  • C# Help: Adding a complexType to the main XmlSchema

    - by G33kKahuna
    I need to create program that creates a XML schema like below using System.Xml.XmlSchema namespace I'm using the XmlSchemaComplexType to MyString and MyInteger but I can't seem to find a way to set the extension to base string and int respectively. Any guidance is much appreciated ... thanks <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <xs:schema elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <xs:complexType name="MyString"> <xs:simpleContent> <xs:extension base="xs:string"> <xs:attribute name="modified" type="xs:boolean" /> </xs:extension> </xs:simpleContent> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="MyInteger"> <xs:simpleContent> <xs:extension base="xs:int"> <xs:attribute name="modified" type="xs:boolean" /> </xs:extension> </xs:simpleContent> </xs:complexType> <xs:element name="data"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="row"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="order_id" type="MyInteger" /> <xs:element name="order_status" type="MyString" /> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:schema>

  • Why would a WebService return nulls when the actual service returns data?

    - by Jerry
I have a webservice (out of my control) that I have to talk to. I also have a packet-sniffer on the line, and (SURPRISE!!!) the developers of the webservice aren't lying. They are actually sending back all of the data that I requested. But the web-service code that is auto-generated from the WSDL file is giving me "null" as a value. I used their WSDL file to generate my Web Reference. I checked my data types with the datatypes that the WSDL file has declared. And I used the code as listed below to perform the calls: DT_MaterialMaster_LookupRequest req = new DT_MaterialMaster_LookupRequest(); req.MaterialNumber = "101*"; req.DocumentNo = ""; req.Description = "Pipe*"; req.Plant = "0000"; MI_MaterialMaster_Lookup_OBService srv = new MI_MaterialMaster_Lookup_OBService(); DT_MaterialMaster_Response resp = srv.MI_MaterialMaster_Lookup_OB(new DT_MaterialMaster_LookupRequest[] { req }); // Note that the response here is ALWAYS null!! Console.WriteLine(resp.Status); The resp object is an actual object. It was generated properly. However, the Status and MaterialData fields are always null. When I call the web service, I've placed a packet-sniffer on the line, and I can see that I've sent the following (linebreaks and indentions for my own sanity): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <soap:Envelope xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <soap:Body> <MT_MaterialMaster_Lookup xmlns="http://MyCompany.com/SomeCompany/mm/MaterialMasterSearch"> <Request xmlns=""> <MaterialNumber>101*</MaterialNumber> <Description>Pipe*</Description> <DocumentNo /> <Plant>0000</Plant> </Request> </MT_MaterialMaster_Lookup> </soap:Body> </soap:Envelope> The response that they send back SEEMS to be a valid response (linebreaks and indentions for my own sanity): <SOAP:Envelope xmlns:SOAP='http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/'> <SOAP:Header /> <SOAP:Body> <n0:MT_MaterialMaster_Response xmlns:n0='http://MyCompany.com/SomeCompany/mm/MaterialMasterSearch' xmlns:prx='urn:SomeCompany.com:proxy:BRD:/1SAI/TAS4FE14A2DE960D61219AE:701:2009/02/10'> <Response> <Status>No Rows Found</Status> <MaterialData /> </Response> </n0:MT_MaterialMaster_Response> </SOAP:Body> </SOAP:Envelope> The status shows that it actually received data... but the resp.Status and resp.MaterialData fields are always null. What have I done wrong? • Why my test xml is failing with very simple XSD Schema?

    - by JSteve
    Hi all, I am a bit novice in xml schema. I would be grateful if somebody help me out to understand why my xml is not being validated with the schema: Here is my Schema: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" targetNamespace="http://www.example.org/testSchema" xmlns="http://www.example.org/testSchema"> <xs:element name="Employee"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="Name"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="FirstName" /> <xs:element name="LastName" /> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:schema> Here is my test xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <Employee xmlns="http://www.example.org/testSchema"> <Name> <FirstName>John</FirstName> <LastName>Smith</LastName> </Name> </Employee> I am getting following error by Eclipse xml editor/validator: cvc-complex-type.2.4.a: Invalid content was found starting with element 'Name'. One of '{Name}' is expected. I could not understand what is wrong with this schema or my xml.

  • Validate XSD with XML .

