  Today i deleted my home directory (in wrong action) with: sudo rm -rf * And when i use extundelete i get this message: root@ubuntu:~# sudo extundelete --restore-directory /home/hamed/ /dev/sda2WARNING: Extended attributes are not restored. Loading filesystem metadata ... 746 groups loaded. Loading journal descriptors ... 29931 descriptors loaded. Searching for recoverable inodes in directory /home/hamed/ ... 498 recoverable inodes found. Looking through the directory structure for deleted files ... 498 recoverable inodes still lost. No files were undeleted. why it can't recover? Anyone can help me to return my Desktop, Documents and etc? I have ubuntu 14.04.

• Trying to recover deleted Ubuntu partition

  I made a mistake in logging into my 200 GB Ubuntu partition. I could not access Grub after that. Using a live CD I then ran Boot_Repair and apparently deleted the partition, I guess because I ran it from my 70 GB Windows partition. I can send the results of boot_info before that and of Boot_Repair. Then I ran TestDisk, which apparently found only dev/sda/ -320GB / 298 / GiB - WDC - WD3200BEVT-22A23T0 (Was there any more I could have done with TestDisk? I looked at the TestDisk_Step_By_Step example and found no way forward given that no other partitions turned up) I have run gpart and found this: /sda1 - 15 GB /sda2 - system reserved /sda3 - 70.15 GB /sda4 - extended 212.84 unallocated - 209.10 /sda5 - unknown 3.74 . I have been told I can recover the partition using gparted's Rescue start end command, but I don't know what to enter for start and end. [--EDIT: TestDisk Deeper Search stated that "the following partitions can't be recovered" and listed a 220-GB Linux partition 6 times. Then it stated that "The current number of heads per cylinder is 255 but the correct value may be 128" and I could try to change it in the Geometry menu (because apparently these are overlapping partitions) So should I do that?--]

  I have an existing Joomla 1.5 site and am intending to wipe it and install a brand new 2.5 site. I will pick new plugins, template etc but would like to transfer the basic text / images of the articles on the 1.5 site to the new site. I am less concerned with categories and tags of those old articles, as they'll probably go in an 'old' category. I have several file and database backups of the 1.5 site. Has anyone done anything similar ? Are the two article db schemas similar enough to just transfer the data ?

  Hi, My Ubuntu 10.10 just crashed, probably due to hardware error (and in the end I was getting errors like Unknown filesystem ..... grub> .., and it went to the GRUB console before I could take any other action). I reinstalled the same version from a USB stick. I had Ubuntu installed with the ext4 file system and I also have the same filesystem in the same hard disk on a different drive. When I try to access my previous filesystem, I get errors: Error mounting: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda6, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so I had some important files in the previous volume ; I don't know how to retrieve them. And what are the chances that I would get the same outcome (hardware error)? Please help me!

PS - Why is "string" type considered as a primitive type in SNOBOL4 and not in Java ?

  It's no secret that large files offered up for download often are coupled with their MD5 or SHA-1 hash so that after you download you can verify the file's integrity. Are these still the best algorithms to use for this? Obviously these are very popular hashes that potential downloaders would have easy access to. Ignoring that factor, what hashes have the best properties for being used for this? For example, bcrypt would be horrible for this. It's designed to be slow. That would suck to use on your 7.4 GB dual layer OS ISO you just downloaded when a 12 letter password might take up to a second with the right parameters.

  Is it possible to transfer Google Authorship from one account to another? Scenario: I have user A who is a legitimate Google Author in my WordPress site. When I search the 'keyword' in Google, his name and photo will show up in the search result. One day A left the company, so we don't want to use his name again as an author, and transfer it to another person which is B. Technically speaking, I can just alter the display name and Google+ Profile URL of A to B. And then I probably can notify Google of the changes happening. But what will happen then? Bonus constraint 1: For each type of object, the values of some keys change more often than others. Bonus constraint 2: Memory usage on the server side is relatively expensive.

• How can I pin point a USB file transfer bottleneck in Unix?

  I'm experiencing very slow data transfer speeds over USB 2.0 on my nix box and was wondering how I can pin-point the cause of the problem. I've looked into iotop and top but the cpu and mem figures look normal (compared to guides I have checked). The box which is affected is Ubuntu 12.04 32bit Server running on an Asus EEE 701 2G model and I am transferring from the OS over USB 2.0 to an external HDD (which transfers at 30MB/s+ on Windows 7 on other machine). I get rsync write speeds of 1MB/s from OS to USB HDD which seems ridiculously slow. These speeds are consistent with other USB HDDs and sticks.

