  • Interfacing Android Nexus One with Arduino + BlueSmirf

    - by efgomez
I'm a bit new to all of this, so bear with me - I'd really appreciate your help. I am trying to link the Android Nexus One with an arduino (Duemilanove) that is connected to a BlueSmirf. I have a program that is simply outputting the string "Hello Bluetooth" to whatever device the BlueSmirf is connected to. Here is the Arduino program: void setup(){ Serial.begin(115200); int i; } void loop(){Serial.print("Hello Bluetooth!"); delay(1000); } One my computer BT terminal I can see the message and connect no problem. The trouble is with my android code. I can connect to the device with android, but when I look at the log it is not displaying "Hello Bluetooth". Here is the debug log: 04-09 16:27:49.022: ERROR/BTArduino(17288): FireFly-2583 connected 04-09 16:27:49.022: ERROR/BTArduino(17288): STARTING TO CONNECT THE SOCKET 04-09 16:27:55.705: ERROR/BTArduino(17288): Received: 16 04-09 16:27:56.702: ERROR/BTArduino(17288): Received: 1 04-09 16:27:56.712: ERROR/BTArduino(17288): Received: 15 04-09 16:27:57.702: ERROR/BTArduino(17288): Received: 1 04-09 16:27:57.702: ERROR/BTArduino(17288): Received: 15 04-09 16:27:58.704: ERROR/BTArduino(17288): Received: 1 04-09 16:27:58.704: ERROR/BTArduino(17288): Received: 15 ect... Here is the code, I'm trying to put only the relative code but if you need more please let me know: private class ConnectThread extends Thread { private final BluetoothSocket mySocket; private final BluetoothDevice myDevice; public ConnectThread(BluetoothDevice device) { myDevice = device; BluetoothSocket tmp = null; try { tmp = device.createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord(MY_UUID); } catch (IOException e) { Log.e(TAG, "CONNECTION IN THREAD DIDNT WORK"); } mySocket = tmp; } public void run() { Log.e(TAG, "STARTING TO CONNECT THE SOCKET"); InputStream inStream = null; boolean run = false; //...More Connection code here... The more relative code is here: byte[] buffer = new byte[1024]; int bytes; // handle Connection try { inStream = mySocket.getInputStream(); while (run) { try { bytes = inStream.read(buffer); Log.e(TAG, "Received: " + bytes); } catch (IOException e3) { Log.e(TAG, "disconnected"); } } I am reading bytes = inStream.read(buffer). I know bytes is an integer, so I tried sending integers over bluetooth because "bytes" was an integer but it still didn't make sense. It almost appears that is sending incorrect baud rate. Could this be true? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

  • Using Apple’s Bonjour service from .NET?

    - by Martín Marconcini
I have an iPhone app that publishes through Bonjour. The Mac counterpart works, they sync and exchange data. Now I have to port that little Mac app to Windows. I’ve decided to go with .NET (because that’s what I know). The app is not complex, but I’m in the early stages. I need to browse/discover Bonjour services. For this task, I’ve downloaded Mono.Zeroconf and Apple’s latest SDK (which includes a couple of C# Samples). I’m not really pasting code because I’m really copy/pasting the samples. In fact, Mono.Zeroconf has a MZClient.exe that can be used to test “all the API”. My 1st test was -on the same box- open two cmd.exe and launch a MZclient registering a service and on the other, launch it and “discover it”. It doesn’t work. Here’s the server: C:\MZ>MZClient -v -p "_http._tcp 80 mysimpleweb” *** Registering name = 'mysimpleweb', type = '_http._tcp', domain = 'local.' *** Registered name = ‘mysimpleweb’ On the other terminal: c:\MZ>MZClient -v -t "_http._tcp" Creating a ServiceBrowser with the following settings: Interface = 0 (All) Address Protocol = Any Domain = local Registration Type = _http._tcp Resolve Shares = False Hit ^C when you're bored waiting for responses. And that’s it. Nothing happens. I’ve of course tried with different services to no avail. Even played a little bit with that domain thing. Remember this is the same box. I tried on another computer, because this was a VM inside OSX, so I went ahead and tried on a “pure” win XP. Nothing. note: I have Apple Bonjour Service (up and running) and also the Apple SDK (installed later). Given that this didn’t work, I went ahead and decided to try the Apple SDK which has an Interop and a few pre-compiled samples (and its source code). Short story, neither the mDSNBrowser.exe nor the SimpleChat.exe work/see/discover anything. My box is a Win7 under Parallels, but that doesn’t seem to be affecting anything, given that the native XP exhibits the same problems. What am I doing so awfully wrong?