    - by munish
I want to know how to validate XML with XSD . XML is not of an element type but a complex type . Since validator class's validate method compare only element type. So basically I want to valide XSD's complex type with an XML. e.g. Basic XSD below xs:element name="Customer"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="Dob" type="xs:date" /> <xs:element name="Address"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="Line1" type="xs:string" /> <xs:element name="Line2" type="xs:string" /> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> We can assume we have multiple complex type in the Customer element. MY XML is <Address> <Line1>34 thingy street, someplace</Line1> <Line2>sometown, w1w8uu </Line2> </Address> How I validate my XML with XSD. Kindly post your suggestions in java

  • Wireshark Dissector: How to Identify Missing UDP Frames?

    - by John Dibling
How do you identify missing UDP frames in a custom Wireshark dissector? I have written a custom dissector for the CQS feed (reference page). One of our servers gaps when receiving this feed. According to Wireshark, some UDP frames are never received. I know that the frames were sent because all of our other servers are gap-free. A CQS frame consists of multiple messages, each having its own sequence number. My custom dissector provides the following data to Wireshark: cqs.frame_gaps - the number of gaps within a UDP frame (always zero) cqs.frame_first_seq - the first sequence number in a UDP frame cqs.frame_expected_seq - the first sequence number expected in the next UDP frame cqs.frame_msg_count - the number of messages in this UDP frame And I am displaying each of these values in custom columns, as shown in this screenshot: I tried adding code to my dissector that simply saves the last-processed sequence number (as a local static), and flags gaps when the dissector processes a frame where current_sequence != (previous_sequence + 1). This did not work because the dissector can be called in random-access order, depending on where you click in the GUI. So you could process frame 10, then frame 15, then frame 11, etc. Is there any way for my dissector to know if the frame that came before it (or the frame that follows) is missing? The dissector is written in C. (See also a companion post on serverfault.com)

  • prevent schemagen from adding the super-class to the schema?

    - by shay
    Hi, how do i prevent schemagen from adding the super-class to the schema? I have tried using XMLTransient on the super-class, and on its fields but they still show up in the schema . for example : @XmlTransient public class Asset { @XmlTransient public Long ID; } public class Movie extends Asset { } creates this schema : <xs:complexType name="asset"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="ID" type="xs:long" minOccurs="0"/> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="movie"> <xs:complexContent> <xs:extension base="asset"> <xs:sequence/> </xs:extension> </xs:complexContent> </xs:complexType> the schema that i would like to see is : <xs:complexType name="movie"> <xs:complexContent> <xs:sequence/> </xs:extension> </xs:complexContent> </xs:complexType>

  • django + south + python: strange behavior when using a text string received as a parameter in a func

    - by carlosescri
Hello, this is my first question. I'm trying to execute a SQL query in django (south migration): from django.db import connection # ... class Migration(SchemaMigration): # ... def transform_id_to_pk(self, table): try: db.delete_primary_key(table) except: pass finally: cursor = connection.cursor() # This does not work cursor.execute('SELECT MAX("id") FROM "%s"', [table]) # I don't know if this works. try: minvalue = cursor.fetchone()[0] except: minvalue = 1 seq_name = table + '_id_seq' db.execute('CREATE SEQUENCE "%s" START WITH %s OWNED BY "%s"."id"', [seq_name, minvalue, table]) db.execute('ALTER TABLE "%s" ALTER COLUMN id SET DEFAULT nextval("%s")', [table, seq_name + '::regclass']) db.create_primary_key(table, ['id']) # ... I use this function like this: self.transform_id_to_pk('my_table_name') So it should: Find the biggest existent ID or 0 (it crashes) Create a sequence name Create the sequence Update the ID field to use sequence Update the ID as PK But it crashes and the error says: File "../apps/accounting/migrations/0003_setup_tables.py", line 45, in forwards self.delegation_table_setup(orm) File "../apps/accounting/migrations/0003_setup_tables.py", line 478, in delegation_table_setup self.transform_id_to_pk('accounting_delegation') File "../apps/accounting/migrations/0003_setup_tables.py", line 20, in transform_id_to_pk cursor.execute(u'SELECT MAX("id") FROM "%s"', [table.encode('utf-8')]) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/db/backends/util.py", line 19, in execute return self.cursor.execute(sql, params) psycopg2.ProgrammingError: relation "E'accounting_delegation'" does not exist LINE 1: SELECT MAX("id") FROM "E'accounting_delegation'" ^ I have shortened the file paths for convenience. What does that "E'accounting_delegation'" mean? How could I get rid of it? Thank you! Carlos.

