  • int datatype in 64bit JVM. Is it more "inefficient" than long?

    I heard that using shorts on 32bit system is just more inefficient than using ints. Is this the same for ints on a 64bit system? Python recently(?) basically merged ints with long and has basically a single datatype long, right? If you are sure that your app. will only run on 64bit then, is it even conceivable (potentially a good idea) to use long for everything in Java?

    Hi, I would like to rewrite the collection that is returned by Mage::getResourceModel('sales/order_collection'); My goal is to rewrite this resource so that i can filter out the collection for particular Store. Any ideas on how to do it? I tried directly rewrite collection of the sales/order module but no success. I was able to rewrite sales/order itself but not the collection, because when i call getCollection() it returns "Fatal error: Call to undefined method Mage_Sales_Model_Mysql4_Order::getCollection() " Any idea will help.   • Activation Function, Initializer function, etc, effects on neural networks for face detection

    There's various activation functions: sigmoid, tanh, etc. And there's also a few initializer functions: Nguyen and Widrow, random, normalized, constant, zero, etc. So do these have much effect on the outcome of a neural network specialising in face detection? Right now I'm using the Tanh activation function and just randomising all the weights from -0.5 to 0.5. I have no idea if this is the best approach though, and with 4 hours to train the network each time, I'd rather ask on here than experiment!

  • stat() doesn't find a file in c++

    on Linux 12.04 I have an executable file located in say: /a/b/exe and a config file on /a/b/config when doing: cd /a/b/ ./exe everything's ok and the stat function finds the file config on /a/b/ HOWEVER,when running from root /a/b/exe the stat doesn't find the config file any idea why? it makes it impossible to run the binary using a script that isn't ran from the folder of the exe....
