transformation")? (including non-Lisps -- Forth for example is quite old, but I'm not sure if the first Forth implementation already had "IMMEDIATE") What was the first Lisp dialect to have macros? Thank you!

• How do I do import hooks in IronPython/Silverlight?

  I'm extending TryPython to (along with various other things) allow users to save a file and subsequently import that file. TryPython overloads the built in file operations, so I need to know what parts of import need to hooked into in order for import to use the overloaded file operations. Really, a basic overview of IronPython's import when used in Silverlight would be extremely helpful. I don't need a complete working solution (although I won't stop you from writing one! :). I'm a Python newbie, and I really have no idea where to even begin. Thanks!

  I have a SDL app that compiles fine, and the images show up, but only if they are in the correct folder with the binary next to them, if the images are moved they wont show up next time the application is run. How can I make a complete binary that will allow me to compile the images as well as the code, so that I can distribute one single binary, and not a zip file with all of my assets. I have looked into writing a .deb file which is what I think I need, but the process looked complicated. I am running Ubuntu 10.10 I only need to distribute to Ubuntu

  In a multithreaded Java application, I just tracked down a strange-looking bug, realizing that what seemed to be happening was this: one of my objects was storing a reference to an instance of ServerSocket on startup, one thread would, in its main loop in run(), call accept() on the socket while the socket was still waiting for a connection, another thread would try to restart the component under some conditions, the restart process missed the cleanup sequence before it reached the initialization sequence as a result, the reference to the socket was overwritten with a new instance, which then wasn't able to bind() anymore the socket which was blocking inside the accept() wasn't accessible anymore, leaving a complete shutdown and restart of the application as the only way to get rid of it. Which leaves me wondering: with no references left to the ServerSocket instance, what would free the socket for a new connection? At what point would the ServerSocket become garbage collected? In general, what are good practices I can follow to avoid this type of bug?

  Hi all, I was wondering what's the best way to save all the files that are retrieved when Selenium visits a site. In other words, when Selenium visits http://www.google.com I want to save the HTML, JavaScript (including scripts referenced in src tags), images, and potentially content contained in iframes. How can this be done? I know getHTMLSource() will return the HTML content in the body of the main frame, but how can this be extended to download the complete set of files necessary to render that page again.   I'm in the beginning of starting a small open source project. When cloning the main repository one gets a complete build environment with all the libraries and all the tools needed to make an official installer file, with correct version numbers. I like the fact that anyone who wants to contribute can clone the repository and get started with anything they want. But I'm thinking this makes it to easy for Evil People to create malicious installers and release into the wild. How should it be structured? What do you recommend including in the repository, versus keeping on the build server only?

  Hello. I'm PHP-programmer, but I'm extremely interested in learning Java. So I decided to change speciality from PHP to Java. At the moment I have an opportunity to try to make quite simple web-application (it should contain 2-3 forms, several pages with information from the database and authorization module) and also I have a chance to choose any technology I want. Besides I have about 3 months for this task. I've decided to develop site with Java technologies for the purpose of studying. I've already read a book about Java ("Java2 Complete Reference" by P.Naughton) and currently I'm reading "Thinking in Java" by B.Eckel. I clearly understand it's not enough for efficient development, but I want, at least, to try. I would be very appreciated for the advises, which framework (for example) or technology to choose (Spring, Grails etc.) and what primary aspects and technologies of Java should I pay attention to? I have recently come across some extremely bad (in my eyes) legacy code that lends itself to chaos (someHugeJavafile.js) which contains a lot of the logic used in many of the pages. Let's say for example that you have a Form that you need to complete. 1. Personal Details 2. Address Information 3. Little bit more about yourself You don't want to overload the person with all the fields at once, so you decide to split it up into steps. Do you create separate pages for Personal Details, Address Information and a Little bit more about yourself. Do you create controls for each and hide and show them on a postback or using some update panel? Do you use jQuery and do some checking to ensure that the person has completed the required fields for the step and show the new "section" by using .show()? How do you usually find the balance?

• Accessing children of loaded swf in Flex Image component

  I am loading an external swf into an component. It loads everything fine and I can see buttons working in the swf, but I can't seem to figure out how to add children to this swf from the core mxml file. I have tried tracing out all the children of the image component but can't find where or how to do this. This is the image component: <Image id="image" mask="{ maskCanvas }" source="{ _source }" mouseDown="image.startDrag()" visible="{ _source != null &amp;&amp; image.percentLoaded == 100 }" showEffect="{ fadeInEffect }" complete="imageComplete()" doubleClickEnabled="true" doubleClick="onDoubleClick()" /> And in my AS, I am trying to do something like this: myComponent.image.addChild("myMC"); But i either don;t see the clip or there I get an error about not being able to add the child to a ui component.

• Switching to FormViewMode.Edit is very slow

  When i switch an ASP.Net Formview from readonly mode to edit mode it takes more than 6 seconds(from edit to readonly takes a split second). I have no idea whats the reason for it. The EditItemTemplate contains a lot of controls(table,textboxes,dropdownlists) but in fact not more than the ItemTemplate has. Yet i have even commented out the complete FormView.DataBound where the controls are data bounded but without significant change. My ASP.Net Web Apllication is using Ajax and the Formview is completely nested in an UpdatePanel. Any suggestions or assumptions for this behaviour?

