  Hello all, I'm trying to setup Ubuntu on an old PC. I ran the following command, lspci, in order to get info on the wireless card installed. 00:0a.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88w8335 [Libertas] 802.11b/g Wireless (rev 03) Does anyone know where I can get drivers for this card/chip? And also, how to install (I'm rather new to linux). Also, I'm sure the card is working because I just formatted over xp, and everything was working well. Thanks in advanced!

• Is computer's DRAM size not as important once we get a Solid State Drive?

  I am thinking of getting a Dell X11 netbook, and it can go up to 8GB of DRAM, together with a 256GB Solid State Drive. So in that case, it can handle quite a bit of Virtual PC running Linux, and Win XP, etc. But is the 8GB of RAM not so important any more. Won't 2GB or 4GB be quite good if a Solid State Hard drive is used? I think the most worried thing is that the memory is not enough and the less often used data is swapped to the pagefile on hard disk and it will become really slow, but with SDD drive, the problem is a lot less of a concerned? Is there a comparison as to, if DRAM speed is n, then SDD drive speed is how many n and hard disk speed is how many n just as a ball park comparison?

  Hello All, I have one server 2008 installed with AD, SQL and IIS. Now I am trying to attach different HDD on this server only. I am able to install windows server 2008 r2 64bit on the server, but when I try to install the ActiveDirectory on the server the setup doesn't get completed and keep processing at following level. "Configuring Active directory and local host domains ......." If I attach same HDD on any other PC Active directory setups completes successfully. My server is Xeon quad core with 8GB of RAM. Can any one help the appropriate solution for this?

• Slow performance over network (Ubuntu)

  i did setup this NodeJs TCP Server and tested it with a message flooder. Just to see how the performance of the server is. While the message throughput is great if i run the server and the message flooder on the same computer (ubuntu), the throughput dramaticaly decreases if i start the server on computer1(ubuntu1) and the message flooder on computer2(also ubuntu). Both PC are on the same network. In fact, they are directly connected to each other. I started searching the internet for reasons and i suppose i need to tune TCP on both Ubuntu-pcs but until now i haven't been successfull at all. Has anyone experienced such problems, or could someone help me out? • How to configure remote access to multiple subnets behind a SonicWALL NSA 2400

  I have a client that uses a SonicWALL NSA 2400 as their firewall. I need to setup a second LAN subnet for a handful of PC. Management has decided that there should be a second subnet even though intend to allow access across the two subnets - I know... I'm having trouble getting communication across the 2 subnets. I can ping each gateway, but I cannot ping or seem to route traffic fron subnet A to subnet B. Here is my current setup: X0 Interface: LAN zone with IP addres 192.168.1.1 X1 Interface: WAN zone with WAN IP address X2 Interface: LAN zone with IP address 192.168.75.1 I have configured ARP and routes for the secondar subnet (X2) according to this SonicWALL KB article: http://www.sonicwall.com/downloads/supporting_multiple_firewalled_subnets_on_sonicos_enhanced.pdf using "Example 1". At this point I don't minding if I have to throw the SonicWALL GVC software VPN client into the mix to make it work. It feel like I have an Access Rule issue, but for testing I made LAN LAN, WAN LAN and VPN LAN rules wide open with the same results.

• My wifi internet router connection resets when more devices connected

  The wifi internet router is connected directly to Internet cable. The main Pc is attached to it via LAN cable, while 1 laptop and 3 mobile phones connect to it via wifi. Whenever 2 or more devices connect via wifi, the internet connection breaks after one minute and internet connection resets. I tracked this behaviour for weeks, and came to conclusion: It seems like some 'device 1' got IP then it went to suspend mode. Then 'device 2' connected to router and got the same IP. Then the 'device 1' woke up from suspend mode and tried to use his old IP. The router sees that 2 same IP addresses exists and automatically reset internet connection. Is this possible? Have I tracked the problem correctly and how to solve it? The router is set to lease 100 IP addresses to devices who try to connect. The password is strong and no hacker's device is being connected to my wifi network. Tried changing password and AP's name.

• Nginx Forward SSL for single site

  I have a nginx server setup and it works fine for http however i would like to bypass the proxy for https connection. I want it so that when someone goes to my ip https:// ip1 (Nginx server) it bypasses ngix and forwards all traffic to https:// ip2(webserver) i do not need ngix to do this for any ssl website just one particular website. SO Client to https:// ip1 to https:/ /ip2 to https:// ip1 to client pc I just want the nginx to not intercept the connection and forward it on and on return forward the connection to client Im guessing i do this by nat mascarade buy not exactly sure how to do it and if i will need to tell nginx to ignore ssl aswell can someone help me please this has gone me stuck

• Windows XP detecting printer as USB hub - how to start again without reinstalling XP?