• Using replacement to get possible outcomes to then search through HUGE amount of data

  I have a database table holding 40 million records (table A). Each record has a string a user can search for. I also have a table with a list of character replacements (table B) i.e. i = Y, I = 1 etc. I need to be able to take the string a user is searching for, iterate through each letter and create an array of every possible outcome (the users string, then each outcome with alternative letters used). I need to check for alternatives on both lower and uppercase letters in the word A search string can be no longer than 10 characters long. I'm using PHP and a MySQL database. Does anyone have any thoughts / articles / guidance on doing this in an efficient way?

• Is A Web App Feasible For A Heavy Use Data Entry System?

  Looking for opinions on this, we're working on a project that is essentially a data entry system for a production line. Heavy data input by users who normally work in Excel or other thick client data systems. We've been told (as a consequence) that we have to develop this as a thick client using .NET. Our argument was to develop as a web app, as it resolves a lot of issues and would be easier to write and maintain. Their argument against the web is that (supposedly) the web is not ready yet for a heavy duty data entry system, and that the web in a browser does not offer the speed, responsiveness, and fluid experience for the end-user that a thick client can (citing things such as drag and drop, rapid auto-entry and data navigation, etc.) Personally, I think that with good form design and JQuery/AJAX, a web app could do everything a thick client does just as well, and they just don't know what they're talking about. The irony is that a thick client has to go to a lot more effort to manage the deployment and connectivity back to the central data server than a web app would need to do, so in terms of speed I would expect a web app to be faster. What are the thoughts of those out there? Are there any technologies currently in production use that modern data entry systems are being developed as web apps in? Appreciate any feedback.   I am having a problem retreiving data out of an object passed back from PHP. I've tried many different ways to access this data and none work. In Firebug I see the following... (it looks nicer in Firebug) - I tried to make this look as close to Firebug as possible results Object { data="{"formName":"form3","formData":"data goes here"}", phpLiveDebug="<...s: 198.91.215.227"} data "{"formName":"form3","formData":"data goes here"}" phpLiveDebug "<...s: 198.91.215.227" I can access phpLiveDebug no problem, but the data portion is an object. I have tried the following... success: function(results) { //$("#formName").val(results.data.formName); //$("#formName").val(results.data[0].formName); //$("#formName").val(results.data[0]); //$("#formName").val(results.data[1]); //$("#formName").val(results.data[0]["formName"]); var tmp = results.data[formName]; alert("!" + tmp + "!"); $("#formName").val(tmp); $("#jqueryPHPDebug").val(results.phpLiveDebug); } This line works in the example above... $("#jqueryPHPDebug").val(results.phpLiveDebug); but... I can't figure out how to get at the data inside the results.data portion... as you can see above, I have been trying different things and more not even listed there. I was really hoping this line would work :) var tmp = results.data[formName]; But it doesn't. So, after many days of reading, tinkering, my solution was to re-write it to return data similar to the phpLiveDebug but then I thought... it's gotta be something simple I'm overlooking... Thank you for your time. Please try and explain why my logic (my horrible attempts at trying to figure out the proper method) above is wrong if you can?