  • How can I add SOAP Headers to a WSDL generated Borland C++ Builder 6 application.

    - by MJG
Using a WSDL that requires a SOAP HEADER for Authentication (fragment below) code that gets generated when creating a web service client via the "WSDL Importer" has no concept of the Authentication Headers and there are no examples in BCB6 C++ Examples/WebServices directories that show how, and nothing on Web that I can find. • Defining multiple possibilities for the same element

    - by moggi
Hello, is it possible in XML Schema to define the same element with several different definitions depending on one attribute. As Example: <xsd:element name="Element"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:attribute name="type" fixed="type1"/> <xsd:seqeuence> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> <xsd:element name="Element"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:attribute name="type" fixed="type2"/> <xsd:attribute name="value" type="xsd:integer"/> <xsd:seqeuence> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> <xsd:element name="RootElement"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:element ref="Element"/> </xsd:sequence> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> Or is there any other way to solve this problem. It is important that both definitions are named "Element", because I have an application needing that both elements are named the same way. But there is a second application that needs the additional information for type2.

  • How to read an xs:any response using CXF Generated Client?

Hi, When consuming a webserice with CXF 2.1.4 (the generated client) I am having problem getting the response based on the following XSD snippet in the WSDL. CXF Generates a List representing it, but when I execute the service, the response comes null. • More Fun With Math

