• NVIDIA Driver Crashing on Custom-Built Windows 7 PC

  I've got a custom-built PC with these specs: Fractal Design Define R3 ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard Intel Core i7-2700k with Thermalright HR-02 Macho Cooler NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 with Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo II Cooler Crucial M4 128 GB SSD 1 TB Hitachi HDD G.SKILL Ares Series 2x8 GB RAM (x2) SeaSonic 520W PSU Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (x64) NVIDIA driver version 301.42 Upon building the PC, I overclocked the CPU (but never the GPU), and there were no problems for 1-2 months. Then I started getting crashes with this error when doing anything that's computationally or graphically intensive: I un-overclocked the CPU, but that hasn't fixed anything. This is what the inside of my case looks like: I'd appreciate any guidance on resolving this problem. I did get some of the thermal paste on the graphics card when installing the aftermarket cooler, but there were no issues for a month or two. Update I did a clean install and the issue persisted - looks like it's a hardware issue. I will try removing/cleaning/reseating all the parts.

• Are these symptoms of a video card is dying?

  What I am getting from my PC: Scrambled text in the boot menu. The scrambled text dissapears and everthing goes normal after several restarts, or the computer has worked for some time. Display goes blank showing, windows kernel mode driver stopped responding. Sometimes the windows just hangs, I need to restart the pc for that. There used to be some scrambled colors in my windows, so I cleaned up my video carda and port and reinstalled the video card, things are something right. The pc runs normally for hours in safe mode, as diffault display driver works at that case. My PC specs: Core 2 Duo processor 2 GB RAM NVIDIA EN210 SILENT GPU Windows 8 Drivers details: NVIDIA drivers - v331.65, told to be fully compatible with Win8 Currently I am installing Windows 7 and will be putting the older version of driver v320 to test, yet I'm really confused weather my GPU is dying or still on go.

• No Sound on Debian

  I've been dabbing around with LinuxMint Debian and i'm not getting any sound. Have removed Pulse = still no sound. Re-installed it, still no sound. Basically the only sound i get is when i perform the test with the Logitech headset. Otherwise, no sound anywhere. Have also tried an experimental version of LM Debian KDE but same story. • Windows 8 taking 4+ mins to shutdown

  I did a fresh installation of Windows 8 64 bit, build 9200 (released on aug 16th). I installed the drivers and some basic softwares like NetBeans, mingw, iis server and php. For the first few times, it was restarting normally. But then at shutdown, it would show the shutdown screen for some seconds and then turn black for about 4 mins (similar to what happens at hibernation). I disabled the "fast startup" option in power options, but the problem still persists. Windows 7 and Ubuntu shut down normally. specs: 4gb ram, 750 gb sata hdd, solved by installing Windows Updates released during October. It was a serious bug in the OS, afaik. Now even hibernate takes upto 30 secs max. Still, win 8 is too buggy for release.

  My computer crashes like it freezes sometimes but sometimes it jumps to a black screen which I can do nothing about other than restart. I tested if it has anything to do with the programs I normally run or with the ones I installed, but it's a long time I have the problem and I think it also happened in the beginning that I bought this computer. To make sure, I normally run skype and Spiral Knights and some animation softwares like Flash. • Windows server response time very high

  Server Specs Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit Provider : Fasthosts .Net Framework: 4.0 6 GB RAM (its using 4.6 GB) i have a website with thousands of pages structured like folderone/1/one to 500.aspx folderone/2/one to 500.aspx . . folderone/500/one to 500.aspx To load this pages for the first time after the release, for each folder it takes about 20 to 30 minutes and once one page is loaded the rest of the pages loads fine. This happens for all folders. And this repeats every time i restart the server, when a added anything to app_code or if i change the web.config. My site is mainly works Google and due to this problem its giving errors. Any help will be highly appreciated please. i am happy to buy a beer for you if its resolved. Thanks in advance...

• Black screen on Windows 7 right after opening Google Sketchup or Minecraft

  I get a black screen on Windows 7 right after opening Google Sketchup or Minecraft. I presume there are other applications that cause this too - but I have not tried to open them. The window initially stops responding for a few seconds, before I get a black screen and my Skype call ends abruptly. I have tried waiting for a few minutes but nothing happens. I have to power down my computer and then boot it up again. This is becoming an annoyance, and I don't know what's causing it. Here are my specs, if it helps: My graphics card is an ATI RADEON XPRESS 1100. If you need any more info or if I've missed anything please ask. Thanks :-)

• Upgrading RAM in HP Compaq d530

  I want to upgrade my hp compaq d530 from 1.2GB to 4GB of RAM. I look at the specs: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11632_ca/11632_ca.html and saw that I could get up to 4GB of RAM that is DDR, PC3200. So, I got 4GB of RAM. I ordered 4 of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/190398777195?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649. When I installed all 4 I get 5 beeps and 5 red blinks which I've concluded means I'm having a memory problem. When I switch back to 1.2 GB it works fine. I was wondering, am I doing something wrong?

