• How to pass associative Array parameter from javascript to ActiveX object?

  I'd like to pass an associative array (or simply an object with property names & values) to my ActiveXObject. I can't find anyone who has successfully and simply passed complex data from javascript to an ActiveX object. My ActiveX object is being loaded in IE, and it's mine so I can change the method signature & code to whatever will work. I also have control over the structure of the javascript. Without a simple way of doing this I'm thinking of url-encoding the data and sending it as a string. But that does seem a little silly if it's possible just to pass an object. The ActiveX object is coded in C# if that makes any difference...

  As I see it most applications have a requirement for some form of validation and a number of fantastic free offerings are available (I.E., Fluent Validation, Validation Block, Spring, Castle Windsor, etc). My question is why does the .NET Framework not include any inbuilt validation libraries? I am aware the .NET Framework allows a developer the ability to build their own validation libraries/methods/etc. and anything provided as part of the .NET Framework would not always meet everyone’s needs. But surely something could have been included? ASP.NET has a minimal set of validators but these have not really been extended since .NET 2.0 was released.

• How to load an RSA key from binary data to an RSA structure using the OpenSSL C Library?

  Currently I have my private key saved in a file, private.key, and I use the following function to load it: RSA *r = PEM_read_RSAPrivateKey("private.key", NULL, NULL, NULL); This works perfectly but I'm not happy with the file-based format; I want to save my key in pure binary form (ie, no base64 or similar) in a char* variable and load/save the key from/to it. This way I have much more freedom: I'll be able to store the key directly into the application const char key[] { 0x01, 0x02, ... };, send it over a network socket, etc. Unfortunately though I haven't found a way to do that. The only way to save and load a key I know of reads/saves it to a file directly.

• Chrome SSL Security Issue under Windows systems?

  The Fortify.net website allows you to check what SSL Encryption key is used by your browser. I gave it a try with the browsers I've on my machine and these are the results Fedora 9 Firefox 3.0.8 = AES cipher, 256-bit key Chrome 4.0.249.30 = AES cipher, 256-bit key Windows XP SP3 IE 6.0.2x = RC4 cipher, 128-bit key Firefox = AES cipher, 256-bit key Chrome 4.1.249.1042 (42199) = RC4 cipher, 128-bit key .... WHAT!!?!! Chrome is using RC4 128-bit (as IE6 does) that is well known as been very weak! Chrome under Unix works fine... I'm wondering how is this possible? Do you have this issue or is there a way to change the default key to be AES 256bit? I'm using Chrome as the main browser under Windows and I'm really considering to switch back to Firefox

• Set Focus After Last Character in Text Box

  I have 3 text boxes for a phone number. As the user types, it automatically moves from one textbox to the next. When the user presses backspace, I can move focus to the previous text box. The problem is that in IE, focus is set to the beginning of the text box. • Automated URL checking from a MySQL table

  Okay, I have a list of URLs in a MySQL table. I want the script to automatically check each link in the table for 404, and afterward I want it to store whether the URL was 404'd or not, as well as store a time for last checked. Is this even possible to do automatically, even if no one runs the script? ie, no one visits the page for a few days, but even with no one visiting the page, it automatically ran the test. If its possible, how could I go about making a button to do this?

  This code for parsing my xml and appending via jquery seems to work great in every browser but Chrome (Mac only, the windows version of chrome works fine) and explorer. I'm not aware of any glaring issues in the code so I thought some fresh eyes might help. • Changing default image viewer in registry

  I want my application to change the program which should be launched if ie. a .jpg (in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT) is launched. The *.jpg and *.jpeg items in the registry references the jpegfile-class, but when I change the value of the default application to open the file, the old default is still launched, but not my program. (I set the value in jpegfile/shell/open/command/ to the path of my application.) In firefox, the right-click menu etc the choice of default viewer will show that my application should be launched, but it isn't.

  I have a web page which display a list of items in a HTML table. Above the list is a form which allows the user to add a new item to the list via AJAX (using Ajax.BeginForm). When the data is posted to the controller via AJAX I add the new item to the database backend and generate a new table row via a Partial View which then gets appended to the exisiting table. When the form to add new items however contains errors, I want to render the form back to the web browser and display that. So here is the question: Is it possible to specify the UpdateTargetId from within the controller? At the moment whatever View I return from the controller gets inserted in the same target, but I would like to update a different target (ie. different UpdateTargetId) based on whatever view was returned from the controller. Any help would be appreciated...

• What Database to distribute as part of a C# app backend

  I am planning on writing and commercialising a C# app which will store data in an underlying database I use MySQL on my environment for my own development and this is what I would have used to write the application for myself (no need to use FK - MyISAM engine would be fine). I am concerned about how easy it will be to distribute the app together with the database engine. Would using MySQL allow me for easy packaging of the app for a "one-click" install on the client side? (ie I do not want them to have to install MySQL by themselves) and also is it feasible from a licensing point of view? Are there other Database systems which would make the process more straight-forward

• Keypress event on inserted span (jQuery)

  Hi, I've been researching for a long time, and haven't found a possible solution. The problem I have is that I'm trying to attach an event handler to an span element just inserted. So basically the problem is, when a user performs a particular action that I set (clicking a button by example) I call this function: function AppendSpan() { $('#mydiv').append('<span id="someid" contenteditable="true">Some TExt</span>'); //Then I want to handle the keypress event on the inserted span $('#someid').keypress(function(event){//Do something here}); } The problem is that the keypress event is never triggered on the inserted span, I tried with the click event and it works fine, but not the keypress or keydown,keyup events. I also tried with $('span').live("keypress",function(event){//Do something}); but didn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I need this to work only in FF, so no support for IE required.

