• FxCop / Code Analysis with VS2010 Ultimate

  I've getting some information about this, but I still can find a proper answer, I was asked recently in my company for this : "run a fxcop analysis on that code and tell me the results". Ok, I have VS2010 Ultimate which has code analysis, but before making any comment, I browse it on the internet cause I want to implement the best choice... So, let's say I'm gonna use the same rules on both analyzers: Should I recommend using one above the other? Should I say "hey, thats kinda old, let's use code analysis!" Should I get the same results on different computers? (for what I undersand, fxcop gives you some "points" and for what I've read, sometimes it gives you diff points on diff computers, I don't know about this with code analysis Thanks, any help would be appreciated

  Hey guys I am really new to the C++ programing I have a little knowledge in C and a bit more in C++, but I do not know them enough to call myself a programmer. I am working as a PHP Web Developer I like being a crafts man and creating things so that is the reason to combine the programming with web development. I think that I could really benefit from both of them and so... My question is: Is it a good Idea to learn C++ with Qt or not? Can you give me pros and cons of both? Note: I do not want to become a programmer and give up the web development I want to combine them both.

• Randomization of biomes

  You know how in Minecraft, the World is ever-expanding and all the biomes are randomized? My generalized question is: In relation to a space simulation that is also ever-expanding as the player moves about the world, how would one go about programming this randomization in Java? My real question is: Could I get a simplified example broken down into these example classes: astroids (This would include how many astroids there are, their positioning in space, their size, how often the larger astroids occur, how close they are to each other, the limitations of how many of the large asteroids can be in one field, how often astroid fields are generated, etc.) star-types (size, color, type, how often they occur, where hey occur, etc.) inhabitable-planets (size, positioning, how often they're generated, where they are generated, etc.) This would be very helpful currently since I wish to make a simplified version of such a program.

• totally stuck trying to SSHing remote server

  Hey guys, So i've been given access to ssh a server. I have the username/password, but server apparently requires a public key (now bear in mind that i am a noob in ssh). When I do: ssh -p 52 [email protected] terminal says Permission denied (publickey). So I went using ssh-keygen -t rsa and got myself the id_rsa and id_rsa.pub files in /root/.ssh. Chmoded /root/.ssh to 700 and /root/.ssh/* to 600. Tried sshing server.com again, same error. What am I missing? I've been given a Putty Pagant Key file (.ppk) by the SYSADMIN of server.com. Apparently, other users (all Windows) can connect using Putty Pagant.exe. Please help :)

• How do I create tileable solid noise for map generation?

  Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out how to generate tileable fractals in code (for game maps, but that's irrelevant) I've been trying to modify the Solid Noise plug-in shipped with GIMP (with my extremely limited understanding of how the code works) but I cant get mine to work correctly. My modified code so far (Java) GIMP's solid noise module that I'm basing my code off of (C) Here is what I'm trying to achieve but This is what I'm getting So if anybody can see what I've done wrong, or has a suggestion how I could go about doing it differently, I'd greatly appreciate it. • Moved sitemaps to a different subdomain and losing search referrals around the same time. Red herring or correlation?

  We started to lose search referral traffic around the same time that I moved some of our sitemaps to a subdomain. Could this have hurt us? I followed Google's steps to creating a sitemap under a different subdomain. The new sitemaps.foo.com subdomain is being crawled and indexed well. Both www.foo.com and sitemaps.foo.com have been verified in Google Webmaster Tools. They appear as distinct sites. Is this correct? I can't find a way in Webmaster Tools to say "Hey, sitemaps.foo.com is really owned by www.foo.com, so show them together and make sure to attribute sitemaps.foo urls to www.foo" Our www.foo.com/robots.txt Sitemap: http://www.foo.com/sitemap.xml Sitemap: http://sitemaps.foo.com/subdir/sitemap.xml.gz

• How do I get started with fog type effects in a first person game?