• Rails: Is there a way to check for incomplete JPG file upload?

  I have a Rails app that processes and serves up jpg files that were uploaded via FTP. On several occasions the FTP process was disconnected and left many incomplete .jpg files. I was surprised to see that the incomplete jpgs behave as normal jpg files in my app even tho they have incomplete image data. I have since implemented a more robust FTP process where the uploaded file is initially *.tmp and gets renamed to .jpg after an FTP success code is received. My problem is, I still have all of these incomplete jpg files on the server and can't figure out how to programmatically weed them out. I can actually display them in a view without generating any errors, but there is only a partial image there. I tried RMagick but they all successfully load (using Image.read) and report the valid x & y resolutions. I have so far not been able to determine a way to programmatically differentiate between an incomplete and complete jpg uploaded image. Any ideas?

  In my application I am trying to save an arbitrary part of a rendered HTML canvas to an image file. In my Javascript I call ctx.getImageData(x, y, w, h) and pass the resulting object to my macruby code (though if you know a solution in objc I am also very interested). There I'm trying to create a NSBitmapImageRep object so that I can then save to an image format the user desires. • too many threads due to synch communication

  I'm using threads and xmlrpclib in python at the same time. Periodically, I create a bunch of thread to complete a service on a remote server via xmlrpclib. The problem is that, there are times that the remote server doesn't answer. This causes the thread to wait forever for a response which it never gets. Over time, number of threads in this state increases and will reach the maximum number of allowed threads on the system (I'm using fedora). I tried to use socket.setdefaulttimeout(10); but the exception that is created by that will cause the server to defunct. I used it at server side but it seems that it doesn't work :/ Any idea how can I handle this issue?

  Why is it that I can never get JQuery serialize to work properly. I guess I must be missing something. I can serialize a form data and it shows in an alert: var forminfo = $j('#frmuserinfo').serialize(); alert(forminfo); I then post to my PHP page thus: $j.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "cv-user-process.php", data: "forminfo="+forminfo, cache: false, complete: function(data) { } }); But WHENEVER (not the first time) I try to insert/update the data in the DB I only ever get 1 varaible passed: Here is my PHP script: $testit = mysql_query("UPDATE cv_usersmeta SET inputtest='".$_POST['forminfo']."' WHERE user='X'"); the data passed only ever gets the first variable. why? I think it is more the way I deal with the php but it drives me nuts and always takes me far too long to find where I am going wrong.

• Java multidimensional array and scanner novice Q

  I'm new to Java and trying to in essence implement a grid with a character, and if the user inputs 'w' 'a' 's' or 'd' the character moves up/down/left/right within the plane. I created a multidimensional array sized 10x10 public static String[][] grid = new String[10][10]; And then just used a for loop to print "*"s in a 10x10 grid, except for grid[a][b] which is equal to character "A" i.e. my thing to be moved around. That seemed to work alright, then I needed to detect the 'wasd' input from the user so I set up a: Scanner in = new Scanner (System.in); while (in.hasNext()) And I had then: String s = in.next(); char ch = s.charAt(0); switch (ch) but I couldn't make this work, and it wasn't because I didn't complete the "switch" statement, I did, I just see it void copying and pasting the entire thing. I'm sure its incredibly easy slight thing I am missing, can you please point it out for me?

I have to extract the lines that are identical based on some of the fileds (i.e. find lines which contain the same values for fields 1,2,3 12,and 13) Other fields contents have no importance for searching but the whole extracted lines have to be complete.   Question: In the path HUDSON_HOME/jobs/<jobname>/builds/<timestamp>/workspace-files, there are a series of .tmp files. What are these files, and what feature of Hudson do they support? Background Using Hudson version 1.341, we have a continuous build task that runs on a slave instance. After the build is otherwise complete, including archiving the artifacts, task scanner, etc., the job appears to hang for a long period of time. In monitoring the master node, I noted that many .tmp files were being created and modified under builds//workspace=files, and that some of them were very large. This appears to be causing the delay, as the job completed at the same time that files in this path stopped changing. Some key configuration points of the job: It is tied to a specific slave node It builds in a 'custom workspace' It triggers a downstream job that builds in the same custom workspace on the same slave node

• NoSQL replacement for memcache

  We are having a situation in which the values we store on memcache are bigger than 1MB. It is not possible to make such values smaller, and even if there was a way, we need to persist them to disk. One solution would be to recompile the memcache server to allow say 2MB values, but this is either not clean nor a complete solution (again, we need to persist the values). Good news is that We can predict quite acurately how many key/values pair we are going to have We can also predict the total size we will need. A key feature for us is the speed of memcache. So question is: is there any noSQL replacement for memcache which will allow us to have values longer than 1MB AND store them in disk without loss of speed? In the past I have used tokyotyrant/cabinet but seems to be deprecated now. Any idea?