  Based on the properties of the keydown event I would like to ascertain what the current charCode are? Example. For the keydown event when the NumPad0, D0, and Colon key is pressed I would like to know what the associated charcode is. Currently I have a map that contains the charcode associated with that keyCode or use the current if charCode is not specified. keyCode = { Colon: 186, D0: 48, NumPad0: 96, }; charCodes = { 186: 59, 96: 48, }; shiftCharCodes = { 186: 58, 48: 41 }; Also in certain cases the keyCodes are different accross browsers? Example. The keydown event has different keyCode values across browsers. I want to allow the user to login and then I have embedded an iframe into domain B.com which attempts to grab the cookie from A.com to allow the user to be continued to be signed in. I can't seem to get this working in IE ? A new session gets set instead and the cookie is never retrieved. I have set a P3P policy ? Any ideas what I am doing wrong.

  Hi, I wrote Powershell script to copy a worksheet from a workbook A to another workbook B. The worksheet contains define names for ranges within that sheet. Originally, the defined names are global in workbook A, ie. can be referenced from any worksheets within workbook A. But now, after copy to worksheet B, the defined names are limited to that worksheet only. How to I programmatically (via Powershell script preferably) make all those named range global i.e. can be referenced from all worksheets within workbook B. • After MS Access Conversion 97 --> 2002 I get 'Enter Parameter Value' when exitting a form.

  Hi, So when I exit a form from my newly converted .mdb it asks to Enter Parameter Value. It goes through (ie if i enter a value, it asks for another) the values required for a query that is run on a List Box on the page. The query has not been changed during the conversion. The values it is getting for the query are from text boxes on the same form. There are a few Requeries in the form (run from VB) so I imagine that it is rerunning again on Exit (although this isnt explicit in the form properties). I'm not quite sure how to go about solving this. Your help would be great. Thanks

• Twitter @anywhere API problems in firefox only

  I've implemented a simple example of the Twitter @anywhere api to display user hovercards. The example works great in Internet Explorer and Chrome. However, whenever I the page loads in Firefox I receive the following message in an alert window: To set up @anywhere, please provide a client ID Surely if the results are correct in Chrome and IE then everything must be setup correctly? • dynamically updating a datagrid from a XML file c# 3.5

  I have a datagrid that is populated via XML file when the form loads. Everything is working great but I would like the datagrid to update dynamically when a new order is received (Separate class receives a data stream and updates the file). Im looking for suggestions on how this should be done. (ie using a timer update every second, or monitor the file using FileSystemWatcher.. etc) Since where here, I might as well mention that in order to update the datagrid Im clearing the whole data set and Re-reading the file using: DataSet.Clear(); DataSet.ReadXml("file.xml"); dataGridView1.DataSource = DataSet; if this is not the proper approach, please offer any alternate suggestions.

But I just can't disable the filter for the the links. How do I do this??

• Multiple Payment options within the same order

  I have a requirement to be able to accept different forms of payment within the same order - ie not just the usual credit card or paypal for the whole thing, but perhaps paypal for one item, cheque for another. I know this sounds quite crazy, but there is a good business reason for the requirement so I can't just push back. The best way I can think of implementing it at the moment is to have kind of a hub page, where you can "launch off" into multiple flows for each of the payments by opening new windows. I can't figure out a way of doing this in a linear flow as for example you can't guarantee that a user will come back from paypal, so you'd then lose the user completely. Is there a neater way of doing this that anyone can think of, or can anyone point me to an example of a site that does somethign similar for inspiration?

  Recently I have purchased a notebook that cames with Windows Home Basic (that don't have with ASP.Net/IIS. I thought in upgrade the Windows version to one with ASP.Net/IIS, but I thought in another possibility: I have an Hard Disk Case with a 360Gb HD. I thought in create a virtual machine with Windows Ultimate (installing too ASP.Net, IIS and Visual Studio 2008) in this HD Case, then I can access my "development enviroment" in any computer that I will work on (my desktop machine and my notebook). But I was worried about the performance. I don't have experience working in Virtual Machines (I use it just to quick compatibility tests)... Are you using Virtual Machine as your primary development enviroment? What your finds? ==================== Thanks for your answers! It really did help me! I would like to know too about portability ie.: the virtual machine that I created in my laptop will work in the desktop? I will need re-activate Windows?

  I receive error messages when attempting to encode files in Expression Encoder when the file width or height is not a multiple of four, or is smaller than 64. I have been able to find very little in the documentation / web searches on this, and nothing that explains what settings may cause / alleviate these limitations. I assume it has something to do with the underlying data type. Error Message: Invalid Width Specified. The value must be an integer between 64 - and 4096 and be a multiple of 4. Can anyone provide further details on why / what settings can be manipulated to change this behavior: I.E. quality, compression etc.
