    Hi there, I need to make a program that writes some data to an excel spreadsheet. Something basic along the lines of First name, last name, phone number, e-mail per row with each category in its own column. I don't even know where to start. If someone could tell me which assemblies to reference and maybe point me to a website or a book that covers writing/reading data from an excel spreadsheet via a c# program that would be great.     The question is generally coming from self = [super init]. In case if I'm subclassing NSSomething and in my init's method self = [super init] returns object of different class, does it mean I am not able to have my very own ivars in my subclass, just because self will be pointing to different class? Appreciate if you could bring some examples if my statement is wrong.

I managed to upload the file to google sites, but it is coming as downloadable there instead of executing. Is there a work-around here other than buying my own server space?

  • Should the function or the caller be resonsible for input validation?

    I'm doing a security audit on a fairly large php application and was wondering where I should include my user-input validation. Should I validate the data, then send the clean data off to the back-end functions or should I rely on each function to do it's own validation? Or even both? Is there any standard or best-practice for this sort of thing? Currently the app does both inconsistently and I'll like to make things more consistent.

    I'm trying to generate some sql files in my java application. The application will not execute any sql statements, just generate a file with sql statements and save it. I'd like to use the java.sql.PreparedStatement to create my statements so that i don't have to validate every string etc. with my own methods. Is there a way to use the PreparedStatement without the calling java.sql.Connection.prepareStatement(String) function, because I don't have a java.sql.Connection?

    What I need is to hash a string. It doesn't really have to be secure because its just going to be a hidden pharse in the text file (simply it doesn't have to be recognizable for a human-eye). It should not be just a random string because when user will be typing the string I would like to hash it and compare it with already hashed one (in the text file). What would be the best for this purpose? Can it be done with the own class?

    Hi As i know, all the threads share memory location. For example a global variable changes in one thread will reflect in another thread. Since each thread has its own stack, the local variables that are created inside the thread is unique. In this case, why do we need to go for thread specific data mechanism?.