    - by PointsToShare
More Fun with Math   The runaway student – three different ways of solving one problem Here is a problem I read in a Russian site: A student is running away. He is moving at 1 mph. Pursuing him are a lion, a tiger and his math teacher. The lion is 40 miles behind and moving at 6 mph. The tiger is 28 miles behind and moving at 4 mph. His math teacher is 30 miles behind and moving at 5 mph. Who will catch him first? Analysis Obviously we have a set of three problems. They are all basically the same, but the details are different. The problems are of the same class. Here is a little excursion into computer science. One of the things we strive to do is to create solutions for classes of problems rather than individual problems. In your daily routine, you call it re-usability. Not all classes of problems have such solutions. If a class has a general (re-usable) solution, it is called computable. Otherwise it is unsolvable. Within unsolvable classes, we may still solve individual (some but not all) problems, albeit with different approaches to each. Luckily the vast majority of our daily problems are computable, and the 3 problems of our runaway student belong to a computable class. So, let’s solve for the catch-up time by the math teacher, after all she is the most frightening. She might even make the poor runaway solve this very problem – perish the thought! Method 1 – numerical analysis. At 30 miles and 5 mph, it’ll take her 6 hours to come to where the student was to begin with. But by then the student has advanced by 6 miles. 6 miles require 6/5 hours, but by then the student advanced by another 6/5 of a mile as well. And so on and so forth. So what are we to do? One way is to write code and iterate it until we have solved it. But this is an infinite process so we’ll end up with an infinite loop. So what to do? We’ll use the principles of numerical analysis. Any calculator – your computer included – has a limited number of digits. A double floating point number is good for about 14 digits. Nothing can be computed at a greater accuracy than that. This means that we will not iterate ad infinidum, but rather to the point where 2 consecutive iterations yield the same result. When we do financial computations, we don’t even have to go that far. We stop at the 10th of a penny.  It behooves us here to stop at a 10th of a second (100 milliseconds) and this will how we will avoid an infinite loop. Interestingly this alludes to the Zeno paradoxes of motion – in particular “Achilles and the Tortoise”. Zeno says exactly the same. To catch the tortoise, Achilles must always first come to where the tortoise was, but the tortoise keeps moving – hence Achilles will never catch the tortoise and our math teacher (or lion, or tiger) will never catch the student, or the policeman the thief. Here is my resolution to the paradox. The distance and time in each step are smaller and smaller, so the student will be caught. The only thing that is infinite is the iterative solution. The race is a convergent geometric process so the steps are diminishing, but each step in the solution takes the same amount of effort and time so with an infinite number of steps, we’ll spend an eternity solving it.  This BTW is an original thought that I have never seen before. But I digress. Let’s simply write the code to solve the problem. To make sure that it runs everywhere, I’ll do it in JavaScript. function LongCatchUpTime(D, PV, FV) // D is Distance; PV is Pursuers Velocity; FV is Fugitive’ Velocity {     var t = 0;     var T = 0;     var d = parseFloat(D);     var pv = parseFloat (PV);     var fv = parseFloat (FV);     t = d / pv;     while (t > 0.000001) //a 10th of a second is 1/36,000 of an hour, I used 1/100,000     {         T = T + t;         d = t * fv;         t = d / pv;     }     return T;     } By and large, the higher the Pursuer’s velocity relative to the fugitive, the faster the calculation. Solving this with the 10th of a second limit yields: 7.499999232000001 Method 2 – Geometric Series. Each step in the iteration above is smaller than the next. As you saw, we stopped iterating when the last step was small enough, small enough not to really matter.  When we have a sequence of numbers in which the ratio of each number to its predecessor is fixed we call the sequence geometric. When we are looking at the sum of sequence, we call the sequence of sums series.  Now let’s look at our student and teacher. The teacher runs 5 times faster than the student, so with each iteration the distance between them shrinks to a fifth of what it was before. This is a fixed ratio so we deal with a geometric series.  We normally designate this ratio as q and when q is less than 1 (0 < q < 1) the sum of  + … +  is  – 1) / (q – 1). When q is less than 1, it is easier to use ) / (1 - q). Now, the steps are 6 hours then 6/5 hours then 6/5*5 and so on, so q = 1/5. And the whole series is multiplied by 6. Also because q is less than 1 , 1/  diminishes to 0. So the sum is just  / (1 - q). or 1/ (1 – 1/5) = 1 / (4/5) = 5/4. This times 6 yields 7.5 hours. We can now continue with some algebra and take it back to a simpler formula. This is arduous and I am not going to do it here. Instead let’s do some simpler algebra. Method 3 – Simple Algebra. If the time to capture the fugitive is T and the fugitive travels at 1 mph, then by the time the pursuer catches him he travelled additional T miles. Time is distance divided by speed, so…. (D + T)/V = T  thus D + T = VT  and D = VT – T = (V – 1)T  and T = D/(V – 1) This “strangely” coincides with the solution we just got from the geometric sequence. This is simpler ad faster. Here is the corresponding code. function ShortCatchUpTime(D, PV, FV) {     var d = parseFloat(D);     var pv = parseFloat (PV);     var fv = parseFloat (FV);     return d / (pv - fv); } The code above, for both the iterative solution and the algebraic solution are actually for a larger class of problems.  In our original problem the student’s velocity (speed) is 1 mph. In the code it may be anything as long as it is less than the pursuer’s velocity. As long as PV > FV, the pursuer will catch up. Here is the really general formula: T = D / (PV – FV) Finally, let’s run the program for each of the pursuers.  It could not be worse. I know he’d rather be eaten alive than suffering through yet another math lesson. See the code run? Select  “Catch Up Time” in www.mgsltns.com/games.htm The host is running on Unix, so the link is case sensitive. That’s All Folks

  • New ways for backup, recovery and restore of Essbase Block Storage databases – part 2 by Bernhard Kinkel