  • Segmentation fault when creating a Phonon MediaObject

    - by Luke Hansford
    I have music playing program made using PySide which uses Phonon to playback audio. I updated to MacOS X Mavericks a few days ago, which meant I needed to reinstall PySide. I'm not sure which of these actions has caused this, but now whenever I try to create a Phonon MediaObject I get a Segmentation Fault: 11 from Python. It's not just in my program, it happens when trying to create a MediaObject in Python without any other actions. I'm getting the following error message from my Mac whenever it crashes: Process: Python [13711] Path: /usr/local/Cellar/python/2.7.5/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/Resources/Python.app/Contents/MacOS/Python Identifier: org.python.python Version: 2.7.5 (2.7.5) Code Type: X86-64 (Native) Parent Process: bash [13707] Responsible: Terminal [13704] User ID: 501 Date/Time: 2013-11-01 19:47:53.164 +1000 OS Version: Mac OS X 10.9 (13A603) Report Version: 11 Anonymous UUID: C2686854-18CA-9D37-26E9-60050E3C4DA6 Sleep/Wake UUID: BB983BF6-CCE2-44D1-82A0-1C73382DFFE4 Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000008 VM Regions Near 0x8: --> __TEXT 00000001082e8000-00000001082e9000 [ 4K] r-x/rwx SM=COW /usr/local/Cellar/python/2.7.5/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/Resources/Python.app/Contents/MacOS/Python Thread 0 Crashed:: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread 0 QtCore 0x000000010a1b34cb QObject::moveToThread(QThread*) + 17 1 QtDBus 0x000000010d55f98b QDBusDefaultConnection::QDBusDefaultConnection(QDBusConnection::BusType, char const*) + 171 2 QtDBus 0x000000010d55ebdf QDBusConnection::sessionBus() + 71 3 phonon 0x000000010d50228d Phonon::FactoryPrivate::FactoryPrivate() + 189 4 phonon 0x000000010d5024d5 Phonon::$_249::operator->() + 99 5 phonon 0x000000010d502991 Phonon::Factory::registerFrontendObject(Phonon::MediaNodePrivate*) + 17 6 phonon 0x000000010d50b27e Phonon::MediaNodePrivate::MediaNodePrivate(Phonon::MediaNodePrivate::CastId) + 80 7 phonon 0x000000010d50f570 Phonon::MediaObjectPrivate::MediaObjectPrivate() + 24 8 phonon 0x000000010d50be9d Phonon::MediaObject::MediaObject(QObject*) + 45 9 phonon.so 0x000000010d42f24a Sbk_Phonon_MediaObject_Init + 458 10 org.python.python 0x0000000108338707 type_call + 189 11 org.python.python 0x00000001082f74fd PyObject_Call + 101 12 org.python.python 0x00000001083714f0 PyEval_EvalFrameEx + 15525 13 org.python.python 0x0000000108373aaf fast_function + 182 14 org.python.python 0x0000000108370919 PyEval_EvalFrameEx + 12494 15 org.python.python 0x000000010836d721 PyEval_EvalCodeEx + 1638 16 org.python.python 0x000000010836d0b5 PyEval_EvalCode + 54 17 org.python.python 0x000000010838beb8 run_mod + 53 18 org.python.python 0x000000010838bf5f PyRun_FileExFlags + 137 19 org.python.python 0x000000010838baad PyRun_SimpleFileExFlags + 718 20 org.python.python 0x000000010839c58b Py_Main + 3039 21 libdyld.dylib 0x00007fff8e4fb5fd start + 1 Thread 1:: Dispatch queue: com.apple.libdispatch-manager 0 libsystem_kernel.dylib 0x00007fff8c938662 kevent64 + 10 1 libdispatch.dylib 0x00007fff923e743d _dispatch_mgr_invoke + 239 2 libdispatch.dylib 0x00007fff923e7152 _dispatch_mgr_thread + 52 Thread 2: 0 libsystem_kernel.dylib 0x00007fff8c937e6a __workq_kernreturn + 10 1 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x00007fff90bd8f08 _pthread_wqthread + 330 2 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x00007fff90bdbfb9 start_wqthread + 13 Thread 3: 0 libsystem_kernel.dylib 0x00007fff8c937e6a __workq_kernreturn + 10 1 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x00007fff90bd8f08 _pthread_wqthread + 330 2 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x00007fff90bdbfb9 start_wqthread + 13 Thread 4: 0 libsystem_kernel.dylib 0x00007fff8c937e6a __workq_kernreturn + 10 1 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x00007fff90bd8f08 _pthread_wqthread + 330 2 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x00007fff90bdbfb9 start_wqthread + 13 Thread 0 crashed with X86 Thread State (64-bit): rax: 0x00007feba0d19700 rbx: 0x000000010d5b7098 rcx: 0x00000000002f4180 rdx: 0x000000000012c040 rdi: 0x0000000000000000 rsi: 0x00007feba0d19700 rbp: 0x00007fff57917210 rsp: 0x00007fff579171d0 r8: 0x00007feba0fd5d10 r9: 0x00007feba0ff5310 r10: 0x0000000019c04cbe r11: 0x0000000070769b38 r12: 0x00007fff57917220 r13: 0x00007feba0c07190 r14: 0x0000000000000000 r15: 0x00007feba0fe1430 rip: 0x000000010a1b34cb rfl: 0x0000000000010202 cr2: 0x0000000000000008 Logical CPU: 0 Error Code: 0x00000004 Trap Number: 14 Anyone have any ideas about what is happening?