• Associating an Object with other Objects and Properties of those Objects

  I am looking for some help with designing some functionality in my application. I already have something similar designed but this problem is a little different. Background: In my application we have different Modules. Data in each module can be associated to other modules. Each Module is represented by an Object in our application. Module 1 can be associated with Module 2 and Module 3. Currently I use a factory to provide the proper DAO for getting and saving this data. It looks something like this: class Module1Factory { public static Module1BridgeDAO createModule1BridgeDAO(int moduleid) { switch (moduleId) { case Module.Module2Id: return new Module1_Module2DAO(); case Module.Module3Id: return new Module1_Module3DAO(); default: return null; } } } Module1_Module2 and Module1_Module3 implement the same BridgeModule interface. In the database I have a Table for every module (Module1, Module2, Module3). I also have a bridge table for each module (they are many to many) Module1_Module2, Module1_Module3 etc. The DAO basically handles all code needed to manage the association and retrieve its own instance data for the calling module. Now when we add new modules that associate with Module1 we simply implement the ModuleBridge interface and provide the common functionality. New Development We are adding a new module that will have the ability to be associated with other Modules as well as specific properties of that module. The module is basically providing the user the ability to add their custom forms to our other modules. That way they can collect additional information along with what we provide. I want to start associating my Form module with other modules and their properties. Ie if Module1 has a property Category, I want to associate an instance From data with that property. There are many Forms. If a users creates an instance of Module2, they may always want to also have certain form(s) attached to that Module2 instance. If they create an instance of Module2 and select Category 1, then I may want additional Form(s) created. I prototyped something like this: Form FormLayout (contains the labels and gui controls) FormModule (associates a form with all instances of a module) Form Instance (create an instance of a form to be filled out) As I thought about it I was thinking about making a new FormModule table/class/dao for each Module and Property that I add. So I might have: FormModule1 FormModule1Property1 FormModule1Property2 FormModule1Property3 FormModule1Property4 FormModule2 FormModule3 FormModule3Property1 Then as I did previously, I would use a factory to get the proper DAO for dealing with all of these. I would hand it an array of ids representing different modules and properties and it would return all of the DAOs that I need to call getForms(). Which in turn would return all of the forms for that particular bridge. Some points This will be for a new module so I dont need to expand on the factory code I provided. I just wanted to show an example of what I have done in the past. The new module can be associated with: Other Modules (ie globally for any instance of that module data), Other module properties (ie only if the Module instance has a certian value in one of its properties) I want to make it easy for developers to add associations with other modules and properties easily Can any one suggest any design patterns or strategy's for achieving this?   Hello Currently I have an entity named "Events" in a CoreData app. "Events" has one string property named "eventName". In the -(void)viewDidLoad I am trying to Fetch all the "Events" objects and load their "eventName" by alphabetical order into a UIPickerView. The ultimate end goal is through the use of a textField, buttons and the pickerView being add new objects in and remove unwanted objects out. Basically turning the UIPickerView into a UITableView. Currently I am able to save objects to the CoreData store, but am not able to pull them/their properties out into the UIPickerView. • Memory efficient way of inserting an array of objects with Core Data

  I'm working on a piece of code for an iPhone application that fetches a bunch of data from a server and builds objects from it on the client. It ends up creating roughly 40,000 objects. They aren't displayed to the user, I just need to create instances of NSManagedObject and store them to persistent storage. Am I wrong in thinking that the only way to do this is to create a single object, then save the context? is it best to create the objects all at once, then somehow save them to the context after they're created and stored in some set or array? If so, can one show some example code for how this is done or point me in the direction to code where this is done? The objects themselves are relatively straight forward models with string or integer attributes and don't contain any complex relationships.

  Hi guys, I am new to ninject, I am wondering how I can run custom initizlisation code when constructing the injected objects? ie. I have a Sword class which implements IWeapon, but I want to pass an hit point value to the Sword class constructor, how do I achieve that? Do I need to write my own provider? A minor question, IKernel kernel = new StandardKernel(new Module1(), new Module2(), ...); what is the actual use of having multiple modules in Kernel?   Hi all, so this is the scenario: I have a base class for all login-controlled pages: public class SessionControlledPage : Page { protected virtual void Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) { Response.AddHeader("Refresh", Convert.ToString(Session.Timeout * 60 + 5)); if (Session.IsNewSession) { Response.Redirect("~/login.aspx"); } } } And a regularpage.aspx page that inherints from the base class: public partial class RegularPage : SessionControlledPage { override protected void Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) { base.Page_Load(sender, e); Server.Transfer("~/otherpage.aspx"); } } Now let's say the original URL was http://localhost/regularpage.aspx and that Session.Timeout = 5. The problem appears when the refresh happens after the transfer takes place. I'm getting a 404 Not Found error and the URL changes for http://localhost/305. Notice that 5 * 60 + 5 = 305. Do you know why is this happening? got a solution? PD: I use transfer because I need to access some properties of regularpage.aspx on otherpage.aspx, maybe you could provide another solution for this too.

  Hi, I tried to save data and merge with CoreData and multi-thread for iPhone app. But I can't get managed objects in the main thread after merging. I wrote code just like this: [managedObjectContext performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(mergeChangesFromContextDidSaveNotification:) withObject:notification waitUntilDone:YES]; [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(didMerged:) withObject:objectIds waitUntilDone:YES]; So I tried to pass objectIds to get NSManagedObject instances in the main thread which were generated in another thread. At first I tried "objectWithId" method but it generated fault objects. Then I tried "existingObjectWithID" method but it generated objects partly and others were nil with following Error: [Error] Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=133000 "Operation could not be completed. (Cocoa error 133000.)" What is wrong? Is there any way how to retrieve all objects by objectIds after merging in another thread? Thank you.
