• Analyze a wireless network that constantly drops/has speed issues

  Hello, I'm curious what the best tools are to use for analyzing problems with a WiFi network. Here's the scenario: I have a WiFi router (Belkin N+) that's setup in AP mode. I have three RT-N13U's that I've purchased to use as 'repeaters', but I've had so many problems when more than one of them is running (bad routes) that I've only got one active. Sometimes certain boxes on my network can't talk to others, and drops are quite frequent and quite aggravating. I'm running Mac, Windows, and Linux (Gentoo) boxes on this network, so any software, or steps I should take that work for any of those boxes should be sufficient. Apologies if this is answered somewhere else - I'll close it as a dupe if so.

• How can I set up sendmail to forward all mail to an external MTA?

  We have multiple applications that currently talk SMTP to an external MTA. The emails have arbitrary destination domains (they're emails to be sent to our users), but all from the same internal domain ([email protected]). I want to set up an internal MTA (i guess with sendmail) that queues all mails, and have the internal MTA forward these emails to the external MTA, because the external MTA occasionally goes down and this causes various problems in our applications. I figure I can set up sendmail as a queuing middleware. If the above assumptions are correct, what would the sendmail configuration look like? The 'mailertable' feature looks promising, and so does 'SMART_HOST'. Any thoughts before I explore these possibilities? Jae

• Windows 2003 shutdown instead of reboot

  Hi all, I've got a very strange problem. On the net I can only find problems with Server 2003 pc's, that reboot instead of shutting down, but in my case... (go figure) it does the opposite. When I choose to reboot, the system shutdown. Yes I am sure I used the reboot button. It happens via start == reboot and it happens when clicking on the reboot button when the update's have been installed. Nothing changed to the system's hardware. Only update's have been installed on the system. I did notice something odd in the logs when rebooting: Description: Timed out sending notification of target device change to window of "C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE" KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924390 They talk about a removable drive, but in my case, it's explorer.exe :s it appears 4 times. OS: Windows Server 2003 R2. Services: AD, DNS, DHCP, WSUS. Thanks in advance! Greetings from Belgium Shane

• PHP - a different open_basedir per each virtual host

  Hi I've came across on this problem, I have a sever running apache and php. We have many virtual hosts but we've noticed that a potentially malicious user could use his web space to browse other user's files(via a simple php script) and even system files, this could happens due to the php permissions. A way to avoid it is to set the open_basedir var in php.ini, yhis is very simple in a single host system, but in case of virtual hosts there would be a basebir per each host. Ho can I set dis basedir per each user/host? is there a way to let apache hereditate php privileges of the php file that has been requested E.G. /home/X_USER/index.php has as owner X_USER, when apache read the file index.php it checks its path and owner, simply I'm looking for a system set php basedir variable to that path.   My seven-years old expresses large interest in computers (well, who doesn't? :). Since I'm mostly program in MATLAB, I'm thinking why not to teach him MATLAB. We did a small project with him (he had to solve as many simple arithmetic problems as possible in a limited time) and he get pretty excited. I coded, he watched and then tested. He also likes to do create interesting graphics and simple animations. So, what's next? I would appreciate any ideas for interesting projects, games, graphics? What math concepts he has to understand to program in MATLAB? Or may be you would say it's too early and we should start with something like Logo, Scratch or Alice?

  I'm extremely frustrated trying to switch to MVC after a couple years of webforms development. Here's my extremely simple problem that I can't manage to solve: I have a list of States in a table called StateProvince. I have a DropDownList. I want the DropDownList to display all of the States in the StateProvince table and post the selected state back on HTTP PUT. This is what I'm doing: <%: Html.DropDownListFor(model = model.StateProvinceId, new SelectList(Model.StateProvinces, "StateProvinceId", "Name") )% I'm getting an Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Why? How can I make this work? Keep it simple, I know nothing about MVC.

• Separating two networks

  I have two routers, R1 and R2. R1 (a stock linksys router running dd-wrt) is connected to internet and is serving internet to a network of 5 devices/PCs running a DHCP server, with a network of 192.168.1.0/24. R1 also serves internet services to R2. R2 (a ubuntu server 12.04) gets internet from R1. R2 has 3 PCs attached to it, runs a DHCP server with a network of 172.22.22.0/24. My requirement is that the clients on both sides should not talk to each other at all – with the exception that R1 clients may access the R2 router through its IP of 192.168.1.x. At the moment, R2 clients are able to ping R1 clients, which is unacceptable, whereas R1 clients cannot ping R2 clients, which is OK. I believe iptables could be set up but I don't know how.

• set label value in vb.net

  Hi-- I'm usually a PHP guy but got stuck doing a project in vb.net. I have a query (sqldatasource) that returns a single value (the last update date). I want to use a label to say something like "Last updated: " < Label = (returned value) In PHP this would be simple. In vb.net, all I can find are endless badly written code behinds showing how you'd execute the query onLoad then bind it to the label. Is this really the only way to do this? It seems like a ridiculously simple problem to have such a long solution. I have used a datagrid control to just bind the query result directly, but it prints the column name as well as the date, so it's not ideal. Any ideas?

  Will be starting a small graphics design firm soon, with 20 employees. Therefore need software to manage the network. Have bought a bulk license of Windows 7. I have a spare computer which can act as a server if necessary, but its an ancient Dell machine (Pentium-III). If required I would purchase an extra machine, but would like to avoid unnecessary costs at start up. • Print server does not show up on router's attached devices

  Recently I bought a new more powerful wireless N router, DLink DIR 628. So I removed all connections from the previous router (Netgear WGT624) and connected them as they should be to the DLInk router. Everything works fine except for the print server. I have Hawking print server connected to HP Laserjet 6P parallel port printer. It works well with the Netgear router. But when I connect it to the DLInk router, it does not even show up in the LAN computers list. I am not sure what is going on. There is a utility called PSAdmin that can talk to the Hawking print server if I switch to Netgear router. With that utility, I can get the assigned IP address to the print server. But when switching to DLink router, even the PSAdmin fails to find the print server. I have been trying various things for last couple of days in vein. Please help.