  • Grails Liferay portlet not invoking action

    - by RJ Regenold
I am trying to create a simple portlet for Liferay 5.2.2 using Grails 1.2.1 with the grails-portlets 0.7 and grails-portlets-liferay 0.2 plugins. I created and deployed a stock portlet (just updated title, description, etc...). It deploys correctly and the view renders correctly. However, when I submit the default form that is in view.gsp it never hits the actionView function. Here are the relevant code bits: SearchPortlet.groovy class SearchPortlet { def title = 'Search' def description = ''' A simple search portlet. ''' def displayName = 'Search' def supports = ['text/html':['view', 'edit', 'help']] // Liferay server specific configurations def liferay_display_category = 'Category' def actionView = { println "In action view" } def renderView = { println "In render view" //TODO Define render phase. Return the map of the variables bound to the view ['mykey':'myvalue'] } ... } view.gsp <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/portlet" prefix="portlet" %> <div> <h1>View Page</h1> The map returned by renderView is passed in. Value of mykey: ${mykey} <form action="${portletResponse.createActionURL()}"> <input type="submit" value="Submit"/> </form> </div> The tomcat terminal prints In render view whenever I view the portlet, and after I press the submit button. It never prints the In action view statement. Any ideas? Update I turned on logging and this is what I see whenever I click the submit button in the portlet: [localhost].[/gportlet] - servletPath=/Search, pathInfo=/invoke, queryString=null, name=null [localhost].[/gportlet] - Path Based Include portlets.GrailsDispatcherPortlet - DispatcherPortlet with name 'Search' received render request portlets.GrailsDispatcherPortlet - Bound render request context to thread: com.liferay.portlet.RenderRequestImpl@7a158e portlets.GrailsDispatcherPortlet - Testing handler map [org.codehaus.grails.portlets.GrailsPortletHandlerMapping@1f06283] in DispatcherPortlet with name 'Search' portlets.GrailsDispatcherPortlet - Testing handler adapter [org.codehaus.grails.portlets.GrailsPortletHandlerAdapter@74f72b] portlets.GrailsPortletHandlerAdapter - portlet.handleMinimised not set, proceeding with normal render portlet.SearchPortlet - In render view portlets.GrailsPortletHandlerAdapter - Couldn't resolve action view /search/null.gsp portlets.GrailsPortletHandlerAdapter - Trying to render mode view /search/view.gsp portlets.GrailsDispatcherPortlet - Setting portlet response content type to view-determined type [text/html;charset=ISO-8859-1] [localhost].[/gportlet] - servletPath=/WEB-INF/servlet/view, pathInfo=null, queryString=null, name=null [localhost].[/gportlet] - Path Based Include portlets.GrailsDispatcherPortlet - Cleared thread-bound render request context: com.liferay.portlet.RenderRequestImpl@7a158e portlets.GrailsDispatcherPortlet - Successfully completed request The fourth line in that log snippet says Bound render request..., which I don't understand because the action in the form that is in the portlet is to the action url. I would've thought that should be an action request.

  • Ruby on Rails / PostgreSQL - Library not Loaded error when starting server- libq.5.dylib

    - by Mike McCoy
I have app that is running Ruby 1.9.2, Rails 3, and postgreSQL 8.3. It was originally setup and working with postgreSQL 9.1, but I uninstalled 9.1 and installed and changed to 8.3 insure compatibility on a Heroku shared database setup. It was running ok, but it's not now Now, when working on this app, when I run a database upgrade I get this error: dlopen(/Users/michaeljmccoy/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p290/gems/pg-0.12.2/lib/pg_ext.bundle, 9): Library not loaded: libpq.5.dylib Referenced from: /Users/michaeljmccoy/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p290/gems/pg-0.12.2/lib/pg_ext.bundle Reason: no suitable image found. However, when I add the path to my .profile file and restart the terminal window, I get the same errors.

  • Tunnel over HTTPS

    - by ephemient
At my workplace, the traffic blocker/firewall has been getting progressively worse. I can't connect to my home machine on port 22, and lack of ssh access makes me sad. I was previously able to use SSH by moving it to port 5050, but I think some recent filters now treat this traffic as IM and redirect it through another proxy, maybe. That's my best guess; in any case, my ssh connections now terminate before I get to log in. These days I've been using Ajaxterm over HTTPS, as port 443 is still unmolested, but this is far from ideal. (Sucky terminal emulation, lack of port forwarding, my browser leaks memory at an amazing rate...) I tried setting up mod_proxy_connect on top of mod_ssl, with the idea that I could send a CONNECT localhost:22 HTTP/1.1 request through HTTPS, and then I'd be all set. Sadly, this seems to not work; the HTTPS connection works, up until I finish sending my request; then SSL craps out. It appears as though mod_proxy_connect takes over the whole connection instead of continuing to pipe through mod_ssl, confusing the heck out of the HTTPS client. Is there a way to get this to work? I don't want to do this over plain HTTP, for several reasons: Leaving a big fat open proxy like that just stinks A big fat open proxy is not good over HTTPS either, but with authentication required it feels fine to me HTTP goes through a proxy -- I'm not too concerned about my traffic being sniffed, as it's ssh that'll be going "plaintext" through the tunnel -- but it's a lot more likely to be mangled than HTTPS, which fundamentally cannot be proxied Requirements: Must work over port 443, without disturbing other HTTPS traffic (i.e. I can't just put the ssh server on port 443, because I would no longer be able to serve pages over HTTPS) I have or can write a simple port forwarder client that runs under Windows (or Cygwin) Edit DAG: Tunnelling SSH over HTTP(S) has been pointed out to me, but it doesn't help: at the end of the article, they mention Bug 29744 - CONNECT does not work over existing SSL connection preventing tunnelling over HTTPS, exactly the problem I was running into. At this point, I am probably looking at some CGI script, but I don't want to list that as a requirement if there's better solutions available.

  • dynamic char array sizing

    - by droseman
Hello, In my application, I have a char array defined which can take one of three options: "okay", "high", "low" which are then sent down a serial port to a remote device. I currently have the array sized to take the 4 character words plus carriage return and line feed, but when I have to send "low" I get a null character in the strings, which I am concerned would confuse the host terminal. array definition char mod1_status_char[6] = {'0','0','0','0','0','0'}; char mod2_status_char[6] = {'0','0','0','0','0','0'}; char mod3_status_char[6] = {'0','0','0','0','0','0'}; sample of switch case statement: void DCOKStatus(uint8_t *ptr_status) { uint8_t status = *ptr_status; switch (status) { case 0x00: strcpy(mod1_status_char, "okay"); strcpy(mod2_status_char, "okay"); strcpy(mod3_status_char, "okay"); break; case 0x10: strcpy(mod1_status_char, "okay"); strcpy(mod2_status_char, "okay"); strcpy(mod3_status_char, "low"); break; } This is the struct which makes the message string to send strcpy(MsgStatus_on.descriptor_msg, "$psu_"); MsgStatus_on.address01 = hex_addr[0]; MsgStatus_on.address02 = hex_addr[1]; MsgStatus_on.space01 = 0x20; strcpy(MsgStatus_on.cmdmsg01, "op_en op1_"); strcpy(MsgStatus_on.statusmsg01, mod1_status_char); MsgStatus_on.space02 = 0x20; strcpy(MsgStatus_on.cmdmsg02, "op2_"); strcpy(MsgStatus_on.statusmsg02, mod2_status_char); MsgStatus_on.space03 = 0x20; strcpy(MsgStatus_on.cmdmsg03, "op3_"); strcpy(MsgStatus_on.statusmsg03, mod3_status_char); MsgStatus_on.CR = 0x0D; MsgStatus_on.LF = 0x0A; and this sends the message void USARTWrite(char *object, uint32_t size) { GPIO_SetBits(GPIOB, GPIO_Pin_1); char *byte; for (byte = object; size--; ++byte) { USART_SendData(USART1,*byte); } Would anyone be able to suggest a good approach to dynamically size the array to one character shorter when I need to send "low"? Thanks