  Hey guys, I'm currently using JME3 to learn 3d game development in java, and I have run into a situation. I would like to add fog effects to my games, but I don't even know where to start to implement this. I know how to set the camera's far frustum to limit the render distance, but that just simply makes a sharp cutoff. I'd like the fog it up a bit to make it feel more natural. I'm looking for an answer that points me into the correct direction. I'm not looking for specific code snippets or even JME3's engine specifics. I just want to get an idea of how this stuff works in general. Thanks!

  I have just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and I have a problem with it. My mini-laptop has a display resolution of 800x480, however Ubuntu seems to support only a resolution of 800x600. I have looked for a solution, but I have found nothing which works. So, how can I set the display resolution to 800x480? hey, hola a todos! • Knockback enemy based off of direction sprite is facing

  Hey Everyone, Today I am trying to make it so if I hit the enemy then the enemy well be knocked backwards in the direction the sprite is facing. I am rotating the sprite around 360 degrees using a joystick on the screen and wanted to know the best practice or ways to accomplish this. I have come up with a few ideas but none of them make use of the sprites angle he is facing just a check to see if I hit the bottom then move him upward and so forth. I am just stumped on how to apply the sprites angle to the enemies x and y coordinate and move him accordingly. Has anyone tried this and have suggestions or things to look for? Thanks in advance.

• Trying to install/dual boot

  I have widows 8 (Pre-installed), and I was not a fan. So I thought I would try Ubuntu as many people from what I hear that use it, like it, and hey, free OS. Well before I was able to do all the instalations, I had to goto work, so my girlfriend (whio is not at all tech savy) decided to help. She told me she installed it, (It popped up with a thank you for installing message) She then shut it off. When she turned it on, when I turn it on, I boot right to windows, I have never installed a secondary OS. And I was hoping someone with more experiance than I could walk me through what I need to do in order to be able to dual boot Ubuntu version is 14.04 and 64bit

• A proper file monitoring tool for Windows with notifications

  Developing in PHP, I'm usually confronted with various log files: apache, web apps, error logs etc. I'm currently using Notepad++ with the option to notify me when a file has changed. But when I need to monitor many files, I end up with too many tabs opened. I've used some of these, but they were lacking some basic stuff (like double clicking on the file to open it; oh, c'mon). What do you guys use for monitoring file changes? I needn't be "modern" or fancy. Just a simple "Hey, this file was changed. Here, click on it to open". (Maybe I'll end up making one myself, but I need to learn some more Java).

• Computer restarts when I choose my Lucid install from GRUB

  Hey, I have 4 OS's on my netbook, it's really more a toy. However, in my main OS (Ubuntu Lucid) is some data I don't like to lose. Today, whenever I choose this install from GRUB, the netbook (Asus eeePC 1001P if it's of help) waits 5 seconds (no kernel messages) and then reboots. The other entries (backtrack, Linux From Scratch, Windows XP) work fine. Can anyone hint me to where the error could be? It's not GRUB, right? So a reinstall wouldn't help? Is it the kernel? I'm afraid I didn't remember when and what the most recent automatic updates were.

  Hey guys, I'm rewriting my game now using software designing patterns and want to do the code, most correct I can. While implementing MVC(Model View Controller) I got a question which I would like to discuss or to hear some opinions of experts. The question is about management of unused frames... For example next sequence of windows: ResourceLoadingWindow - LoginWindow - GameWindow Definetly that I don't want to reuse ResourceLoadingWindow , since I'm using Java Applet and I don't see any situation when I will need to reuse it. The different story is about LoginWindow, which can be reused a lot of times, because some player would want to Logout and come back again in few minutes for example. I would like to know, following the MVC structure, should I destroy window, removing it from ContentPane or just hide? Maybe I need to unregister it from controller or I shouldn't do so? • Any Programming Languages Recommendations? A Space shooter game that allows two people to play at the same time?