  I think anyone who's used Oracle SQL Developer will agree that it's painfully slow on the load. My research has lead me to a solution that seems to have helped a little, and that's telling OSQLD not to check for updates on startup. However, it still takes several minutes to open. What could OSQLD possibly be doing during load time? Is there any way get it to open right away? • Can an UPS be too powerful?

  Our old network admin bought the top range UPS a few months ago but never came around to setting it up and is no longer with the company. Now the old UPS broke down and needs to be replaced, but an external company that did an audit said that that UPS won't work. Now we are no hardware specialists, but the difference in specs is a higher output from 5A to 8.8A meaning a higher output. But isn't the UPS supposed to give the server the required output anyway? This 'independent' audit does sell its own hardware including UPSes so I'm not sure how much bias they have. Is there a reason why we can't replace the old broken UPS with the new more powerful one? • Uploading my ITunes music that I saved on a flash drive to ITunes on my new computer then downloading it to my Ipod Touch

  I had an old computer with Windows XP. I transferred all my music, at least I hoped I had to a flash drive. Also, my computer kept giving me error messages that it could no longer sync to my Ipod Touch First Generation. I reformatted my Ipod back to original factory specs on the old computer. I have a new computer with Windows 7. I can't transfer my music from my flash drive to the ITunes Library. I also can't transfer it to my Ipod. I keep getting the message "Songs cannot be added to the Ipod because all of its space has been reserved for data." There's nothing in the Ipod memory. It's clear. What can I do? I want my music back.

• Windows 7 slowing down during hard drive activity

  Sometimes when normally using my PC, it will (seemingly) randomly slow down, and maybe sometimes even freeze for several seconds. During this slow down period, it looks like a (I don't know which drive it is) hard drive is constantly being written to. During the last slow down, I started Windows's Ressource Monitor and found out that the System process was writing up to 10MB/s to a drive (I suspect it's the system drive, C:\, but I don't know for sure). I'm not doing anything unusual (at least, I don't think I am), and most of the time, it will work normally, but, as I said, it just randomly slows down for some times. Any ideas on what might be causing this and how I can prevent this from happening again? (I have a triple-core processor and 4GB of RAM. My system drive is a WD Caviar Black 500GB, my secondary, 'data' drive is a Samsung drive, which I don't know the model number of, but I can look it up. I can also post my full PC specs if needed.)

• How to increase the volume gain when viewing online flash video?

  When watching online Flash videos on Youtube, Dailymotion, etc... sometimes the videos are recorded at low volume. The thing is that, I have a HP Notebook with good enough audio volume, but when I watch these "low volume" videos the sound level is really low, even when I have the volume at 100%. So I am looking for a way to increase the volume gain (like VLC player where you can increase it to 200%), BUT while watching it live on Youtube... that is, I don't want to download the video on my PC. Is there a software that can do that? Maybe an advanced flash video player that integrates to browser? or some other software to increase the volume gain overall on my laptop? My Specs: HP Pavilion Notebook, Audio: IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (integrated), Vista 64-bit, 4 GB RAM, etc.....

• 64-bit Hardware Virtualization on VirtualBox

  I am trying to set up a SQL Server practice lab using VirtualBox and a trial copy of Windows Server 2K8 R2 in ISO format. I received an error message that states my processor does not support 64-bit hardware virtualization. Although I "Enabled" Intel ardware virtualization in the BIOS that still doesn't work. According to the Intel website, the processor does support VT-x, however the accelerated tab in VirtualBox is greyed out and no references to VT-x are mentioned in the settings options available to me. Any ideas on how I can get around this? I checked around ServerFault and couldn't find anything but if I missed an applicable post a link is great too. I need to place this FTP client on a server in the DMZ that will not be routinely logged in, so the client needs to run as a service or something like that? I need the client to be able to retrieve files from the server on a schedule (Tuesday Mornings) and drop them in a local directory for pickup by another process. I would also like the solution to be capable of performing sftp transfers. • Bringing my Dell XPS 13 ultrabook back to factory state

  I have a brand new Dell XPS 13 ultra book. After i picked it up at the store, i wiped the exising partitions which also contained the restore/rescue data, which you need to reinstall the factory version of Windows 8 that comes with this machine. I did this because we have a different MS partner edition of Windows which i prefer to run. After doing all this, i noticed that there was something wrong with machine. No real damage, but the specs are not completely as they should be. Turned out that a simple mistake while ordering. Now, long story short, the shop says that it has no problem with taking the product back, as long as it is in it's original state. And this is the problem i'm having, because i formatted the original partitions that contain that rescue option / windows 8 setup, i don't have a clue whether it's possible to get back to that original. Does anyone have an idea on how to get this fixed?