  Fresh install of Windows XP SP3. No system restore. Didn't install USB printer drivers before connected it to PC. Mistakenly allowed XP to auto install some driver which turned out to be a USB hub(!). Now I can't get XP to see the printer as a printer. Have tried uninstalling the offending driver in Device Manager and rebooting but it keeps being detected as a USB hub. How do I revert XP back to a pristine, unsullied USB state so it doesn't know about the USB hub and will (hopefully) install the printer as a printer?

• LAN access via USB from Ipod Touch?

  I need to browse the local web server from my Ipod Touch to test apps we're developing. I'm not allowed to install a separate wireless access point which would be the easiest solution. Can I use the USB cable for this? Also, the local PC is a Dell Mini 9 running Ubuntu. Has anyone managed to use the wireless port to create an ad hoc connection to an Ipod Touch so the Ipod can browse the Ubuntu web server? This would be an alternate option for me. Thank you!

  I have Asterisk/1.8.13.1 Asterisk GUI-version : SVN--r Yes, quite old one, but I can not update it since this is installed on my Synology NAS. NAS is connected to internet thru router Asus RT-N16. I should use the following data to connect to the server: Auth name – 7499952XXXX User name/User ID/Display Name – nickname Authorization user name - [email protected] Domain - sip.beeline.ru SIP proxy server - msk.sip.beeline.ru I've also found the following string: [email protected]:password:[email protected]@msk.sip.beeline.ru:5060/7499952XXXX I've tested the parameters on my PC thru X-Lite and it works well (so, assume there is no any problem with the router, no need to do anything with router's NAS settings). But since I am quite new to Asterisk, I can not understand where to input all these data. Asterisk GUI doesn't have fields for proxy: Can somebody please help me with step-by-step instruction? I added delimiters part and when I tried running the query from phpmyadmin, Firefox went into not responding state. After that I started Internet Explorer and tried opening my pages which use the same database, it worked fine. However, I tried opening phpmyadmin and IE went into not responding state as well. I restarted both servers. Later restarted PC. Tried again but its same behavior. So whats wrong with this tiny little code ? Am I missing something which might be causing infinite loop ? Thanks

• How can I disable Ctrl+Shift+Arrow from causing my screen to flip?

  Windows 7 Home Premium, Catalyst Control Center. Without any apparent reason, after booting my PC, I got this little balloon "HD 4600 Drivers updated". I did not install any new cards or drivers or anything. But now, when I try to select an entire word by pressing Ctrl + Shift + ? / ? my screen flips left to right and upside down. Where can I disable this annoying shortcut? OR Any other way of selecting the entire word? There is no option for this in Catalyst Control Center.

• ASP.NET, PostgreSQL, Mono, Ubuntu, Apache: Good idea?

  I am a long-time Microsoft .NET developer. ASP.NET/MSSQL/IIS has been my bread & butter over the past 6 years. Now, I'm getting fond of the "lightweightness" of Ubuntu 10.xx server. I'm also loving SSH-ing it from my Windows 7 PC and installing apps using the awesome "apt-get" command. I've also been using HeidiSQL with MySQL now and loving it. It feels like Management Studio. However, i've read that PostgreSQL "may" be better than MySQL, and I did experience some MySQL overloads in my Moodle box (but this can be just a poor tweaking in my part). My question is, would it be a good idea to run this configuration? ASP.NET 4.0 PostgreSQL (the latest one I can apt-get!) Ubuntu 10.10 with Mono running on Apache Also, I assume I would be using Npgsql for Mono as my connector from ASP.NET to PostgreSQL?

• Does it mean video card is broken?

  Hello, I've just installed some sort of relatively old video card and now computer freezes while playing certain video games (Civilization 4, HOMM V). Some other video games with far better graphics works well (Dawn of War I). Note that "freezing" games runs nicely and smoothly for about 10-15 mins, no lag or any other indication that video card may be not good enough. And then PC suddenly freezes, nothing works but rebooting. The question is, is this a normal behavior of a video card which is simply "not good enough" for the games in question, or is there something broken? Card itself or motherboard or whatever? OS is Windows 7 if that matters, and I don't know exact videocard specs but that probably doesn't matter for this sort of question... thanks in advance!

  I have Windows 7 64bit as my OS + SQL Server 2008 R2 installed. I can connect to SQL Databases (2008), but cannot connect to a SQL 2005 database. I can, however, connect to the 2005 SQL Database on a PC that has Windows XP as the OS and also has SQL Server 2008 R2 installed. So it seems that it works fine on XP but not on Windows 7 (32 or 64bit). is this an Operating System issue?   Hi, I was about to download the PC Game Mafia II ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia_II ). The site said that do i have steam and i said no ... it asked whether to download and i gave yes. After downloading a 1.5mb exe it executed, dowloaded and installed additional files. After that the program opened. It gave me a feeling that that could have written in flex. if some body could clear this then that could be nice... besides, i went to the mafia ii official site to download the demo and again it asked whether i have steam installed and i said yes. then the firefox application launch dialog box appeared. and again i had this question how to launch an application using firefox... ?? may be i should ask this as a separate question but since it is associated with the above question i asked it here...