Hi, I have translated a document from English to Norwegian in the LaTeX format, and while using norwegian special characters, I get an error using \usepackage[utf8x]{inputenc} to try and display the norwegian (scandinavian) special characters in PostScript/PDF/DVI format, saying Package utf8x Error: MalformedUTF-8sequence. So while that didn't work, I tried out another possible solution: \usepackage{ucs} \usepackage[norsk]babel And when I tried to save that in Emacs I get this message: These default coding systems were tried to encode text in the buffer `lol.tex': (utf-8-unix (905 . 4194277) (916 . 4194245) (945 . 4194278) (950 . 4194277) (954 . 4194296) (990 . 4194277) (1010 . 4194277) (1013 . 4194278) (1051 . 4194277) (1078 . 4194296) (1105 . 4194296)) However, each of them encountered characters it couldn't encode: utf-8-unix cannot encode these: \345 \305 \346 \345 \370 \345 \345 \346 \345 \370 ... Thanks to Emacs I have the possibility to check out the properties of those characters and the first one tells me: character: \345 (4194277, #o17777745, #x3fffe5) preferred charset: eight-bit (Raw bytes 128-255) code point: 0xE5 syntax: w which means: word buffer code: #xE5 file code: not encodable by coding system utf-8-unix display: not encodable for terminal Which doesn't tell me much. When I try to build this with texi2dvi --dvipdf filename.text I get a perfectly fine PDF, all without the special norwegian characters. When I am about to save Emacs also ask me: "Select coding system (default raw-text):" And I type in utf-8 to choose its coding system. I have also tried to choose default raw-text to see if I get some different result. But nothing. At last I tried \lstset{inputencoding=utf8x, extendedchars=\true} ... a code I came over while trying to google the solution to this problem. Which gives me this error: Undefined control sequence. So basically, I have tried every encoding option I have been able to find and nothing works. I am desperately trying to make this work since the norwegian translation must be published before the deadline. As an additional information I may add that I found out later on that I only had the en_US.UTF-8 in my locale, so I added nb_NO.UTF-8 and nb_NO.ISO-8859-15 and ran locale-gen + reboot without any changes. I hope I provided enough information to get some assistance, the characters in question is æ ø å.

  • Any tool(s) for knowing the layout (segments) of running process in Windows?

    - by claws
I've always been curious about How exactly the process looks in memory? What are the different segments(parts) in it? How exactly will be the program (on the disk) & process (in the memory) are related? My previous question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1966920/more-info-on-memory-layout-of-an-executable-program-process In my quest, I finally found a answer. I found this excellent article that cleared most of my queries: http://www.linuxforums.org/articles/understanding-elf-using-readelf-and-objdump_125.html In the above article, author shows how to get different segments of the process (LINUX) & he compares it with its corresponding ELF file. I'm quoting this section here: Courious to see the real layout of process segment? We can use /proc//maps file to reveal it. is the PID of the process we want to observe. Before we move on, we have a small problem here. Our test program runs so fast that it ends before we can even dump the related /proc entry. I use gdb to solve this. You can use another trick such as inserting sleep() before it calls return(). In a console (or a terminal emulator such as xterm) do: $ gdb test (gdb) b main Breakpoint 1 at 0x8048376 (gdb) r Breakpoint 1, 0x08048376 in main () Hold right here, open another console and find out the PID of program "test". If you want the quick way, type: $ cat /proc/`pgrep test`/maps You will see an output like below (you might get different output): [1] 0039d000-003b2000 r-xp 00000000 16:41 1080084 /lib/ld-2.3.3.so [2] 003b2000-003b3000 r--p 00014000 16:41 1080084 /lib/ld-2.3.3.so [3] 003b3000-003b4000 rw-p 00015000 16:41 1080084 /lib/ld-2.3.3.so [4] 003b6000-004cb000 r-xp 00000000 16:41 1080085 /lib/tls/libc-2.3.3.so [5] 004cb000-004cd000 r--p 00115000 16:41 1080085 /lib/tls/libc-2.3.3.so [6] 004cd000-004cf000 rw-p 00117000 16:41 1080085 /lib/tls/libc-2.3.3.so [7] 004cf000-004d1000 rw-p 004cf000 00:00 0 [8] 08048000-08049000 r-xp 00000000 16:06 66970 /tmp/test [9] 08049000-0804a000 rw-p 00000000 16:06 66970 /tmp/test [10] b7fec000-b7fed000 rw-p b7fec000 00:00 0 [11] bffeb000-c0000000 rw-p bffeb000 00:00 0 [12] ffffe000-fffff000 ---p 00000000 00:00 0 Note: I add number on each line as reference. Back to gdb, type: (gdb) q So, in total, we see 12 segment (also known as Virtual Memory Area--VMA). But I want to know about Windows Process & PE file format. Any tool(s) for getting the layout (segments) of running process in Windows? Any other good resources for learning more on this subject? EDIT: Are there any good articles which shows the mapping between PE file sections & VA segments?