• Is a memory upgrade a viable option to fix performance issues? [closed]

  I'm currently seeing my PC getting bogged down by Firefox 11.0 alone with only one hundred tabs open. Resulting in a memory use of over 530M , VM size of over 800M and an insane amount of page faults (easily reaching 100 million over the course of the day). The PF delta during normal operation easily reaches 7k with peaks to 15k sometimes reaching over 20k. This leads to a (real) deterioration to response time when switching, opening and closing tabs, opening menus, typing, ... My question is: Am I right in assuming that plugging in more RAM (either adding 2x1GB or replacing the existing RAM with 2x2GB or 4x1GB) will solve this problem? My specs: Windows XP Home Edition SP3 (32 bit) Intel Core Duo 2,4 GHz 2x512MB RAM 800MHz DDR2 (dual channel) 4MB unified cache 320GB HDD Intel G33 (X3100) onboard graphics (no graphics card but PCI express x16 slot is available)

• What power cord does a WD16001032 hard drive use?

  I have a Western Digital 160GB My Book USB external hard drive (WD16001032), but I can't find its power cord (or, at least, figure out which one it is in my box of cords). It might be that only one power cord would fit, but I'm a bit cautious since I just tried one of the cords with a router and could smell electronics burning when I used an incorrect one. What voltage/amps are needed for this drive? I can't find specs on Western Digital's site. I'm assuming this is due to it being an older drive.

• Acer Aspire 5532 crashes with no warning

  I have an Acer Aspire 5532. I don't have more specs off the top of my head but from what I've looked up it has all the factory stock stuff in. My keyboard is completely shot and doesn't work at all. It was working fine for quite a while, however I go to get on it Thanksgiving night and all of a sudden it just crashes with no warning. I try to restart it and it beeps 3 times with about 15 seconds in between each beep. After that it will go to start up and get to the log in screen, and about 3 minutes later it will crash again with absolutely no warning. The same thing happens every time I try to start it up. I've taken it completely apart and cleaned the fan and all the airways. I made sure all the connections are good (or at least all the ones that I can get to above the mother board), put it back together and I get the same problem.

  We have 2 servers. One is old server and another is the new one. Currently we about doing a migration because the old server is not capable enough to handle everyday requests. The specs are: Old server Ubuntu 10.04 Nginx as Reverse Proxy Apache WSGI Python/Django New Server Ubuntu 10.04 Nginx Gunicorn Python/Django Celery+Redis Our manager asked us to research if the old server can perform multiple forwarding to all incoming request, for example, set Nginx of old server to forward all request to both old and new server. The purpose is to perform unit testing to new server using old server as comparer, see if the new server is ready to take over the role. • Freeze during Battlefield 3 - Probable Hardware issue?

  my friend's notebook frequently freezes during BF3 sessions since ~1 1/2 months. It runs Win764Bit and he already reinstalled windows during the process, it didn't help. So we guess it might probably be a hardware issue. Now the question - which part of the hardware could effect a total freeze of the system WITHOUT getting a bluescreen? Or are there any known software issues he could also try? The hardware specs are: Acer 7745G Intel i7 720QM AMD Mobility 5850HD - Running Catalyst 11.6 now btw. (all drivers tested from 11.2 to 12.6 though) 4GB Ram 1.333MHz Oh and yeah, he just added that it crashes playing Diablo3 from time to time, too. Please help :)

• High IO latency on ESXi 4.1 on HP DL580 G7

  at my Company we were experiencing some weird spikes on IO latency on one of our ESXi instances. we've spend 24h figuring out whats wrong and no clue so far. after giving up we put all the disks into a different server (HP DL380 G7) with much less RAM and only one 6(HT) cores (from 12 on the DL 580) which run fine for about 2 hours. I dont know the specs for the DL380 but both servers have a Smart Array P410i with BBWC (the DL 580 has 1GB) Is it possible that one(or all) of the disks is failing without actually failing?