  Hey Everyone, Do you remember a arcade game, that allow two people to versus or play each other? A Galaga/Gradius type game. Me and a couple of other people I know wanna make a game like this. We want to get some other opinions on what programming languages to use.(C or C++ isn't an option .). We plan to use an engine to help us build. It's gonna be a multiplayer game, so we would be handling the networking with this language as well. We are thinking about C#, Java, or Actionscript 3. Any Advice on this? And if anyone knows the arcade game I am referring to please post up :)! Edit Let me add something here, this game will be plain on computers and laptops only. • have a problem with my 2nd quad bottom left vertex position ? weirdd

  Hey all I'm just trying to add another quad to my frustum and when doing so I get this weird little error. What happens is the bottom left side of my quad seems to stick to the center point for no apparent reason that I can think of and or figure out from. has anyone else experienced this issue and knows a solution or would you like more information please do ask. here is my main.cpp file http://pastebin.com/g9q8uAsd I think its because of 2 different quad vertex array data is in the same array.

• Is there a pattern to restrict which classes can update another class?

  Say I have a class ImportantInfo with a public writable property Data. Many classes will read this property but only a few will ever set it. Basically, if you want to update Data you should really know what you're doing. Is there a pattern I could use to make this explicit other than by documenting it? For example, some way to enforce that only classes that implement IUpdateImportantData can do it (this is just an example)? I'm not talking about security here, but more of a "hey, are you sure you want to do that?" kind of thing.

  I have many pages with lots of text in it. But I will always have two sections of text and I want to prevent one section from appearing in search results, the other section must be indexed. <p class="please-index-me">text</p> <p class="get-out">never index me please</p> I thought that maybe if I load the "please don't index me text" with Javascript maybe search engines wouldn't look for it. But I am not sure it would work and this is not really nice. I was wondering if there is a way to tell search engines "hey, this text you can't grab, move on". So, is there a way to do it?

• iOS 5 New Features vs Android

  Browsing through the iOS 5 features list, I can’t help but notice a lot of it is catch up. Having owned both an iPhone and an Android for a considerable amount of time, I figured I would jot down my opinions. Notification Center – Completely ripped off from Android but looks good and is a much needed addition iMessage – This is very interesting as most people who would think it’s cool, probably really wouldn’t understand the significance.  Basically, Apple is adding an IM application to iOS.  Now iPhone / iPad users can sit around messaging each other how cool it is like Crackberry users circa 2003.  I guess the only real improvement over MMS is that you can easily setup groups, see when each other are typing, and don’t incur text messaging charges; at the expense of leaving your non-iOS buddies out (who wants to talk to those losers anyways?). Newstand – An app update and not an OS one (Apple typically doesn’t make distinctions).  It all seems like stuff my current Nook stuff will do.  Note: I did look to compare prices but it seems that information is not available without downloading iTunes.  lame. Reminders – TODO lists are ho hum, but the ability to have reminders when you arrive or leave a position is pretty cool. Twitter integration – The fact that the best Apple can come up with is ‘one at a timing’ online service integration is laughable at best. Camera – Can control it from the lock screen.  Now you’ll have tons of pocket lint photos in your iCloud to go along with the wicked shot of that cheetah that just unexpectedly ran by your apartment. Photos – Speaking of iCloud, all of your devices photos will be synced through it.  That’s cool I guess, not sure if Android will do the same. Safari – What?  You haven’t been reading rss feeds on your device this whole time?  Something tells me you aren’t about to start. PC Free – Finely Apple untethers the iPhone.  What took them so long? Game Center – This should be an interesting service.  Attention Apple fanboys immediately forget how they are blatantly copying Microsoft achievements (at least rename them). Wifi Sync – Just couldn’t cut the cord completely could they?  For what it’s worth, the Zune has been doing this for 5 years now. All in all a pretty big update.  Mostly iCloud.  Mostly keeping up the mobile status quo.  As an Android user, I can’t say there is anything I am envious of.