  • how to write unicode hello world in C on windows

    - by hatchetman82
im tyring to get this to work: #define UNICODE #define _UNICODE #include <wchar.h> int main() { wprintf(L"Hello World!\n"); wprintf(L"£?, ?, ?!\n"); return 0; } using visual studio 2008 express (on windows xp, if it matters). when i run this from the command prompt (started as cmd /u which is supposed to enable unicode ?) i get this: C:\dev\unicodevs\unicodevs\Debugunicodevs.exe Hello World! -ú8 C:\dev\unicodevs\unicodevs\Debug which i suppose was to be expected given that the terminal does not have the font to render those. but what gets me is that even if i try this: C:\dev\unicodevs\unicodevs\Debugcmd /u /c "unicodevs.exe output.txt" the file produced (even though its UTF-8 encoded) looks like: Hello World! £ì the source file itself is defined as unicode (encoded in UTF-8 without BOM). the compiler output when building: 1------ Rebuild All started: Project: unicodevs, Configuration: Debug Win32 ------ 1Deleting intermediate and output files for project 'unicodevs', configuration 'Debug|Win32' 1Compiling... 1main.c 1.\main.c(1) : warning C4005: 'UNICODE' : macro redefinition 1 command-line arguments : see previous definition of 'UNICODE' 1.\main.c(2) : warning C4005: '_UNICODE' : macro redefinition 1 command-line arguments : see previous definition of '_UNICODE' 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\wchar.h 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\crtdefs.h 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\sal.h 1C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\sal.h(108) : warning C4001: nonstandard extension 'single line comment' was used 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\crtassem.h 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\vadefs.h 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\swprintf.inl 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\wtime.inl 1Linking... 1Embedding manifest... 1Creating browse information file... 1Microsoft Browse Information Maintenance Utility Version 9.00.30729 1Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. • More GCC link time issues: undefined reference to main

    - by vikramtheone
Hi Guys, I'm writing software for a Cortex-A8 processor and I have to write some ARM assembly code to access specific registers. I'm making use of the gnu compilers and related tool chains, these tools are installed on the processor board(Freescale i.MX515) with Ubuntu. I make a connection to it from my host PC(Windows) using WinSCP and the PuTTY terminal. As usual I started with a simple C project having main.c and functions.s. I compile the main.c using GCC, assemble the functions.s using as and link the generated object files using once again GCC, but I get strange errors during this process. An important finding - Meanwhile, I found out that my assembly code may have some issues because when I individually assemble it using the command as -o functions.o functions.s and try running the generated functions.o using ./functions.o command, the bash shell is failing to recognize this file as an executable(on pressing tab functions.o is not getting selected/PuTTY is not highlighting the file). Can anyone suggest whats happening here? Are there any specific options I have to send, to GCC during the linking process? The errors I see are strange and beyond my understanding, I don't understand to what the GCC is referring. I'm pasting here the contents of main.c, functions.s, the Makefile and the list of errors. Help, please!!! • Is there any "modern" text editor with command-line/minibuffer?

    - by Pedro Morte Rolo
A command line in a text editor is a wonderful feature. It allows the user to explore the editor's functionality and learn it's shortcuts in a textual way. It's much faster than using the mouse, and it is much easier to memorise "shortcuts" this way. Emacs and VI provide this, though, emacs and vi are not "modern". By "modern", I mean one that is original built to cope with the modern de-facto standards of selecting, copying, pasting, cutting, undoing, redoing and auto-completing. Cream/vi or Emacs/CUA are not valid options, since there are loads of things built over them that conflict with the mentioned stuff. It would be nice if there was an editor that would cope with the modern de-facto standards out-off-the-box, but still provide a command-line/minibuffer to perform/explore the commands and learn its shortcuts. Is there such a thing? I do not intend to use the "modern" term as derrogatory. I love both Emacs and VI, but I hate their keyboard-shortcut historical baggage. When I reffer to de-facto standards, I am not talking about Windows vs Whatever. Kate, gedit, Eclipse, Intelij or Textmate also follow the norm I am talking about and are not Windows editors. Please do not advertise Vim and Emacs, that's not answering the question. I am asking for alternatives. Why don't I like emacs and vi: Emacs: Despite CUA mode, emacs has loads of modes that conflict with this (e.g. slime, ruby-mode, etc...) It would be nice to have something that would work out-off-the-box. VI: I do not like that it is Visual/Insert-based. I do not know how to browse the text-editor's commands. I do not like that it is so much tought for the terminal. I believe that it has the same problem that I mentioned for emacs. This question is starting to look like requirement analysis.. As de-facto standards I mean: Ctrol-XCV for cut-copy-paste Ctrol-A for select-all Contrl-Z for Undo Ctrol-Y for Redo Control-F for Searching Contrl-Space for auto-complete Shift-arrow for selection Control-arrow for word-navigation Alt-Arrow for moving

  • vim plugin to show current Perl subroutine

    - by Andrew
I'm trying to make a vim plugin that will split the window on load and simulate a info bar at the top of my terminal. I've got it sorta working but I think I've either reached limits of my knowledge of vim syntax or there's a logic problem in my code. The desired effect would be to do a reverse search for any declaration of a Perl subroutine form my current location in the active buffer and display the line in the top buffer. I'm also trying to make it skip that buffer when I switch buffers with <C-R>. My attempt at that so far can be seen in the mess of nested if statements. Anyway, here's the code. I would greatly appreciate feedback from anyone. I tried '"some argument"' ,""some argument"" , "some\ argument" but did not work for me. how can i read this argument as one argument. Thnaks.