  Hello, I'm on a Windows 7 Computer with an additional Win7 computer and an XP computer and I keep getting an error: 0x8007046a: "Not enough server storage is available to process this command" when I try to connect to a share on the Windows XP Computer. The Windows 7 Computers talk fine as far as HomeGroup, etc, but no dice with XP shares. Additionally this is in a workgroup. I have searched countless forums including TechNet, tried IRPStackSize, DhcpNodeType, and Uninstalling/Reinstalling File and Printer Sharing for M$ Networks. Any help is much appreciated.

• How to reduce compilation times with Boost Asio

  Boost.Asio is great library but it has one huge drawback -- extreamly slow compilation times. A simple implementation (really simple) of HTTP protocol (about 1k lines of code) requires about 13.5s to compile under GCC 4.4! I tryed to use PCH but it does not improve compilation times too much (about 1s. only). So are there any tutorials on how to make Boost.Asio compilation times faster? For example what headers should I exactly include for what class. I use for example: io_service, tcp::ip::sockets, tcp::ip::acceptor, deadline_timer, buffers and few functions like async_read, async_write. Any suggestions? P.S.: I do use pimpl whenever I can.

• Gradle java.util.logging.Logger output in unit tests

  Dear All: Sorry this is probably a very simple question. I am using gradle http://www.gradle.org/ for my development environment. It works quite well! I have written a simple unit test that uses HtmlUnit and my own package. For my own package, I use java.util.Logger. HtmlUnit seems to use commons logging: http://htmlunit.sourceforge.net/logging.html I would like to see console output of my logging messages from java.util.Logger However, it seems that even messages at the info level are not displayed in my Unit Test Results GUI (System.err link), although the HtmlUnit messages are all displayed. • Django: test failing on a view with @login_required

  Hi all, I'm trying to build a test for a view that's decorated with @login_required, since I failed to make it work, I did a simple test and still can't make it pass. The test fails in the response.status_code, returning 302 and the response instance is of a HttpResponseRedirect, is redirecting it as if not logged in. Any clue? I'm missing something? • WPF data grid - Column Header not aligned with data rows

  Hi, I am using Datagrid in WPF. This is a very simple and basic implementation. I not using any styles. I created a simple datagrid : <dg:DataGrid x:Name="dg" > </dg:DataGrid> and populated it with data as: dg.ItemsSource = " H E L L O W O R L D!".Split(); Grid gets properly populated but the columnheader of the grid is drawn with some offset. Due to this my data and header are mis aligned. I tried searching for this over net but I haven't found anything. This seems to be a straightforward implementation which is working for everyone except me :(. Can anyone please tell me what might be going wrong? I have tried using different data sets and appyling some style to test this. Thanks in advance.

• How do I upload huge files across the internet without using P2P?

  I work remotely and have 44GB of media files that I need to send back to my office. There are lots of free services out there that can handle up to 2GB, but I haven't seen talk of anything larger. We both have 50mbps+ connections, so I would rather not mail physical media (though, that is an option). Bittorrent is blocked at my corporate headquarters. We have an FTP server, but the per-user cap is 10GB. I use Citrix, but throughput is throttled to 3mbps. (44gb @ 50mbps = 4 to 5 hours... @3mbps = 5 or 6 days.) Any suggestions appreciated. • SQL Server won't perform regular expression validation on XML column

  Hi I have an XML column in my table which contains this xsd snippet: <xsd:element name="Postcode" minOccurs="0"> <xsd:simpleType> <xsd:restriction base="xsd:string"> <xsd:pattern value="^[0-9]{4}$" /> </xsd:restriction> </xsd:simpleType> </xsd:element> The regular expression should require a string containing 4 numerical digits. It validates perfectly in Visual Studio and is a correct regular expression. SQL Server, on the other hand, won't accept it. The error message I receive is: XML Validation: Invalid simple type value: '1234'. Location: / * : Donor[1]/*:Postcode[1]. I have an email address regex working fine, but can't get this simple numerical regex to work.

  I recently stumbled upon Code Contracts and have started using them in my C# projects. However, I also have a number of projects written in C++/CLI. For C# and VB, Code Contracts offer a handy configuration panel in the project properties dialog. For a C++/CLI project, there is no such panel. From the documentation, I got the impression that adding Code Contracts support to a C++/CLI project should be a simple matter of calling some external tools as part of the build process (namely ccrefgen.exe, cccheck.exe, and ccrewrite.exe). However, the number of command line options and restrictions concerning the call sequence have me somewhat intimidated. Can anybody point me to a simple way to run the Code Contracts tools as an automated part of the build process in Visual Studio?

• Adding links to full change forms for inline items in django admin?

  I have a standard admin change form for an object, with the usual StackedInline forms for a ForeignKey relationship. I would like to be able to link each inline item to its corresponding full-sized change form, as the inline item has inlined items of its own, and I can't nest them. I've tried everything from custom widgets to custom templates, and can't make anything work. So far, the "solutions" I've seen in the form of snippets just plain don't seem to work for inlines. I'm getting ready to try some DOM hacking with jQuery just to get it working and move on. I hope I must be missing something very simple, as this seems like such a simple task! Using Django 1.2.
