• How to create a bash function with variable parameters/arguments to grep several keywords/tags

  I'm using the :!grep "tag1" filename | grep "tag2" filename | grep -n "tag3 or more" filename command in vim to search for my code snippets based on their tags (a simple comment at the top of a snippet) in one big file. I use snippets to remember tricky things. This is painful to write out each time. I'd like to make an alias, or function to do something like this: :!greptag tag1 tag2 ... tag39 And it should search the current doc and return the lines with all the tags on them. Vim is set to interactive shell mode so that it can parse my bashrc for aliases/functions. set shellcmdflag=-ic How can I construct a function that allows for variable arguments like this in bash?

• PHP: Class extends problem "Call to private method ... from context ..."

  I have 3 classes in WordPress (the question itself is unrelated to it): class WP_Widget class Theme_Widget extends WP_Widget class Specific_Widget extends Theme_Widget Essentially Theme_Widget contains some extension functions to the basic WP_Widget. Inside Specific_Widget I call one of Theme_Widget's methods: class Specific_Widget { function __construct() { $this->some_method_that_belongs_to_Theme_Widget(); } } When I instantiate Specific_Widget, PHP throws a fatal error as follows: Fatal error: Call to private method Theme_Widget::some_method_that_belongs_to_Theme_Widget() from context 'Specific_Widget' in ... Do you have an idea as to how I can resolve this? This is the first time I've received this error from PHP. Could it be derive from WordPress itself?

• Lots of pointer casts in QGraphicsView framework and performance

  Since most of the convenience functions of QGraphicsScene and QGraphicsItem (such as items(), collidingItems(), childItems() etc.) return a QList you're forced to do lots of qgraphicsitem_cast or static_cast and QGraphicsItem::Type() checks to get hold of the actual items when you have lots of different type of items in the scene. I thought doing lots of subclass casts were not a desirable coding style, but I guess in this case there are no other viable way, or is there? QList<QGraphicsItem *> itemsHit = someItem->collidingItems(Qt::IntersectsItemShape); foreach (QGraphicsItem *item, itemsHit) { if (item->type() == QGraphicsEllipseItem::type()) { QGraphicsEllipseItem *ellipse = qgraphicsitem_cast<QGraphicsEllipseItem *>(item); // do something } else if (item->type() == MyItemSubclass::type()) { MyItemSubClass *myItem = qgraphicsitem_cast<MyItemSubClass *>(item); // do something } // etc } The above qgraphicsitem_cast could be replaced by static_cast since correct type is already verified. When doing lots of these all the time (very dynamic scene), will the numerous casting affect performance beyond the normal if-else evaluation?

• Why does OSX document atoi/atof as not being threadsafe?

  I understand that strtol and strtof are preferred to atoi/atof, since the former detect errors, and also strtol is much more flexible than atoi when it comes to non-base-10. But I'm still curious about something: 'man atoi' (or atof) on OS X (though not on Linux!) mentions that atoi/atof are not threadsafe. I frankly have a hard time imagining a possible implementation of atoi or atof that would not be threadsafe. Does anybody know why the man page says this? Are these functions actually unsafe on OS X or any other platform? And if they are, why on earth wouldn't the library just define atoi in terms of strtol, and therefore be safe?

• Slide through view controllers but not with the UISwipeGestureRecognizer

  Here is my issue, i got 5 view controllers and i can switch between them trough swipe with the UISwipeGestureRecognizer class and xcode's storyboard. So this works, but, i dont like the slide effect. I like to make it in a way so you can exactly slide the view to another by dragging it. For example, like this slider in JS: http://dimsemenov.com/plugins/royal-slider/ Can anyone send me in the right direction? I searched on the internet but i cant find any functions or tutorial on how to do this. Thanks in advance! Edit: Im not looking the scroll view.   Read this on the oracle docs java.lang page: Frequently it is necessary to represent a value of primitive type as if it were an object. The wrapper classes Boolean, Character, Integer, Long, Float, and Double serve this purpose. I'm not sure I understand why these are needed. It says they have useful functions such as equals(). But if I can do (a==b), why would I ever want to declare them as Integer, use more memory and use equals()? How does the memory usage differ for the 2?

• Wordpress parses wp_posts.post_content before rendering?

  I noticed that when I call the the_post() or the_content() function from my wordpress template, it automatically parses the database data to replace new lines with <br/>, wraps the text with <p> tags etc...There's probably some kind of "format" function within the_post() or the_content(). I wrote a query to directly get posts from the wp_posts. I then print it out like <?php $results = $wp->get_results($sql) foreach($results as $row) echo $row->post_content; ?> Clearly, this data is not parsed by wordpress' "format" function. What is the proper way to output this content such that it undergoes the same "formatting" functions as the_post() or the_content()?