  • Illegal Instruction When Programming C++ on Linux

    - by remagen
    Heyo, My program, which does exactly the same thing every time it runs (moves a point sprite into the distance) will randomly fail with the text on the terminal 'Illegal Instruction'. My googling has found people encountering this when writing assembly which makes sense because assembly throws those kinds of errors. But why would g++ be generating an illegal instruction like this? It's not like I'm compiling for Windows then running on Linux (which even then, as long as both are on x86 shouldn't AFAIK cause an Illegal Instruction). I'll post the main file below. I can't reliably reproduce the error. Although, if I make random changes (add a space here, change a constant there) that force a recompile I can get a binary which will fail with Illegal Instruction every time it is run, until I try setting a break point, which makes the illegal instruction 'dissapear'. :( #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <GL/gl.h> #include <GL/glu.h> #include <SDL/SDL.h> #include "Screen.h" //Simple SDL wrapper #include "Textures.h" //Simple OpenGL texture wrapper #include "PointSprites.h" //Simple point sprites wrapper double counter = 0; /* Here goes our drawing code */ int drawGLScene() { /* These are to calculate our fps */ static GLint T0 = 0; static GLint Frames = 0; /* Move Left 1.5 Units And Into The Screen 6.0 */ glLoadIdentity(); glTranslatef(0.0f, 0.0f, -6); glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT | GL_DEPTH_BUFFER_BIT | GL_STENCIL_BUFFER_BIT); glEnable(GL_POINT_SPRITE_ARB); glTexEnvi(GL_POINT_SPRITE, GL_COORD_REPLACE, GL_TRUE); glBegin( GL_POINTS ); /* Drawing Using Triangles */ glVertex3d(0.0,0.0, 0); glVertex3d(1.0,0.0, 0); glVertex3d(1.0,1.0, counter); glVertex3d(0.0,1.0, 0); glEnd( ); /* Finished Drawing The Triangle */ /* Move Right 3 Units */ /* Draw it to the screen */ SDL_GL_SwapBuffers( ); /* Gather our frames per second */ Frames++; { GLint t = SDL_GetTicks(); if (t - T0 >= 50) { GLfloat seconds = (t - T0) / 1000.0; GLfloat fps = Frames / seconds; printf("%d frames in %g seconds = %g FPS\n", Frames, seconds, fps); T0 = t; Frames = 0; counter -= .1; } } return 1; } GLuint objectID; int main( int argc, char **argv ) { Screen screen; screen.init(); screen.resize(800,600); LoadBMP("./dist/Debug/GNU-Linux-x86/particle.bmp"); InitPointSprites(); while(true){drawGLScene();} }

  • Yet another Memory Leak Issue (memory is still gone when program terminates)- C program on SLES

    - by user1426181
I run my C program on Suse Linux Enterprise that compresses several thousand large files (between 10MB and 100MB in size), and the program gets slower and slower as the program runs (it's running multi-threaded with 32 threads on a Intel Sandy Bridge board). When the program completes, and it's run again, it's still very slow. When I watch the program running, I see that the memory is being depleted while the program runs, which you would think is just a classic memory leak problem. But, with a normal malloc()/free() mismatch, I would expect all the memory to return when the program terminates. But, most of the memory doesn't get reclaimed when the program completes. The free or top command shows Mem: 63996M total, 63724M used, 272M free when the program is slowed down to a halt, but, after the termination, the free memory only grows back to about 3660M. When the program is rerun, the free memory is quickly used up. The top program only shows that the program, while running, is using at most 4% or so of the memory. I thought that it might be a memory fragmentation problem, but, I built a small test program that simulates all the memory allocation activity in the program (many randomized aspects were built in - size/quantity), and it always returns all the memory upon completion. So, I don't think that's it. Questions: Can there be a malloc()/free() mismatch that will lose memory permanently, i.e. even after the process completes? What other things in a C program (not C++) can cause permanent memory loss, i.e. after the program completes, and even the terminal window closes? Only a reboot brings the memory back. I've read other posts about files not being closed causing problems, but, I don't think I have that problem. Is it valid to be looking at top and free for the memory statistics, i.e. do they accurately describe the memory situation? They do seem to correspond to the slowness of the program. If the program only shows a 4% memory usage, will something like valgrind find this problem?

  • What is wrong with this attempt of sending a break-signal?

    - by Jook
I have quite a headache about this seemingly easy task: send a break signal to my device, like the wxTerm (or any similar Terminal application) does. This signal has to be 125ms long, according to my tests and the devices specification. It should result in a specific response, but what I get is a longer response than expected, and the transmitted date is false. e.g.: what it should respond 08 00 81 00 00 01 07 00 what it does respond 08 01 0A 0C 10 40 40 07 00 7F What really boggles me is, that after I have used wxTerm to look at my available com-ports (without connecting or sending anything), my code starts to work! I can send then as many breaks as I like, I get my response right from then on. I have to reset my PC in order to try it again. What the heck is going on here?! Here is my code for a reset through a break-signal: minicom_client(boost::asio::io_service& io_service, unsigned int baud, const string& device) : active_(true), io_service_(io_service), serialPort(io_service, device) { if (!serialPort.is_open()) { cerr << "Failed to open serial port\n"; return; } boost::asio::serial_port_base::flow_control FLOW( boost::asio::serial_port_base::flow_control::hardware ); boost::asio::serial_port_base::baud_rate baud_option(baud); serialPort.set_option(FLOW); serialPort.set_option(baud_option); read_start(); std::cout << SetCommBreak(serialPort.native_handle()) << std::endl; std::cout << GetLastError() << std::endl; boost::posix_time::ptime mst1 = boost::posix_time::microsec_clock::local_time(); boost::this_thread::sleep(boost::posix_time::millisec(125)); boost::posix_time::ptime mst2 = boost::posix_time::microsec_clock::local_time(); std::cout << ClearCommBreak(serialPort.native_handle()) << std::endl; std::cout << GetLastError() << std::endl; boost::posix_time::time_duration msdiff = mst2 - mst1; std::cout << msdiff.total_milliseconds() << std::endl; } Edit: It was only necessary to look at the combo-box selection of com-ports of wxTerm - no active connection was needed to be established in order to make my code work. I am guessing, that there is some sort of initialisation missing, which is done, when wxTerm is creating the list for the serial-port combo-box.