    - by Alexandra Georgescu
After discussing in the first part of this article new options in Essbase for the general backup and restore, this second part will deal with the also rather new feature of Transaction Logging and Replay, which was released in version 11.1, enhancing existing restore options. Tip: Transaction logging and replay cannot be used for aggregate storage databases. Please refer to the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Backup and Recovery Guide (rel. 11.1.2.1). Even if backups are done on a regular, frequent base, subsequent data entries, loads or calculations would not be reflected in a restored database. Activating Transaction Logging could fill that gap and provides you with an option to capture these post-backup transactions for later replay. The following table shows, which are the transactions that could be logged when Transaction Logging is enabled: In order to activate its usage, corresponding statements could be added to the Essbase.cfg file, using the TRANSACTIONLOGLOCATION command. The complete syntax reads: TRANSACTIONLOGLOCATION [ appname [ dbname]] LOGLOCATION NATIVE ?ENABLE | DISABLE Where appname and dbname are optional parameters giving you the chance in combination with the ENABLE or DISABLE command to set Transaction Logging for certain applications or databases or to exclude them from being logged. If only an appname is specified, the setting applies to all databases in that particular application. If appname and dbname are not defined, all applications and databases would be covered. LOGLOCATION specifies the directory to which the log is written, e.g. D:\temp\trlogs. This directory must already exist or needs to be created before using it for log information being written to it. NATIVE is a reserved keyword that shouldn’t be changed. The following example shows how to first enable logging on a more general level for all databases in the application Sample, followed by a disabling statement on a more granular level for only the Basic database in application Sample, hence excluding it from being logged. TRANSACTIONLOGLOCATION Sample Hyperion/trlog/Sample NATIVE ENABLE TRANSACTIONLOGLOCATION Sample Basic Hyperion/trlog/Sample NATIVE DISABLE Tip: After applying changes to the configuration file you must restart the Essbase server in order to initialize the settings. A maybe required replay of logged transactions after restoring a database can be done only by administrators. The following options are available: In Administration Services selecting Replay Transactions on the right-click menu on the database: Here you can select to replay transactions logged after the last replay request was originally executed or after the time of the last restored backup (whichever occurred later) or transactions logged after a specified time. Or you can replay transactions selectively based on a range of sequence IDs, which can be accessed using Display Transactions on the right-click menu on the database: These sequence ID s (0, 1, 2 … 7 in the screenshot below) are assigned to each logged transaction, indicating the order in which the transaction was performed. This helps to ensure the integrity of the restored data after a replay, as the replay of transactions is enforced in the same order in which they were originally performed. So for example a calculation originally run after a data load cannot be replayed before having replayed the data load first. After a transaction is replayed, you can replay only transactions with a greater sequence ID. For example, replaying the transaction with sequence ID of 4 includes all preceding transactions, while afterwards you can only replay transactions with a sequence ID of 5 or greater. Tip: After restoring a database from a backup you should always completely replay all logged transactions, which were executed after the backup, before executing new transactions. But not only the transaction information itself needs to be logged and stored in a specified directory as described above. During transaction logging, Essbase also creates archive copies of data load and rules files in the following default directory: ARBORPATH/app/appname/dbname/Replay These files are then used during the replay of a logged transaction. By default Essbase archives only data load and rules files for client data loads, but in order to specify the type of data to archive when logging transactions you can use the command TRANSACTIONLOGDATALOADARCHIVE as an additional entry in the Essbase.cfg file. The syntax for the statement is: TRANSACTIONLOGDATALOADARCHIVE [appname [dbname]] [OPTION] While to the [appname [dbname]] argument the same applies like before for TRANSACTIONLOGLOCATION, the valid values for the OPTION argument are the following: Make the respective setting for which files copies should be logged, considering from which location transactions are usually taking place. Selecting the NONE option prevents Essbase from saving the respective files and the data load cannot be replayed. In this case you must first manually load the data before you can replay the transactions. Tip: If you use server or SQL data and the data and rules files are not archived in the Replay directory (for example, you did not use the SERVER or SERVER_CLIENT option), Essbase replays the data that is actually in the data source at the moment of the replay, which may or may not be the data that was originally loaded. • CUSTOMER INSIGHT, Trend, Modelli e Tecnologie di Successo nel CRM di ultima generazione

    - by antonella.buonagurio(at)oracle.com
• Linux Versus E. coli

<b>Discover:</b> "Linux bears an uncanny resemblance to the genes in a living cell. Many genes make proteins that act as switches for other genes. The proteins clamp onto DNA near a target gene, allowing the cell to read the gene and make a new protein."

  • Remote SCCM deployment of Operating Systems

    - by Decad
I am currently using sccm 2007 for our software deployment and PXE. During this summer I have been tasked with upgrading 2000+ machines from Windows XP to Windows 7. My plan is to use sccm to advertise the Windows 7 task sequence to the machines. However my question is, what is the best way to automate the deployment? Can I make SCCM turn a machine on and make it run an advertised task sequence without having to be in the same room as the machines?

  • Synergy: Is there a way to push Win+L to all screens, not just the server?

    - by Offbeatmammal
When I hit Win+L on either of my machines I'd ideally like to be able to lock both client and server What happens though is no matter which screen I hit the key combination... it locks the server. I'm guessing the OS is trapping the key sequence before it can get passed to the app to manage, so I'm happy to use a different key sequence as long as the result will be the same Synergy 1.4.2 64 bit Beta

  • Remote Server: Please wait for the System Event Notification Service

    - by Jeff Handley
I was rebooting a remote server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) over remote desktop and the session now shows the blue screen during the shutdown sequence, and the message "Please wait for the System Event Notification Service..." It seems that everything is still running on the server (for instance, http://jeffhandley.com is still responding), but I need to get the machine to finish the reboot sequence. How can I force the machine past this point? It's been stuck there for about 30 minutes.