• Using Components.utils.import in a firefox extension

  I am trying to create some global variables in a firefox extension. In my content folder, I have two javascript files: 1) Main JS file that holds the functions for the different events, etc 2) A file that stores only an object with the pieces of state I want to maintain. Also, I set the array EXPORTED_SYMBOLS. I am having issues with the following line found in my main JS file: Components.utils.import("resource:///globalVariables.js"); When it is at the top of the file, nothing seems to work. If I move it into the function where I need the variable, the rest of my code works, but the function with this line does nothing. Any advice that would help me with this problem would be great. • Can I save my app's state at close time in iPhone OS?

  I have an app that functions much like an ebook. I have a bunch of textual information in various languages that is accessible through a number of drill down methods. When a user wants to get into where they were reading last, they currently have to navigate through the section and chapter menus to get back to where they were. An ideal solution for this would be to setup a bookmark system, which I am considering. But if I remember correctly, when iPhone OS 4 was announced, they seemed to make a big deal of the added ability to save the state of an app. Does that mean that someone using my reader app would be able to just exit right out, do whatever, and then when they came back in, it would be the reading screen just as they left it? I don't know much about how to setup a bookmarking system, I suppose it would be worth investigating, but I would probably want to just hold off for iPhone OS 4 if that is indeed what it will be capable of doing. Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated!!

I've tried using a recursive CTE to generate this; however maybe a cursor would be better? Or maybe a set of recursive functions will do the trick? Currently I am taking the approach of using the XMLTable() and XQuery functions to create a virtual table. • What's the best way to replace the first letter of a string in Java?

  I'm trying to convert the first letter of a string to lowercase. I know there's a capitalize method, but I want to accomplish the opposite. This is the code I used: value.substring(0,1).toLowerCase() + value.substring(1) Effective, but feels a bit manual. Are there any other ways to do it? Any better ways? Any Java string functions that do it for you? I was thinking of using something like a replace function, but Java's replace doesn't accept an index as a parameter. You have to pass the actual character/substring. Another way I can think of doing it is something like: value.replaceFirst(value.charAt(0), value.charAt(0).toLowerCase()) Except that replaceFirst expects 2 strings, so the value.charAt(0)s would probably need to be replaced with value.substring(0,1)s. Is this any better? Does it matter? Is there any standard way to do this?

Is there a way by which I can explicitly terminate a connection from server side such that client does not receive any response header. Currently I have tried many options like closing the response outputStream. But in every case a http 200 OK message is delivered to the client application. I would like to consume the http-request and do not want to return anything to the client. I am using a simple conrtroller servlet and had overridden doGet() and doPost() functions.

We have a header file that uses named constants (#define) for the function pointer indices. These values are used in calculating the location in the table of the function's address. (Also, I would like the compiler or preprocessor to calculate the indices to avoid human mistakes like typeo's.)

  I've been wanting to build my own gaming community site (like http://fragbite.com) for a long time, I have started many times but just quitted after a couple days because it gets very messy I've been palying around with php and mysql off and on for 3 years but i've never gotten in to oop. i have tried but i usually end up with the "old php". I usually build my pages like so that i include a file on top of all pages with neccasary functions, html head etc. And I mix php and html together which I dont mind but if I eventually would get a designer he would not like it i think. I have tried both phpcake and codeigniter and all those popular mvc's but its just to much, like they do all the work. i want to do it myself. but i dont know where to start. What would you do if you were me? Is there maybe some non-oop mvc? (Sorry for my english)

  I am trying to integrate my custom user system with Wordpress, and I have recently asked a question on how to redirect requests to wp-login.php to my own login/registration page, but as I was working on the pluggable functions, I realized that requests to wp-login.php can either be for login, registration, or log out. This is set in the action argument that's made in the request. What I am trying to figure out is how to get this action argument, so I can redirect the request to my custom pages.   Hello, I have MSSQL 2008 Ent and OLTP database with two big tables. How I can move this tables to another filegroup without service interrupting? Now, about 100-130 records inserted and 30-50 records updated each second in this tables. Each table have about 100M records and six fields (including one field geography). I looking for solution via google, but all solutions contain "create second table, insert rows from first table, drop first table, bla bla bla". Can I use partitioning functions for solving this problem? Thank you.