  • Methods in Customized View did not get invoke in AppDelegate, Why?

    - by NorthKyut
I want the methods pauseGame in customized UIView - MyGameView get invoked when the phone is locked or interrupted. So I have a pauseGame method but it can't stop the timer when user lock screen (command+L). The lock screen did appear but the game still running at the background. So I added the testPause method to MyGameView and MyGameAppDelegate and and put a breakpoint to debug it. When screen locked it, the screen lock appeared and the code did stop at the breakpoint. But when I tried to step into the testPause method, it didn't take me to the method in MyGameView (it just passed it, not skipped) and no message was printed on terminal by NSLog. Why? What did I miss? // // MyGameAppDelegate.h // MyGame // #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @class MyGameViewController; @class MyGameView; @interface MyGameAppDelegate : NSObject { UIWindow *window; MyGameViewController *viewController; MyGameView *view; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet MyGameViewController *viewController; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet MyGameView *view; @end // // MyGameAppDelegate.m // MyGame // #import "MyGameAppDelegate.h" #import "MyGameViewController.h" #import "MyGameView.h" @implementation MyGameAppDelegate @synthesize window; @synthesize viewController; @synthesize view; - (void)applicationWillResignActive:(UIApplication *)application { /* Sent when the application is about to move from active to inactive state. This can occur for certain types of temporary interruptions (such as an incoming phone call or SMS message) or when the user quits the application and it begins the transition to the background state. Use this method to pause ongoing tasks, disable timers, and throttle down OpenGL ES frame rates. Games should use this method to pause the game. */ [view pauseGame]; [view testPause]; } @end // // MyGameView.h // MyGame @interface MyGameView : UIView { - (void)pauseGame; - (void)testPause; @end // // MyGameView.m // MyGame // #import "MyGameView.h" #import "AtlasSprite.h" #import "MyGameViewController.h" #import "SecondViewController.h" @implementation MyGameView - (void)pauseGame { [theTimer invalidate]; theTimer = nil; } - (void)testPause{ NSLog(@"TestPause"); } @end

  • Run Windows in Ubuntu with VMware Player

    - by Matthew Guay
Are you an enthusiast who loves their Ubuntu Linux experience but still needs to use Windows programs?  Here’s how you can get the full Windows experience on Ubuntu with the free VMware Player. Linux has become increasingly consumer friendly, but still, the wide majority of commercial software is only available for Windows and Macs.  Dual-booting between Windows and Linux has been a popular option for years, but this is a frustrating solution since you have to reboot into the other operating system each time you want to run a specific application.  With virtualization, you’ll never have to make this tradeoff.  VMware Player makes it quick and easy to install any edition of Windows in a virtual machine.  With VMware’s great integration tools, you can copy and paste between your Linux and Windows programs and even run native Windows applications side-by-side with Linux ones. Getting Started Download the latest version of VMware Player for Linux, and select either the 32-bit or 64-bit version, depending on your system.  VMware Player is a free download, but requires registration.  Sign in with your VMware account, or create a new one if you don’t already have one. VMware Player is fairly easy to install on Linux, but you will need to start out the installation from the terminal.  First, enter the following to make sure the installer is marked as executable, substituting version/build_number for the version number on the end of the file you downloaded. chmod +x ./VMware-Player-version/build_number.bundle Then, enter the following to start the install, again substituting your version number: gksudo bash ./VMware-Player-version/build_number.bundle You may have to enter your administrator password to start the installation, and then the VMware Player graphical installer will open.  Choose whether you want to check for product updates and submit usage data to VMware, and then proceed with the install as normal. VMware Player installed in only a few minutes in our tests, and was immediately ready to run, no reboot required.  You can now launch it from your Ubuntu menu: click Applications \ System Tools \ VMware Player. You’ll need to accept the license agreement the first time you run it. Welcome to VMware Player!  Now you can create new virtual machines and run pre-built ones on your Ubuntu desktop. Install Windows in VMware Player on Ubuntu Now that you’ve got VMware setup, it’s time to put it to work.  Click the Create a New Virtual Machine as above to start making a Windows virtual machine. In the dialog that opens, select your installer disk or ISO image file that you want to install Windows from.  In this example, we’re select a Windows 7 ISO.  VMware will automatically detect the operating system on the disk or image.  Click Next to continue. Enter your Windows product key, select the edition of Windows to install, and enter your name and password. You can leave the product key field blank and enter it later.  VMware will ask if you want to continue without a product key, so just click Yes to continue. Now enter a name for your virtual machine and select where you want to save it.  Note: This will take up at least 15Gb of space on your hard drive during the install, so make sure to save it on a drive with sufficient storage space. You can choose how large you want your virtual hard drive to be; the default is 40Gb, but you can choose a different size if you wish.  The entire amount will not be used up on your hard drive initially, but the virtual drive will increase in size up to your maximum as you add files.  Additionally, you can choose if you want the virtual disk stored as a single file or as multiple files.  You will see the best performance by keeping the virtual disk as one file, but the virtual machine will be more portable if it is broken into smaller files, so choose the option that will work best for your needs. Finally, review your settings, and if everything looks good, click Finish to create the virtual machine. VMware will take over now, and install Windows without any further input using its Easy Install.  This is one of VMware’s best features, and is the main reason we find it the easiest desktop virtualization solution to use.   Installing VMware Tools VMware Player doesn’t include the VMware Tools by default; instead, it automatically downloads them for the operating system you’re installing.  Once you’ve downloaded them, it will use those tools anytime you install that OS.  If this is your first Windows virtual machine to install, you may be prompted to download and install them while Windows is installing.  Click Download and Install so your Easy Install will finish successfully. VMware will then download and install the tools.  You may need to enter your administrative password to complete the install. Other than this, you can leave your Windows install unattended; VMware will get everything installed and running on its own. Our test setup took about 30 minutes, and when it was done we were greeted with the Windows desktop ready to use, complete with drivers and the VMware tools.  The only thing missing was the Aero glass feature.  VMware Player is supposed to support the Aero glass effects in virtual machines, and although this works every time when we use VMware Player on Windows, we could not get it to work in Linux.  Other than that, Windows is fully ready to use.  You can copy and paste text, images, or files between Ubuntu and Windows, or simply drag-and-drop files between the two. Unity Mode Using Windows in a window is awkward, and makes your Windows programs feel out of place and hard to use.  This is where Unity mode comes in.  Click Virtual Machine in VMware’s menu, and select Enter Unity. Your Windows desktop will now disappear, and you’ll see a new Windows menu underneath your Ubuntu menu.  This works the same as your Windows Start Menu, and you can open your Windows applications and files directly from it. By default, programs from Windows will have a colored border and a VMware badge in the corner.  You can turn this off from the VMware settings pane.  Click Virtual Machine in VMware’s menu and select Virtual Machine Settings.  Select Unity under the Options tab, and uncheck the Show borders and Show badges boxes if you don’t want them. Unity makes your Windows programs feel at home in Ubuntu.  Here we have Word 2010 and IE8 open beside the Ubuntu Help application.  Notice that the Windows applications show up in the taskbar on the bottom just like the Linux programs.  If you’re using the Compiz graphics effects in Ubuntu, your Windows programs will use them too, including the popular wobbly windows effect. You can switch back to running Windows inside VMware Player’s window by clicking the Exit Unity button in the VMware window. Now, whenever you want to run Windows applications in Linux, you can quickly launch it from VMware Player. Conclusion VMware Player is a great way to run Windows on your Linux computer.  It makes it extremely easy to get Windows installed and running, lets you run your Windows programs seamlessly alongside your Linux ones.  VMware products work great in our experience, and VMware Player on Linux was no exception. • I have finally traded my Blackberry in for a Droid!