• VMWare Host needing ESXi 5.0 - Running on a 2008 R2 Host?

  I have a VMWare image supplied by my Phone System provider which manages a contact management interface, they tell me that VMWare EsXi5.0 is the highest supported host. I'm used to MS HyperV and have no VMWare experiance. At present I have this guest running on a simple desktop PC running ESXi5.0.0, I'd idealy like to run this guest (it's Windows 7 with their software already installed and configured) on a Windows 2008R2 server I have available, as I said, I'm used to HyperV and I can't easily identify if there is a version of VMWare that supports ESXi5.0 guests that will run on a Windows 2008 R2 server host. Is there such a product, what's it called, and with one guest can I run it without purchasing a license? Thanks

• Bridging a Windows 7 and Ubuntu dual boot inside an OS

  I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed on my local PC. They're both installed on separate partitions on the same machine, and when the computer boots up the user is given the option to choose which one they want to boot use as the OS. This all works fine, but I want to use Windows 7 instead of Ubuntu, I am required to restart the computer and boot up the other OS. Is is possible to use an "inline" tool that will allow to change between both OSs as if they were windows in Windows 7? Which tool would that be? Does anyone know of anything else than Parallels? Also are there any free tools that would do this?. Many Thanks.

• Microsoft Office Compability Pack "The converter failed to open the file" error & "This is a pre-release version"

  What issues have people encountered with older OS's (2000, XP) and olders versions of Microsoft Office (2000, XP, 2003) with the 'Microsoft Office Compitibility Pack'? I have a couple of Windows 2000 client PC's encountering different errors when attempting to open .docx or .xlsx documents, some with Office XP and the others with Office 2003. Reading through forums it appears that the different versions of the compatibility pack, not all were compatible with Windows 2000 (versions 3 & 4 are not). There are also Service Packs for the Compatibility Pack. With these Windows 2000 clients, it seems i need the Compatibility Pack version 2, then to install the Service Packs, yet i'm unable to find a link for version 2 of it. First error message: "This is a pre-release version of the Compatibilty Pack and can open pre-release Office 2007 files only." Is solved below. Second error message: "The converter failed to open the file." Is still on going.

  Hi all, My query is related to broadband network deployment. I have a DSL modem connection provided by my operator. Now the DSL modem has a built-in NAT and DHCP server, hence it allocates IP addresses to any client devices (laptops, PC, mobile) that connect to it. However, the DSL modem also gets a public IP address X that is provisioned by the operator. My question is Whether this IP address X provisioned by operator is an IP address that is directly on the public Internet? Is it likely (practical scenario) that my broadband operator will put in one more NAT+DHCP server and provide IP addresses to all the modems within his broadband network. In this case, the IP addresses allotted to the modem devices will not be directly on the public Internet. Thanks in advance.

• Photoshop not loading fonts correctly

  I'm running Photoshop CS4 on WinXP and I have been sent a PSD as well as the needed fonts. I have installed all the fonts I got into the Windows fonts directory. When I open up the PSD in photoshop it tells me I am missing some fonts, then when I go to click on some text it tells me you are missing Roboto Bold or Roboto Regular. I check the font dropdown list in Photoshop and I see Roboto and that's it, not sure if that is correct or not? I then go to the windows fonts dir to confirm all the fonts are there and they are. See below.. Now I'm not sure if it makes any difference that the PSD I believe was made on a MAC & I'm on a PC?

• Outpost Firewall asks every time one specific application tries to access to network

  One of installed applications on my PC tries to send UDP packed. Outpost warns me about this. I say that Outpost should allow all activity for this application. But next time application wants to send UDP packed Outpost asks me again and again the same question. There is no problems with other applications but with this only. • How to zoom the desktop under Gnome?

  I want to use my PC from the couch, but from there, I cannot see what I'm clicking. I enabled Enhanced Zoom Desktop in CCSM and it looked like it does what I want. But when "Sync mouse" is enabled, the whole desktop pans around with the tiniest mouse twitch, making me seasick. When I disable it, the mouse pointer is mapped to the non-zoomed desktop, which means that when I click on a button I am seeing on the desktop, the click registers somewhere else, and I practically cannot do anything while under zoom. Is there a better solution (does not have to involve CCSM)? Clarification: I am looking for something which zooms the entire desktop, not for a detached magnifier window.