  • w3schools xsd example won't work with dom4j. How do I use dom4j to validate xml using xsds?

    - by HappyEngineer
    I am trying to use dom4j to validate the xml at http://www.w3schools.com/Schema/schema_example.asp using the xsd from that same page. It fails with the following error: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: cvc-elt.1: Cannot find the declaration of element 'shiporder'. I'm using the following code: SAXReader reader = new SAXReader(); reader.setValidation(true); reader.setFeature("http://apache.org/xml/features/validation/schema", true); reader.setErrorHandler(new XmlErrorHandler()); reader.read(in); where in is an InputStream and XmlErrorHandler is a simple class that just logs all errors. I'm using the following xml file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <shiporder orderid="889923" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="test1.xsd"> <orderperson>John Smith</orderperson> <shipto> <name>Ola Nordmann</name> <address>Langgt 23</address> <city>4000 Stavanger</city> <country>Norway</country> </shipto> <item> <title>Empire Burlesque</title> <note>Special Edition</note> <quantity>1</quantity> <price>10.90</price> </item> <item> <title>Hide your heart</title> <quantity>1</quantity> <price>9.90</price> </item> </shiporder> and the corresponding xsd: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?> <xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <xs:simpleType name="stringtype"> <xs:restriction base="xs:string"/> </xs:simpleType> <xs:simpleType name="inttype"> <xs:restriction base="xs:positiveInteger"/> </xs:simpleType> <xs:simpleType name="dectype"> <xs:restriction base="xs:decimal"/> </xs:simpleType> <xs:simpleType name="orderidtype"> <xs:restriction base="xs:string"> <xs:pattern value="[0-9]{6}"/> </xs:restriction> </xs:simpleType> <xs:complexType name="shiptotype"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="name" type="stringtype"/> <xs:element name="address" type="stringtype"/> <xs:element name="city" type="stringtype"/> <xs:element name="country" type="stringtype"/> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="itemtype"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="title" type="stringtype"/> <xs:element name="note" type="stringtype" minOccurs="0"/> <xs:element name="quantity" type="inttype"/> <xs:element name="price" type="dectype"/> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="shipordertype"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="orderperson" type="stringtype"/> <xs:element name="shipto" type="shiptotype"/> <xs:element name="item" maxOccurs="unbounded" type="itemtype"/> </xs:sequence> <xs:attribute name="orderid" type="orderidtype" use="required"/> </xs:complexType> <xs:element name="shiporder" type="shipordertype"/> </xs:schema> The xsd and xml file are in the same directory.   • Behaviour of insertion trigger when defining autoincrement in Oracle

    - by Genba
I have been looking for a way to define an autoincrement data type in Oracle and have found these questions on Stack Overflow: Autoincrement in Oracle Autoincrement Primary key in Oracle database The way to use autoincrement types consists in defining a sequence and a trigger to make insertion transparent, where the insertion trigger looks so: create trigger mytable_trg before insert on mytable for each row when (new.id is null) begin select myseq.nextval into :new.id from dual; end; I have some doubts about the behaviour of this trigger: What does this trigger do when the supplied value of "id" is different from NULL? What does the colon before "new" mean? I want the trigger to insert the new row with the next value of the sequence as ID whatever the supplied value of "new.id" is. I imagine that the WHEN statement makes the trigger to only insert the new row if the supplied ID is NULL (and it will not insert, or will fail, otherwise). Could I just remove the WHEN statement in order for the trigger to always insert using the next value of the sequence?

  • For a primary key of an integral type, why is it important to avoid gaps ?

    - by Jacques René Mesrine
I am generating a surrogate key for a table & due to my hi/lo algorithm, everytime you reboot/restart the machine, gaps may appear. T1: current hi = 10000000 (sequence being dished out .. 1 to 100) Assume that current sequence is 10000050 T2: restart system. T3: System gives out the next_hi as 10000100 (sequence being dished out now ranges from 101 to 200) T4: Next request for a key returns 100001001 From a primary key or indexing internals perspective, why is it important that there be no gaps in the sequences ? I'm asking this for a deeper understanding of mysql specifically. Thanks
