• How to type french accents with a US Apple keyboard in Windows 7 (EN) with Boot Camp

  Hi, Everything's in the question. I have an iMac running Snow Leopard with a US Apple keyboard, and I've installed Windows 7 (english) with boot camp. I need to be able to type French accents but I don't really anyway to do it. I tried the way I did on Snow Leopard with the ALT + E and E for instance to make an e acute and even the Windows way with ALT + 1 3 0 but no luck. Any of you have something to suggest to me? • Why BSNL 3G not opening some websites ? [closed]

When I have purchased it, it could open the website : http://stackoverflow.com But, now from last 2 months, I am unable to open this website. :( I have changed my DNS server to 8.8.8.8 & Alternate server to 8.8.4.4. This both are the free google dns servers. But, still facing the same problem. For reference : http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using.html I am getting following error after loading : The server at stackoverflow.com is taking too long to respond. • Wireless networking on Gnome on Ubuntu 9 / 10

  So here's my problem: I have some netbooks (ASUS eee, and ACER Aspire Ones) that I've been tasked to set up as kiosk machines, locked up tight for normal users. I am a command-line, server man, so this gnome malarkey is all a bit new to me. I found a lovely 9.04 kiosk livecd that installs and runs exactly as I want it to, but I can't get the wireless working. So I dropped on a full 10.4 distro, and wireless works straight out of the box (so hardware is good) - all I needed to do was right-click on the network connection icon, enter my SSID and password (WPA/WPA2) and away it went, perfect. Further investigation on 10.4 distro shows that /etc/networking/interfaces is virtually empty (just auto lo iface lo inet loopback in it), even after I have set up the wireless thru the gnome taskbar applet (is that the right word?). So where does gnome / ubuntu store the network settings to bring the blasted wireless connection up, and what do I need to do on the kiosk version to get wireless running?

• Why not open a PDF file in the browser but first save it to the harddisk?

  Question Is it correct that saving a PDF to the harddisk first, and then opening it from there with some PDF reader (not the browser) is safer than opening it directly with the browser plugin? My current understanding I know that the PDF browser plugin might have a security leak and a manipulated PDF file might exploit it and get access to the user's computer. I recently heard that saving the PDF file frist and opening it then was safer. I don't understand why that should be safer. Can anyone explain? My logic would suggest that a manipulated file started from the harddisk can just as well exploit a security leak, say for instance, of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

• Samba 3.3 or later on Slackware 12 - how do I make this happen?

  I'm trying to upgrade the Samba server on a Slackware 12 box to serve as PDC for Windows 7 32bit machines (it now has a 3.0.3 and does the job for Win XP machines, but 7 refuses to join the domain - I'm posting this after having tried a few dozen hacks on the windows registry). I'm a newbie on Slackware (I usually dwell in Ubuntu) so I may be going about this the wrong way but this is what I've done so far: The Samba wiki has a couple of hacks for the registry and also seems to suggest a version later than 3.3 (though not in so many words) http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Windows7 Having scoured the net for later Samba binaries for Slackware 12 and gotten precisely nowhere, I decided that maybe I could compile the blessed thing. But I keep on getting compiler errors. I'm using this SlackBuild script http://ftp.twaren.net/Linux/slackware/slackware-current/source/n/samba/samba.SlackBuild Is there a better way to make this happen? (without upgrading the base system? it has so many finely tuned things running that I don't want to mess with the rest of the setup).

• How can I dual boot a UEFI OS and a legacy boot OS, or convert stock Windows 8 to BIOS?

  I have a computer (HP Pavilion g6-2342dx) which came with Windows 8, and thus the new UEFI boot system. I would like to install a few OS's which are not EFI compatible, and Arch GNU/Linux with BIOS mode. However, I would not like to completely wipe all my files to set to legacy. My preferred options would be to: 1. Multiboot legacy OS alongside my EFI os 2. Convert Windows 8 and Ubuntu to legacy without reformatting or switching to MSDOS part table. If anyone could suggest a solution or a method, your help would be appreciated! Thanks!

  Currently there is one external IP pointing to a Window Web Server. Now wish to add a Linux web server. Wish to know if the following setup is ok : 119.xxx.xxx.xxx points to Window Web Server 119.xxx.xxx.xxx/Linux_Server points to the new additional Linux Server. If the above scheme is ok, then how should it be done. (In terms of where the router should be placed and configured etc). • Trying to mount NFS share on Windows Machien at startup with Z: letter for all users

  Windows Server 2008 We are trying to mount a specific drive letter on a windows machine from a unix machine. We need the mount to be available to the server even if no users are logged in and to users who are logged in with If we run the command from the command prompt manually it conencts and we have access to the NFS share, and can open it and see and edit files. mount -o fileaccess=777 anon \\127.0.0.1\nav z: (ip address replaced with 127.0.0.1 for security reasons) However if we try to automate the task by making an entry in the task schedule for boot time, to execute the batch script, it adds a disconencted drive to the list in 'My Computer' but it is disconencted and when trying to access the drive an error is produced: Z: is not accessible The data area passed to a system call is too small.| Tried as administrator with highest privelidges, as SYSTEM (group) and as my user (adminstator level user) same results. Is there another way to do this? Most of the help I have found online suggest this way but it keeps failing.