    - by Bob Porter
Over the years I have used a number of different types of phones. Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Nokia, and now Android. Until the Blackberry, which was my last phone (and I still have one issued from my office) I had never found a phone that “just worked” especially with email and messaging. The Blackberry did, and does, excel at those functions. My last personal phone was a Storm 1 which was Blackberry’s first touch screen phone. The Storm 2 was an improved version that fixed some screen press detection issues from the first model and it added Wifi. Over the last few years I have watched others acquire and fall in love with their ‘Droid’s including a number of iPhone users which surprised me. Our office has until recently only supported Blackberry phones, adding iPhones within the last year or so. When I spoke with our internal telecom folks they confirmed they were evaluating Android phones, but felt they still were not secure enough out of the box for corporate use and SOX compliance. That being said, as a personal phone, the Droid Rocks! I am impressed with its speed, the number of apps available, and the overall design. It is not as “flashy” as an iPhone but it does everything that I care about and more. The model I bought is the Motorola Droid 2 Global from Verizon. It is currently running Android 2.2 for it’s OS, 2.3 is just around the corner. It has 8 gigs of internal flash memory and can handle up to a 32 gig SDCard. (I currently have 2 8 gig cards, one for backups, and have ordered a 16 gig card!) Being a geek at heart, I “rooted” the phone which means gained superuser access to the OS on the phone. And opens a number of doors for further modifications down the road. Also being a geek meant I have already setup a development environment and built and deployed the obligatory “Hello Droid” application. I will be writing of my development experiences with this new platform here often, to start off I thought I would share my current application list to give you an idea what I am using. • Unity completely broken after upgrade to 12.10?

    - by NlightNFotis
I am facing a very frustrating issue with my computer right now. I successfully upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10 this afternoon, but after the upgrade, the graphical user interface seems completely broken. To be more specific, I can not get the Unity bar to appear on the right. I have tried many things, including (but not limited to) purging and then reinstalling the fglrx drivers, apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop, apt-get install --reinstall unity, tried to remove the Xorg and Compiz configurations, checked to see if the Ubuntu Unity wall was enabled (it was) in ccsm, all to no avail. Could someone help me troubleshoot and essentially fix this issue? NOTE: This is the output when I try to enable unity via a terminal: compiz (core) - Info: Loading plugin: core compiz (core) - Info: Starting plugin: core unity-panel-service: no process found compiz (core) - Info: Loading plugin: reset compiz (core) - Error: Failed to load plugin: reset compiz (core) - Info: Loading plugin: ccp compiz (core) - Info: Starting plugin: ccp compizconfig - Info: Backend : gsettings compizconfig - Info: Integration : true compizconfig - Info: Profile : unity compiz (core) - Info: Loading plugin: composite compiz (core) - Info: Starting plugin: composite compiz (core) - Info: Loading plugin: opengl X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) Major opcode of failed request: 153 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString) Serial number of failed request: 22 Current serial number in output stream: 22 compiz (core) - Info: Unity is not supported by your hardware.