• Feed Reader's - Looking for some suggestions

  I am doing my best to make it a point to keep an eye on some blogs of people in my industry, and am looking for a good feed reader. I use chrome. I live in chrome, and if I am not in Chrome, I am using xterm. Yet, I do get my tweets in Pidgin and do all my talking discussion from that. Maybe it makes sense to integrate something in that? I see web feed readers as a bit too distant to make good use of it (eg, have to open a page, and less 'in your face'). Although, I am a big fan of google stuff and use google apps and google voice and google cals and google docs, etc.. So how is feedburner? I like to preserver time. It'd be interesting if I could read my feeds offline on my laptop or ChromeOS CR-48 with offline websites? Well, would love to hear what you guys are doing and suggest.

• ubuntu automount: only mounting drives as root?

  I'm sharing the /mount dir with smb so users on my network can access use drives added to my linux box. Users are able to read files but not write, modify or delete files or directories. I'm using ubuntu 10.04 server edition with halevt installed for usb auto mounting. Afaik halevt is automounting the drives to /media/ but the drives are showing up as: drwxrwxr-x 1 root root 20480 2010-12-29 20:40 disk drwxrwxr-x 1 root root 24576 2010-12-21 17:20 Sparta mount gives me: /dev/sda1 on /boot type ext2 (rw) /dev/sdb1 on /media/disk type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,sync,allow_other,blksize=4096,default_permissions) /dev/sdc1 on /media/Sparta type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,sync,allow_other,blksize=4096,default_permissions) When I umount the drives, the folders /media/disk and /media/Sparta are both removed. I tried changing the permissions with chown to nobody:nogroup but it doesn't work (which I assume is because they are ntfs drives).

• Silverlight DataGrid not stretching to accommodate all items in data source?

  I'm having problems getting a Silverlight DataGrid to stretch to accommodate all the items in it's dataSource. I've got a Grid that contains two DataGrids. I've tried setting height=Auto on the Grid and the DataGrids. I've tried setting HorizontalContentAlignment="Stretch" on the Grid and the DataGrids. The object tag has height="100%" I've set the Height="*" on the RowDefinitions for the Grid Any help would be very much appreciated! I would like to have windows server 2008 R2 for server development. i don't want to format windows 7 and install windows sever as i got win 7 with laptop. • Change from IDE to AHCI after installing Windows 8

  I had my drive controller configured for IDE when I installed Windows 7. This didn't change when I upgraded to Windows 8. I now need to enable AHCI, but doing so causes Windows to fail to start. It doesn't know how to automatically fix the problem. I was able to use Regedit from the recovery area, in order to try using this fix that worked for Vista. That key is missing in Windows 8, however. I read that the relevant key is now in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci. But my settings already match the changes they suggest making. How can I get Windows to boot after enabling AHCI in the BIOS?

• Log application changes made to the system

  Hello, Windows 7, 64bit. I have an application which I don't trust but still need to run. I would like to run the installer of this application and later on the installed executable under some kind of "strace" for windows which will record what this application did to the system. Mainly: What files have been created / edited? What registery changed have been made? To what network hosts did the application tried to communicate? Ideally I would also be able to generate a "UNDO" action to undo all the changes. Please don't suggest full Virtualization solutions such as Virtualbox, VMWare and co. because the application should run in the host system (A "sandbox" approach will OTHO be accepted, IMHO).   Hi, I have home DSL connection from my ISP with a beetel modem at my end. I want to make my network wireless, so i bought a linksys wrt54gl and installed open-wrt on it. My ISP provides dynamic IP's with me connecting via pppoe. My question is how do I configure openwrt to work with this. Please suggest what option should I go with, or any other you recommend. DSL cable--Beetel Modem-- Wrt54gl in bridge mode with beetel modem doing the pppoe and having a DHCP server. DSL cable--Wrt54gl with wrt54gl handling the pppoe. Is option 2 possible, can I have a setup without bringing the beetel modem in the picture at all?

  Hello, I know there is landscape from canonical, but it has some $$ costs. Als there is webmin, and it can be used as a cluster management tool. Also there is m23, probably the most usable and interesting peace of manager software. But, what would you suggest to install and use on following configuration: 1) 100 desktop users, against an AD with quest authentication services installed. (ubunt8.04,9.04,9.10,10.04) 2) 50 servers (debian sid, lenny , ubuntu 8.04 and 10.04) We work on different software, so each group of persons need different configurations, each server has different pourposses, nothing is clusterized. And we have a good enough backup software. • Why doesn’t windows explorer show my removable / USB drive even though the command prompt does ?

  I'm running WinXP SP2. Around 50% of the time, when I slot in my USB drive. Windows explorer refuses to show the drive. If I click on the Safely remove hardware icon on the tray, I can see a menu item for the drive - say drive G: (the light on the USB drive is also on) If I type in G: into the address bar of explorer, it says 'Cannot find...' If I type in G: into a command prompt window, it works and I can do a dir to see the list of directories on the drive. To fix this, I've to remove-reinsert the pen-drive. But doing it every day is annoying. Also this happens only on this machine.. I use this drive on my home machine and it works flawlessly each time. Can anyone suggest things that I could try ? • Is it Secure to Grant Apachie User Ownership of Directories & Files for Wordpress

  I'm currently setting up WordPress on an Ubuntu server 12 everything runs fine but there is an issue when it comes to automatically updating and uploading media via WP as Apache "www-data" user does not have permissions to write to the directories. "user1" has full permission All my directories have permissions of 0755 and files 644 my directories setup is as follows: /home/user1/public_html All WP files and directories are in "public_html" In order to work around the auto updating and uploading media I've granted Apache user ownership to the following directories sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-content -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-includes -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-admin -R I would like to know security wise how secure this is and if it is not secure what would be the best solution? That will allow me to keep all files and directories owned by user1 and still allow wp to be able to automatically update and uploading media
